View Full Version : 500pts chaos mortals! speed painting.

13-07-2009, 18:11
ok i have untill the 24th to get 500pts together for a campaign......i'm not know for my speed so here goes......the hounds (20mins each)
khorne hounds

more to follow!

13-07-2009, 20:29
thats pretty good for 20 mins a hound. Now is there going to be a specific theme for your chaos army? and what kind of list will you have? Although atm.. I am sure your figures at the least will look good.

13-07-2009, 21:02
it will be a khorne list, i say 20mins i get an hour a night to paint. i nearly got 3 done.....
new pics.......

The ,a nice balance mortals list: 2 blocks of marauders, a block of warriors, a block of knights....some hounds and fast cav and then a rare.

For characters i have the khorne lord on juggy. i will add a marauder seer and a champion on foot.

what rare would you recomend??

13-07-2009, 21:53
very nice looking hounds there mate, they loov really cool, and very different.

Lord Dan
13-07-2009, 22:36
Gorgeous color on the fur. Are they dipped?

13-07-2009, 22:53
no not dippeed. i used lots of washes to speed up the normal slow layring process. i think they achieve a decent gaming standard.

13-07-2009, 23:00
no not dippeed. i used lots of washes to speed up the normal slow layring process. i think they achieve a decent gaming standard.
I think they achieve a more than decent gaming standard, in fact they look very good. Quite impressive too, for only 1 hour.
Keep it up!

14-07-2009, 07:27
Yeah, I have to say, I'm impressed. The colour of the fur looks quite stunning against the regular skin colour. You definately chose a winning colour scheme there.
What colours and washes did you use to get it to look like that?

Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull
14-07-2009, 08:17
THe hounds look really good, I'm looking forward to the rest of the warband.

14-07-2009, 21:22
"Yeah, I have to say, I'm impressed. The colour of the fur looks quite stunning against the regular skin colour. You definately chose a winning colour scheme there.
What colours and washes did you use to get it to look like that? "

base coat mechrite red
dry brush blood red
medium drybrush orange
light drybrush yellow

wash in the red wash....dead simple.

what rare choice should i go for i have narrowed it down to either spawns or a giant?

thanks for the feedback!!!

15-07-2009, 07:23
i managed a cheeky hound before work......

1 to go then marauders!

15-07-2009, 08:06
Nice models. What colours did you use on the base edges? People keep telling me (spamming me, seems more appropriate) to lose my green edges, so I'm thinking I should re-paint them.

The list you mentioned early on is not the 500 point list I hope: 2 marauder blocks, warriors, knights and a rare... incl. Jugger and hero on foot? Because that won't fit!

I think the giant is a fun choice. Always a laugh to see what he'll do in each game!

15-07-2009, 08:11
ha do you use goblin green? the above are graveyard earth....scorched brown looks good too.

Elazar The Glorified
15-07-2009, 13:21
You seem to be getting through the warhounds at quite a speed. They are quite easy models to speed paint, I'll be interested to see whether you can keep quite so efficient a pace when you get on to the nitty gritty regiments.
But as for the painting itself. You've done a really good job. The wash does a great job of adding depth to the fur and the colour choice is really good. Looking forward to seeing your army progress. Good luck with it :)

15-07-2009, 14:08
Like the results on the dogs I hope that the rest of the army will be as god looking.

15-07-2009, 19:31
ok been experimenting with the warriors.....i estimate 30 mins per mini.....this is the test on thee red what do you think???

Lord Dan
15-07-2009, 19:50
Absolutely stunning.

15-07-2009, 19:54
Absolutely stunning.
The army will look very good.

15-07-2009, 21:07
Excellent red! How do you paint it?

15-07-2009, 21:30
red is mechrite red
drybrush blood red
then dust in orange and yellow
wash with the red wash....

after walking the dogs i have finished the model (except base and shield)

i'm happy with this as a rank and file....i think the unit will look good.

Lord Dan
15-07-2009, 21:49
May I recommend black or white for the cape? Right now i think the model simply has too much brown. Otherwise fantastic work.

15-07-2009, 21:56
the major problem is that both the colours mentioned require time to make look good. i will have a go and see if i can get one to look good....quickly.

15-07-2009, 22:58
Very dark green capes?

16-07-2009, 00:29
Dark green could work yes, or bone. Or yellow, that works for me. ;)

Nice start on the army.

