After collecting orks for 4 years, I decided to start a second army - one to be as fun to build, convert and modify as greenskins. And what caought my eyes?
Right. Salvar chem dogs. Gas masks, drugs, looted weapons. My kind of guys.
But then I decided the concept deserves more than a penal legion of rag-tage deathwishers. I've been pondering and playing with ideas and concepts, until I finally decided to stick to the classic. Post-apocalyptic raider force.
It could have worked better with a Chaos Renegade Militia, you'd say. Not really.

Hephast Raiders are Guard regiment originating from hive city of Hephast, Valanos IV, where they earned the glory of relentless ork hunters. Now they are locked together with their old foe on an imperial fringe world undergone massive orbital bombardment in an attempt to wipe out a Waaagh... right before it was sealed from the rest of the subsector by a convenietly occuring warp storm. So they are stuck there among the irradiated ruins of a prosperous Imperial colony... for decades. Going next to barbarity as they are fighting orks and rival gangs of survivors in a war over remaing resources, tyrannizing remaining civilian population, recruiting rabble of all sorts and becoming a merciless raider warband. Ruled by the rusty iron hand of former colonel, now known only as self-proclaimed General, Hephast Raiders stay true to a simplified, almost savage version of Guard hierarchy and tradition.

While IA5/6 GRM list seems to suit them more, I'm still willing to try new IG codex version. A HQ with the General as Straken on chimera, two vet squads, biker rough riders and lots of raider scum as penal squads.

Enough talk. Pics incoming.

A wannabe techpriest, first mini for this army I made from a STALKER resin model and some bitz. Doesn't have WYSIWYG axe and servo arm so I guess I'll put him among veterans.

Left to right: The General (Straken rules), one of his 'concubines' (will get a proper melta) and Marv the bodyguard (Nork rules). Based off a servitor, witch elf and Tehnolog soldier respectively.

All of these are early WIPs. More coming soon!

Is Helphast in any way related to the Helghast? And are these Raiders related to Fallout?

Hephast is modified 'Hephestus', the Greek smith god. I like the Armageddon tradition of hive city names being a reference for darker things of Greek mythology (Acheron, Hades etc).

And yes, I was greatly inspired by classic post-nuclear things like Mad Max 2 and Fallout.

Cool stuff. In the first painted batch picture, what is the female model based on? I'm sure I have the base model, but I can't remember what it was...

My first take on graffiti and the color scheme (sunburnt black + flames + writing). Weathering applied to graffiti parts thus far.
