Due to the change of priorities in Poland there will be no Golden Demon in 2009 and probably for other years...
Two months before the competition they have given the official announcement!

Thank you GW, you make me wanna quit the hobby :cries:

That sucks, Poland for some reason has an inordinate amount of skilled painters and modellers. Hopefully someone will step in and make an unofficial one.

My first thought when I heard about this is it was punishment for the GD Chicago shenanigans, which I believe involved a painter from Poland.

thats rough, yeah cheating isnt cool and stuff like this could very well put people off (why do my own stuff when i can just pay a pro to do it for me?) but its not fair to do this to an entire country because of the actions of one person

btw search through CMoN for the red angel by grytz, he made that for me, guess i cant enter that then

I am pretty sure GW would never cancel a golden demon for something like this, it was just a funny thought.

The chicago issue is really sad, thinking that it robbed people of demons who really deserved them to give some douche bag some trophies. I also can't fathom what the guy will do with them, will he go into his local store and claim he won them?

My guess the Polish GD cancelation is just part of whatever GW has been doing in the last while, like the canceled tournaments in North America. Hopefully this is all temporary, because Poland really does seem to has something in the water there that makes for great painters :)

Ouch, a real kick in the pants for people who spend 5 months working on a mini for these things. I hope they rechedule it at some point.

Man, last minute announcement- fail. Sorry Poland, I've seen some pictures of past years - quality quality stuff.

the cancelling of GD in Poland has nothing to do with the cheating in Chicago.

Man, last minute announcement- fail.

I agree it's a shame that there wont be golden daemon for poland this year but, last minute?

I wouldn't consider two months notcie, last minute.

Hopefully it will be back and those that have started working on their models don't feel as if they've wasted their time.

Polish painters came up with an alternative contest - Slayer of Demons. Some of the works:

I went to Poland this summer to visit some family in Warszawa and to my disbelief there were actually some relatives who collected these kinds of models and they were stunning painters.
They shame my models atleast...

its a shame GW knocked it on the head, the Emerging Markets team put so much effort into building it up and making it a success :(

Good job GW.....

This sums it up for me. I do not know why they not only shoot themselves in the foot, but empty the entire clip, one bullet at a time.

Some Golden Demon entrants take many months converting and painting their models for competition.

Two months is last minute if you have spent 8 months working on your entry.

Poor show.

Meh, so GW sponsored event was killed, it looks like the SoD was quite succesful little even though, so I hope it'll grow in the coming years.

One GD per year in North America?...Trying to make it feel more "epic" is what they say?...It sounds more like an excuse to cutting down on costs.

Seriously, the NA continent is as big as the whole of Europe! What was so bad about having 1 in the States and another in Canada?

Err... the fact that they had several loss-making events rather than one profit-making event?

The old status of three US Golden Demons was always going to be unsustainable.