16-07-2009, 02:25
Wow. Looks great. I love the color scheme. Red and brown. Who would have thought?

Lord Dan
16-07-2009, 05:22
Black is actually quite easy:

-Basecoat chaos black
-Drybrush shadow grey
-Dust space wolves grey
-Wash with black ink

lord marcus
16-07-2009, 06:22
red is mechrite red
drybrush blood red
then dust in orange and yellow
wash with the red wash....

after walking the dogs i have finished the model (except base and shield)

i'm happy with this as a rank and file....i think the unit will look good.

define "dust" please.

16-07-2009, 06:29
I will take a pic for you later!!

Lord Dan
16-07-2009, 06:42
Dusting is a drybrush even lighter than normal drybrushing. There should be so little liquid in your brush that you might as well be placing colored powder on the model. The result are very faint highlights that brighten up the model without overwhelming your previous drybrushing.

16-07-2009, 07:31
before i shoot to work...here he is with shield

16-07-2009, 20:45
Most intriguing ... really nice paint jobs, and those were speed-painted ... I want to see where this goes ...

Good luck on your army, if you keep that level of quality, it will be beautifull AND quickly done !

18-07-2009, 20:56
here is my only mage....sucks that they don't get dd anymore....never mind! he is going to bee a seer....the staff will have blood dripping from it.

18-07-2009, 21:00
here is a little tutorial on how to paint the red...as you can see i requires very little skill!

this is mega quick.

Does this help with how i got the colour?

18-07-2009, 22:37
Yes, if only you didnt cover the label on the last paint pot with a chaos warrior XD!

18-07-2009, 22:54
I bet that's Sunburst Yellow. Clever use of the washes btw.

18-07-2009, 23:15
it is sunburst! my apologies for covering it up! i can do the same for the cloaks so you see just how fast they are to do!

Lord Dan
19-07-2009, 05:31
How many layers of blood red over chaos black did it take to make it look so smooth?

19-07-2009, 06:14
I'm full of ambition to collect armies but have never able to create even one as I got bad habit of spending too much time on each minis, even rank and file. I must say your work is inspirative. The results are very good, clean and kind of amazing for speed painting.

19-07-2009, 07:15
the red is mechrite re followed by blood....i'm as bad as gw missing out sections of tutorials!!!!!

"I'm full of ambition to collect armies but have never able to create even one as I got bad habit of spending too much time on each minis, even rank and file. I must say your work is inspirative. The results are very good, clean and kind of amazing for speed painting"

i was like this too. spending hours paintins a 5 point marauder!

i find if you want to have an army you need to Layout a project. you can join my project if you like and try for 500 points by the 24th. After that it will be 200pts every week! you can still have time to do the full monty on your favourite minis between projects. once you have 2000pts in each game system you play then you can look at making a jaw dropping army!

19-07-2009, 13:59
no not dippeed. i used lots of washes to speed up the normal slow layring process. i think they achieve a decent gaming standard.

Could I ask how you went about doing this for the dogs flesh?

19-07-2009, 15:46
i can do the same for the cloaks so you see just how fast they are to do!
That would be appreciated. Thx for the first one btw.

20-07-2009, 03:49
Nice models. What colours did you use on the base edges? People keep telling me (spamming me, seems more appropriate) to lose my green edges, so I'm thinking I should re-paint them.

I was thinking about posting exact the same that you've posted there ghrino xD
I use gobo green for my chaos army, same old goblin green as in the 80's lol and everybody keeps spamming me about changing to brown.
Now I saw your bases and thought they were painted with cathlan brown. Are you 100% sure you painted your bases with graveyard earth and nothing more than graveyard earth? Don't have my paints here, but I can't imagine that the bases could look that fine with graveyard! Maybe are the pictures the reason why I love your bases?

Anyways, nice plog. Subscribed! ;D

Nephilim of Sin
20-07-2009, 05:27
Speed painting? Washes? These look amazing! This looks great, plain and simple. And the bases are fantastic.

20-07-2009, 05:48
Really good quality here. My fav must be the hounds, good use of colours and washes and the basing is really good. Im looking forward to more. Oh and 5 star ranking for this un ;)

20-07-2009, 06:36
hey all thanks for the posts....i'll have some more tutorial bits soon......and yes the are graveyard earth!

