Since I haven't seen a new thread and assume Lord Dan is just busy I went ahead and made this new thread, copied from Lord Dan's last thread. Lets see those Empire colors!

Hey guys,

As per the general consensus, I've decided to open up a new thread for this next month. The other thread will be locked in one week.

Please Read!

For the first week (starting now and ending this next Sunday) the only posts in here should be anyone wishing to post their work for September. The purpose of this is to have as many of the completed shots together as possible so that anyone wishing to see the might of the combined Empire armies of Warseer need only scroll down a single page and tremble! Please save all comments, critiques, celebrations, and WIP for October for next week.

As I mentioned earlier the other thread will lock in one week so if there's anything outside of posting your progress that you need to say, feel free to use the other thread to do so.

Good luck everyone, and I look forward to seeing your progress so far. For the Emperor!

OK, here is a re-post of my entry for this month.

Army : - 2000pt Averland Empire

Units : - 20 x Halberdiers w/ full command (Von Kragsburg Guard)
Great Cannon

Build/Conversion : - Halberdiers extensively kitbashed, most of the heads are from the pistolier set, all plastic halberd poles removed and replaced with longer brass rods

Background/Theme : - The mercenary Von Kragsburg Guard are the merchants' choice for protecting cargo on supply routes throughout the Empire. Their martial prowess is as legendary as their lust for gold and glory.

Painting - nothing fancy, standard GW

Basing - Sand, Scorched Brown, Vermin Brown, Bleached Bone, Static Grass, bases edged in Vomit Brown

Highs - The freehand on both sides of the banner - Lows - The VK Guard were a nightmare to pose and "rank up" due to the extended halberds

ARMY:Empire (1000 pt)

UNIT: 10 Swordsmen with Duellist, 1 Imperial Lancer (Inner Circle Knight)

BACKGROUND/THEME: Professional Stirland River Patrol army

BUILD/CONVERSION: Cant remember what theyre called right now, essentially added braids over the shoulders and breastplate of the lancer. Pistolier legs, body, and head with knight arms.

PAINTING: Same as before except the horse. The horse skin was painted with bootstrap leather and several layers of highlights and shades.

BASING: Same as before

STILL TO DO: Need to paint the knights shield, base him, and give a second flock coat to the swordsmen movement tray.

HIGHS AND LOWS: No real lows except the horse taking a while to paint. I really like the way the horses have turned out though. The Lancer looks pretty much exactly how i wanted.

I finished 18 of Ricco's Republican Guard for this month which is 276 points for a total of 477 points! I am also working on finishing 1000 points for a tournie in late October/November, so I will hopefully be ahead of schedule.

Anyway, here's Ricco:

So, repost of the entries from the main thread seems to be the order of the day, but I'll do even better than that - I think I have managed to take some better photos of my arch lector. Maybe a bit blurrier, but the colours are closer to what it looks like IRL:

Front:
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z207/tpernler/ArchNY.jpg

Side, BIG flashy hammer:

Back with book:
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z207/tpernler/ArchNY3.jpg

And a wip for next month - as the standard wheels seemed too small, enter replacements from the brand new, plastic steam tank!
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z207/tpernler/cannonwip.jpg

And some comments for you fellow imperials:

@Fabius Bile: Looks like a mighty regiment, great banner. Great work managing to "rank" the halberdiers! I like the tracks made by the cannon wheels - great attention to detail.

@Calibretto: Love the colour on that horse, really great brown tone. Also the army already looks impressive in the group shot. It will be great to see the complete army once finished.

@Gargobot: You make red and green fit together - not a small feat! And that WP looks ready for some serious bu-kicking!

@Ego Ninja: Nice huntsmen - I love those minis, a bit retro-looking but still very much up-to-date in design. Kudos for taking on the "white" province - you pull it of really well.

@Dakkapantz: Not much to say but congrats to a beautiful unit. The dark metal contrast in a very good way with the warm yellow. Nice bases too!

I'm making a repost as well for this month's entry... Been having a real busy time with a lot of studying (ok, and drinking, but it's part of the whole thing...) so I REALLY hope october is going to be kinder to me, or I might have to joker, especially since I've got loads of low-point models this month, which will take mucho mucho time. Ah well...

