View Full Version : My whatever i get my hands on blog

07-08-2009, 22:34

After being a member for a long time here and never posting anything i decided to sign up for the Tale of 40K painters.
I will be painting an Eldar army for that, but along the way i will be painting more then just that.

So its time to start my own blog.
First i want to show some of my previous work.
So to start with my Shaggot and Beastlord from my beastmen army.

08-08-2009, 15:56
They look awesome! I like the muted earthy tones on the Shaggoth, usually you see them painted up in loud, gaudy colors. The Beastlord looks cool, too- where is that model from? Seriously good painting!
You should post pictures of your other Beastmen when you have the opportunity! There aren't nearly enough of them around here.
I don't know if you are looking for any criticisms, but I think a wash or two would look great over the white armored bits on both of them, especially the chainmail on the Beastlord. It would add just a bit more definition.

Adeptus Mechanicus
08-08-2009, 16:09
Eww, I don't even want to think about what that Beastlord will do to that poor damsel in distress... uh-oh, too late! *snickers* Anyway, awesome painting. The skinn of the Shaggoth is wonderfull and I must say you've got a great taste for color combination.

08-08-2009, 17:23
Hey you guys,

Thanks for the nice comments.
As for changing stuff in this army i was not really planning on it, if i am honest, i don't even like the paintjob anymore.
Finished this army about 1,5 year ago and got me two best army nominations on the Grand Tournament.
Just recently decided to start painting a troll unit, of wich i will take some wip pictures this comming week, need them for a tournament.
Will post some more pictures this evening.

@ 8bitmummies, the Beastlord comes from the Mordheim Beastmen Warband
And thanks for the tips, those are always welcome offcourse.

08-08-2009, 17:26
Here is my unit of dragonogres.

08-08-2009, 17:27
And my deamonettes (these once where part of my beastmen army)

08-08-2009, 20:55
Oh, nice stuff.

08-08-2009, 21:41
And some more pictures.
Terminator has been painted en couple of years ago, but still like it.

09-08-2009, 11:49
This is my Typhus, painted it a couple of weeks ago

13-08-2009, 09:15
My WIP trolls, they are kind of a speeded up paintjob, need them quickly for a tournament, and do not want to spend to much time on them.

Comments and tips are welcome as always :D

13-08-2009, 11:21
I admire your work! The tones, the details, the highlights, everything!

13-08-2009, 19:47
I realy like the stone troll colors on the chaos trolls.

I'm curious as to how they turn out.

The Laughing God
13-08-2009, 20:55
Some sweet stuff in here.

That shaggot look amazing, how did you do its skin?

22-08-2009, 19:00
Here are the first pictures of my Eldar army.

First the testmodel guardian, and after that WIP Striking Scorpions.
Just finished the Guardians for this month, so the Striking Scorpions are up for September (To40KP).

And the WIP Striking Scorpions, sorry for the dark picture.

22-08-2009, 19:03
Very nice stuff here... Care to share how you did the yellow on those guardians, it's great. Not too bright...

22-08-2009, 20:28
The yellow has been painted as follows:

Basecoat Chaos Black
Then i painted 2 - 3 layers thinned down Tausept Ochre on them, just till it covers up the black.
After that i gave the models a Dark Flesh wash.
Then mixing Iyanden Darksun and Golden Yellow, so that the model got a more yellow tone, after that i highlighted the model using mixtures of Golden Yellow and Skull White, offcourse by adding more White per layer.

And a better picture of the Scorpions:

The boyz
22-08-2009, 21:38
Theirs some wonderful bits and pieces in this thread Wizard. I really like the paint job on Typhus. And the yellow on the Eldar Guardian looks very nice too. Look forward to some more updates!

23-08-2009, 18:17
That guardian is very very nice, don't suppose a wraithlord is going to follow in his footsteps at some point?

24-08-2009, 12:49
Thanks for the comments you guys :D.

@ Eyeolas:Actually, yes there is at least going to follow 1 Wraithlord, maybe 2, not quite sure yet.
Since i paint this army for the tale of 40K painters i stick to my first idea for now, but it really goes much faster then i expected so probably i will add some more stuff.
This is what i am aiming for at the moment:
10 Dire Avengers
10 Guardians (with starcannon)
6 Pathfinders
3 Dark Reapers
1 Wraitlord
6 Howling Banshees
6 Striking Scorpions
6 Fire Dragons
6 Swooping Hawks
6 Warpspiders
and 3 Shining Spears

So i have to do some work before i will add more, but the Wraithlord will be painted pretty soon, the plan is to finish te Scorpions and then start working on the Wraithlord.

