View Full Version : Most Interesting Race to Play

14-06-2009, 08:44
I'm thinking of starting a new army and wondered what people thought were the most interesting armies to play on the tabletop. If your refering to a specific build type, please say so in your post.

ED: I should add that this poll is not about which has the best model line, easiest army to collect, best troops choices or engaging fluff. It is for which army is the most fun to play with when it's on the table.

They have great models and youre able to build an all plastic armey(with the Black Reach boss)
Great background and tons of playing styles
Do you want boyz or toyz, or maybe both
You get lots of bitz to kitbash with(i build some plastic kommandos and they look awesome)
Theyre easy to play and theyre best thats it

Eldar easy have the most diverse units with special abilities powerul psykers fast tanks, jetbikes and awesome models I'd say eldar hands down

I'm going to second Orks.
They are fun to play, have an extensive selection of good plastic kits, and the conversion opportunities are endless.
Plus they have quite a good power level in this edition.

Dark Eldar.

Nothing is more fun than winning all the time.

14-06-2009, 10:23
I would say Dark Eldar might be quite interesting, weak troops that need to have 'real' tactics to win. They were the first army i started with, I stopped because I was little and wanted to win easily. But with the few things that I played with, I would have to say that they are awsomly cool.

Orks would be your best bet if you want an army that can be funny and still win.

I like them and I find it fascinating how every amy type is good fun to either kill/kill with/get killed by.

They almost always have me on the back foot to.

My vote has to be Tyranids.
You can field everything from a huge swarm of cheap troops to an elite NidZilla force.

I voted Eldar in the poll. I just feel that they have the most diverse range of army choices, which really allow you to theme and customize your unique army. I find the races which are most fun to play are those with armies which don't have to use the same tactics for every battle.

14-06-2009, 15:44
necrons, necrons, necrons they are really challenging and have fine models

14-06-2009, 15:47
The Imperial guard is actual surprisingly challenging to play. You have to get used to playing a very different game from most other armies.

Eldar and Dark Eldar are interesting! Squishy, but quick!

14-06-2009, 15:51
Not only am I suprised Daemons don't have more votes, seeing as how each game is completely random so it stays interesting. Though also I'm suprised that Necrons have 2 votes. Wow.

14-06-2009, 16:10
Orks FTW.
Has everything from the DEFFWING meganobz army/ horde of sluggas or shootas/ biker speed freaks (with or without nobz)/ Shooty army of deff/ Tar-pit Grotz/ armoured blitz-brigade/ Grot-bomz/ suicide squigs and who doesn't like a gargant with lifta-droppa?:D

14-06-2009, 16:19
Dark Eldar.

As it is nice to hammer MEQs into the ground, but against anything else, I have to really concentrate.

But actually having the movement phase as possibly your most important phase is a lot of fun.

I love my Guard, wouldn't trade them for any other army, but the potential for random wackiness that Orks make them the most interesting army to play in my opinion. If you get into the right Ork mindset, it doesn't even matter if you win or lose, as long as you get to krump some heads.

14-06-2009, 16:36
If the IG and DH are in the same category it's them no doubt. The background is so great and with IG there a hundreds of great regiments you can create. I absolutly love how GW made several lines of IG troops too, even if they can play exactly the same, to a Steel Legion player, his army is totally unlike a Cadian or Vostroyan force. I like it a lot more to have different figure lines for the same codex than different codices for the same figure line like SMs have. Also the inquisition and Grey Knights, stunning models and the way they play and are able to mix with the IG is really interresting.

14-06-2009, 16:45
If you like the idea of playing mostly with the same list every game and having to use a small core of models in new ways to counter different opponents, Necrons are a good choice. If you like having a diverse codex with lots of specialist units so you can have a different squad that can answer everything, you should probably not choose Necrons.

14-06-2009, 17:05
Imperium forces. You can take the IG and make some different regiments (mech/airborne/aromoured/all infantry). You can combine all of these with Grey Knights forces or Sisters of Battles forces and you have a great variety of fun;).