20-07-2009, 19:40
hi lee (its jonny the kid wiv the inquisitor space marine) man these guys look cool

Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull
21-07-2009, 21:39
Great models, and quick to do, it might inspire me to do my own chaos army.

22-07-2009, 06:20
ok just do the test model for marauders..... what do you think?

22-07-2009, 06:24
The red could be more darker. Now the pants look kinda non-threatening as the pose is also somewhat weird (thanks to the GW marauder-range not to to you). Other than that I think that your painting is marvelous!

Lord Dan
22-07-2009, 07:12
I'd bring the skin up a bit and do anything but brown or red for the pants.

22-07-2009, 12:45
i have darkened the red a bit and it looks way better now. Why not red for the pants??

22-07-2009, 12:52
I think it might make them look like athletes or players of some sports team. When seen by themselves. When seen along with the rest of your army they'll look great.

22-07-2009, 12:53
Red pants = too much red, I think ... and a bit too close to the skin tone.

Your minis are really well painted, but that test marauder look like a "red blob" from afar ... the pants look like a good place to add a contrasting colour to help define the model.

Perhaps grey, or black pants, to break the "sea of red" effect ?

Elazar The Glorified
22-07-2009, 12:56
Real men don't wear red pants ;) I think you should use brown for the pants and save the red for the armour personally. Your warrior test looks awesome too. The paint scheme is very effective for them and still quite simple to paint at the speed you're wanting. Looking forward to seeing regiments of these guys.

22-07-2009, 13:57
i have darkened the red a bit and it looks way better now. Why not red for the pants??
Probably because people think it's too much red, I think it's okay. Especially since your going for speed painting. Brown may however be a better looking alternative, and it should be done quicker than red.

Real men don't wear red pants ;)
Smiley or not, this is outrageous! My manly men of Hochland would certainly beg to differ. (:p)
*cough* On the other points I agree with Elazar. If you change the pants to brown you'll probably change the loincloth to red, so there will still be enough red on the mini.

It's a good paintjob though, feel free to give a damn about our opinions. :)

Well they are soft southmen... ;) No Marauder worth his salts will be caught wearing get-up like that :D

Anyway, you can have your thread back now! ;)

Lord Dan
22-07-2009, 16:02
Why not red for the pants??

When viewed as an army your paintjobs are going to be washed out by the sheer volume of red. This works fine in 40K where the models are spaced out and individually visible, but when they're blocked together in formations they look like blocks of whatever color is prominent. This goes back to my comment earlier about some kind of color to break up the red and brown.

Whatever the case, I think the painting is fantastic.

22-07-2009, 16:35
i will have a little play with colours and see where i get!!!

do you not think one big red tide would look scary???

Lord Dan
22-07-2009, 17:03
No scarier than any other color of tide, no. Unless, of course, it resembled this tide. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKbEI8pDz0A)

See if you can pull that off. ;)

22-07-2009, 17:34
i personaly like the marauder the red looks fine in my opinion

23-07-2009, 19:05
Nice work, I particularly like the warrior, very nice job! The painting on the marauder is neat as well, but I agree with Lorcryst there that the red is overpowering and the skin doesn't stand out very well. I'm curious to see what you've come up with!

And since tomorrow is the 24th, I am wondering how you're doing on making the 500pts!

23-07-2009, 21:41

slight delay on the deadline!!!!

my wife has had an operation, as such i am hving to run the house work and take care of her (she can hardly move.......so for the next week or so im changing roles from speed painter to speed nurse......doh!!

on a separate note i want to take my army once complete to A TOURNEY!! are there any gamers near worcester that play with the latest tourmament big hitters?????

i have 5 warriors and marauders to complete for 500pts i would have got them done tonight and tomorrow!

23-07-2009, 22:00
sounds cool post up the pics soon man i really like the warriors

Lord Dan
23-07-2009, 22:51
Sorry about your wife. Looking forward to another update.

24-07-2009, 09:55
I hope your wife gets better quickly ... operations are always a pain in the neck ...

24-07-2009, 12:57
can i ask about the scheme,

was it

1) Base coat mecrite
2)Blood red secondary base coat
3) dry brush fiery orange
4) dry brush sunburst yellow
5) layers of ball red

Can i ask how you did the brown as well! Keep up the work its awersome! Also i hope your wife recovers quickly. Best luck

24-07-2009, 16:20
I hope your wife recovers quickly! Goodluck with combining your painting and nursing skills!

