Greetings,

I'm looking into surprising my game group with two small demo armies for War of the Rings, so we can play over our holiday breaks off of graduate school.

Question: I have access to a Mines of Moria box. It seems like a great deal -- but I noticed it says, "plastic" in the description of the minis. Are the figs in the MoM box the same as those you would buy seperately? If I'm going to paint Gandalf, I want a nice sculpt and good quality piece, you know?

Do any of you recommend this box set?

Thanks.

The moria goblins are the same ones that came out with LotR. The plastic Fellowship has decent sculpts, but the various metal sculpts that are floating around are nicer.

Everything in the box is plastic but arpart form the Goblins everything in the box is exclusive. This means you get the ONLY plastic fellowship and a plastic Troll.
I personaly think they are all right but noting fantastic and i only really like the Sam modal(Frying pan LOL). The Troll i find is top heavy and often falls over on it's face. There are better Trolls, and fellowship. I'll give you links to what i think are the best feelowship.

As others have said, no, the plastic Fellowship isn't the same as the metal box set. The minis are pretty decent, but they aren't as nicely detailed as the metal ones.

Oh, absolutely. It gets you a nice bunch of minis to start, along with some generally handy terrain and the mini rulebook (which has all the basic rules for the skirmish game). Even if I really wanted the metal Fellowship, I'd still find uses for the plastic ones in the Mines of Moria box in conversions or whatever.

It all depends. You want it for WotR only, then a maybe. Are you going to be playing Goblins? If not then I wouldn't bother, unless you want a full Fellowship cheap to start playing right away.

If you want it for WotR and SBG, then yes since you will have the minis, terrian, and rules for SBG later.

Thanks everyone. Probably going to start building two demo armies, but will pass on the Moria box.
The metal gandalf(s) are just too nice. And Goblins aren't expensive.
Much Appreciated.