UNIT: 5 Halberdiers, 6 Militia, 1 Helblaster Volley Gun

BUILD/CONVERSION: Lots of bitz swapping, especially for the militia and volley gun crew. Everything is from the empire kits though

PAINTING: Blue is mordian blue up to ice blue, yellow is iyanden darksun highlighted up to golden yellow, washed with gryphonne sepia and highlighted again. Red is just Scab red up to blood red, and skin is bestial brown up to elf flesh.

BASING: Fine sand as a base, with baking soda and PVA for snow.

STILL TO DO: Base the militia, managed to lose my fortress grey somehow. I see on the pics that I've forgotten some details as well on them (eyes on two of them, shield scroll text, beards on the militia), will have to return to them at some point.

Hmm, seems like a lot of Jokers have been played this month.
It's a little paradox but I'd feel silly commenting on everyone's work individually.
So, well done everybody! There are some really great pieces among this month's work.
See you next month. :)

Very low activity in this thread - What are you empire fellows up to? Everything under controll?

I you want to, take a look at my previous post - I'd be happy to recieve comments/opinions on the use of wheels for my great cannon.

@BeatTheBeat: Great interaction between the militia members - it's not only the enemy that's in for a rough fight, obviously... Is the Helblaster done? Seems to be a lot of unpainted black areas.

My Knights Panther are coming along nicely - as you only get 6 for your 200 pts, I'm putting a lot more effort into them, compared to a 20 strong unit of infantry.

Also, between painting sessions I am converting up a unit of militia to use as a detatchment. To fit with my Averland theme, the unit is made up from Gamekeepers and Gardeners from Marius Leitdorf's own family estate. My idea is, Leitdorf had one of his mad ideas to train up his own defense force for his family home, giving them lavish uniforms and headgear, but making them use their own work tools as weapons! So, I have converted a few of them, one is armed with a scythe, another with a spade, but I am particularly proud of the guy with the scratchbuilt hoe, the guy with a trowel and hand fork, but most of all the guy with a pair of shears!

One question regarding the great cannon - OK you are using Steam Tank wheels for it, but did you order just the sprue with the wheels on, or do you have a Steam Tank, and if so, what wheels will you use on it? Normal cannon wheels would look small, causing the back of the tank to sit low.

I'm feeling inspired this month and have already painted half my entry for next time - 5 Pistoliers. I have assembled the other half - a Helstorm/Helblaster Gun. I have magnetised them so they can be swapped around if I want to switch easily.

I will post WIP pictures later on...

@ Dark Apostle - yeah, it's done, it's supposed to be black, though I've realized the highlights are too dark, and the photos are almost removing them all. I'll go over it with more highlights later on, as soon as I get the time (and remember it - at the same time ;)).

ebay would be the asnwer to your question. Still pretty exepnsive to buy just the wheels (since the kit is new, demand is high and the prices rise) but much cheaper than the whole stank. And there will be another Great cannon as well and buying two kits just to get the wheels - well, let's just say I don't have that much money :)

Black is cool, just very hard to show in photos. To make it pop you could use brown (i.e. bestial brown) in the recesses - gives some patina and also makes the black less black, if you understand what I mean. Kind of an inverted outlining.

It has been rather slow around here comparatively hasnt it? Things always seem to slow down the 3rd month as people peter out a little and others drop. Lets try to keep the enthusiam in here though!

@Fabius Bile: I love the ranked up halberd regiment, how you managed to rank them so nicely is beyond me, i can barely rank up swordsmen! I really like the whole cannon mini diorama as well, did you ever consider putting some sort of mud effect on the cannon wheels? The gardener wips are awesome :D

@Gargobot-the Handgunners look ace, the contrast really helps the details stand out. I like the Warrior Priest as well but his skin seems a little rough in comparison.

@Ego Ninja-The huntsmen look good, the dirty white and brown are very fitting on them. I also like several of the poses.

@Dakkapantz-Very striking color combination, they look imposing!

@Dark Apostle-Very sharp Arch Lector, the colors pop very well. The book and scroll are very well done. The red in the scar and under the lip look a little light though, i may have chosen a darker color. The larger wheels are very appropriate for a cannon, i look forward to seeing what you can do with it.