26-07-2009, 11:41
ok i have had no time to do any painting but today i'm gonna do some bases...

and i stuck with the red...sorry!

superglue sand and slate mix onto the base.

26-07-2009, 15:38
undercoat back......

basecoat in the foundation grey.

wash in devlan mud

drybrush in the Foundation grey and edge in graveyard earth.

26-07-2009, 15:40
Hmmm ... well, when seen from another angle, and with several minis instead of one, the red works, I guess ...

I'd still like to see an "unit shot", just because I still have doubts on all that red, but your flesh, weapons and helmets are top notch !

26-07-2009, 16:09
i will get a unit up asap. my marauders are going to be iin units of ten though!

26-07-2009, 16:24
I also like your painting...very similar style to myself, ie - base coat, dry brush, dusting, washes in-between. Quick and efficient.

I will make one comment though. With the marauders on foot the models themselves have mank looking heads and arms imo. If you were going to be putting any mara horsemen in your army I would hold off on putting the foot sloggers together untill you had the horsemen kit. You get like 13 extra heads and multiple arm and bits banners etc which make the foot guys look much better.

Other than that great work. I look forward to seeing more of your stuff.

26-07-2009, 16:27
thanks for the advice. i will have 40 marauders on foot and two horse units. i will do my second set with horse heads.....and mix em all up!

26-07-2009, 17:28
they look really cool keep it up hav you started the lord on juggy yet or is he scheduled for a later date

26-07-2009, 19:34
yes i'm saving the lord on juggy for a later date (after the marauders hounds and warriors). i will paint him properly!!

26-07-2009, 19:50
i want to see this 'properly' cus these look awesome and your sayin these arnt done 'properly'.

Elazar The Glorified
26-07-2009, 19:58
They look really well painted but I'm still not a fan of their red pants lol ;) Looking forward to seeing what you do with the Juggerlord when you get to him :)

26-07-2009, 22:57
I really like the way these are turning out, especially at that rate!

A comment though. I personally find the edges of your bases a bit too light for the rest of the basing. I'd prefer either Chaos Black or Scorched brown rims instead. Give them a try and see if you agree.

Keep up the good work!

26-07-2009, 23:37
i will have a play with the base....and see which looks best. night all!

27-07-2009, 06:01
someone just traded me a bunch of figures for painting 50 marauders.. not looking forward to it, but i'm going to have to re-visit this thread to check on how to get them done fast!
nice job man

02-08-2009, 21:57
ok i'm back....no more nurse duties!!! i just need to get going again!

02-08-2009, 22:09
I think the red is fine, just get speed painting, quick!

03-08-2009, 21:24

the red debate....... this should give you a better idea!

thumbs up or not?

03-08-2009, 22:19
Im thinking black pants. They kind of looks like they just got off the field of a semi pro football game. Would help to see them next to your other painted guys to see how they fit with them though.

03-08-2009, 23:10
I think it looks great. I dont think the red is overpowering at all...

03-08-2009, 23:10

03-08-2009, 23:29
Ooooh Pretteh, is that an armeh shot?

03-08-2009, 23:36
i would leave them red really...
i like how it looks...and marks the god right....and im a fan of bright colours :P

04-08-2009, 00:00
It fits in pretty well with the rest of your army so yeah keep it.

04-08-2009, 06:51
not an army shot as such....just gives an idea of how the red ties in.

04-08-2009, 19:50
ok just got in with some second hand ogres. i have cut off gut plates and added some furs....i will clean them up. what shall i do to make them more khorne??

04-08-2009, 20:04
Hey man, sweet army and well painted!

what shall i do to make them more khorne??

Skulls - lotts of skulls and maybe axes!

Blood for the blood God! :)

04-08-2009, 21:20
Tinted red skin, blood everywhere, skulls everywhere, red armour...

04-08-2009, 21:49
these mold lines on the ogres are soooooooo bad. shame on you GW!

04-08-2009, 22:17
I just made a unit of chaos ogres, you can see pics in my armydiary (link in sig). To make them look chaosy I used shoulder guards from old 5th ed chaos warriors, and sculpted fur and chainmail. And a couple of mutations.

