Soo, this is the start of my very first painting log :) feels exciting and I'm looking forward to becoming a better painter/modeller with the help of your comments/critique...

I'm building an Empire army based upon a province army of the thickly forested province Hochland, with a few well known additions, as the red-and-white-knights-who-guard-the-emperor, and a artillery/handgun squad straight out of Nuln, a needed ally for my state troops.

In this (and the next) post I'll show you what I've accomplished so far (i.e. these are the units that I've completed before starting this log), but also some WIP from this week. The pics are a bit dark, I know... couldn't help it this time but next time I'll grab a better camera.

I will continue posting (hopefully) once a week with some new updates if (again hopefully) someone show interest in my army building.

Until next post.

Some more of the "already finished" stuff:

http://a.imagehost.org/0465/Grey_Guardian.jpg
A Grey Guardian painted about 7 years ago, but I'll be bringing him to the field anyhow, as a small touch of older days.

And last but not least, my first actual "unit" (in the non-character sense of the word)

(sorry for the lousy pics)

And then on to some WIP:

http://a.imagehost.org/0243/Handgunners_WIP.jpg
Some kit bashed WIP Handgunners, primed black... just realized I should have photographed these before spraying... note to self to next time...

A Captain holding Rod of Command based of the Collectors Empire Captain (with giant mace and wine bottle)...again with the black spray...sorry...

That's all so far...I hope you enjoy the pics and look forward to more :)

Cheers

Ah Hochland, lovely!
Reading the name got me all exited, and you didn't let me down.
Everything looks good so far. I'm looking forward to the dynamic Handgunners and the converted Captain.

next up for painting is the handgunners, in a nuln colour scheme. Started painting them a few hours ago. hopefully I will have them finished by next week :)

Then the Rod of Command Captain is up and after him a bunch of flagellants, Swordsmen and a War Altar.

There are some really good stuff here. I think the Militia Captain is my favorite. I think you could do more to accentuate the common army-colours. It may just be the pictures, but the green comes of as almost black on some models.

Looking forward to seeing more of your army painted!

Yeah the pics of the 2 foot captains, didn't turn out very great. All the colours got a bit dark... the greens and reds are brighter IRL.

I also look forward to painting some actual Hochland troops :) the chars, knights, cannon and coming up handgunners are mostly non-hochland themed paintjobs, the only persons originating from the province is the captains. And on the captains there has been only small areas of the theme-colours.

So, looking forward to some state troops to give the army an overall colour theme...

Wow... the Red and Green Colours gave me quite a flasback to my own models. I see that you finally have gotten rid of your fear of Red. You are doing a Job well Done so far. Hope to se some of those heavy converting skills of yours on your future models

The painting is very very good. The only thing I don't like is the captasus. The mounts looks too small and too stacic for me. But rest of the conversions are great.

I like the muted colors on the state troopers, gives them a gritty feel.

Thanks, yeah that was the idea. The Nuln troops are described as being very grimy and dirty thanks to all the forges in the city, so I kinda tried to capture that. Especially with the heavy brown washing on the armour.

That's a very good looking mini, especially for rank and file. Got to second wolf40k, very gritty. Keep it up!

Looking good. So tell me now. On a scale from 0-30 (fanatic), what are you aiming for?

Ha! This army won't be finished to the next Fanatic (it's in 3 weeks, you remember?). But when it's ready (hopefully before the baby comes in February) I'll be taking it to the first fanatic coming up (spring 2010?) and of course going for 30...or at least 28 I guess :)

BTW. I'll post pics of a few more finished models from the Handgunners unit and my latest conversion, the War Altar of Sigmar, on Wednesday night :)

My WIP War Altar of Sigmar.
This altar will be true to the Large Target rule for once :)
The Griffon will be painted golden like his predecessor.
Enjoy!

Wow! This is great! Very nice work. I like the gritty, realistic feel. I think a well painted Empire army is one of the most beautiful sights in warhammer.

I really like your knights!

Hah, great War Altar!

Warrior Priest: "Doom hath come for ye, lowly heathens and forthaken heretics! Out of my thundering path! Thith holy vehicle hath no braketh!"

Nuln/Hochland coalition forces have a certain style. :)

Hia all.
Sorry for my absence.
I've had my hand full with a HE painting job the last weeks and will have for the coming months I presume to.

So...this thread won't be seeing any new Empire pics for a while but I will post some pics of the HE's I'm working on for my buyer shortly...

Cheers

ps. thanks for all the nice words about my empire. I'm looking forward to continuing on them as soon as this HE madness is over. ds
