While excavating further tunnels in Karak Norn, a group of miners discovered a small rune bound chest. The discovery was brought to the immediate attention of the King of Karak Norn, who then called his greatest Runesmiths together to decipher the ancient text that seemed to bind the chest closed. After several days of deliberation, which is very fast in Dwarf terms, the answer was that the chest was "evil". During the trials, three of the Runesmiths were severely injured, their minds reduced to childish gibberish. Recognizing that the chest could pose a great threat, but unknowing of the exact nature of the threat, the King of Karak Norn decides to dispatch a small force to take the chest to the greatest Runelord still living, Thorek Ironbrow of Karak Azul.

Hoping to not cause great alarm in his own kingdom, the King sends a summons to a remote clan, the Stonefists. and Kalar Stonefist, leader of the clan, immediately dispatches his eldest son, Karal Stonefist and his best warriors and quarrellers to meet with the King. Once Karal arrives, he is given the chest and a sealed letter to present to the other Dwarf Holds along his route south, with specific instructions not to read the letter. He is also given a great cannon and contingent of the Kings very own body guard to ensure success of the mission.

Heading south through the Grey Mountains, it is not long before Karal and his contingent are set upon by a Night Goblin tribe, attacking with a fury and precision unusual for the greedy Gobbos. All may have been lost, but as the battle began to turn a roaming band of Slayers arrived, pushing the tide of battle back in favor of the dwarves. Soon, the Night Goblins were in a full route. After explaining his mission to Logan Battlefury, the leader of the Slayers, Logan agrees to stay with the Stonefists until the expedition is complete.

In the meantime, Skarsnik,, Warlord of the Eight Peaks, had been engaged in a stalemate attack on the defensive hold of Karak Eight Peaks against the self-proclaimed true king of the Hold, Belagar Ironhammer. As the dwarves of the Hold began to prepare a counter offensive to attempt to sway the battle, a great mist arose shrouding the battlefield. When it dispersed, the entire night goblin army had left. Taking a portion of his forces, Belegar gave pursuit north thru the badlands, and across the black mountains, with the Warlord always one step ahead. During this pursuit, Belegar gave witness to Orc and Goblin tribes gathering in numbers that he had not seen even in his time retaking the Eight Peaks, numbers that could only mean one thing- invasion! Belegar and his force finally found the army, camped in the midst of what was once a small dwarven settlement, the Stonehand Hold. Now reduced to rubble, a rage came over Belegar and his army charged straight in, finally routing the army of night goblins and sending them scrambling. After questioning a few captured goblins, and before executing them, it is discovered that Skarsnik was seeking a chest within the hld. Soon finding the devastated remnants of the Stonefist clan, Kalar Stonefist relayed the tale of the chest and his son’s treacherous quest to deliver it to Karak Azul. With a promise to rejoin him, Belegar leaves a small contingent with Kalar to assist him in getting the surviving woman and children to the safety of Karak Norn and to help bolster his son’s chances of success. With that, Belegar sets off to warn the King of Kings, Thorgrim Grudgebearer of what has transpired and of what he saw in the Badlands, while Kalar speedily heads to catch up with his son.

Karal Stonefist, the eldest son of the King of the Stonefist Clan Kalar Stonefist. Karal, a mere 108 years old, has been given a critical mission by his father, Kalar. Well-liked by all in the clan, Karal has led a life of relative ease and peace in the hold. With this quest, he can now prove that he is worthy to one day lead the Stonefists. He was tasked to travel to Karak Norn, retrieve a package from the king of Karak Norn, then proceed to travel to Karak Azul to present the package to Thorek Ironbrow for examination. A simple box inscribed with one glowing rune... Along with this the King of Karak Norn also gave him sent with him 10 of his best warriors, from his own personal guard (The Gryphons Talons), and a letter that he was told to present to each King that he came across on his way to Karak Azul, but oathsworn not to read himself. Little does the Dwarven realm know that they have entrusted the future of not only the Dawi, but of the world on his broad shoulders.

Another mousekiller log? Of course I'll follow this as well. Looking forward to seeing it based. ;)

I have no suggestions, but I do think he looks great! :)
A whole army of these will look very sweet.

30-06-2009, 19:03
nice use of blue and cream. the model is very nicely painted and i only have to say is get the darn base done and painted!