04-08-2009, 23:00
cool thanks for the help!

05-08-2009, 19:31
i think those ogres look pretty khornate anyway just paint 'em red an bloody and walla khorne

05-08-2009, 21:05
ok just had a 30min paint session.......here is the ogre wip

they are really easy to paint....i wish i had done ogres now!!!

what do you think so far?

05-08-2009, 21:10
i think that ogre and the rest of your chaos look frekin awesome and especially since your speed painting them :D

05-08-2009, 21:43
i just need to find some opponents in the area now!!!!

Base and touch up to go!

06-08-2009, 11:04
all done

06-08-2009, 11:13
looks great

imm0rtal reaper
06-08-2009, 13:17
Very very nice looking, and for the time it's taking you, even more impressive. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the jugger lord. And when can we expect the cloak tut?

06-08-2009, 14:13
do you mean a tutorial??? sorry i forgot about that!

imm0rtal reaper
06-08-2009, 14:14
Yeah a tutorial lol:)

Idle Scholar
06-08-2009, 15:48
I can only echo what everyone else has said, excellent painting amazingly quickly!

06-08-2009, 16:43
Firstly still amazing work. Now you said that the ogre was really easy to pain, I've had trouble painting them for some reason, so my question is how do you paint them especially the skin? Thanks keep up the good work.

06-08-2009, 20:58
That looks great! If thats speed painting, I'd love to see slow painting!

06-08-2009, 21:02
i have 5 marauders to finish then i will do another ogre i will show you step by step how i do the skin!

foundation flesh.
drybrush dwarf flesh
dust elf flesh
wash in ogryn
touch up in foundation.

i have to say i wasn't sure about the wash by gw.....for speed i am converted!!!

can you still get gw ink anywhere?? my brown is runnig low!

thanks for the feedback!

07-08-2009, 19:45
im liking the ogre hes pretty khorny wat did you use for the gut plates instead of the generic ogre ones

07-08-2009, 20:41
The old series of GW inks are not available anymore, but you could fine some approaching shades in other ranges of paints (Valejo, I think) ... or switch to the new washes, those are readily available ...

That gut plate looks like a Chaos Marauder shield to me, but I might be wrong ...

07-08-2009, 21:06
Awesome looking models, especially as you've speed painted them.

07-08-2009, 22:40
yes they are shields from the marauders. i'm making a manticore at the mo....i need a lion head from the elf chariot. if anyone has a spare i will be happy to purchase it off you!

08-08-2009, 01:17
Incredible work...I can't even tell that the skin on your models is drybrushed. Very inspirational :)

08-08-2009, 10:20
Looks good, and the nice simple method gives very good results. I like that ogre in particular.

08-08-2009, 10:30
thanks all, anyone got any ideas oon improving them? apart from the red pants!!!!!

08-08-2009, 14:18
I think someone needs to sit you down and talk over the notion of speed painting. If you're this good even at speed, then please just do it worse. What you're doing is making a lot of people look bad.

Seriously, though, nice work.

08-08-2009, 15:04
i wish i had more time to paint though....i would love a new painted force (i sold my armies a while ago)

i will paint the hero on juggy and lord on manticore individually for the centre piece!

09-08-2009, 09:40
great work cant wait to see centre peices, perhaps you could take a break from the colour scheme and go a slightly different shade of red to make them stand out a bit more

09-08-2009, 12:25
yeah they will be slightly different shades......ive changed my mind and am going for a chaos dragon!

09-08-2009, 20:51
ok here is a sneak peak at the dragon i'm gonna make......lots of gs to go!

the heads need some gs to shape them. i chopped off the pointy ends because they looked naff.

these some old wings i'm gonna use as a base. i have removed a section and wi now go mad with the GS on them!

do you think he is big enough?

10-08-2009, 03:50
I think he's big enough. Nice idea by the way. But I have a question, where's the rider gonna site?

Nice army so far.

10-08-2009, 07:02
the lord on juggy comes with a fixing i will create something on his back!

10-08-2009, 19:24
i have started the gs....this is boring!!!!

i'm no sculpter so take it easy on me!

10-08-2009, 19:52
looks great, keep it up

10-08-2009, 20:57
I hate waiting.....setting time.
as you can see he is mising a hand.....it was badly cast. i will ram some blades and a skull chain off here with some strips of material tied in place.

