What music do you guys listen to when you play your games?

Me and my compadres listen to some medecine flute while we play. Adds some irony. Soothing sounds of nature backed with a flute sweeping the blood ridden battlefield. At least they were calm when they died...

I have a few songs from some actual 40k games that I listen to, Dawn of War and Final Liberation among them, and I usually tune up Sabaton for an IG theme, or Turisas, Manowar and Amon Amarth when I play Space Wolves.

Nothing Stereotypical about it, the only other music genres that fit a game of war are Techno (TO SOME DEGREE) and Classical, along the lines of the LOTR soundtrack or something.

But a geniuine stringed shredder sounds way better than a Tuba or synth machine.

One of my local games stores (which is actually just as much a military/historical miniatures place as it is a 40K site) does play classical / bombastic military themes over the speaker systems most of the time. It gets the job done, especially when the Guard are on the table.

Ska, Drum 'n' Bass, Post Hardcore, Ambient Electronica, Power Metal, Soft Jazz, Classical, Emo, Indie, Funk, Folk, Grindcore and Deathcore and a little Country and Film Soundtracks

I listen to music when I play, similar music to what I listen to when I'm not playing.

When I play at other tables, I listen to the host's choice of music, and it is invariably some flavour of the week metal band that they are trying to "convert" me to.

When I was in my teens, it would invariably be Iron Maiden at the games table, because I was growing into a cliche

EDIT: Oh and 90's Gangsta Rap and Hardcore (the punk sort not the electronic sort, not such a fan of that when I'm sober)

Crunk is where it's at. No, seriously. It matches our sense of humour perfectly.

I listen to whatever that radio box thing seems to be playing at that given time.

When playing Warhammer, it is necessary for one to make homage to Bolt Thrower. The song "World Eater" is perfect when playing any Chaos force.

Dunno why, probs cos im biased but its only Drum and Bass for me,
Sometimes a bit of dubstep too,

Some of the proper heavy dark stuff is pretty good, espcially stuff by Spor and Evol Intent,

One thing man, and this is not any kind of flame, but how can you listen to growling singers like that? I've just never picked up on it much.

My friend and I usually have DVDs on in the background! :P

Sometimes though, depending on how the battle is going, I swear it should be Benny Hill music!

It would be the best use of the Lash of Submission ever. :D

Actually, for ork vs. ork games, this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrk_cEmNnPc) in a continuous loop.

With occasional breaks to play the Ghostbusters theme song.

I know the gamestore PLAYS music, but I tend to get "tunnel vision" during games. I suppose if I had my preference, some mellow electronica like Massive Attack (ironically misnamed) would be cool.

My local GW store always have heavy metal/hard rock coming from their speakers (and sometimes, if they're feeling nuttier than usual, Weird Al music or 'Barbie Girl'. XD)

Though I personally hate it (even though I listen to the majority of the songs they have) because songs with lyrics make all the conversations and game discussion much less audible.

While playing WFB/WOTR I listen to music from Lord of the Rings, and from the majority of the Total War games series (Rome, Medieval, and possibly Empire?).
Examples:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71yXg89h35E
The first one builds up the feel of escalating battle. The second one I found exhilarating played when the battle lines clash.

While playing WH40K I listen to mostly music from the battlefield series.

Especially with those sounds effects. It really gives you that sense of modern battlefield mayhem.

I still can't find myself listening to the music I normally listen to while playing Warhammer. Listening to Rammstein/Disturbed/Metallica/Iron Maiden/power metal while rolling to shoot with heavy bolters doesn't do it for me for some reason.

In Rotterdam they simply put on some (hard)rock. Way better than metal, if you ask me.

How about the Warhammer 40k: Chaos Gate soundtrack?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlRfPQP4uhA starts about a quarter to a third in. Strangely, none of the scenes are actually from that game though...

That sounds perfect for 40K actually (and it should, really :D )

In hindsight I think I enjoy the music I gave examples more because I play IG and Tau. Space Marine, Ork, etc will probably have a different flavor to them. But that's what the 'what race listen to what music' thread is for.

It's br00tal!

Strange as this may seem to some, I actually DON'T listen to music when I play. At all. Distracts me too much, I get to into the music and can't think about the game enough.
