'lo all, to get some progress on my 'to do' list, i decided to get the largest chunk outta the way. That chunk just happens to be the Therian Interior Guard

the first of many planned armies in this regiment, it's a pretty basic list. with nothing too special (valks, superheavies...etc.)

a total of around 1500pts.

you'll notice that a lot of them are missing heads, that's because i'm custum making GS gasmasks for all of them, here's an example (http://photobucket.com/albums/v208/Hazmat_captain_ZERO/guard/?action=view&current=2efb0585.jpg)

so, my most finished unit, the Stormtroopers (http://photobucket.com/albums/v208/Hazmat_captain_ZERO/guard/?action=view&current=IG004.jpg)!

all that i really need to do with them is finish the last 3 members, and base them at the end with the rest of the army

after i finish those, i'll be doing all my squad/platoon leaders (http://photobucket.com/albums/v208/Hazmat_captain_ZERO/guard/?action=view&current=IG006.jpg)

then, the vets (http://photobucket.com/albums/v208/Hazmat_captain_ZERO/guard/?action=view&current=IG007.jpg) all with GS gasmasks and trench coats

after that, all the special weapons (http://photobucket.com/albums/v208/Hazmat_captain_ZERO/guard/?action=view&current=IG010.jpg)

then the sentinels (http://photobucket.com/albums/v208/Hazmat_captain_ZERO/guard/?action=view&current=IG012.jpg)

then my heavy weapon platoon (http://photobucket.com/albums/v208/Hazmat_captain_ZERO/guard/?action=view&current=IG013.jpg)
minus the command squad, i still need to make 'em

then all the squad heavy weapons (http://photobucket.com/albums/v208/Hazmat_captain_ZERO/guard/?action=view&current=IG014.jpg)

after, it's on to the grunts! (http://photobucket.com/albums/v208/Hazmat_captain_ZERO/guard/?action=view&current=IG015.jpg) ....... oh joy ;)

then a break from infantry (http://photobucket.com/albums/v208/Hazmat_captain_ZERO/guard/?action=view&current=IG016.jpg)

it's back to the grunts! (http://photobucket.com/albums/v208/Hazmat_captain_ZERO/guard/?action=view&current=IG017.jpg)

after, my commander (http://photobucket.com/albums/v208/Hazmat_captain_ZERO/guard/?action=view&current=IG018.jpg)

then it's back to the grunts! (http://photobucket.com/albums/v208/Hazmat_captain_ZERO/guard/?action=view&current=IG019.jpg)

another break (http://photobucket.com/albums/v208/Hazmat_captain_ZERO/guard/?action=view&current=IG020.jpg)

the final hurdle (http://photobucket.com/albums/v208/Hazmat_captain_ZERO/guard/?action=view&current=IG021.jpg)

groan.. lot's of work ahead, hopefully updates every day until it's done....eventually

comments on the finished stormtroops? remember, they're only TT quality

oh, and before i forget, here's the full album, it's got all the pictures i didn't bother to post

I like them! A lot! Stormtroopers look good, how are you doing their bases?
Maybes need another colour in there to break up the monotony..I painted most of my army in a green/grey then decided to give them one blue shoulder pad, which became their "thing". If you're sanding then static flocking their bases the green of the grass might help too:)

for bases, i'm not set on anything yet, probably not going to decide until they're all done

most likely sand and rubble, as they're going to go with my soon to be built cityfight table ("soon" is to be taken with a grain of salt ;))

as for the monotony, once i finish them up to the same standard i might try out some fancy free-hand and weathering..... but only once they're roughly 'done'

Yeh, thats the stage im upto now with my Guard...
I was going mostly-infantry, now I'm a bit bored, sick of getting beaten up and close with orks so im adding some tougher stuff..
Once I get my next 2 russ and basilisk converted painted up:) Just made an extra unit of hardened veterans, got ogres on their way to convert into ogryns, think I'll add some Grenadiers and maybes some converted sergeants. You will be disheartened by the first 50, but keep strong! Looking good though.

phhh, i'm already disheartened by the thought of the first 50...

small update: finished the first seargent, minus the hands here (http://photobucket.com/albums/v208/Hazmat_captain_ZERO/guard/?action=view&current=IG.jpg)

*warning* the picture is waaaay to focused, and as such looks really dusty

IRL it's a better blend, ijust couldn't get a decent picture of it to turn out

another update

all the squad leaders are done (http://photobucket.com/albums/v208/Hazmat_captain_ZERO/guard/?action=view&current=IG024.jpg)

except the last one, i have something 'special' in mind for him

you'll notice that the lieutenant's mask/hand are a bit off, i'm going to be toching them up later

C&C?