10-08-2009, 22:02
last pic for the night....one head and wing to go!!

what do you thiink?

11-08-2009, 00:02
i like him so far...
but werent you doing a manticore instead?

11-08-2009, 05:21
ha yes, i was but i didnt have a lion.....i will do one later on in the project. its nice to have a choice!

Seal Cub

wow! That dragon is gonna be so awsome! nice work!

11-08-2009, 14:48
Very nice. Kinda find the left arm out of place kinda. But like how it's shaping up.

11-08-2009, 15:01
The Dragon conversion looks to be coming along nicely. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this guy as your army seems to be coming along at a rate of knotts! :D

11-08-2009, 21:20
ok i dont like the arm so pulled it off! what should i add??

i have to chop of the front spike on his back next and make a ridge for the saddle. then finish the second head and fix that arm!!!!!!

12-08-2009, 00:01
That's a great chaos dragon conversion, looking forward to see it painted. Will you speed paint it, or take your time on this one?
Not that I think your speed painting looks bad, quite the opposite. I'd just like to see how your painting looks when you take your time.

12-08-2009, 17:49
he looks awesome i like the wings alot im guessing there is going to be a chaos lord 'o' death on the top.what model will you use for the character?

12-08-2009, 18:14
Very nice. It's really starting to shape up. I think the dragon should be holding a person or horse. Who it looks is up to you.

12-08-2009, 18:42
I have been keeping an eye on this plog, i must admit i love the idea for that dragon. It has such a good pose!
Cant wait to see how that gets painted :D

12-08-2009, 19:30
thanks all the lord on top is going to be the khorne juggy chap coverted with a shield and large wep. i think i will go red and black for the dragon and guess what.....red for the lord. BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!

13-08-2009, 00:56
Hi Lee, looking really good, in such a short amount of time too! Smaller than I was expecting though or is that just the angle the photo was taken from??

13-08-2009, 08:32
Its because Mr Oakley has massive hands!

My name is Daniel and I am a wargamer

13-08-2009, 11:03
This is looking really nice!

Great idea with the Dragon, can't wait to see it finnished! As to its left hand, I think you should try to put a claw back on it; I'm really no fan of tentacles or other such mutations on Dragons.

Good luck with it!

13-08-2009, 13:18
the dragon is looking good, you have some really interesting stuff there.

13-08-2009, 14:48
Can that dragon stand up on its own? It looks so front heavy! I notice you are proping it up in its pictures; is this because it is drying or not set yet?

It looks really great, but it seems to have the problem I often have, where the models base is not enough to keep it from tipping over. How do you plan on overcomming this? (If it indeed is actually even a problem for you!)

13-08-2009, 20:09
it will go on a chariot base it was too heave for the 50mm one.....i am waiting for a delivery!

" Its because Mr Oakley has massive hands!"

ha, i will do a scale shot for you!

13-08-2009, 21:35
Hey there,

This is the first time I've seen this thread, I really like your models, the flesh and the metal is all done really well and I like the red...but I am a girl...and I do like bright colours :)

Well done, they are looking really good.

13-08-2009, 22:34
Hey, Lee, this is all looking really amazing!

What gold color did you use on the Ogre?

13-08-2009, 23:13
Gold?? there is no gold? do you mean the metal??

13-08-2009, 23:20
LOL! I hope I have not inadvertently insulted you - the metallic color that you used looks like a very pale gold on my monitor. What color is it?

14-08-2009, 20:58
not at all its silver with a wash over it...i

14-08-2009, 21:25
not at all its silver with a wash over it...i

What silver color and what wash specifically?

14-08-2009, 22:11
chainmail.....the wash is ink....brown yellow and some flesh mixed with a bit of water!

14-08-2009, 23:09
wow your chaos are all looking so cool really liking the look of the dragon
just out of interset how many points of painted chaos do u have now and when are you going to do the lord on juggy

15-08-2009, 09:09
painted about 700pts....all infantry and ogres. the lord on juggy will be painted hopefully next week.

Lord Dan
15-08-2009, 18:38
You should just bandage the left arm. I'd imagine an exposed severed arm to look nurgle, a spawny mutation to look tzeentch, and a "throw a band-aid on it and get back to killing" mentality to be distinctly Khorne.

