View Full Version : 3000 pts of lizards for 'Ard boyz

22-08-2009, 17:11
so my buddy and i are intending to go to a tournament coming up. its 3000 points. unfortunatly he doesnt think he can make it so i decided he needed to have his lizards represented. i was thinking about taking Lord Mazdamundi but im unsure about what else to take. Chakax seems like a good option here but i dont exactly know what im doing. so are there any suggestions or list ideas out there. remember the cheesier the better.

22-08-2009, 17:25
I think that Mazdamundi is way overpriced. I'd probably run an old blood on a carnasaur and a slann for my lord choices and max out the rest of the list with stegadons, skinks w/ blowguns and enough terradons to deal with warmachines.

Slann BSB w/ 16 temple guard

3 Engines of the Gods

Warchief on Ancient Stegadon

4x10 skinks w/ blowguns

Fill in the rest of your list with as many ancient stegadons as you can fit in. If you're close on points then go with a unit of terradons.

Chakax is a beast he and the rest of the tmeple guard took on 2 squads of black guard but there was only the slann left after that

Well if I was to make a 3k list I'd probably do my idea of the big 4 to lead the army. The slann, oldblood on a carnosaur, the engine of the gods, and a skink chief on an ancient stegadon with the war lance.

Probably 2 units of saurus warriors, 2 units of skink skirmishers as your core.

Some terradons, temple guard, and whatever you want as your specials.

Rare could be anything as well.

Seems like it would be fun to play with and would be really good. I don't really like to use special characters but I like most of the ones we can use. Kroak and Chakax would be a pretty awesome combo if you ask me. :D

ok so im set on chakax. since i am going for cheesy what about having krok gar in the same or different unit with maybe tetoecho in one. would anybody think this is good or is that too many points on characters?
so if Mazdamundi is to over cost what about Lord kroak? maybe him and teto echo?

If you compare Kroq'Gar to his normal Carnosaur-mounted alter-ego, the mounted Oldblood proves to be much more efficient and versatile. Sure, the Revered Spear of Tlanxla can win you some fights with relative ease, but it gets shut down by Immune to Psychology. On the other hand, Blade of Revered Tzunki or Pirahna Blade + Bane Head make for some devastatingly satisfying killing. One thing going for Kroq'Gar is his relative reliability, since Grimloq (his Carnosaur) does not have Blood-Frenzy, rather trading it for an extra attack.

Tetto'eko is amazing in the sense he's a palanquin-riding skink. As such, he can bunker in a unit of Skink cohorts to immitate a fat toad with his TG. If you're planning on bringing several Lore of Heavens users, then little T is your man. However, if you're going low key with your Skink Priests/not using Lore of Heavens with your Slaan, he should stay home.

what about gor rok and Lord Kroak. I was thinking maybe putting kroak and chakax together then gor rok in the unit next to them. then as my final character have an EoTG

24-08-2009, 18:33
Both are expensive (Gor'Rok for being a 2 wound hero, Kroak... Well, he's just expensive! lol). Gor'Rok is amazingly tough for a Scar-Vet, denies charging bonuses (i.e. Lances won't be giving +2 str) because he counts as defending an obstacle and makes whatever unit he accompanies stubborn. Just... wow. He's pricey for a hero-level character, but wow.

Kroak isn't one for variety, but Deliverance of Itza can blow armies apart. Another bonus is that the dice he generates are added to your army's pool, effectively pumping your other casters' magic. Kroak doesn't come cheap though, but you get what you pay for.

you have to get them get 2 blocks of 20 guard and they wil stomp everything, put some engine of the gods and a slann. After that just get like 4 blocks of 16 sauros, and a carnisaur. Forget about terradons they are horrible

29-09-2009, 05:46
What list did you end up running?

29-09-2009, 14:12
Why not try a Kroak/Slann combo? Kroak lends his dice to the Slann while he's out of range, take lore of fire. Using 10 power dice:

1+1: Fireball
2+1: Firey Blast
3+1: Conflag of Doom
3+1: Wall of Fire

1 spare for the EotG skink priest Thunderbolt or Comet if you have it.

Once you get in close give 6 dice to Kroak for his spell spamming.