List seems like a good start. The one longbeard you have looks good. Can't wait to see more dwarfs.

30-06-2009, 19:14
As always he looks terrific. The blue and white works really well. I like the red gem in the helm too. It adds a little bit of dark color to an otherwise bright scheme.

30-06-2009, 21:04
Me like, keep it up mousemurderer :)

Bhalgur Surefire, another dwarf of a young age, being born the same year as Karal Stonefist, has quickly become one of the best and most reliable hunters of the Stonefist Clan. Not having a "proper" fighting force, Karal asked Bhalgur to gather his best hunters together to form a fine crossbow regiment. Bhalgur did this, and within a matter of hours the Surefires were ready for this grand adventure.

Well not that they looked bad in the first place, but they are really well painted now. Great overhaul, and I got to admit I'm a little jealous of your creamy white.
Very well done.

Neat. I'm really interested to see how this small force turns out. I'm not so sure about the thane with the sword or such a scranny sheild. Good luck.

Every dwarf of the Stonefist clan, no matter his station, is required to have a proffession and to be a warrior. In times of war the Stonefist clan calls its levies together into loose groups of individuals. In this case, the tree cutters of the Stonefist clan have banded together under the leadership of Dregar Treestump when they heard of the expedition of Karal. Sharpening their blades for the journey, this group is anxious to prove its worth in battle.

The Gryphon's Claw is an elite guild within Karak Norn that comprises some of the mightiest warriors within the hold, all of whom are oathsworn to the King of Karak Norn himself and would gladly give their lives in his service. The King has granted this small contingent to protect Karal on his quest, knowing what few other Dwarfs know, that the outcome of this mission could very well be the end for what remains of the Dwarven Empire.

The pride and joy of Karak Norn, the Dragons Breath is the oldest and still the most reliable cannon still in service. Led by the Engineer, Thorgrin Dragonbreath, this Cannon and its crew have turned the tide of many battles to the favor of the Dawi. As a final gesture of faith and confidence in the mission, the King of Karak Norn has gifted the use of the cannon for the duration of his quest.

Logan Battlefury, brother of Logrim Battlefury and the original heir apparent to the Battlefury Clan. Logan took the slayer oath many years ago, after fighting a decisive battle against a hording Night Goblin army. Outnumbered nearly ten to one, Logan and his father charged into battle knowing that victory was not possible. The Battlefury Clan fought valiantly, and somehow managed to route the Gobbo's, but at a terrible cost. Logan's father lost his life, as did three fourths of the remaining dwarf army. From this day, Logan and a handful of the surviving Battlefury Clan took the slayer oath, vowing to eradicate the Gobbo incursion into the kingdoms of the Dwarves and have since wandered the holds offering their might to any Dwarfs in need.

Once proud members of the Battlefury Clan, this group of Dwarfs have taken the Slayer Oath and vowed two things, to follow Logan Battlefury to the death and to ensure that that death comes at the cost of many Greenskin lives. Every member of the Oathsworn lost a great number of fathers, brothers, and sons during the battle of Jorgen Pass. After taking the oath, this group of Slayers have given up right to clan in order to wander the world freely, in search of there prey.

I like how one of the dwarfs has a orange beard in a "greybeard" unit :P I really enjoy the snow and bases. You wouldn't happen to have a pic of the bases right after they are spackled? I'm curious, as my whole Chaos Army needs nice shiny (relative term) bases. Great job, love the Hero Dwarf

21-09-2009, 04:19
hey man.. just got a chance to look through all of your armies (since they are all together right now) what models are those greybeards?

One of the runesmiths tasked with testing the rune bound chest in Karak Norn, Bardal was once the head smith of the clan. During the final attempt to break the bindings on the chest, Bardal and two other runesmiths were hit with powerful enegy from the chest, wiping there minds free. Bardal now can speak only in gibberish, but the one phrase that continues to come is "He is coming!". Where once he wielded proud hammer and pounded runes against anvil, Bardal now wields a field scythe and somehow maintains much of his power, carving intricate runes into the earth itself. After the expedition left, Bardal followed and continues following, though for reasons of his own imagining he stays hidden in the shadows, unbeknownst to the Dwarfs he follows.

