Well, I am just wondering if 7x6 or 8x5 nightgoblins would be better.
The problem with 8x5 is that I don't have any spare room for heroes if I field 40 night goblins in it. Thanks in advance.

Generally, weak units don't go wider than they need to, as that preserves rank bonus longer.

you generally will not get more than 7 in b2b

but...

ng generally shouldn't be more than 5 wide. you usually don't want to give your opponent alot of frontage, because ng are not particularly... um... strong/killy. they are better suited to tarpitting (w/netters).

Width has its benefits if you're looking to redirect/pen in a unit, but formation should always be a decision made in each movement phase, not one decided by what your movement tray is like.

True, but I could chose one size of movement tray as default and change if needed.

I wish I could put them at 4 wide and still get ranks.

I like to run 5x5 with my night goblins. I like to make the block inexpensive, it leaves more points for fanatics!:D
