as my title says can a wizard march and still cast magic spells?
i say this because my butchers in my ogre kingdoms army would like to march at full speed and still buff and tuff about them.

thanks!

That's an excellent question...

yes, wizards can march and cast...

yet archers can't march and fire their bows... arcane gestures and horribly precise incantations yes / tugging at a length of taut line no...

strange but true :p

The "no marching and shooting " rule only applies to missile weapons. Mages don't use missile weapons so they can both march and cast. I think breath weapons can be used on the march as well.

It's easier to point a finger than place the crossbow's foothold under your boot and do a full body stretch, lift, aim and fire.

Crossbows can't move and shoot, so they're not exactly under discussion.

Wizards can always cast spells unless one of the following applies:

> They are fleeing
> They have failed a stupidity test

Note, they must have the stupidity rule. If they joined a stupid unit and they themselves are not stupid, they may still cast spells if the unit fails their stupidity test.

Necromancy Black, you missed some.

3) They are dead.
4) They've been stuffed down a Giant's trousers.

Yet some of the most amusing images come from thinking about number four.

I thought about saying those but they were both a bit too obvious :p

That was almost english T10. Methinks you spend to much time with your orks.

As EvC once said and Necromancy Black sig'd, read your damn rulebook.

3) They are dead.

Doesn't really stop you casting spells if you are a vampire, liche priest or Nagash, though.

As for stuffing the wizards down into giant's pants, I think this is only exciting if you are the giant in question - for the poor wizard, other words are needed to describe the experience.

As regards to Giants, wizards and pants, that's their private life.

I know I wouldnt dispute this in a game but..could you make the argument that if my wizard is riding a stupid mount and is stupid that turn..can the wizard cast spells since the mount that is actually stupid and not the caster or does that just fall under the mount psychology auto passing that ability to rider..

Breathing has been allowed for big flying lizards.

Breath wepons cna march and shoot. This has always been the case.

Animosity is a stupid rule, so it can be classified as stupidity :p

> They have failed a stupidity test

Note, they must have the stupidity rule. If they joined a stupid unit and they themselves are not stupid, they may still cast spells if the unit fails their stupidity test.

If they're on a stupid mount and they fail, they can't cast though.

Necromancy Black
24-07-2009, 05:58
That's because stupidity is shared between rider and mount, like stubborn, hated and frenzy.

Condottiere
24-07-2009, 07:43
If there'd just be more sharing, the warhammer world would get along without all this conflict.

What irritates me is when a dragon picks up on his rider's xenophobia.

Wasn't allowed in 6th edition. It was one of those stealth changes when 7th editon rolled on.

Just wait until the new, more nature-friendly wood elf army book comes out to bring peace to the cruel world, with suitable special rules such as:

- Eternal Love
- Power to the Flower People
- Carebear Stare

Condottiere

I think that requires more cultivation of their special herbs, harvested from secret glens deep within the forest.

Some spells require lots of concentration, but I guess that would overcomplicate the system to require them to stay put while they're doing it.

As both a trained biathlete and sorcerer, let me assure you that it takes much more training to go fast and shoot accurately than it does to zing off a few fireballs while on the move.