@Beatthebeat-I really like your creativity in your units, putting together little scenes. The black on your Helblaster was confusing as it looked unfinished but it sounds like your camera just missed my highlights.

@everyone who commented on my work-I know my troops are uninspiring but they look fine as an army and i fully intend to go back and bring their level up to par later on. Right now i just want to get them painted. Thanks for the compliments on my knights/horses-im happy with how their turning out and have been spending more time on the knights themselves since theyre a small important unit. The horses take a lot of time but theyre worth it to me. Ill see if i can get pics of my second knight up this weekend since the other 4 are my unit for this month.

Well, here's my copy of this month's work from the main thread:

UNIT: General & 10 Huntsmen

BACKGROUND/THEME: Nordland army

BUILD/CONVERSION: I'm not much of a converter so both mini's are straight from the box. Actually this is not quite true for the general because in fact I got him from a trade this month (thanks Harry!).

PAINTING: Went for vibrant blues and yellows (Enchanted Blue and Golden Yellow highlights). Huntsmen are predominately brown so as to more fulfill their Scouting role.

BASING: Pretty simple. I did change the base rim colour from Snot Green to Graveyard Earth (as some of you guys kindly advised last month).

STILL TO DO: Finished. Maybe add a shield to the General.

HIGHS AND LOWS: A definite high for me is the general. I really like that mini, and think I gave it a decent paintjob. Might add a shield later (same as my swordsmen from month one), but I am still undecided on that one. The huntsmen were painted up pretty fast, but they look good to me, especially the pheasant (RIP). I also tried a new technique painting woodgrain on the bows... not really sure if I like it but they are staying as they are :-).

POINTS : General with Heavy Armour & Great Weapon on Barded Warhorse (113) + 10 Huntsmen (100) = 213 pts.

TOTAL POINTS : 195 + 213 = 408 pts.

DICE ROLL : 5

The General (Old Marius Leitdorf model):
http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/uu133/Matrim__Cauthon/EMP-ElectorCount.jpg

The Huntsmen:

And a picture of the Swordsmen with the new base rim colour and shields:
http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/uu133/Matrim__Cauthon/EMP-Swordsmenv2.jpg

Comments up till now have been rather good, except one that says the bases are awful. Come to think of it I am not the biggest fan either, but is sure is a quick way for a (at least to me) decent finish. Anyhow, I will maybe try some new basing technique for my next armies, but I'll be sticking to this method for these (both Empire and Dark Elves). What do you guys think?

I will be commenting on the rest of you empire guys soon!

honestly.. i've been so busy this month with switching jobs and working in town fulltime now, all my extra time that i use to have has just gone the way of the do-do.. i'm barely keeping up with painting, but i have indeed finished 10 slayers and a hero for my slayer list, ahead of myself and 8 (final 8) ironbreakers and i'm starting on my 10 halberdiers :) just primed them yesterday.. good to see everyone is still keeping up too.. a drastic number gone or leaving in the main tale, so lets show em what we're made of here in the empire :)
good luck everyone!

Cool - glad you like them! I had fun putting them together. I got the idea from the Heraldry of the Empire book - there's a picture of a militia man armed with a hoe, and it seemed to me the sort of insane idea that Marius Leitdorf would come up with. As for the cannon wheels, yes I will be dirtying them down at some point, but I intend to take a bit of time over it as yellow cannon wheels are a pain to paint in the first place, I don't want to ruin them!
I'll probably do all the weathering together when I have finished all my war machines - still got a hellblaster and a Steam Tank to do yet. I'm not entirely sure what a Steam Tank would look like in Averland colours!

Havent seen any posts in several days, is everyone coming along with their October entries? Ive been so busy with my college classes (especially Russian, man that takes some time), work, and family ive only managed to finish a second knight. I do have the 3 other horses at least started though. With how long they take ive got to get a move on though. Ive also been working on a Handgunner to show everyone what they'll look like when theyre completely done, as opposed to mostly just basecoated like the ones ive shown so far. I look forward to seeing everyones entries, hopefully we dont have any more casualties!

@ Fabius Bile-Thats cool, ive had a flip through that book but dont own it. Doing all the weathering at once makes sense to me. I still have both my artillery pieces to paint which i look forward to after all the horses and infantry.

