Hi.

I'm a Warhammer Fantasy fan, and I don't know much about W40K.

Now I got the Space Hulk game and I wondered about the background on Librarians, are they always blue?

Librarians are always blue.

I painted mine in my Chapter colours and painted his left shoulder pad and right knee plate blue, just like how I paint Apothecaries (but they have the white helmet too). But aye, traditionally they have all blue armour, baring the right shoulder pad which is chapter coloured.

I use a similar plan to Urath's.

The only specialists in my army who ditches Chapter colours are the Chaplains, Librarians and Techmarines match the normal troopers.

If i would paint liberians.... i should use something like this http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1290211&prodId=prod810869# maybe even darker.

Librarians are always blue.

Only if your a strict adherant to the Codex though, SW for Example are not blue.

they still perform the same function.

Liberians are usually very dark. Brown/black.
If you mean Librarians However, they are blue with one shoulder pad in chapter colours.

That is true, and I know that, but by asking I'm signaling that I want to stay true to the Background. That choice is already made, using my free will.

what chapter are you going with? is it a established one, if so the choice may already been made, if not then Free will it is :D

Except that they double up as their Chaplains.

But yeah, Librarians are blue, either completely save the left pauldron, or just the right pauldron and a kneecap, depending on which school you follow (and which looks better in your army).

That's the Wolf Priests being both Chaplain and Apothecary Onisuzume, at least it used to be..
Depends on the Chapter. I'd go with just a blue shoulderpad and normal Chapter colours, stupid bossy Guilliman.

I'm using Blood Angels as the Space Hulk background suggest.

I'm tempted to paint Calistarius normal Blood Angel red with just a blue pad, me. precintomega (IIRC) has done Calistarius in Angels Sanguine colours with one blue pad, looks super..

and any son of Dorn would not tolerate a Librarian within the chapter.

They can be blue or the can be painted in the Chapters colours and have blue added into the likes of shoulder pad detail.

So why is it that they are always blue?

Imperial Fists have Librarians, it's the Black Templar who tend to be the witch hunting zealots.

No, the Sons of Dorn have no issues with librarians, followers of our brother, Sigismund seem oddly hostile to them. ;)

Mine are painted blue with a yellow shoulder pad, my Techmarine is red with a yellow shoulder pad. My Apothecary got mainly yellow because I hate painting swathes of white...

Index Astartes: Librarians (White Dwarf 258, pg.59) would dissagree with you.

Specialists usually have certain colours associated with them (Techmarines = Red, Apothocaries = White, Librarians = Blue and Chaplains = Black). How much of their armour is in their colour and how much is in specialist colour seems to vary.

I like to paint mine with just the helmet and shoulder pad in the specialist colour. This marks them out without breaking up the uniform look of the army too much.

Except Space Wolves of course who wear the colours of Russ regardless of what some silly book says! ;) My Space Wolves wear grey, even the Wolf Priests.

I am so stealing that quote. Beautiful.

Well done, sir.
