View Full Version : Thrud the Barbarian - compilation of OLD comic strips?

Well, technically this is neither LOTR, nor 40K, nor Fantasy, so I'll post this topic here in "other GW".

The old and grumpy guys (aka Hobby veterans) might remember the "Thrud the Barbarian" comic strips from the White Dwarfs. So I have a pretty simple question: were these strips ever collected into a book? Or do I have to track down all WD issues to put them together myself? And yes, I know that there are four or five coloured Thrud comic books, but if I am not mistaken they are much newer...

Thanks and greetz

I believe there was a collection of the old Thrud strips, but it's long since out of print.

Try dropping a line to Carl at input@thrudthebarbarian.com to see if there's any plans for a reprint. Seems unlikely however.

Okay, thx. Do you remember what the compilation might have been called? Ebay always is an option for OOP.

Thrud the Barbarian (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Thrud-the-Barbarian-Games-Workshop-White-Dwarf_W0QQitemZ220466394984QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_B ooks_Comics_Magazines_US_Comics_ET?hash=item3354d2 3768&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14). Not my auction. No recommendation on the seller.

Carl Critchlow can't reprint the WD material as I think the copyright of them is muddled between him and GW. Which is why GW are now so keen on keeping the rights to all created IP.

He has done some further Thrudds (http://www.thrudthebarbarian.com/).

Excellent, thanks. To be honest I am surprised that this issue was cleared up so fast, but I really appreciate it. Thrud still seems to have some other fans out there :D

Thrud is simply Da Man!;)

I've still got my copy of that graffik novel.

Thrud was da man. Every fantasy barbarian hero trope tossed into a blender and then laughed at.

Still find the "portrait time" one hilarious in its mockery of the Vallejo style.

My favorate Thrud is Thrud vs the Mutant Zombie Bikers :P

Or the one when he gets offended by the Mysterious Watcher

Or Maybe when he gets upset about the demise of his 'Iffle Wiffle Flower'

Or maybe when he spends the entire strip trying to find his way past dangerous places on his way to the Hobbits Armpit! (Yak Yak monster, yak yak :P )

Hell i like them all.

Yeah, there're loads. The compilation is really just a slim magazine, about 50 pages. It was published in 1987 and I think Thrud ran until about 1990.

Not 100% sure though, it was a long time ago!

I think I can make a fan compilation (I do have almost all the WD's), so the series could be completed, probably will be burned by GW regarding IP bladibla, could also make a compilation of Gobledigook ;)

dont know how in regardence of copyright, but I would be willing to help.

While I remember the thing with the watcher this is unknown to me. Remember which WD it was in?