20-08-2009, 22:06
onto the knights now.....i am waiting for the dragons rider

21-08-2009, 00:30
Looking good, could I trouble you for a group shot. Can't wait to see that dragon finished.

21-08-2009, 06:10
i am holding off on the army shot untill 2000pts!

21-08-2009, 11:12
Awesome looking knights!

I am really flabbergasted by the quality/speed ratio you're pumping out here.

Keep it up!

21-08-2009, 16:06
A really nice looking knight! I love the dragon idea....

21-08-2009, 16:38
I would also like to see a mini from you not painted in your 'speed' mod, but at the best you can offer! That must be very impressive then! :-)

The boyz
21-08-2009, 17:43
Just been surfing through your plog Leeoaks and considering this is ment to be a speed painted army, it looks very impressive. Wish I could speed paint like you, keep up the good work.

22-08-2009, 14:27
great looking knights love your blog

23-08-2009, 17:23

this is the knight done....just some grass to go. what do you think?.....i know he is RED!

i willl get this army done then i'll do some for the display case!

23-08-2009, 20:12

Seal Cub
24-08-2009, 00:29
Thats one great looking knight you have there!

Elazar The Glorified
24-08-2009, 09:36
The knight looks great. I love the flow and depth of colour you're managing to get from the reds in spite of the speed you're painting at. Very impressive stuff indeed! :)

24-08-2009, 10:11
I'm very impressed by this thread and got it subbed now. must make sure not to miss anything posted here by you.

I'm about to start work on my own Chaos army of khorne so your red's are an Inspiration!

I was just wondering how you make that silver colour. For example if I look at the knights shield I like that silver colour you have there a lot.

Is it boltgun metal washed with devlan mud??? Can you tell me what colours you used and how you have build them up?

Thanks in advance

24-08-2009, 14:19
Superb Khornate Knight !!

If I may ask, I'd like a close-up on the heads of the horse and knight ... I'm intrigued by those rusted(?) blades and I would love to see how you painted the horns, I have a problem painting that on my own Chaos Warriors :p

24-08-2009, 14:55
The painting is on a very good level, but I'm not sure about the colour scheme. There is to much red. Try to add some more colours like gold, silver, browns, greys, black.

24-08-2009, 15:38
"The painting is on a very good level, but I'm not sure about the colour scheme. There is to much red. Try to add some more colours like gold, silver, browns, greys, black. "

i think that the colour scheme make the army unique. i see alot of standard chaos armies i thought i would try to achieve the tide of blood effect!

The boyz
24-08-2009, 15:46
Excellent work on that Chaos Knight, Leeoaks. The red looks very well painted.

24-08-2009, 18:49
quick sneak peak at my conversion.....i will use the rules for valkia for him....i still need to armour his shield arm and i have the knights daemon shield for him...

24-08-2009, 19:51
Where are those wings from?

24-08-2009, 20:23
an old DP model....do you like the model??

here aare dsome better pics

Elazar The Glorified
24-08-2009, 20:34
Looks like an awesome conversion. Very fitting for using Valkia's awesome rules. Good choice on the shield from the Knights its quite a lot like the one in the artwork for Valkia (I think the mounted lords one would have looked equally good). The old Daemon Prince's wings work really well, good to see something from those old minis getting used as I think that time hasn't been kind on them and they haven't aged as well as a lot of the chaos range.

25-08-2009, 02:09
like the painting superb for speed painting and painting in general in my book and before the griping of some people bout the pants just armor its chaos its red its how it is and should be my only minor and extremely minor thing is that its a bit clean for me based on chaos and this is a very very small concern nothing is wrong with your minis

25-08-2009, 11:55

Trust you are keeping well, havent seen you for a few days...

These guys are coming along leaps and bounds... the red... is as you have noted very red... and a big part of the models, however, I dont think that this is abad thing. They look truely superb.

Hope you are well

My name is Daniel and I am a wargamer

25-08-2009, 21:49

got a bit more done.

25-08-2009, 22:23
I really like it, just I thought Valkia was a woman...

25-08-2009, 23:10
that Valkia model is awesome great painting and i think your tide of red will look awesome

26-08-2009, 00:43
what body did you use for him>?

26-08-2009, 06:30
just the khorne lord....

Valkia is a lass however GW do very few. its just my version with that set of rules.