29-08-2009, 15:56
I'm moving this thread to the new Random Project Logs Forum.

01-09-2009, 11:32
Here are the Guardians (6) that i painted for the tale of 40K painters this month.

12-09-2009, 11:15
Here some WIP pictures of the fire dragons.

16-09-2009, 10:58
Little update on the fire dragons.

The yellow is not finished yet, needs a couple more layers.

25-09-2009, 12:09
Some WIP pics of Yriel and the Dark Reapers, all 5 Dark Reapers are at the same stage.

25-09-2009, 15:36
I like the codex colors on the fire dragon.
Can't wait to see how the Reapers turn out.

Keep it up!

03-10-2009, 10:28
Striking Scorpions

Fire Dragons

03-10-2009, 11:25
I really like this thread!
So far each and every model you show has bold colours... I fear bold colours, I am no good at them. I always take drab, dark, natural colours, but you do them perfectly. Very nice.

However, if I need to pick one thing I dislike, it's the basing on your daemonettes. The "lava/magic" flowy stuff on the base just doesn't look very good.

But other than that, top job! An army shot of your Eldar would be greatly appreciated, because they look sick! And your Typhus, ooh, a step by step on your choice of colours would be very nice.

Keep up!

03-10-2009, 21:05
@ Daniel36

Thanks for the comments and Feedback.

I will take some pictures of the eldar i have finished so far this week, its only 3 units so far, so not much to see for now, as it is my To40K painters army for this year, although i plan on finishing it a bit earlier than July next year, but that will not be a problem.

The colours on Typhus, can not remember them exactly.
For the green i took Catachan Green, mixing in Codex en Fortress Grey for highlights.
Helmet think something like Bestial Brown -> Bubonic Brown -> Bleached Bone
Red, Mixture of Scorched Brown and Reds, mixing in Dwarf and Elf Flesh to achieve the highlights.

The daemonette's are pretty old actually, painted them in 2007 for my Beastmen army, i could only use them once unfortunatly on a tournament (Dutch WH GT 2008) after that they could not be used any more in the army.
Since i am not planning on a WHFB Daemon army, i don't want to spend time on them for now, but i totaly agree with you on the bases.

12-11-2009, 16:35
cool stuff. really liked that demons. i see u have one vampire aristocrat, got anything else of Vampire Counts?

12-11-2009, 16:50
The stuff in this log is made of pure win!

14-11-2009, 11:16
Thnz again for the comments :D, have not posted in a while because my camera broke down, if things go well will post new pictures pretty soon.

@ Spar666rawk

Had to search on my computer a bit, but found a few pictures of some ghouls that i painted for the pre release when the book came out.
I once painted a Varghulf, but no pics of that, it was a present to a friend of mine.

So here are the Ghouls

14-11-2009, 15:20
Ghouls on fire?! Poor them. Looking good.

15-11-2009, 00:51
wizzard, your work is amazing. I'm envious of your skills with a brush. I'll be watching this one keenly!

The crispness of the colours on the Fire Dragons is lovely.

Keep it up :D

02-12-2009, 12:07
Finally got my camera back, and repaired :D, so can post some new pictures now.

My Eldar army is realy taking shape now, so can already start looking at a next project/army.

Wraitlord, Yriel en Dark Reapers in this post:

02-12-2009, 12:10
And now, Farseer, Dire Avengers and Howling Banshees

C&C is welcome as always.

03-12-2009, 08:12
I am very impressed with you Eldar Army - topic subscirbed :-)

03-12-2009, 12:53
I said it before but will say it again. You are a MASTER of bold colours.

Now, I've seen quite a few impressive painters on Warseer, but I think you are my favourite when it comes to bright models.

I kind of forgotten I had posted a reply before, so I was already thinking of what to say while skimming through your log, but I saw I already said everything I wanted to say a while ago.

Thanks again for the Typhus paint tips. I used Rotting Flesh with Catachan Green for a similar effect, but I like yours better.

Also, your Shaagoth is very inspirational, as I am going to paint it up for a friend soon.