Thought I would pre-post this month's painting (actually Augusts project set aside and completed in October). This is the old grey and bronze color scheme of my army and am just shifting to a new scheme of yellow and blue. New scheme in my first post on the main TOFP thread (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showpo...0&postcount=50)

This is a collection of 6th and 7th ed swordsmen to make a block of 30. These look a little shabby compared to some of the great jobs posted here, but aim to learn model by model.

Any tips on banners would be appreciated. I need to figure out an approach that works better than what I've been doing but doesn't go way beyond my current skill level. The banner here is intended to show the names of all the departed heroes from this regiment since it was established.

Calibretto

Well I just started the horses/ponies for my Knights, so I'm afraid I'll have to joker this month. Though I did just put the Fellowship in the DVD-player to throw on the painting turbo.
Anyhoo, everyone's work so far looks great as always, especially yours Calibretto, looks like you've improved your painting more than a little.

I need a little translation help with the fluff for my Knights.
In the heraldry book, on the Hochland page there's talk of an incident in 2510, some Hochlanders saved the Emperor from a Beastmen raid. The German edition refers to this as the "Schlacht der Klagenden Schlucht", I was wondering what the English name is.

I just put that line into a German to English translation engine, and the literal translation is "Battle of the complaining ravine". I've been using a translator for some scrollwork I'm putting on my Knights banner, in latin.

Thanks, but I'm interested in the "real" name of the place.
I'd rather translate it with "moaning" if it's meant ghostly or "wailing" for grief. But I'm looking for the "official" name, maybe it's even the same since many places in the Empire have (sort of) German names.
I want to name my Knights for this incident "Saviors of (place)".

Oh, latin translator? The google one, or some other fancy engine?

Fabius Bile
22-10-2009, 07:26

@Jim: Nice painting! Is that a magnet that shos on the unpainted crew memeber to the left? And does that mean you'll make alternate arms to go with it depending on what war machine he'll go with?

Well spotted!...I have two options, the arm with rocket for when I use the Helstorm, and the arm with the...er...fluffy plunger  for when I use the Helblaster.

Not sure how well I have done the magnets on the arms as there are a bit smaller area to work with. I'll decide once painted and get your opinion on them.

Cheers for the comment.

Cool! I have finished my test model for my troopers - grey and white as befits Wissenland, but not at all boring methinks:

Lesson learned: don't paint 8 minis at once when trying out a new painting scheme... really annoying when you realise you need to change some of the colours and have to repaint the whole batch :eyebrows:

They are the really old ones wearing empire clothing. If any one has some and would be willing to sell them pm me.:) Id love to put them in my halfling spearmen units as a eye grabber or even use them as a dogs of war unit. Heres a link from stuff of legends to show you what Im looking for. http://www.solegends.com/marauder/mm41ogres.htm

I'm about halfway through October's workload now... "Just" a cannon + crew and five halberdiers to go! I'll probably have to cheat and paint up another wizard to make up the points though, whether I manage the last five halberdiers or not, as I'm a few points behind ATM. Everybody's work looks great this month as well, good to see there's still a few keeping up ;)

Nice work BeatTheBeat! The blue & yellow looks great (go Sweden!) and the red details contrasts nicely. I can see how cannon + crew + 5 halberdiers could be hard to finish within the coming week, but wizards are always cool. Any plans for the next one? Will it look somewhat like your previous (which is cool)?

One thing though, it looks like you've managed to glue sand all over their feet... intentionally to make them look like they've been marching for some time, or by mistake? Personally I think weathering can be great, but I would probably have tried to achieve it by drybrushing on some shade of brown rather than use actual sand (at least for the troopers - war machines is another issue).

BeatTheBeat
27-10-2009, 12:23
Thanks! :) The next wizard will be themed as a priest specialised in poxes and diseases - so lore of death or life. If you've ever seen a picture of a swedish priest around the time of "digerdöden", you should know what kind of look I'm going for, black robes and mask with oversized, long "nose". I'll post pics as soon as I'm done with the converting, just his hood to go now!

