Well, this is the reworked Kroot size comparision Project, I did 2 Mounths ago. After I've seen pictures of this damn cool giant Kroot Beast (http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/1533/img14121yj.jpg), that was an entry at german GD2005, I wanted to know how large it is, compared to all the other official Kroot-Species, so I made this pics. They are in some kind of comic-style, instired by some nice web-comics.

The first one is simply in black and white. Number 2 has all the beasts colloured. The 3rd has also some background/environement added and the last one is inspired by this imperial-transmission stuff, we know from GW codices and so on, with a transmission-screen(? or what ever, I don't know myself what that is :chrome:) and some size-scale.

Hope you like it and some comments would be welcome! Pics where made in Photoshop, btw.

Yes, that's some kind of 70s-DiscoStu-Tau conversion :D

Are knarlocs actually that big?

the regualr ones, not the great ones.

because i thought they were slightly smaller than a krootox

the kroot bird was smaller as well.

The knarlocs are actually that big. Quite big for cavalry.
However, that krootox is a wee bit small. A kroot is supposed to be able to stand on it's rump and fire the heavy gun.

Though I realise that the piece is already finished, another creature to include would be what I've dubbed the lesser knarloc.
Basically, it was the knarloc people used (and still use) before the FW ones came out. It's converted out of and a cold one a krootox head.
Heres a link to a pic:http://uk.games-workshop.com/tau/kroot%2Dmercenaries/

Anyway, very cool stuff there, and I am forever in your debt for directing me towards that huge beast.:)

At first sorry, because I was some time not here, so my answer is a bit late...

Wow I wanna learn Photoshop!
Thx ;) But belive me, it isn't that hard... I just have basic skills and was able to do that. Just search in the internet, because there are enought got and free Photoshop tutorials.
Oh and an other tip: Because I was not able to "paint" this beasts realy good looking by myself, I just took pictures like this (http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/7016/010728kroot155br.jpg), direct from the side and the camera near the ground, and repainted the contoures at an other layer... That's maybe not a very creative way, but it's very fast and looks at least good

I think it should be right.

Well, because I don't have any kroot models, I had to deside how large they are, with looking at so many pictures at possible. But as you see, I was maybe not completly correct. Thx for the comment about the Kroot Ox size. It was also very hard to know how large that little Kroot-Bird would be, because I have just 3-4 pics and none off them has an other model next to it, so I had to look at the base-size. So I hope his size is more or less correct... And I also hope the Hound is more or less right sized.

Yes, I know that one, but to be honestly, I don't realy like the look of it. I know Merch-Players use it, because it's the easyest and fastes way to produce trackers, but it don't realy like the look, especially compared to the FW ones. Just one look and you see it's a conversion.

Well and to repay your help, here are all other Pic's I could find until now of that beast. Have fun :)
Number one, with the best quality (http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/4787/10012435tp.jpg)
This one is very blurred, but it's the one I used for my picture (http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/4840/gamesday050268ya.jpg)
Last one. At the very right side you have a front view (http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/1448/p8280282rechtoben6wc.jpg)
All I heard until now about it, is that some said it's probably a woodcarving.

BTW: I'm at the moment again at working something krooty, but this time more 3D...

But it's just my first realy 3d model and still VERY work in progress... But I hope I can get a good looking Kroot done, sometime. Oh, and as you can see, he even has 4 fingers and no nose ;)

FWIW, it looks like the term 'Knarloc' is a very generic term for any large, buden-bearing Krootform and as such covers a wide range of species. I'd agree that the versions presented in Chapter Approved and the Tau & Necron collectors guide are very simplistic conversions, though - I prefer something more overtly Kroot-y:

Ah, yes I know this conversion (because I'm also a Member of Kompletely Kroot ;) ) also and it's something that fits much better in my opinion!