Last but not least, those Eldar swords, the bright orange ones... MY GOODNESS!!! Talk about eye catching!

And you say you're from Holland? Where you from exactly?

03-12-2009, 14:53
just looked through this log and loved everything i have seen i will be watching this and lookoing forward to seeing what comes next loving Yriel the most

04-12-2009, 13:41
Great models. How do you do your Yellow?

08-12-2009, 23:32
Well you guys, thnx for all the nice comments.

I just finished my warlock, just one, because there is only 1 cool warlock in my opinion.
Will post some pictures very soon.

Currently am working on my 12 Warpspiders, will post some WIP pics of these to.

Last week i picked up my next project, a lizardmen Bloodbowl team, i'm kinda hooked up to it since i got it for my xbox so now its time to paint and convert a team, am going to use normal models (skinks, temple guards and a kroxigor offcourse).

@ Daniel 36:

You are welcome for the tips, always happy to explain a bit about my models.
You will find that the Shaggot is a treat to paint, its a briljant model.

I am from 's-Hertogenbosch, noticed you are Dutch to, so where are you from?

@ Baggers:
The Yellow is painted as follows:
Started with a couple of thinned down layers of tausept ochre over a Chaos black undercoat.
After that a good wash of Dark Flesh.
Then the layering and highlighting starts with Iyanden Darksun.
This mixed up with Golden Yellow, slowely adding Golden Yellow to the mix.
Then Golden Yellow mixed up with Skull White, adding Skull White untill there is about 2 parts of Skull White in the mix against 1 part of Golden Yellow.

Cheers Wizzard

09-12-2009, 14:09
We're not in the same area, I'm afraid. I'm from around Alkmaar. It would've been cool to battle your Eldar though. I have a fairly extensive Imperial Guard army. Not nearly as nicely painted as your stuff, but in my defence, it IS Imperial Guard... You know... Too many models.

New question: How did you do the blues? It's a very soothing kind of blue. It doesn't look like the eye-bleeding Ultramarines Blue. I'm suspecting you mixed some colours, but I'm just curious.

10-12-2009, 15:00
Well, the problem of the distance isn't a really big one, already have a friend of mine who would like to join me on a trip to Alkmaar, so i think that problem has just been solved.
Now we have to find a bit of time to do the trip, is there a specific day or evening you play in a club, woul be nice to visit then.

Well, i totally get what you mean with the Guard stuff, i myself kinda like infantry only armies, next to that i like horde armies, so usually it takes me some time to finish an army, the 75 models in my eldar army are quite a relief.
So your excuse is a very good one, but have to say, have seen a lot Guard armies that should not even stand in the shadow of you army, and your Nurgle Landraider is a really nice one.

The blue is build up from black and dark blue tones.
Usually i paint al colours starting very dark, after a basecoat i wash it down to create te shading, and then repaint the first colour again.
Then i start layering up.
Both blues have been build up from Regal Blue.
After that washing with a Regal Blue / Chaos Black mix.
Mixing in Ultramarine Blue, Bleached Bone and Skull White in the Regal Blue for highlighting.

If you want i can sent you the complete tutorial on how i did them, just let me know.

10-12-2009, 18:01
was just looking through your log and love everything i saw both eldar schemes are fantastic the freehand on those tank is awesome i wish i could do that keep up the good work i will be watching

10-12-2009, 23:06

Why didn't you told me off your blog before?:wtf:

Cool project you have going on here, I should trash you're army on the battlefield again sometime soon :p

11-12-2009, 12:39
Hey you guys,

Thnx again for all the nice words.
Makes keeping up with this much easier.

@ Johan40K, well bring it :D.

Now some pictures of my trolls (which i finished a while ago) and another project for a local paint competition.
1 picture isn't that good, camera focussed wrong, but i promise will make some more soon.

couple of hours later

11-12-2009, 12:42
And as promised, Warlock and a WIP Warp Spider.
All 12 Warpsipers are at the same stage, but i don't see the difference in showing 1 or 12.
So for now, just 1.

As always C&C is more than welcome.

11-12-2009, 13:04
The warlock is fantastic the yellow is one of the best i have ever seen. The warp spider is looking good can't wait to see the finished models.