As for the sand on the feet, it's just excess sand which had not been wiped away yet - they were sanded just before I took the pics. That said, however... Yeah, I've probably managed to get some glued on their feet as well! I try to cover those spots up though :)

Nice! I keep getting surprised by the fact that red and green actually work as a combo... Will you use him as an engineer, or just as the commander of the gun grew? I like the purple gem on his chest, but the ring of his finger could use some outlining to show better.

@ Darkapostle: Your standard bearer is amazing!!!

Thank you, qiute some effort went into that one. The only thing I'm not happy with is the handle of his mace. It took some hits during the painting process and has become bent in several places. The problem is that it's too thin, and I had to pin it to the hand - the pin is almost as thick as the handle, meaning that the "walls" are extremely thin. All of you that have the new goldswords will know what I mean . take the spare axe that you get with the kit, and imaging trying to drill a hole in that handle...

Anyway, what's the general oppinion of the posters in this thread - do we need a new thread for november WIP, or shall we continue on this one? After all, it's only 3 pages so far

That's that decided then! Here is a repost of my entry for this month:

Army; 2000+Pts Averland Empire

Unit: 6x Knights Panther of the Inner Circle with full command group

Points = 196

Total Points so far: 681

Background - After the defeat of Caliph Jaffar in the terrible crusades against Araby, a unit of the newly created Order of the Knights Panther pursued the broken remnants of the Caliph's forces through the Dark Lands, to the southern edge of the Steppes, where they made their final stand against the gallant horsemen of the Emperor. This futile gesture was crushed mercilessly under hooves and lancepoints. The stench of blood attracted the most fearsome hunting cats the Knights had ever seen, and soon they were fighting for their lives as the tigers developed a taste for manflesh. The handful of survivors from the horrific attack skinned the tigers, and returned home to tell their tale, adorned with the hard earned trophies.

Build/conversions - nothing fancy, just replaced the banner for the old style state troop banner.

Highs - enjoyed the painting

Lows - the models themselves are very poor, by modern standards of plastic miniatures - seriously overdue a revamp.

Sorry to hear about the theft - really depressing. I think there's a few of us that will believe you've painted what you said, but it could be a problem of course if you don't get a new camera for the rest of the tale. 16-11-2009, 02:51
Hey guys!

It's been a strange couple of months. New baby, promotion at work, traded my DE for some WoC, and completely lost my steam with the Empire. The strangest part was that I still loved the models, I just didn't enjoy playing with the army. Those that know me here know that winning games is of little consequence, so the fact that I rarely won with them really didn't bother me much. I just never had much fun with the mechanics of the army.

So I started painting them up again recently...as "Bretonnians". Now before you all cry "heresy" I still consider them Empire, as I'm still using all my Empire models. I just wanted a different play style (which I'm having a blast with, by the way) and enjoyed the idea of a crusading Empire force. I've consolidated all of my troops into large Men-at-arm blocks, which gives them the appearance of a hastily assembled peasant/ retired soldier crusading force. So I still plan on continuing with my all corners approach, it will just be a crusading all corners approach.

So the question I submit to the painters of the empire support group is this: may I remain here, or should I hop over to the Bretonnian support group? Either way I'll lurk around here, I'll just post my progress over there.

Everything is looking great this month!

Jim, that's some of the best use of those plastic fences I've ever seen! Very grimdark. It reminds me of a cloudy day in a field somewhere. Great work.

Dark Apostle, I have so many questions I don't know where to start. I suppose I'll limit myself to just one per post. First, what was your color progression for the red on your banner?

Dark Apostle

Dark Apostle, I have so many questions I don't know where to start. I suppose I'll limit myself to just one per post. First, what was your color progression for the red on your banner?

First of all, congrats to the baby and the promotion. Glad you found new inspiration using the bretonnia rules - after all, having fun is what it's all about, so who cares about doing things "by the book" (that is, the empire book :p) anyway? At least in friendly games it shouldn't matter at all, as long as both sides hav a good time.

Now to your question. The red is painted like this: base with Mechrite red, wash with Badab black, paint Scorched brown in the recesses for extra definition, reapply Mechrite to the raised areas. Then comes the magic step - glaze with Red Gore (both recesses and raised areas). Highlight with Blood Red, give it another glaze with Red gore. If you want it even darker, give it a glaze of Chaos black, or simply a couple of additional glazes of Red gore.

