i played this list in a tournament and got third by massacring an O.K., and O&G player, and getting a minor loss against an all tzeench karios list. any hints on what i should do when combat other armies?

Hmm. Here's my two cents.:
- Slann: 4 disciplines makes our toady friend very pricey. Focused Rumination and Focus of Mystery are all what you'd really need, and maybe Becalming Cogitation. Being Ethereal isn't required (bunker him in TG). As for items, Bane Head is always nice, mixed with certain lores it can produce 2 wounds per turn on the marked target. Cupped Hands of the Old Ones is a very good investment, protecting Prince Charming from frying his brains and with the added bonus of sending his brain spasms to another wizard. Making him a BSB is also a good idea (this again works when bunkered in TG).

- Skink Priest is awesome as he is, though I'd mount him on an EotG. Making him run around with Skink Skirmishers leaves him vulnerable. Drop a Steg and invest in an Engine, you won't be disappointed.

- Skink Chief and Scar-Vet are both looking good.

- Drop your Saurus units to 18 models with Spears. Only add a champion in the unit with your Scar-Vet (which should contain 16 Saurus with Spears, his addition will bump them to US 18), Standards and Musician as normal. Rank them 6*3 for optimized spear killyness.

- Why use 3 units of Skink Skirmishers, let alone a Javelin/Spear one? I guess it was intended to be the Skink Priest escort, but their points can be better spent elsewhere (especially if you field an Engine).

- Personally, I'd drop a unit of Saurus and invest in TG if you're fielding a Slann Mage-Priest. 16-20 are a good number. Reason being your toad prince of magic needs to be bunkered, and their combined efforts create a nigh unmoveable tarpit.

Now, on to general strategy since you've asked. OK and O&G are old armybooks and struggle on the tournament scene these days. Big contenders include Daemons, DE and VC these days. Against Daemons and VC, the Engine of the Gods truly shines with its Burning Alignment, frying units in its path be they engaged or not. It can also provide protection against pesky shooting and gunlines (WE and Dwarfs). The Temple Guard tarpit proves to be nigh unbreakable (re-rollable Ld9 on 3d6, yeah...) and the mainstay anvil of any Slann list. Since your list has few models, it can be easily harassed by fast cavalry and scouts (seeing as your Terradons are the only 'mobile' forces you have, capable of fulfilling the previously stated roles). Bolt Throwers and Cannons will be the bane of your monsters, but this is also mitigated by the use of an Engine. Warmachines will also fear the approach of your Terradons: being supported by a chief gives them a fighting edge.

All in all, a very balanced list that can be tweaked, but you should be on your way to victory :D!

my slann never took a wound until the match i fought the daemons when he did 4 wounds through 4 high hit and wounding magic missiles and screamer bombs, and only because my dice started to get tired ... :D
