Seems like the Tolkien Estate has won a considerable victory over New Line's present owner Time Warner:

Over the years many people have reported that Professor Tolkien sold the film rights in 1968 for 'only 30,000' - a pittance they said.

But over the years these people have overlooked the 7.5% clause.

New Line tried to as well - but $150 million later, well.

Don't mess with a Tolkien!

Hell yes! Good to see them get their fair due from those frakkin Hollywood schysters who seem to live for screwing others out of any reasonable cut of any given project - just on instinct.

Damn, they really want their share.

New Line are crooks; the Tolkiens aren't the first they tried to screw over.

Though 7.5% of the gross is a fantastic clause, no need to figure out costs and deductibles on net (which would have probably shown a loss).

True that!

Apparently it was holding up production on The Hobbit, too. Between deciding who owned the rights, Jackson's lawsuit and the Tolkiens' lawsuit, it's a miracle the movies are even getting made at all.
