Hi All, I'm new to Fantasy, and Warriors of Chaos. A while my gaming group did run a Path to Glory Campaign, where I got my first taste of Fantasy as well as Chaos. My warband was Nurgle for it, and I actually placed second. So, here I am with more Chaosy goodness!....that's an oxymoron....

We are now running an Escalation League, from 600 to 1500 points, though I plan on doing a full 2250 so I can participate in our Fantasy Tournament which happens right after the Escalation League wraps up. I'm probably going to go insane, and have more than that done, as I like to switch up my list all the time and have units to swap out.

I'm going primarily Tzeentch, as I'm intrigued with the Magic phase as well as his lore. While I am starting out pretty stock, I am planning on doing a lot of conversions. I also love the idea of the Death Star style list, and I want to make a block of Chosen for it. I don't really care for GW's models for Chosen, so mine will all be converted. I will also have converted Warshrines, and I have a couple of ideas ;)

It's week One already, and I got a lot done. I have my 3 colors and bases done, and went a bit further than that with the basing which was fun. My inspiration for this army is that they are coming from the Chaos Wastes to invade the Southlands, but are doing so during winter by crossing a glacier. I was inspired by that because it is speculated the Native American Indians may have been Asian descendants, whom crossed a similar bridge from Asia via Alaska. Just an intriguing idea that stuck with me through the years.

I tried a new technique with this army, I primed them white and then did all my painting with only washes. I think they look tabletop, and I will go through at a later date and take a pass with some normal paint. By using this method, it's almost like sketching. I can block in some colors, and decide if I like it or not. The only units I didn't do like this are the Warriors and Warhounds. The Warriors still need details done, but the Warhounds are finished.

I am currently working on converted Chosen and a Sorcerer made from Warriors. I will post pics of those later tonite. For now, here is what i have finished so far.

These Marauder Horsmen..well, Skull White Fail. I have primered many a model before, and I have never had an outcome this bad. I needed to get it done, so I went ahead anyway with the grainy finish. The washes look pretty cool though.

The Exalted needs a bit more work, he's a little sloppy:

The Warhounds have been finished since, I just need to get some pics taken.

Thanks for looking, and reading the text wall ;)

Here are some more pics! These are all wip, I think I'm going to focus on getting the Sorcerer finished. I'm planning on giving him a regular base as well as a Disk of Tzeentch. So, he will be magnetized.

I finished the disc and sorcerer, and got a coat of primer on them (crappy Krylon primer, which I got because I was desperate. I won't make that mistake again...again.) I made the disc out of 2 40mm bases and some CSM accessory sprue bits. The Sorcerer is magnetized, as is the disc to the base. Now I just need to flock and prime the base, and get some paint on this project!

I'm having so much fun doing this army!

Here are some pics:

Here it is, all painted up, a Sorc and his disc. He will be a Sorcerer Lord later, when points allow.

The paint is a bit sloppy in spots, but there isn't much I can do about it using only washes ;)

I like the disc.Is it made of rhino parts?

I used 2 40mm round bases. All the bits and bobs are from CSM Vehicle Upgrade sprues ;)

Very nice stufff - and appropriate to start a log on Tzeentch's own day - 9/9/09...

I like your blue - care to share the recipe?

And one point of (hopefully) constructive criticism - the goldy couloured bits on the disc have splashes of blue up the sides, which detract from the excellent conversion and painting...

Definitely two paws up, from me :)

Forgive while I pause in my typing to put my jaw back in.

...

ok done :)

Absolutely awesome job here. And in response to your question... Not an exact rhyme but..

When the Tzeentch stole christmas...

Thanks guys!

I know the paint is a bit sloppy in places. That's what I get for painting at 3AM ;) I'm also using mostly washes, which works like watercolors: If you mess up, it shows big time. What I plan to do is take another pass at the whole army, adding much much more detail and correcting all my mistakes.

I really appreciate everyone pointing these out, as I may have missed them. I will have a written log later, when I go through and correct them. So thanks everyone for the critique!

For the blue, I'm trying to remember. I drybrushed it all (and cleaned it up later) starting with Necron Abyss> Lightning Blue> Mordian Blue> Ultramarine Blue> Ultramarine/Enchanted Blue....if I recall correctly. I did it on vacation a couple weeks ago...sitting in the sun having drinks ;)

AWESOME! You've given me the idea of how to make my disc.