14-12-2009, 16:02
Heya, just wanted to let you know. I did go to a club often, in Wormerveer, near Zaandam. Forum link is in my sig. I don't go there often anymore though, for several reasons. But still, if you're looking for new opponents, that is very much the place to go to!

I myself don't really have much time to do any battling, though I would've loved to battle you. It's just that I can't really plan anything right now. But that's alright.

So, if you feel like it, Friday night there's a club in Wormerveer. Let me know if you're interested.

EDIT: Oh, and thanks for the tips and compliments! :)

14-01-2010, 23:05
Well, have had a busy month, so it took some time to get some new pictures.
But this week i finnished 7 out of 12 warpspiders.

Last few days i picked up on my Inquisition army again, was working on that before i started the eldar, manage to paint 2 henchmen and 2 storm troopers, pictures will come soon.

For now, a couple of warpspiders.

17-01-2010, 12:13
It's good to some more of your work!

Any clues as to what we can expect after the spiders and henchmen?

17-01-2010, 13:36
Your Eldar are comming along nicely. Think you cn play a batlle with them any time soon?

17-01-2010, 14:18
Your eldar are looking great!
I've got some Warp Spiders kickin around somewhere, you make me want to find them and finish em off!
Your tale army must be really well along now, what's next for it?

Looking forward to seeing your other projects too!

18-01-2010, 20:32
@ Radium, well for sure i will keep going on with my eldar, just found a (IMO) cool way to convert my Shining Spear exarch to make him wysiwyg.
The jetbikes are undercoated now, so soon they will get some more atention.
Besides today i decided it was time to start painting on my second unit of sisters of battle and continued on the 5 remaining Warp Spiders.
Still am thinking of adding a second Wraithlord to my force, but with the upcomming Beastmen release, well, it will depend :D.
Also just placed an order for some really cool single models, so ... i'll keep myself busy :D.

@ Spekkiebig, sure, any time, i will let you know when i will be in the store, or maybe sometime on a saturday?

@ boymilla, you are right, it is getting to its end, just need to do a few units and its done.
For the tale i will enter my Pathfinders and the remaining Warpsiders next month.
Hopefully after that the Shining Spears.
About the Warpspiders, i honestly got bored with them after a while, maybe because i have 12, but its a lot of work, and the models aren't that great *sigh*

16-03-2011, 22:42
Well, after not painting for nearly a year, (ragequit because of GW's rulechanges on both tyranids and Beastmen, could throw away 2 entire armies in 3 weeks), i picked up a brush again this week.

Finished my 1st model, not entirely happy but it will do for now.
Already working on more.

http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/200819_194655780565511_100000632711482_567822_7615 391_n.jpg

17-03-2011, 11:22
What's not to like about this model? I think it looks amazing. I am really envious of the way you paint. Your colour transitions are so incredibly smooth!

Did you really throw away two armies?

17-03-2011, 12:35
It's looking great.

17-03-2011, 12:58
Nice to see you picking up the brush again Wizzard!
I just knew you'd do so in time.
The Ethereal looks great. You haven't lost your skills even after the long break you yook.
Keep up happy painting!

17-03-2011, 14:12
@ Daniel36, not realy thrown them away, but they are as usefull in a dumpster as on the table, read not, Tyranids are just another space marine army now, only difference is, they have 6 limbs.
Beastmen, pff, after destroying my deamons in the army, now the army needs an even bigger revamp, ungors to smaller bases, gors got rank and file, dragon ogre's and shaggy out of book, so that kept me with like 25 useable models left, as you will understand it realy pissed me of BIG TIME.

@ Spekkiebig, actually. its your fault, since i left sunday at your place all i am willing to do is paint, paint and paint hehe.

Also, new picture, crappy one, taken with phone, and heavy WIP.

http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/199963_195350533829369_100000632711482_571024_5229 456_n.jpg

17-03-2011, 15:04
Really great stuff here!

I like you clean way of painting, the models really work!

Looking forward to seeing more!

17-03-2011, 15:52
Beastmen, pff, after destroying my deamons in the army, now the army needs an even bigger revamp, ungors to smaller bases, gors got rank and file, dragon ogre's and shaggy out of book, so that kept me with like 25 useable models left, as you will understand it realy pissed me of BIG TIME.