Give it a go - it's actually fairly simple even if it sounds like quite a fw steps. The best part is that you can actually be quite sloppy in the first few steps, the glaze will sort it all out. Good luck with your Empire/Bretonnian army - and fel free to post progress here aswell - the mini's still belong to the empire, right? Even if they choose to fight in a non-conventional style :)

I'm still here! I'll re-post the better set of pics here:

Army - 2000+pts Averland Empire

Units - 10 x Militia (Leitdorf's Own Gardeners and Gamekeepers)
1 x Hellstorm Rocket Battery

Points - 165

Total Points so far - 846

Background - "Mad" Marius Leitdorf was infamous for his eccentric ideas. One of his more unusual notions was to put his own household staff through mock military training. The staff were immaculately uniformed, but had to fight with the equipment required to do their jobs. This meant that the Gamekeepers were happier with their lot than the Gardeners were. That said, a pair of shears can still make a mess of an unfortunate enemy!

Build/Conversions - weapons for the Militia, also removed one rocket from a rail, so that the crewman is reloading it. I scratchbuilt the bunker for the Rocket Battery using Plasticard and car body filler.

Highs - All the building, conversion and painting was very enjoyable.

Lows - Just the photography, which is not up to the usual standard due to a complete lack of decent sunlight, so I had to take pictures indoors under florescent lights.

I bought a very economical unit of knights off ebay a couple of months that sadly had much more breakage than the pictures showed. I'm thinking of converting them to circus performers turned knights. Are you just skipping eyes on your guys? I like the pistoliers as well but the horses look rushed, just a dark mass.

Thanks, Calibretto! that's a cool idea for the tattoos, I imagine that gives them a bit more contrast? I will try it out and see how it looks.

I am a little hesitant to paint the eyes on these guys, because when you do it weong they end up looking worse then without!:D I will need to get some practice and a new detail brush first anyway.

And the horses are not finished, just washed. I could never leave a model like that!:D

Cheers and can't wait to see your greatswords,

Peyton

When I do eyes I add the white as best as I can with my finest blush, dot the eye with a fine pen or toothpick, and then go back to my fine brush and skin color to clean up.

Hard to mess up and pretty fool-proof :)

Whoops, missed the wip part! Sorry about that! What Malorian suggests for eyes are good suggestions. And i agree that they look better with no eyes than crappy eyes but you never get better if you dont try ;)! The outlining will definitely give the tatoos more contrast but more than they'll provide a more clear delineation between the skin and the tatoos.

Hi guys,

apologies for my absence over the last couple of months - I'm afraid the painting bug utterly desrted me for a couple of months. However I'm back in the groove again and been painting loads -see this months main thread for pics of Empire #captain and a Stank. I've started work on some handgunners and the old marauder captain on pegasus for March.

I also want to make a couple of 100% plastic Warrior Priests using empire kits or others. Can anyone suggest a cool combo of bits that would look good?

Cheers!

Flagellant bodies cut at the waist, armoured torso from great swords or pistoliers. Heads should be no problem, just pick one that you like (allthough you'll have to sculpt the circlet if you want one). For arms, well, try the free company spues, hammer can be found on empire as well as on dwarf sprues. Random accesoiries from the flagellant sprue.

Happy converting!

Seems I forgot to post my army shot in the main thread, so I figured I'd post it here!

Coming along nicely I think... I left room for a unit filler in the halfling spears unit, buffing it to 25 (including the three dogs you should be able to see on the picture). The base for the greatswords is also made to include another 10 which are on their way!

Now I'm off to assembling a steam tank. That's actually the first time I had to take a look at the 'construction manual'... a whole lot of parts there :-).

Keep up the good work everyone!!

Having stuck one together last month I can definately reccomend using the instruction manual!!!

I painted the main body, rear wheels, rear piston arms, boiler stack & engineer separately and stuck them together afterwards.

It would be tricky to get to all the detail otherwise...

If you wanted to you could decide not to glue down the top plate on the main body - that way you could lift it off to show off the detailed interior.

I did not do this on mine as I couldn't face the extra detail painting!!!

@ Dark Apostle: Sweet - I'll give it a go and post some pics.

I have painted quite a lot on the sprues and assembled everything already except for the two sides and the top... I painted the interior but not up to a very good standard, so I think I'll glue it together anyway :-). Thanks for the tip though!