Guard of Itza

most brutal lizard list is six engines of the gods with minimum skirmisher core. Screen the skinks to that a unit charges the skinks they overrun into a line a engines that will all send off burning alignment. Some times the redcrest character is used (always spell his name wrong so lets not try) on an engine. Destroys any vamp and daemon list and can give some trouble for dark elves, it is really only beaten by dwarfs thorek gunlines.

I don't think *any* of the spec characters are worth their points values. At least nowhere near as bargain-y as, say, chaos characters.

01-10-2009, 09:28
How did your carnosaur do? Everytime I have played him he has gotten eaten by magic and arrows. I have never played him with a slann and two stegadons though. How did the warspear do? I used it once and didnt like it compared to the engine. You commented on my list with the two engines. My thoughts on two engines is one to give the 5+ ward to almost the entire army while one lowers magic casting cost for the slann and two priest. In close combat one can still give the 5+ while the other burns everything up. I like blade of realities but with so many ward saves out there..... I am open for your comments.

02-10-2009, 04:48
Two engines i feel is a bit to many invested in points. and the warspear killed a chaos lord for me. also the blade of realities is great against monsters and other large things. remember its only to hit and if they fail one leadership test they die no armor, regen, OR ward saves allowed. if your old blood hits 5 times they are bound to fail eventually and if they pass then you still get to roll to wound. if all else fails then the carnosaur gets to have fun. He has yet to fail me. but you should go with your personal experience. people like cold ones but they always flop for me. and i have 3 stegadons :p with so many targets they cant pick to shoot the slann, old blood or one of the stegadons. it works even better should the slann have lore of metal. law of gold and commandment of brass are game winners.

03-10-2009, 12:21
Yashamaru38. What do you think about the blade of realities along with the Carnosaur Pendant?

03-10-2009, 18:38
I think thats mean:p I like it. the only reason i take the enchanted shield is for that 1+ armor save. he's pretty good im not gonna lie. and he always made up his points for me. He can kill alot of stuff. even if they have ld 10

04-10-2009, 11:04
This is up for debate. Do the Saurus warriors get +1 to Armor save if they use their spears and a shield. It is kind of vague in the rules. It states a shield and a hand weapon. I have heard both ways.

04-10-2009, 13:59
a spear is not a hand weapon. its like a halberd, flail, lance, great weapon, etc, in that you don't get the bonus for hand weapon and shield.

05-10-2009, 12:22
That sucks. I also re-read the rules and realize that if you hit a unit on the flank or rear they dont get their +1 armor save for the attacking unit.

05-10-2009, 15:10
Carnosaur pendent on a lord on a carnosaur is useless. Once the carni does a wound, the whole model gets frenzy. Stick with enchanted shield or talisman of prot.

Peronsally from the OP's second list i would drop 2 unit of saurus, buff the others to TG and a slightly larger units. Then get another unit of skinks, some terradons and some salamanders/saurus cav.
Your list is mostly, except for slann, highly mobile. The saurus do not complement this at all. Mass out on highly specialised hard hitting units.
Also drop divine plaque of prot for scroll + bane head. Scroll for the 'oh *#@?* spell like gateway on your carni, bane head for general utility.

I played a game with my above list against a 3000 point dark elves list. Massacered them in the normal rules but with Ard boys rules only became a minor victory. The Oldblood got destroyed by Hellebron, but the carnosaur did two wounds that turned into 5. He basically bit her head off. The blade of realities didn't help me much because the witches had always strike first. Having the two engines of the gods with 5+ ward saves for my entire army won the game. It is absolutely disgusting. My 30 spear unit took 2 wounds being in combat for 3 of 6 turns. He had a ring of Hotek which limited me on casting with the 6 miscasts I had. The temple guard are disgusting. I always used the handweapon and shield combination. Does anyone have thought on the temple guard with this instead of the halberd?

I am thinking of just lowering my 30 man spear unit to 25, and adding either another skink unit or magic items. In tournaments I hear a lot of players take Epidemus. So in this instance more skinks would be better. I think?

This makes it sounds like you are taking this save in combat? This is only Vs shooting attacks that are greater then 12" away from the Steg with the Engine. Just making sure you understand that.

14-10-2009, 01:30
Yes he had alot of shooting. I was able to get to him with all the ward saves then win in close combat.
