Well, I figured since I did a dwarf... I should do a gobbo. Anyway, these are the really cheesy (but cheap) models that come with the Battle for Skull Pass set. Lets see if we can at least make them look decent...

Up first, the skin. Games Workshop Dark Angels Green, Snot Green, Goblin Green, and Scorpion Green.

Dark Angels Green base coat.

Interesting robes... any reason why you're going for bronw rather than black?

Ok, onto the black robes.

Need Reaper Master Series Dragon Black and Pure White.

Base coat is black, but you might need to touch it up with a bit of dragon black (no picture).

Next up, roughly 5 parts Black to 1 part White.

http://www.reapermini.com/forum/uploads/monthly_08_2009/post-2668-1249438411_thumb.jpg

Now just add another drop of white to the mix.

http://www.reapermini.com/forum/uploads/monthly_08_2009/post-2668-1249438421_thumb.jpg

And another drop.

http://www.reapermini.com/forum/uploads/monthly_08_2009/post-2668-1249438430_thumb.jpg
And on this one it is about two drops...

http://www.reapermini.com/forum/uploads/monthly_08_2009/post-2668-1249438441_thumb.jpg

Easy enough.

Crube: That is the colors I have used for the rest of my night goblin army.

The Dean: Yes. I have painted about 60 of them like this already.

I like the rust effect on the metal there... Nice and simple too - I think I may have a go at it when I do my Ogres...

Thanks

That's an excellent paint job, but I'm still hung up on the fact that you're going to have to do a couple units like that. Other than that, I'd love to see how you'd paint up an orc boy

Good job on the goblin, again

hey,
I'm pretty new to this forum, but I had a question about your painting style,
like the robe, u basecoated it etc, and then you start highlighting with a mix of white & black, but how do u highlight? do u just 'draw' the lines with your brush on the places that need to be highlighted, or do u add water? or do a dry brush? I've seen this style alot, but I haven't figured it out at all x_x
Can u maybe link me to a descent tutorial for it?

thanks

FLESHGRINDER: I may start doing orcs once I get the gobbos up to about 3000 points or so.

ebichu: There are a few different techniques to painting, but I like to do what is called layering. This is simply starting from a dark color and working to a light color. For instance, with the robes, I start with a black base, then cover that with walnut brown (a very dark brown). From here I start working up each successive layer of lighter color until I am satisfied with the final highlight. To do this, your paint has got to be the right water/paint consistency. This is important so that the edges of each successful layer sort of blend to the previous layer. I would have to say that practice is the only way to really be able to tell what a good consistency is... but a good rule of thumb is: If you dip your brush into the paint run the brush of a dry area. If the paint pools into separate pools, then it is too much water. If it leave a nice dark streak, not enough. You want it to have a milky appearance. Also, once you get the right consistency, you may have to do a quick swipe of the brush over your finger or a napkin to get a little excess water out.

Hope this all helps at least a little.