MIGHTYPanhead
03-01-2006, 00:39
another quickie update, finished the last stormtroopers, fixed the lieutenant's hand/face, and decided to show you a PIP of my vet's

it's easier to see the details on these, than the flat black undercoated ones...... 'nuff said

http://photobucket.com/albums/v208/Hazmat_captain_ZERO/guard/?action=view&current=IG025.jpg

only one person has C&C too, am I that bad? :cries:

Bluesabre
03-01-2006, 00:48
No, your not that bad :)

These are looking good so far, Im glad its you and not me trying to make masks outta gs, I need heaps more practice:rolleyes:

MIGHTYPanhead
03-01-2006, 00:52
praise allah! a response! :)

those GS masks were pretty simple, for the majority of them (the ones on the grunts/vets) i just GS cast a Kasrkin mask, then jammed the cadian face into it. since they're the exact same size, they fit perfectly

it's just the fact that i have to do it 50-odd times that scares me......

cerealkiller195
03-01-2006, 03:51
wow pretty impressive. i do like the way they look a lot, almost remind me of something trench guard like.

MIGHTYPanhead
03-01-2006, 04:19
my gosh, another! :)

these vets were inspired by one death korps conversion that was really impressive, and the trench guard look was what i was aiming for

though, they aren't as spangly clean as most guard, i wanted a more 'real' and 'gritty' feel for them, though.... they will be getting mud/dust and other wear and tear once i decide on the bases

"though, they aren't as spangly clean as most guard, i wanted a more 'real' and 'gritty' feel for them, though.... they will be getting mud/dust and other wear and tear once i decide on the bases"

- If you water down some wood glue, then you should be able to add bits like that pretty easily.

- I like the ones on Page 12 I think it is, lol. Those look my Gen1's. Right now, I'm GSCing the Kasrkin Faces (like you), but mixed it up between a few. I use a small "mask" beneath the rebreather to connect itbetween the sides of the helmet (it looks like you tried that). As well, I use the whole mask with specs on the spare helmets. That works pretty stellar IMO.

- The whole aremy is really lacking in colours, but if you want that "urban warfare" type of deal, then it's ok. For trench warfare, they'll stick out a fiar bit - since when did black and gray look much like brown? I guess it could work on those "Ash wastes", but odds are the storms will provide you with enough visibility issues...

- The Trenchcoat guys, your vets? I like the snub-nosed lasguns and greatcoats, though it shocks me that you put the coats under the armour. Wouldn't it make sense that they just tossed them over the armour, or took off the shoulderpads even? Anyhow, they look great.

Cadian 21st
03-01-2006, 05:39
Looking at the greatcoats again, it looks more like skirts 'cause you didn't add anything on the arms...

hehe, edit tool...

MIGHTYPanhead
03-01-2006, 05:49
yeah, they do look like skirts....but don't tell anyone!!! :p
really, i just put them there for looks, so putting them under the armour just seemed easier

the total 'lack of colour' was intentional, and unavoidable, they're for urban warfare, in a desert/badlands-type city, and i only really had a few colours that would work for it

most of these guys really only need two colours (minus lenses) bleached bone, and brown ink, my entire storm trooper squad was done with those two colours (yes, even the seargents face), plus hawk turquoise for lenses/lights

now, i am planning on adding more detail once they're all finished, wear & tear, squad markings, etc.

oh, and those snub-nose lasguns can also double as shotguns in a pinch, as the vets are the ony ones with 'em

thanks for the c&c, the main issue i have right now is colour, but that'll be worked out in the end.....i hope

i'm not dead yet! ;)

finished the vet's, minus the two 'nade launchers (who i'll be doing with all the special weapons)

looksie here (http://photobucket.com/albums/v208/Hazmat_captain_ZERO/guard/?action=view&current=IG026.jpg)

then, take a look (http://photobucket.com/albums/v208/Hazmat_captain_ZERO/guard/?action=view&current=IG027.jpg) at what i have to do next....