Great work Matrim_Cauthon, I see you already painted one of the current wizards, did you assemble him fully or painted him in parts. I'm just wondering because the inside of the robes is still visible when glued but very hard to reach. I'm struggling at the moment how I want to go on about that. Any advice you might share?

Thanks! I painted him complete, but wouldn't do it again. The insides are very difficult to reach (though not impossible). So my advice would be to paint the inside first before assembling :).

I have the same problem with my wizards (probably the reason why I have four partially painted ones), but I'm not sure painting the inside before assembling will be a better option, as the back of the cape needs quite a bit of work to fit together properly.

Hey all, my first post in this Empire support thread... Lovely to see so many empire armies in the TOFP!

I would like some opinions on my mounted captain. I used the Green Knight model and trimmed off as many fleur de lys as possible and painted him in my averland colour scheme. While there are many character models for empire i am not too keen on the amount of skulls and "i love karl franz" on them, so i tried out the green knight that i had lying around anyways.

I quite like the converted green knight - although he appears to be leaning back a little - which is apparently the wrong response to a rearing charger. I agree with your comment on the cluttered models for the empire heroes and other new models. I doubt I'ld carry 3 skulls, 4 swords, a book, an hourglass and wear 3 scrolls if I didn't have to.

Question: What have people used for empire dragons? A quick search on warseer didn't turn up much.

Matrim_Cauthon

@gsmc: I'm not planning a dragon, but the High Elf one seems most easily convertible.

I have just finished a unit filler for my Halfling Spearmen. Well actually a couple of fillers. First of all the 'pony with cart' that came with BFSP. I put a treasure chest in it along with a spare shield. Second were a couple of dogs I had lying about from my Mordheim warbands. Buffs the unit to size 25, and adds some character (I think ;)).

Here are the pictures of the pony apart and in the unit (with custom made movement tray by the way):

Thanks! Nope, the Halflings are all Black Hat Miniatures (http://www.blackhat.co.uk/). Very nice sculpts, great castings, reasonable price and fast shipping. I recommend them :).

Hello fellow Empire painters!

Special Month 7 Bonus Content: As well as painting my Empire Captain on Pegasus and 10 handgunners I've also done some basing stuff...

I was in Brighton last week and popped into a shop there called Wargames Heaven which is a good looking hobby shop with a large area for gaming and painting and also had lots of alternative companies proiducts which was intersting for me as where I live only really has a GW store nearby.

I picked up a magnetic basing kit from The Army Painter - this included 25 magents and metallic sticky tape. The idea is you put the tape on the base of your moevement tray and glue the magnets to the underside of your models bases. That way you can still remove casualties but models will not fall over if you pick them up or knock them accidentally:

http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x209/14177L/Empire%20Army/Empire31011.jpg

So it means that you can pick them up without them overbalancing and falling over:

http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x209/14177L/Empire%20Army/Empire31013.jpg

...and even do this!:

http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x209/14177L/Empire%20Army/Empire31014.jpg

I'm so impressed I'm going to order more and base all my units like this - great idea.

Magnetic basing is great - I plan to use it for my armies as well someday - but the kits from Army Painter are a rather expensive option.

Dakkapantz

Magnetised bases are indeed awesome! All of my models are magnetized, but I use rare earth magnets and just put a sheet of metal over the movement tray. You can also challenge your opponent to a game upside down!:D

Hello Empire players!

Month 10 Bonus Content: Arch Lector on War Altar :cheese:

I've painted waaay too many characters for the tale this year, but they have been useful treats for me to do after painting large blocks of infantry!

Build: The Altar is based on the standard Grand Theogonist kit availale direct from GW...I swapped out the horses for Bretonnian ones (I got this idea from a picture of someones Altar on the net which looked much better than the old empire ones), I replaced the Golden Griffon with a statue from the Shrine kit and used the Warrior priest from the collectors range. There are various braziers, candles, bells, etc... from various kits to bling it up as well...

Hope you guys like it!

Great Waltar, one of the nicest I've seen. Nice idea to change the griffon for a statue, suddenly the altar doesn't look so old-fashioned anymore.

Indeed, the griffon looks a bit silly.
Very nicely done.