If, of course, you don't mind me using it...

this army is looking excellent so far, i've never seen your washes-as-watercolors thing executed before.

plus, i'm a sucker for the big blue scheming dude.

excellent work, hope to see a whole lot more soon.

just one question, what kits are the head and scepter of the sorceror from??

just one question, what kits are the head and scepter of the sorceror from??

Either Ahriman, a 40k Sorcerer, or the Terminator Sorcerer/Lord kit.

EDIT: Or even the Tzeentch Champion head from the CSM box.

The staff and head are from CSM Termi/Sorc kit ;) Actually, the arm holding the staff is from a Khorne Berzerker. The hand is attached to the staff, so I pinned it to a very shaved down Berzerker arm. The torso is from the CSM Possessed box set.

Please feel free to use anything I use in this blog. Besides receiving good ideas, I'm hoping to share some of mine!

Actually, how exactly did you make the Sorcerer? Like exactly?

Wow, this is like finding gold in your back yard- makes you want to jump for joy.

I love your work, and also plan on stealing that disc idea one day. I really love the sorcerer, and hope to see more of your chosen soon.

'Eench' (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=eench) rhymes with tzeentch... At least it does with my pronunciation of the word...

Really nice stuff. That sorcerer lord is fantastic, and I think your painting method is brilliant for the marauder horsemen. Horses in general I suspect!
Looking forward to seeing more :)

I got a Tzeentch Greater Demon in the Mail yesterday, and I'm excited! I finished assembling it, and I will add some GS to fill gaps. I do need to convert a top for the staff, and it should be ready soon.

I also cleaned up some Spawns. I need to GS them as well, and then make some custom bases for them. I went to make them last night, from foam insulation board, but the batteries were dead in my hot cutter. I have some ideas for those Spawn, and they are going to be my focus for getting finished by Wednesday.

I also ordered another WoC Battalion and a plastic High Elf Dragon. I have ideas...MUHUHAHAHAH!!

Thanks for all the feedback!

Actually, how exactly did you make the Sorcerer? Like exactly?

Hopefully I can remember this exactly....;)

I took the front of a chaos warrior, and cut him in half just above the belt. I then shaved the back piece, the 'tabs' that allow the arms to fit snug. That made it so the Possessed torso would fit snug. I then matched up the legs to the torso.

The shield is from the Knight sprue, and the arm is from the chaos warriors sprue champion weapon. I just cut off the weapon. Easy!

The staff arm was a CSM Khorne Berzerker arm. I just cut it at the wrist, and cut off the shoulder bit where the shoulder pad would go. I then took my pin vice and drilled a hole into where the fist was. The Staff already had a hand attached, so I took my pin vise and again drilled a hole where the arm might be. I put some glue in the hole, then put some copper wire into it. I cut it, leaving a small length of it to fit in the hole in the arm. I then put glue on the 2 parts and put it together.

I have some modelling chain, which I draped over the arm. I tried as best I could to make it look like it was wrapped around the arm and under the cape. I then took the Book from the Chaos Lord sprue, glued lengths of chain to it, and glued the chain to the chain already on the arm.

The loincloth is just a loincloth bit from the Chaos Lord sprue. I also made a wand, which was the length of ax left over from the champ arm and a skull that came with the warriors sprue. I just glued the skull to the shaft, and the shaft to the belt.

The head is just one from the Chaos Lord Sprue.

So, it seems the Chaos Terminator/Sorcerer box set is a good kit to have for bashing bits ;)

With 100 points needed to bring me to 800 for next week, and me having a decidedly tough time, I decided to change things up a bit. I was trying to stick with what I wanted to make and play, for the most part. But I can only stand being massacred so many times, and I would like to win one. Here is my rough list for this coming week.

Exalted
MoT
Collar of Khorne
2 Hand Weapons
General

12 Warriors
MoT
Full Command
Shields

10 Marauders
MoS
Musician
Flails

5 Warhounds

5 Marauder Horsemen
MoS
Musician
Throwing Axes

5 Knights
Musician
Banner

Hopefully, this will make me a little more competitive. Thoughts?

PS, I could also add 2 Spawn in place of something, as I will be working on those at the same time or could work on them instead.

Well I'll probably do just that! :D

Looks to me like that chariot might have to take D6 S6 hits for going across difficult terrain! :D
Looks lovely though, really stunning paint job. The colours look very vivid :)