C&C? bored yet? :)

Nicely done with that convertion and painting is good also. Wish I would be so good with 'stuff... Is there any vehicles coming? Well, keep up the good work.

yep, 4

a russ, a demolisher, and two sentinals

maybe a chimera for the stormtroopers, but that'll be a long while off

MIGHTYPanhead
04-01-2006, 00:25
another small update, really just for myself

but, i'm about 1/3 through the 12 special weapons, pict's to come shortly

04-01-2006, 00:26
Lol, I do love the Guards that are being attacked by Brain Suckers. Oops, looks like a few of them died so now the Guardsmen are...eating them? Hehe, sorry

MIGHTYPanhead
04-01-2006, 00:54
brain suckers? please explain..?

anyways.. here's the first completely finished special weapon

i present, the the blastmaster! (http://photobucket.com/albums/v208/Hazmat_captain_ZERO/guard/?action=view&current=IG033.jpg)

melta gunners almost done are: cyclops, RoboCop, and Gus

Such as that guy...where's his eyes? How can he see, let alone breath, lol

MIGHTYPanhead
04-01-2006, 01:01
it is similar to a mask used for welding (http://www.majesticfireapparel.com/images/productImages/MIG-1-face-mask-down.jpg), the air would have to come through at the bottom,

and his eyes are covered by the mask

Cadian 21st
04-01-2006, 01:03
I think that the major difference between the two is in the windows on the welding mask

MIGHTYPanhead
04-01-2006, 01:07
that one isnt a great example, but most ones i've seen are one-way mirrors

*edit* think this, but a mirror on the outside http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0002APS9Q.01-A2N6NO8W19JCUN._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg

MIGHTYPanhead
04-01-2006, 01:42
well, my second melta gunner is done : robocop

the picture turned out iffy, and his face turned out pretty bad...

but anyways, here he is (http://photobucket.com/albums/v208/Hazmat_captain_ZERO/guard/?action=view&current=IG034.jpg)

two more melta's, then it's on to the flamers!.. joy ;)

MIGHTYPanhead
04-01-2006, 02:12
finished the third melta : cyclops (http://photobucket.com/albums/v208/Hazmat_captain_ZERO/guard/?action=view&current=IG037.jpg)

though, this time.. it seems i got the face right, and the armour is off...

hmmmmm

MIGHTYPanhead
04-01-2006, 02:33
and done! (http://photobucket.com/albums/v208/Hazmat_captain_ZERO/guard/?action=view&current=IG039.jpg)

well.... the melta gunner's at least

MIGHTYPanhead
04-01-2006, 22:16
thought i was dead again, didn't you!

well HA! i'm not! :p

anyways, finished 4 flamers (http://photobucket.com/albums/v208/Hazmat_captain_ZERO/guard/?action=view&current=IG042.jpg), and now have two squads fully finished! (minus bases)

I really like that scheme, but i think you couldve done a better job. Please, add some more color, and maybe some scorched brown streaks on the cloth, because they look monotonous and boring. I KNOW you can paint better than that because your GS skills seem very good. Just take some time...

No need to redo everyone, just tidy them up. Put very thin lines of highlights on the armor to reflect light, paint the skin with actual flesh colors, if you dont feel like painting the hands just paint them black and say they are gloves, i guess.

Heres a tip to clean them up a little: after you ink the bleached bone uniforms, go over the uppermost folds of the uniforms and color them with bleached bone. It will give them more depth, while still preserving that gritty look. As i said before the armor needs highlighting, nothing massive, just some
scorched brown/bleached bone mix to touch the edges and tops of the armor.

But i must say, i do love that scheme, might have to try it myself. Seems very easy, so i could possibly finish my army this week....hmm....

But there is no way ill match those GS skills, you are good, ill give you that. And no, they dont look like skirts, they look fine.

I think he has said he would do more three different times the first time in Post #3.

pretty much spot on jahrel

i can paint better, but this is to really get some paint on them

once i ge them to the same standard, fancy stuff will come.. maybe even more layers/better overall job

but first, i want to get rid of all those not-painted guardsmen looking at me :)

*edit* supreme, most of those paint tips are ones i've already planned on using once i finish the hard part, but i will not line highlight, it just doesnt look right to me. I do however, have a plan for the armour

Hah, my bad man. What you mentioned completely slipped my mind.

When you said they were done, i thought you meant like completely done. Guess i was wrong...

I might have to post a thread about my guard army's progression so i can actually paint the damn thing. Seems like good motivation.

most likely my fault, wasn't too clear on that fact. but i am going to be making them a lot nicer once their all "finished" (not too my best standard, but look at the storm troopers, that'll probably be the end quality)

and to the thread, i highly suggest it, even when only a few people reply it's good motivation