A lot of people use counts-as here. Dragon Ogres can use razorgor rules, shaggoth=ghorgon, trolls and ogres = minotaurs and so on. I rebased 25 ungors, but that didn't take that long. Personally I'm happy since I'm more interested in the infantry than in the big monsters, if you're the other way around then I understand if you complain. (Edit: Not saying that you don't have a right to complain, there were some massive changes to the army)

18-03-2011, 20:26
I never have liked the idea of using models in my armies that can be taken as other models in other armies, converting is ok, and using cooler models also, but for example, the scyla's i used for my dragon ogre's, it would feel wrong to me to use them now as Razorgors.
Don't get me wrong, the being pissed off reaction is not money based, its more in the huge amount of time is spended to finish an army and got to play not so many battles with it way.

As for now, i am way to happy that i am actually painting again, and will focus on that, and maybe next year in a new 40K release, with rules for above 3 years (hopefully) i might actually start a little army again.
But for now, it will be just painting mini's at a random pick.

20-03-2011, 19:56
Well, another picture of perdita, still enough to do on the mini, but she is getting there. Think my camera is about to die on me, so might start to look for a new one, c&c is welcome as always.

http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/200068_196137530417336_100000632711482_575245_3892 697_n.jpg

21-03-2011, 06:26
Nice painting all round, and have to echo the praise for how you paint the yellow on your eldar.

22-03-2011, 15:42
Well, some more work put into Perdita, and for now i'm done with the mini, might actually change some stuff later on, but want to paint another mini now.

http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/196269_196564823707940_100000632711482_579304_8133 055_n.jpg

22-03-2011, 17:36
Good to see you're back and painting again! I like the look of your Perdita, it's a very nice showcase of your style.

Now hurry up and paint some more :p!

22-03-2011, 18:19
Beautiful painting - and especially so on the Eldar.

23-03-2011, 07:56
@ Spekkiebig, actually. its your fault, since i left sunday at your place all i am willing to do is paint, paint and paint hehe.

At your service!

Perdita looks great. What manufacter is the model from?

23-03-2011, 11:31
Thank you for the nice words again.

@ Radium, already started on some Mandrakes, will try to make some pictures later today.

@ Spekkiebig, the model is from wyrd miniatures.

03-04-2011, 20:27
Well, have been painting a bit on the mandrakes and decided i would give it a go to at least try and paint a small army, choice is Tyranids and came up with a casual 500 pts army of wich i heavily doubt it will ever be effective, but i could not care less.

Took me some tries to get the starting colour the way i wanted it, but here is a WIP picture of a gaunt.

C&C is welcome as always.

http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/207104_199404840090605_100000632711482_596903_4554 521_n.jpg

03-04-2011, 23:56
That is a nice skin color, what colors did you use? Very inspirational plog you got here. Are you also attending the botc this year?

04-04-2011, 13:51
Painted it with a mixture of Graveyard Earth/Dwarf Flesh after that using skin tones to get the highlights, and used a few washes and glazes in different colours.

No, not going to BOTC, don't want to play large tournaments any more, did a few GT's and have been judge for a long time on both GT's and BotC, and well, the general way people play, i don't find stimulating, actually, it ruins my fun in the game, so i play with a few friends and just want to paint some stuff.

05-04-2011, 06:53
Nice start one the Gaunt Wizzard. Once finished, do you want to play a game against a largely ineffectieve 500pt Eldar force? I'm getting a bit fed up with the powerplay too. (At least until the next GT!)

05-04-2011, 19:27
@ Spekkiebig, well, when its finished, hehe, that will take some time i guess, but if you want to play a fail 500 pts game, i could always take some SoB or Eldar.
It will be alright, just let me know.

12-04-2011, 13:43
An update on the termagaunt, have been working on some more Nid models, but wanted to get some carapace done on one, to see the effect.
I am not completely satisfied yet, so will have some work done on the critter later today, and try and get a start on the carapace of the other 4.

C&C is welcome as always.

http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/215862_201285579902531_100000632711482_608208_6020 935_n.jpg

http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/215862_201285579902531_100000632711482_608208_6020 935_n.jpg

I really like the color scheme on this one. What about it that you don't like?

13-04-2011, 11:05
I am happy with the color scheme, i just want to let the colors run over a bit more smooth on the carapace, so it will come down to a few glazes, not much work, but it has to be done.