So, what is up next??? We are going to do a Dragon Slayer, 10 Slayers, and a cannon to bring us to 1000 points.

Dark Raven: Thanks mate. For colors I usually use three (shadow, base, highlight), but I do progressive stages in between each to transition the colors together.

Zombies: Well sir, that is very nice of you to say.

08-12-2009, 03:27
Very cool man. I can't wait to see the slayers you paint. Will you be going with a braveheart thing with them or will you just deck them out with tattos?

08-12-2009, 10:10
Those are looking very nice.

08-12-2009, 19:20
Your palette is very realistic. What colors did you use on the blond beard of the dwarf on the far right bottom of your latest picture?

19-12-2009, 01:05
Ok folks, I have been really slacking on updates lately... i know i know...

Anyway, here is what we are scheduled to paint up next. The cannon is going to get a dip and repaint, along with the crew.

And here are the first three slayers that I am working on. So far, just basecoats.

Mr. Chair: For the blonde, I used a mix of Reaper Master Series Tanned Leather, Golden Blonde, and Desert Yellow.

mrtn: Thanks mate.

Dino: Probably leaning towards tattoos, though we are still early in the paint process.

19-12-2009, 01:43
mousekiller, you've always been among my favorite painters. You're style and skill is something I've never been able to match(as hard as I try), and even though I'm really happy with my current work on my Skaven(check out my project log "Children of the Horned Rat" if you would, I'd be honoured to have your opinion), I'm still insanely jealous and in awe of your work.

These Dwarfs are incredible, and the Slayers look like they're going to be yet another complete success and lesson in coolness. I'd love to one day face these bearded-ones on the tabletop with my glorious ratmen...although I know I'd be distracted the whole time with the amazing work you've done on them.

mousekiller, I know you get a lot of praise, but rest assured, it's beyond well deserved and I think you're an AMAZING painter. I can't wait to see more!

19-12-2009, 02:29
Very neat looking stuff so far. Is the Cannon? Flame Cannon? about finished or is it gonna get a repaint? Can't wait to see the slayers all painted up.

The slayers look good:)

31-03-2010, 15:34
Ok, the slayers are coming along (just slow going these days, I have been busy)... but I started the base for the cannon and crew and thought I would post an in progress bit for you as I have had a few questions in the past on how I do my bases.

So, to start I cut a piece of plasticard to the size that I wanted. Some people really like square bases, but I found a while ago that for my scenic bases I prefer something a bit nonstandard - after all it is really just acting as a movement tray and there to compliment the miniature anyway. Once I had that cut, I cut a piece of a 2mm foam sheet to fit over top of it and then cut the bases slots where the miniatures will go before gluing it on. I wanted my engineer to have a slightly elevated position, so I found a nice piece of rock to do just that for me. On top of this I also glued a piece of 2mm foam and cut a slot for him to fit into. I also added a few bits from the battle for skull pass set.

This is what it looks like with the models. Keep in mind that these models are going to get a repaint.

The next step is to add spackling compound to the whole thing. I also added some more rock pieces, a bucket of water for the cannon stuffer, and a couple of barrels.

And again with the models...

Well, that is it for now, be back later with the next update.

King Thor: I use woodland scenics snow effect with elmers glue, the trick is how much water and glue to add. More water and glue = more slushy snow. Less water and glue will give you clumpy snow. Hope that helps.

n810: Just something so special about them...

Localicious: Well thanks mate...

Ereinion: Thanks for the following mate...

Nice base. Now all you need to do is paint faster. Keep it up.

01-04-2010, 09:07
The Dwarf Cannon is very impressive.

Where did you get it from?

Commodus Leitdorf
01-04-2010, 13:15
Oooo Lovely! I love the display base for it as well. Very....Dwarvern! (Damn my inability to come up with creative descriptions!)

01-04-2010, 16:35
Great usees for skull pass bits. :D

01-04-2010, 19:02

That's the general way I do my own warmachine trays, only ramped up to eleven! I'm insipred to go a bit farther henceforth.

02-04-2010, 16:00
Ok, so the next step for the base is to sand the whole thing. I use a mix of sand and small rocks for the dwarves. Also, I built a set of steps for the engineer to get onto the rock with.

And here it is primered.

And, just so you don't think I am slacking too much on actual painting, here is an update on the slayers... still a little more to go though.