26-08-2009, 15:09
That conversion is simply looking great! And the painting is coming along well, I can see. *thumbs up*

26-08-2009, 20:18
nearly there i just have to get some more grass for the base and give him the once over the horns on the wings need completing but i am waiting for him to dry!

i also need a name for this model any ideas?

26-08-2009, 20:42
Well, I'll throw some random names (all fittingly OTT) out there just because it's fun and I'm bored :D

Carkathrax Bloodeater
Volathix of the Gore Storm
Exkeroth Fleshgrinder
Lord Skullcrusher

and so on... :)

Keep up the great work!

26-08-2009, 20:49
Hehe, well uhm, you could fiddle a bit with the word Einherjar, which is/was the norse word for the warriors slain in battle, and brought to Valhalla -by- the Valkyries.

Then again, Valkia is more of a parody or opposite of a Valkyrie, as she doesn't bring spirits of the slain to some afterlife, but rather does the slaying..

But, uhm, a bit of reading on wikipedia, revealed that a second name or title for the norse god Odin, is Valfr (guess one could rewrite it to Valfoethr, if you don't fancy old norse letters) meaning "Father of the slain".
Another name is Gangleri, meaning "The Wanderer".

I don't know, just some suggestions.

26-08-2009, 20:49
i am rubbish at names. thanks!

here are a few more shots!

26-08-2009, 20:53
thanks noeste. simply for the research and effort he shall be know as Valfoethr chosen of khorne.

26-08-2009, 20:55
It's looking really good, but from those new angles, and with a better view of the spear head, I get the oppinion that you should try to "sharpen it"; paint over some of the wash you've put on the spear head, so as to make it look used a bit frequently; I mean, doesn't Daemon Princes of Khorne stab at foes both to their right and to their left, all day long if they get the choice?
Apart from that, I have nothing to criticize.

Owh, and glad you liked that name *Smiles*

26-08-2009, 21:01
Just to add in, that correctly translated his name should be Valfadr, Valfadir or Valfader, in order from oldest to newest :) The etymology behind the name is Val = Vala, one type of ancient norse god, and fadr = (as you correctly pointed out) father. So his name means Father of the Vala.

Hope that clears it up a bit :)

26-08-2009, 21:06
Ancient Theology and great minis all in one thread in one afternoon! :D It's a great looking mini and worthy of a great name and Valfadir (my vote! :D) fits that bill nicely!

26-08-2009, 21:21
thanks all "Valfadir Chosen of khorne".....i like it!!! up next some more ogres and the dragon!

26-08-2009, 22:29
Wow, this is awesome stuff. Very fast and very good looking.

So, effectively, you are laying down a layer of mechrite red and then hitting it with some heavy GW washes? It looks great.

26-08-2009, 22:47
i do a bit of dry brushing first....helps to lighten the edges.

28-08-2009, 07:52
That is a sweet model :)
Really really nice conversion, and a great paintscheme. Where are all the parts from? Knight arms, weapon and shield; old daemon prince wings... dont know the rest though :)

28-08-2009, 12:08

Brilliant stuff mate. Especially for speed painting. Everything is great, and that dragon is inspired!

Cypher, the Emperor
28-08-2009, 22:52
What about Valkio?
Like, a masculine version of Valkia?

28-08-2009, 23:04
I love the horns on the dragon! You just need to chaosify (add like a big chaos symbol or something) and fill the gap inbetween the two chariot bits! great work otherwise

29-08-2009, 00:01
that valkia model you made looks awesome my good sir..
really really cool...
i might have to borrow some of those good ideas

29-08-2009, 01:00
Very cool stuff, I might steal the hydra conversion if I ever get around to making a dragon.

29-08-2009, 09:58
Awesome dragon :)
I need a bigger bitz box :(

29-08-2009, 12:45

Could we get any pictures from above and behind, just to get a better view of the Lord's platform?

01-09-2009, 20:30
Your Valfadir looks sweet, is that the half-demon head from the Khorne champ on jugger?

Dragon is coming along nicely too, keep it up!

02-09-2009, 17:09
Wow, you should get some tutorials up on your speed painting techingue!

02-09-2009, 17:14
You might want to reconsider the pose of the rider, to like, holding on for dear life!

04-09-2009, 16:09
ha the rider is so fat there is no need to hang on he is wedged in!!!

05-09-2009, 19:47