Progress on the other 4 is good, their carapace is a few layers away from the first gaunt, so when they are at the same stage i will start cleaning up on them.

13-04-2011, 12:09
Looking good so far.
Any idea what you'll be painting for the 500 points (and beyond, you know you can't stop it!) list?

13-04-2011, 17:11
Haha, Spekkiebig, yes i have, at least for 500 pts.

It is going to be:

1 Tyranid Prime
1 Lictor
1 Zoanthrope
3 Warriors
10 Termagaunts
10 Hormagaunts
10 Gargoyles

When all of that is finished i will see if there will be more and what that would be, only thing i know already is, it will be an army without any 60mm or bigger bases, so no MC and stuff.
After discussion the failure in the codex if you want this type of army, i decided to play with 6 elites and no heavy's to still have fun with the army and keep it playable.

But that all is wishfull thinking at the moment ofcourse.

15-04-2011, 00:44
I like the termagaunt, good choice of colors. Too bad we'll not bump into each other on botc, you're not a judge this year. Maybe sometime in de Dobbelsteen then:)

15-04-2011, 20:11
In the mean time, the gaunts have been going forward a bit, but am painting the Sphinx thingie for the TK release for the dobbelsteen, so its all a bit VERY SLOW atm.
If i have time, i will drop by at the BotC, but there is no chance in participating or judging any big tournaments any time soon for me.
Not playing any games of wh(40K) for a year seriously drops you down on the rules i am certain off, lol.

Besides i don't really agree on the way GW is going, but well, that is not something to discuss here.

If everything goes as it should be, tomorrow my nem camera will arrive, so i can make some new pics.

15-04-2011, 20:34
That's going to be an impressive army! I have to agree with you on GW and the course they seem to be heading, but that's neither here nor there.

Can't wait to see some more of the nids, and I'd love to see what you did with the Mandrake as I'm slowly painting my own DE army right now ;). Finally an army I can play just for fun!

Well, have finished the first model yesterday, hopefully will finish 3 more today, the gargoyle i'm working on will take some more time, have not decided the way to go on the wings yet.

Hope you guys like it.

Nice! I like the fleshy look!

18-04-2011, 12:07
Don't like the red claws and stuff. With this natural colourscheme i'd prefer a bone colour on them (but that would be a bit boring i guess). On the gargoyle wings; paint them the same as the skin but only with lighter highlights.

20-04-2011, 21:05
@ Radium, wel the Mandrakes, kinda got to an halt, hehe, got to busy with the Nids, probably when i need a break from the nids, i will paint some of them.
For now all i've done is the hair, hehe, so not much so far.

@ Daniel, ty once again :D

@ Spekkiebig, the red is on there for a good reason, first of all i absolutely did not want to paint them bone, second of all, since nids get closest to just random bugs, bugs usually use a bright and shiny color to represent danger, look at a wasp, or other nasty creatures, so in the natural color, that was chosen for that reason.
Non the less, everyone is allowed there own taste, so nog point in argueing over that.

Last few days i have been painting the other 3 gaunts and started work on my Zoanthrope, the skin color in the Zoanthrope is still WIP, although in the mean time its done and i am already working on the caracpace.

So some more pics:

Awesome Tyranids. You make them look cool.

03-05-2011, 15:46
Since it has been a while, not my fault btw, hehe, first a pic of the nids, and how they are coming along.
I am probably going to glaze the wings a time or 2 later on, atm can not be bothered with it tbh.

And now some pics for my Malifaux progress on Rasputina and her crew (still WIP):

And the bases (still WIP):

love your nids, especialy the bases wel worth the work I can tel you!

04-05-2011, 02:59
Very nice models, I especially like the Eldar, the yellow is very well done (Iyandan Darksun and Devlan Mud?). It makes me want to paint another Eldar army. The tyranids look nice too, but good luck ever getting them done ^_^ Looking forward to te Maulifaux stuff too.

04-05-2011, 06:47
The Gargoyle and Zoanthrope came out great! And I must say the Ice Gremlins are looking very nice as well. Only downside is I don't particularly like GW's snow flock as it just looks like white grass. Still: great painting all around.