Dino: I am trying mate... *cracks the whip*
fluffy: From Reaper Miniatures (www.reapermini.com)
Leitdorf: Your use of vocabularly leaves me speechless... lol... thanks.
n810: Yeah, it is definitely hard to use those bits normally...
amysrevenge: Do you have a link to some of yours? I would love to see them...

02-04-2010, 16:29
I absolutely love scenic warmachine bases like the one you're working on. Great work! Also your painting and color choice on all the infantry is stunning- not garish like a lot of painters tend to do but well thought out and excuted. Great job!

02-04-2010, 18:07
amysrevenge: Do you have a link to some of yours? I would love to see them...

Not sure about the etiquette of posting a pic in someone else's thread. I'll put it in here for now, but I can change it to a link if you prefer.

As you can see, it's the same sort of idea as you've got going on, only with a fraction of the detail.

03-04-2010, 00:46
Good, good. Now keep cracking that whip and painting.

08-04-2010, 03:29
Ok, update on the cannon.... what do you think so far?

stuffburger: Thank you sir, I appreciate that.

amysrevenge: I don't mind at all. That is a cool base, and thank you for posting it up. Is that an old school hero quest orc I spy?

Dino: Ouch... ok ok ok... I am painting... stop the flogging already...

08-04-2010, 04:13
Nice. Looking very nice. Been meaning to ask what range are the crew from?

08-04-2010, 06:19
Gorgeous!.. the basing looks rly Dwarf-ish!! And the crew - awesome.

08-04-2010, 06:37
amysrevenge: I don't mind at all. That is a cool base, and thank you for posting it up. Is that an old school hero quest orc I spy?

Apparently it is. I got it in a big multi-part purchase on eBay without really knowing what I was buying beyond a big pile of orcs. Wasn't active in the hobby in those days, so what do I know lol.

16-04-2010, 20:29
Update time folks. Got a bit more done on the crew and cannon... still need to do the beards, the metal bits, finish the white, leather bits, quite a bit it seems... hmmm...

I also did a bit on Logan, though he also has a lot more to get done...

Dino: From Reaper miniatures (www.reapermini.com).
Loca: Thanks mate.
amysrevenge: lol. Those are what I first started painting back in the day... of course it was a completely different level of painting back then... I think I tried to get my hands on as many Hero Quest boxes as I could just for the mini's...

16-04-2010, 20:52
Woah those turned out great :D

Dear Mousekiller.

Hello, my name is Kaos.

I must inform you that i like your dwarfs. And further i like that cannon very much. And also i think i need to adress the subject of your paintingskills. They are very good as far as I can conclude. Some would say theyre "awesome" and i think i need to agree.

There need to be more pictures of more models in here and i would like you to see to this problem, if we can call it that, and keep on painting and showing us your models as they are finished.

If you fail to do this i must send a complaint in three copies and i do not wish this.

Dearest wishes
Kaos (Department of Miniatureviewing)

Hi there!

I really like your army. Great paint job.

The cannon is just ace - good old Bob Olley.

17-04-2010, 03:45
Nice work on the cannon and slayer.

27-04-2010, 04:02
COMPLETION.... that is to say... a drop in the bucket of what needs to be done overall...

Anyway, the cannon is done. I have updated the beginning of the thread (as I always do, I go back and edit in the completed photos from the beginning) with A LOT of pictures of the cannon and a bit of history on this cannon. I am going to post some pics here just of the overall model, but if you want to see it in more detail scroll back to the beginning of the thread and scroll down to where the cannon is, and if you haven't seen the rest of the army you can check them out as well.

27-04-2010, 11:40
Aww sweet it's finished :D
Love the snow. :)

Best dwarf canon and crew I have ever seen.

27-04-2010, 18:57
Sweet. Makes me want to do cool stuff like that for my war machines. Need to see more dwarves.

27-04-2010, 19:55
Awesome Dawi army, it's giving me ideas for a small force of my own ...

05-06-2010, 17:22
Ok, with the purchase of photo shop, I thought it might be time for an update on the dwarves, not only for comments on the dwarves themselves but also on the pictures.