14-06-2009, 17:11
Nids - Cause they look cool :)

Lord Cook
14-06-2009, 18:55
Having combined Imperial Guard and Witch Hunters, it's really no question any more... :p

14-06-2009, 18:57
Nid's.... Just really like the look of the swarm on the table. Plus, I like that fact that they have generic characters, and that I get to choose how strong/ weak that character is based on the game being played.

14-06-2009, 22:34

Now, I love my Eldar more but I care when they die, sniff,:cries: but orks are just bonkers funny and I don't care when they die and love it when they kill!

So, Orks.:D

14-06-2009, 22:35
IMPERIAL GUARD !!!! Just the diversity alone is awesome !

14-06-2009, 22:40
I second Thornz, the popular list at the moment are veterans.
But I play full platoons and do fine. (55 guys in each platoon)

14-06-2009, 22:40
Chaos- there's a huge diversity of tactics available, a wide range of units and painting options- plus you can actually water warrior with them and they are effective.

Orks are actually really dull to play IMO

14-06-2009, 22:46
IG or Eldar.

Guard for the wide variety of playstyles now possible. Airmobile, tracked or footslogging; hoard-ish or mechanised relatively elite; very long ranged, short ranged firefight or even close combat. And a massive variety of pieplates.

Eldar as the archetypal force multiplier army. They don't have the big hammer units, but they have serious mobility and synergy between units. You get things to work together, they're wonderful, but they're fragile.

14-06-2009, 22:59
It's the player, not the army. :p

14-06-2009, 23:06
Eldar can be challenging to play; their units are rather specialized and have to work in concert for best effect.

Daemons - anything can happen ;)

14-06-2009, 23:58
I had to go with Forces of the Imperium, the sheer ammount of options and characterful models and units really add to them. IG with GK allies (or vice versa) really is a nice force to behold.

15-06-2009, 02:45
I voted Eldar.

I've had armies come (CSM, WH) and go (Tau, a couple SM armies, etc)...

...but, always back to the Eldar. I've been an Eldar player since 2nd edition. It's an extremely diverse army list which allows a variety of builds.

15-06-2009, 02:47
Orks - so funny when things go wrong

Adeptus Custodes
15-06-2009, 02:54
A Inquisition/Space Marine/Imperial Guard army is always fun. It gives you a wide variety of models to choose from, not to mention the vast amount of power that it allows you to have.

15-06-2009, 04:41
Orks are a LOT of fun to collect, model and convert. However they really are not that interesting to play..something like putting your models on the table and moving forward as fast as possible is about all the strategy you need.

I think armies that are a challenge to play are much more interesting. Which is why I voted Tau.

seriously go for orks
whats more fun then 'accidentally' killing ur own army but still kick ur opponents rear end
orks = serious entertainment factor
(they will win x factor by just walking onto the stage)
i dont see why everyone think the imperium is so fun they just too organised and regimented.

Imperial Guard. The diversity in models, playstyle, background, and tactics is astounding. Adding in Inquisitorial allies only amplifies this further. Also, it allows for conversion opportunities much greater than most other armies. I don't know about most other ones, but Imperial Guard infantrymen and vehicles get customized and personalized to all Hell.

Furthermore, they have always been incredibly fun to play. If you ever get a chance, play a Guard vs Guard battle. They're the most fun I've ever had playing.

18-06-2009, 21:41
I collect and play chaos space marines. I have played them since 3 edition. The visuals and the background is what appeals me the most. But chaos is slow and predictible on the table.

Thats why I picked eldar in the poll. Their background I think is the worst. I don't like the looks on the models either. But after borrowing my friends eldar army and playing against them a couple of times ... the things they bring to the table and how the army performs makes playing them a pure joy. Their speed and psychic powers allow them to severly punish your opponent if he makes stupid mistakes. The speed make the eldar also very hard to predict.

18-06-2009, 22:06
I've just started an Ork arm and they are a blast to pla. I end up laughing the entire time. They're just fun, plus they're incredibly effective.

18-06-2009, 22:13
It's Chaos marines for me. The Cult Marines are loads of fun. Noise Marines FTW.