04-05-2011, 18:17
Thanks for the nice words again guys,

@ Lazuli, the yellow is a base of Tausept Ochre over Chaos black, then washed with Dark Flesh, i bassically try to avoid using the washes a lot, since the shine a lot, and i really don't like that, i mainly use washed thinned down to glaze little colour effects in on area's where i just want a bit more.
Somewhere in this blog is a full guide how i did the yellow, just to lazy to look it up atm.
This is if i am not mistaking ofc.

@ Radium, well you are right on that snow issue, i want to try and stick on several layers of it and then when the glue for the last layer is dry try and splash some thinned down hobby glue on it, that way it will all nicely stack together and hopefully give a better snowy feel, if it doesn't work, i'll feel like a retard since i have snow in paste form also somewhere around lol.

For the last months i have been working on some armies, but now its time for a random mini again.

I am not at all happy with the skin so far, next to that the cast apears to be more than crap, so i am going to strip it, fill it and start over again.

26-01-2012, 19:48
This Dwarf i just started on today, it is for a friend of mine, hoping to get it done somewhere next week, so i can start the second one as well.

27-01-2012, 13:44
Well, time for a update, got some more work done on this guy.
I am making a lot of pictures so the owner of the mini can keep track of the progress and tell me what he wants me to do/change.

Have fun:

30-01-2012, 20:26
Well, a little progress on the dwarf over the weekend, got the boots, scales and legarmour thingies doen.

01-02-2012, 14:51
A bit of progress again on the dwarf, not so extremely large pictures this time :D

You've got great painting skills!

Love the nids you've painted. I've always been a fan of the more flesh-colored nids. Will you be painting more of those?

05-02-2012, 18:19
@Juicytomatoes, most likely i will not produce more of them, this due to 2 reasons, first of all i feel that tyranids are in this codex nothing more then space marines that look weird, the whole idea of a scuttling horde that comes to you to tear off the limbs of the enemy is gone imo, unless you wish to play with genestealers only, and that is nog really my idea of a cool nid army.
Next to that, 40K in general is a huge problem, it is such a boring game atm, scratching my ass requires more tactical thinking then 40K, so i'd rather go and play with my lego (which i do not own actually) or go and play WHFB, what explains me building 2 fantasy armies atm.

14-02-2012, 18:43
Well, today i finally had some good time to paint again, so i decided to finish up the first dwarf and also put the last bits of paint on my firebelly (ogre blog)

I have already started assembling the second dwarf, so i am hoping to get the first paint on it around thursday/friday.

Hope you guys like it, there is no base due to the fact, i did not get a base with it, and i know it is supposed to end up on a senic base.:

Ah, yes I would be severely disappointed too, if nids were not the scuttling horde that it is made out to be. I'm not too familiar with nids though (played against them but never with them). How is it that they play like space marines?

Next to that, 40K in general is a huge problem, it is such a boring game atm, scratching my ass requires more tactical thinking then 40K, so i'd rather go and play with my lego (which i do not own actually) or go and play WHFB, what explains me building 2 fantasy armies atm.
I used to think this way for the longest time too, until my gaming buddy suggested trying out a new terrain idea, and then suddenly it became really fun! Basically, we made terrain that had several levels with limited places where you could move up to them. The terrain blocked LOS and movement, making the whole game a lot more thinky, a lot more fun! The next time I play a game, I'll try to do a batrep to show and tell. Hopefully, it might help to find the fun back in 40k again.

I do agree that playing 40k on a table with terrain laid out like a whfb game is very very boring and frustrating, so I know how you feel.

18-03-2012, 10:11
You bring up some good solutions actually, might try to convince some people to try that once :-D
As for Tyranids becomming Space Marines, well, i feel every army in 40K gets turned into space marines, only thing, one army has 6 limbs, other one just a 5+ armour save.
The armies don't give a unique feel anymore like they used to do (that is just my opinion obviously)

As for the mini's i still think nids are among the best GW ever produced, i like how they look a lot, so could not restrain myself and ordered me a Tervigon which will be on my paintstation pretty soon i guess.

Comming to painting, i got my friends second dwarf done as well, just have been slacking with the picture taking tbh.
And also have a new WIP project going on.

And my new mini.

A few quick updates on the marine, so far he has been a lot of fun to paint.

Those dwarves are looking real solid!

17-04-2012, 21:59
@Jormi_Boced, ty :D

Well, a few more pictures on the marine:

And recently i started working on a Tervigon, its still in the real early stages, hope you like it.:
