I'm quite liking the models but can't figure why they're boxed as 20s? - Can't see myself using just 20 or having a unit of 40 - personally would use 25 but that be 15 neglected Stormvermin - anyone else see this as an issue?

Just be happy they aren't 10 for $22!

But you could always just buy one box and buy 5 more from bit sellers or something if you want 25.

haha, time for a unit filler to fill in that extra rank?

Even if you buy 2 boxes for 25 stormvermin, thats 15 lots of spares and bits for scenery, conversions and base modelling, not a bad thing. Or just buy 5 old ones now.

Find another skaven player and split the second box.

*pushes button* "That was easy!"

Stormvermin are 20 for $49.50
At 10 for $22, they'd be 20 for $44.00

You must have been thinking about Clanrats (20 for $33.00)

I'm glad someone pointed this out. Most other elite boxes (save goldswords) are running $25 for 10, or $50 for 20.

...then again, most other elites don't need more than 20 to complete a unit.

I think I still have at least 20 metal ones in the blister packs with the red cardboard backing. I just have never had a use for them. I don;t care how they are packed... I just hope they will finally be worth taking.

$28 for 10, nowadays. Flagellants are still $25 for 10, but Grave Guard and Temple Guard went up.

Doh - I don't know jack about Skaven, I was just surprised they didn't reduce it to a 10 man pack like they have most everything else.

So what were the old prices for the Stormvermin/Clanrats?

Old Clanrats were 20 for $35.
Old Stormvermin were metal - so...10 for $35 plus a command blister for $15ish...Or $25 for first rank, $22 for each additional rank given the new metal box format.

Skaven core tends to be 20+. Since GW always gives you a playable unit, they had to make the new boxes contain 20 of each or face the whines of Skaven players trying to piecemeal a horde army together $22 at a time :p

This is the first time I have ever seen GW drop it's price in a new plastic set when the old models being replaced were also plastic. Interesting.

By the way....while stormvermin are elite for skaven....they're still 7 or 8 point models. They're best used currently in boxes of close to 30.

I'll certainly be using multiple large units. The only reason I never before was the metal ones cost a fortune - and kept getting chipped. So I stuck to 25 metal ones.

I am looking forward to being able to build a true Warlord clan with lots of armoured clanrats and elite stormvermin.

I believe GW are trying to finally put some sense into currency differences. Clanrat box got cheaper in euros, but more expensive in pounds - bringing the prices closer to each other. However, even with this changes, GBP price is still somewhat cheaper than EUR price. That doesn't help UK customers, though.

could be worse.

20 for 50 bucks isnt that bad (except that there's no material justification for them costing more than clanrats, both being plastic)

but you could be getting 10 plastic models for 40 dollars (new greatswords). That was just absolutely ridiculous.

I'm just glad the prices are not completely out of line. Maybe GW finally got bit in the can with the Goldsword prices.

True, but they are getting up there.
The quality is getting much better, I'm looking forward to what's in the Battalion box if/when it comes out.

You could buy 3 blisters of Stormvermin right now, that will give you 6 more then you'll have 26 total.

People keep saying this, but there is *some* material justification. There'll likely be twice as many frames for the stormvermin. The clanrats are packed onto sprues with few extra bits. Stormvermin have many extra options and bits.

Though I agree with what you're saying, every time I hear someone make this point it somehow justifies their pricing from a marketing perspective. Take a new plastic set that you don't think will sell well. Jack the prices up to instill pure terror into your consumer base. Raise the price of subsequent boxes only slightly more than their old counterparts to make the prices look fantastic by comparison.

Brilliant?

I don't think the old metals will mix well with the new plastics. We'll have to see.

Are you really giving GW this much credit? :D

I'm starting to suspect we've been giving them too little credit for quite some time. ;)

I too thought about this as I play skaven. And, I came to the solution when I read your post.

OLD SKAVEN MODELS!!! I'll just fill them in the back. I'm not going to spend 100 dollars for a unit I aready essentially own. (old metals) :D
