View Full Version : Hellcannon base size?

Pretty obvious question for you guys, what size base should this beast be on? 50x50? 50x100? 100x100? Pi^2?

Thanks in advance!

I think it's 50x100 - same as a chariot base.

The Hell Cannon does not come with it's own base, and it seems a lot wider than the chariot base. I'd suggest simply counting it as having a 50 mm x 100 mm since this is in line with most other monster models of that size category.

This means that it should be able to engage 4 x 25 mm or 20 mm models or 3 x 40 mm or 50 mm models to the front.

Chaos Dwarfs are extra. :)

the latest french base guide (http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m2480001_feuille_ref_WFB_PU-Socles-Type.pdf) has a suggested size of 80x100 for the 'canon apocalypse' same as the bretonnian trebuchet. but they mention these are only suggestions, 50x100 should be fine if you don't have/want or can't find 80x100

Yeah, a smart move again... normal warmachines are fine w/o a base I suppose, but hellcanons actually fight in melee, so they need a base. Ah well. Some day, maybe, they'll figure that including base sizes and unit strenghts in the unit profiles might be, maybe (I know, I've said maybe already. Means I don't believe it for one second), a good idea. Too straightforward and practical, though, I assume.

Btw, there should be a sticky in this forum with the base chart PDF included. I wouldn't mind making a post with the unit names translation if that was done.

The Hellcannon model itself is really diffucult to even fit on a 50x100 mm base once the wheels/chains etc are attatched. I think mine will eventually be based on a 60x100 base.

I have just based mine, and all I can say to 60x100 is good luck! I think anything smaller than 75*100 won't really work once the chains etc. are attached as you say. If you want room for the skull piles and ot be able ot make it a mini diorama with the crew as well then it will need to be longer. Mine has ended up being cut from a modular movement tray and is 100x150 with space for the crew.

According to the BRB a monster should go on a 50x50 base. So i guess the hellcannon is supposed to mounted with the barrel in the ground ;)

Nice necroposting Azethel. According to the ETC site, the Hellcannon should be mounted on a 80x100 base which I personally think is pretty fair. I think this is the best reference since GW have yet to come up with a size for the damn thing. I made mine 100x120 to fit crew and skull piles, but I make sure to inform my opponent how large the base actually is targeting and melee purposes.

What are the dimensions of the thing off the base? (excluding chains and piles of skulls).

The rulebook itself mentions monsters with no base, so how is that usually run?

The cannon is roughly 70x90

I found a top down pic of it online and then just copy&pasted a crew member next to it to give an idea of scale.

This should hopefully show that it's minimum dimentions are about 60mm wide and 80mm deep as each crew is on a 20mm square base.

So that would be the minimum size I'de allow for a based hellcannon.

I ended up mounting mine on 100x100, which seemed to be the best size as far as getting the cannon, chains, and skulls onto the base comfortably.
