View Full Version : Faviourite Imperial Guard Character

In concert with the other "Faviourite Imperial Guard xxx" thread, I decided it'd be interesting to see what characters people seem to favour. I know that these threads are very common, but I wondered if anyone liked Macharius and Creed as much as me :D

Seeing as I only know the more well known characters, I put the name of worlds that a famous regiment orginates from so that anyone who does know a character can say so.

I like Creed for the fluff as well as his rules. Being one of the youngest to ever gain his rank and title, makes him a very interesting charcter for fluff. His command radius of 24" and allowing 4 orders a turn is great for issuing orders. Hook him up with Kell, and units get to use Creeds leadership when testing for orders. Very hard to fail a test when mixed with vox casters.

Id haft to say Creed Followed bye Al'Raheam and Chenkov..

At the same time, i dont use any of the new IG characters due to they cost to many points to fit into my list style.

Bastonne man, Sergeant Bastonne. It's up to us lads!

12-08-2009, 23:44
Creed all the way man!

I think I will go with Alexander III of Macedon........

13-08-2009, 00:14
Can I say Cypher again, seeing as he used to be allowed in the IG codex.

13-08-2009, 00:19
In any poll, no matter what, where Death Korps is an option, im voting for them, cause i luv dem da models.

13-08-2009, 00:19
what about Nork Deddog? he has been in every IG army of mine since the 3rd ed codex

If it has to be a character with rules, I vote for Straken, just for his sheer over-the-top-ness. He is closely followed by everbody's favourite lovable Ogryn, Nork Deddog, and the most bad-ass old-timer in the Galaxy, Commissar Yarrick.

If it's not just rules, I've got to say: Gunner Ferik Jurgen.

"Tanna, sir?"

13-08-2009, 03:32
I had to vote for Sly Marbo, even though I use Sly Bob. He's the only 'named' character I use.

13-08-2009, 03:41
Yarrick, the living personification of badass.

13-08-2009, 03:53
Yarrick. If only for this:

Heroes of Armageddon! You have withstood the evil savagery of the Orks, and they have nothing left for you to fear. So raise high the black banners of vengeance- now is our time.

Him and Grimaldus could take on Gork (and possibly Mork).

Gotta go with Old Man Yarrick. He's a tough old bastard who is just too mean and stubborn to die...what's not to like?

Colonel Schaeffer!

If it was any Character than I have to go for "Stumper Muckstart" only because the name is just cool.

In game terms I voted for Gaunt.

13-08-2009, 08:32
supreme guardsman sly marbo

13-08-2009, 08:42
Gaunt, in a real-life situation he would be the only one on that list that would actually care if you lived or died by his side.

13-08-2009, 09:12
Straken - hes essentially terminator meets iron man!! Awesome!!

13-08-2009, 09:17
Got to ask why on earth we have Steel Legion, Death Korps and Elysians in the poll they aren't characters they are regiments.

Yarrick and the Steel Legion go hand in hand they both come from Armageddon.

13-08-2009, 09:34
Cain, baby!

13-08-2009, 09:50
Yarrick because he's been through hell and back and still managed to keep armageddon standing. That equals in some real badass points.

Macharius because he managed to conquer a complete sector (a thousand worlds or so) in seven years. Got the Alexander the Great syndrome and it took a 70 year crusade, in which elements of a 100 SM chapters took part, to re-conquer it all. That a pretty big piece of tactical brilliance (and ruthlessness probably).

From a pure 'cool soldier' perspective. It's Gaunt and Bastonne. Both men that could've gone a lot farther in the IG (Bastonne was a noble and could've been an officer and Gaunt was offered a promotion), but both decided that they can do a lot more with the common soldiers. That's the stuff of real leaders.

13-08-2009, 10:23
Nork Neddog

Commissar Vaughn
13-08-2009, 10:40
Cain, baby!

Ciaphas is the only one worth mentioning.

Which why I named my Hamster after him (he spends a lot of time running and hiding:D )

13-08-2009, 11:16
I voted for Lord Solar Macharius. He conquered more territory, has better rules, and possibly the coolest storyline ripped off of Alexander the Great.

I can't say much for the old model - it was nice, but nothing like the artwork.

If GW brought him back for 5th edition, he would put Creed to shame. 4 orders a turn? Try 20.

Lord Cook
13-08-2009, 12:29
Macharius. Under his leadership the Imperium conquered more worlds than any campaign since the Great Crusade.

13-08-2009, 12:38

He's a great character, just a shame there are no rules for him.

Captain Micha

Commissar Gaunt. He's just awesome sauce boiled down to it's most pure and made into a character.

13-08-2009, 13:22
Marbo, because he's an IKARI WARRIOR.

13-08-2009, 16:06
Iron hand straken for his "Get stuck in and don't be afraid to get it on yer" style of command, as seen in Codex:Catachans - don't remember the exact quote, but I love how there's half a page of him yelling, coercing and encouraging his men up a hill, that ends with them only half way up.

Hell yes, that quote is awesome. I've got the old codex on my computer, I'll repeat it here... :D

"What in the seven hells of Chaos are you waiting for? Personal orders from the Emperor himself? When I say take that damned hill, I mean take that damned hill, not damn well stand around and stare at it! I don't care if there's fifty L'Huraxi up there. I don't care if there are fifty thousand L'Huraxi up there! Our orders are to take that hill and I'm going to damn well take that hill even if it means I have to kill every last one of those purple-skinned giants myself. Damn it, follow me. I'll show you how it's done. That's it, get stuck in there. Medic! Stop whining, Brook, you've got another damned leg. D'ya think I cried like a damned new-born when I lost my arm? Course I damn well didn't, I upped and ripped that damn land shark's damned throat out with my damned teeth! That's it, Sergeant Reed, give 'em some Catachan steel. Emperor's teeth, their blood stinks. Get that heavy flamer into that trench; flush the damned Grox-heads out. That trench, you idiot, not this one! Oh yes, smell those aliens burn. Smells better than breakfast, don't it? Give me that damn grenade. Do I have to do everything myself? See? That ain't proper armour like you'd see on and Imperial tank - no it's flimsy, fall-down-in-a-strong-breeze, I-hope-they-don't-spit-at-me armour. I didn't really mean spit at it! You there! Yes you! Pick up Sergeant Creek's hand. The Medics might be able to stick it on for him again later. Don't stop now, you damned work-shy sons of acid-grubs, we're only damn well halfway up..."

- Colonel Straken at the Battle of Moden's Ridge, Yaquit 27 Campaign

13-08-2009, 16:58

I mean, Marbo. ;)

13-08-2009, 17:01
Gaunt. A true commissar.

13-08-2009, 18:03
I vote "Other"
I pick Maximillian Weisemann, he has his own Baneblade, how sweet is that?

13-08-2009, 19:06
Macharius. Always go first, best rule ever.

13-08-2009, 19:10
I loves me some Nork Deddog, but I ultimately choose Harker....where is my IG version of Jesse Ventura?!

13-08-2009, 19:12
Colonel Schaeffer!
I most heartily agree. Ciaphas Cain comes second.

13-08-2009, 19:55
Lord Solar Macharius because he conquered so much that after the macharius heresy it took 70 years to get it back
plus alexander is my fav real person

though Colonel Straken comes in second for that quote a few posts above lol