So, as far as progress goes, I have finished all of the skin on these guys for all 10 of them. The rest are in various stages of completion. Three of them have received tattoos, which hopefully the pictures will represent well. This is the direction I am going with these dwarves, so let me know what you think. Also, picture advice is very helpful.

This picture I am not sure if I am happy with, though I can't put my finger on what. I suppose it still seems to be a bit blurry, which is increasingly the case when there is more then one model in the shot.

These three are all done just a bit different, with different levels of brightness.

gyttja: Thanks.

mrtn: Thanks.

Cessarus: Then I can only reply with... thanks.

n810: Thanks mate.

Lorcryst: Can't wait to see them.

05-06-2010, 21:28
I love your stuff. Yours was one of the plogs that got me started. (I loved your Night Goblins). You have such an individual style. The muted tones. You make even current minis look old skool. Lovely stuff. The Longbeards are oustanding. You remain a huge source of inspiration. Good to see you still going strong.

06-06-2010, 17:27
Slayers look really sweet. I like the orange hair a lot. Can't wait to see the unit finished.

14-11-2011, 01:43
Well.... it has been over a year since I have done any serious painting. I am officially blaming work for this indiscretion... and moving across the country. In order to ease myself back into it, I picked up some half finished mini's from the Games Workshop 7th edition release... you remember, the really cheap plastic dwarfs.

Anyway, here they are... adding them to the dwarf army.

You really did make those minis look nice! (and I know they aren't much to look at so that's an accomplishment!)

14-11-2011, 04:28
I also added another 6 Crossbowmen, fleshing the unit out to 16.

N810 and Leitdorf: Thanks gents, really appreciate it. Great to see you both still hanging around after all this time!

14-11-2011, 05:01
Happy to see you back, and it seems you didn't loose your skills during the past year.
What's next on the workbench ?

14-11-2011, 06:43
Well, I love this new points system... it really makes my style of army painting convenient. I think I should finish the Dragon Slayer that I started last year... for a measly 50 points not without any runes...

Great seeing you again... definitely gonna have to check out what you have been up to!

14-11-2011, 06:55
Nice to see you back. All the dwarves are looking rather cool man. Keep It up.

Looks great. You have inspired me to go back to my dwarfs and finally repaint them.

How did you paint the rocks on the warmachine base? I always have trouble getting stone to look natural but you've done it spot on.

15-11-2011, 02:19
So, on to some more detail business. I started working on this guy a year ago, so I figure it is about time to finish him. He is in the same boat as my Ogre Tyrant, probably will be completely done sometime next week, depending on how much actual painting I get in this week... so that means about a week to hit me with critiques on what to do better.

I have added some color to him, hoping to bring out some character. The blue paint on his face and arms, the gems, and the green dye in his hair... let me know what else (besides the bits that are still not done, like the fur wrap around is center) I can do to make him stand out... Thanks!

I am working on some of the other army stuff as well... finishing out a unit of 20 Empire Handgunners (5 more to go), a unit of 20 skeletons (10 more to go), and I am just about ready to primer Skarsnik for painting...

THANKS FOR ALL THE WELCOME'S BACK, I really appreciate it. I am very glad to be back and painting again, and look forward to sharing the hobby with you all again!

Dwarfs are best. Your Dwarfs are among the best. A work of splendour. :)

15-11-2011, 14:04
Surely a Dwarf army that is pleasant to behold. The colours work really well on dwarfs.

The woodgrain on the weapon handles are a nice touch too.

You say you use some woodland scenics product for your snow. Is it this one you mean: "Ground Cover » Soft Flake Snow"

15-11-2011, 14:06
Quite possibly the best Dwarf army I have ever seen.

15-11-2011, 15:28
Very characterful slayer. I don't know how you can make him pop more besides maybe highlighting the gold up another layer, you'd want it to match the gold on the other dwarves though so that might keep it out of the options. Also, you've got some mold lines on his hammer.

20-11-2011, 06:08
So, a little work got done this week, but I think he is definitely getting there. I changed some things around, to better tie in the colors. Another few hours of painting and I might be able to call him done... Any other tips or suggestions?

Griffonclaw: Thanks mate, glad to be back.... that was waaay too long without doing any painting.

KNC: Thanks mate, that is very nice of you to say!

Zywus: That is it exactly. Just play around with the glue, water, snow flake mix until you get a consistency that works for you.

Daniel36: Thank you... still loads to paint :)

mdiscala: Thanks mate, I shaved those mould lines down, so hopefully they are no longer a problem. Also, decided to go with a blue hue for the hammer heads, though I am not entirely sure if I have sold myself on them yet...

21-11-2011, 00:39
Great looking slayer, I do love that miniature.

And good to see you back at it.

21-11-2011, 01:47
Ok, going to call him done now... as always I would like to do more with him... but at some point you have to move on. I am not completely happy with the axeheads and I tried a few new techniques for the gems that I am not totally sold on... in any case, without further ado...

I've nothing more to add than "great job".

26-12-2011, 03:58
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Got the first rank of Slayers done...

So... what else is on the table...

Orcs and Goblins: Working the robes on skarsnik.
Empire: Basecoated the last rank of handgunners and prepped the movement tray for painting.
Beasts: Still haven't really done anything with these... so primed and ready to paint when I feel the tug.
Mortals of Chaos: Getting the next two ranks of marauders pinned into place.
Skeletons: Close to being done with the third rank. Trying a green eye glow thing that I am not convinced of yet.

And, whats next for the dwarves is the second rank of slayers:

Sirolf: Thanks mate!

mrtn: Thanks.

26-12-2011, 09:08
Nice slayers. Looking forward to seeing some beastmen from you.

26-12-2011, 12:30
Beautiful. I follow your thread on Bugmans too. Lovely Dwarves!

26-12-2011, 12:46
Gorgeous looking dwarves!

Your style suits them very well, realistic looking and exceptionally well based!

26-12-2011, 14:45
Very nice. The slayers are just plan awsome. Seems like the second rank is of to a great start.

27-12-2011, 08:06
*Jaw hits the floor*

This should be the poster boy for the new dwarf AB.

27-12-2011, 10:43
Cool! Like the bases! How much time did you spend for an single slayer?

27-12-2011, 22:00
Great looking army so far, very inspiring, I think the bases look great, got me excited enough to re-start on my dwarf bsb now :)

20-02-2012, 06:54
Finally done :)... spent the last two weeks in the field, so I don't really count that time against me.

So, here they are:

vote at cmon: http://www.coolminiornot.com/299191

So, what else has been getting done:

Vampires: Almost done with the last rank of skeles, just need to finish up the wood and bases, and make a 20 slot base for them.

Ogres: Almost done with the first rank of ogres. Painted the banner up, finished all three pants, all skin. Need to do tattoos still, and the metal bits need a good rusting.

Orcs and Goblins: Getting much closer to being done with skarsnik, did the wood bits, fixed the gobbla scales and horn parts. Still need to do the bone bits on skarsniks head piece and disgustify the inside of gobbla's mouth. Also the dwarf beard bits on skarsniks front side still need to be done.

Daemons: re-basing the daemon prince... was originally going to do an all lava base... but I really don't think I would like how that would look across a board in an army... instead I think I will do land with bits of lava bursting thru.

Mortals of Chaos: Skin started on the third rank of marauders.

Skaven: Painting the base, almost done. Also started the skin on the rat monstrosity.

Beasts: No prgress,

Empire: Basing the first of the knights panter. Ready for primer.

Dwarfs: Up next will be:

Bardal the Mad

mrtn: Gonna paint them soon, I swear :)
purplebeard: Thanks mate.
gogs: Thanks!
Dino: All done now :)
Momus: Would probably need a few thousand more points :)
Mercutius: It is really hard to say, since these were a project I started last year and picked back up this year. If I wasn't so scattered, I could probably do a single dwarf in about 6 painting hours.
Rikk: Glad to hear mate, can't wait to see them!

20-02-2012, 07:03
Wow great paintjobs those slayers. Love the way you did the horn with the champion slayer. It looks like real, lik you could really blow it to call for help.
The slayer unit looks so cool.

Love to see more

It has been a while. One divorce, a deployment to Afghanistan, and a subsequent move to Hawaii. I have painted a few things in that time, quite a bit with the dwarfs (they seem to be my fall back when I don't want to think about color schemes, etc). I have added a bolt thrower, a unit of Thunderers, and finished up the Ironbreakers. Currently have on the table a unit of warriors and an organ gun (almost done with both)... with another thane and runelord on standby. Took some pictures to update, but they really came out like garbage. I can't find my photo box, so I may have to go get another one... and while I am at it maybe a new camera. Any suggestions on good ones? I really want some nice, professional looking photos.

Finished the organ gun. Calling this one the "Quintuplet". Once I finish the baggage train, the next thane, and add a few extras to existing units this army will be at 2000 (the first full army I have ever painted). Speaking of which - really nice dwarfs. Very good colour balance and I agree with Harry about the Ironbreakers and how you dealt with all the metal on them. Also - you really pulled the painted wood on the warmachines off.

I'm just bummed that I didn't think of doing that when I painted my Ironbreakers. It's really a great look.

I remember a while back seeing TBO (the Bearded One) also doing colored patterns on the scale mail of the new Longbeards.

THE BAGGAGE TRAIN - Dwarf Warriors

After the assault on the Stonefist Hold by Skarsnik, Thane Kalar calls for all the remaining Dawi of the hold that can hold an axe to accompany him to rally with his son Karal. Although he baggage train is made up of the elderly, wounded, and some of the youngest, most inexperienced fighters who are primarily tasked with guarding the supplies of the army, the heart of these warriors makes it a formidable force for any that choose to come against it.

Kalar was the one time ruler of the Stonefist Hold, on the outskirts of Karak Norn, and paid tribute to the King of Karak Norn. When a mysterious chest was found in the belly of Karak Norn, King Brokk Ironpick sent a summons to the Stonefist clan for immediate assistance. Loyal to the bone, Kalar immediately dispatched his son to retrieve the item and take it to Karaz Azul, where it could be investigated by the greatest runesmith to ever live, Thorek Ironbrow. Soon after, a large army led by the goblin warlord, Skarsnik, attacked the small Stonefist hold with no warning. With little time to react, Kalar and the clan fought as valiantly as they could but were soon overrun. If not for the goblins pausing to loot and raze the hold, the clan may not have survived. Kalar, knowing he could not defeat such a force, began to gather the survivors and make the treacherous trek to Karak Norn. On the way, a large dwarven force led by Belegar Ironhammer, King of Karak Eight Peaks, found the devastated force and informed them that he had scattered the goblin force but that the hold had been completely destroyed. During this time, the two discovered the reason for Skarsniks brutal attack had been to find a chest, and soon the realism of the importance of this chest became more apparent. Leaving a unit of ironbreakers and an organ gun with Kalar, the two part ways, Belegar to report to the King of Kings, Thorgrem Grudgebearer, and the other to reunite with his endangered son.

In the aftermath of the attack on the Stonefist Hold, many of the surviving Dwarfs swore vengeance in one form or another. Kruger Treestump, a younger brother to Dragar Treestump, returned to the ruins of the Hold and gathered what materials he would need from the wreckage of the one-time settlement. Soon, a simple yet effective stone thrower was built with the sole purpose of seeking vengeance against the Goblin horde who had caused such destruction and death.

The Dragon's Defenders are a small detachment of marksmen, hired directly by Thorgrin Dragonsbreath, to defend the Dragon's Breath Cannon, allowing it to maximize damage on the battlefield and protecting it during transport.

This update reflects the additional 6 hand gunners painted to reinforce the original 10 strength regiment from earlier in the thread. I think they look much better with more troopers!

Leitdorf: I really like it too, the stone thrower itself is a bit small though.

Cassarus: Thanks my friend.

2000 points of Dwarf goodness.

So far, the army consists of miniatures from Reaper, Games Workshop, and West Wind Productions. Soon we will be reinforcing it with more, and a variety of other manufacturers as well.

Here are the Heroes - 2 Thanes, 1 Rune Lord, 1 Dragon Slayer, and a Master Engineer.

And the gun line... my favorite part! 1 Cannon, 1 Organ Gun, 1 Catapult, and 1 Bolt Thrower

The Shooters: 16 Quarrelers and 16 Thunderers

And the core of the army, the fighters: 30 Warriors, 10 Longbeards, 12 Ironbreakers, and 10 Slayers.

And if you are really as excited as I am to be at 2000 points of stunty goodness, you can head over to CMON and throw them a vote: 2000 Point Dwarf Army (http://www.coolminiornot.com/394589)
