With 2500 points painted already, yes, I think I will continue with that army. :cheese:

Probably. Although WFB is kinda like that crazy ex gf that you have good memories about until you remember what she did to your wallet and your belief in the application of Logic.

Until I saw Queek - No.
Now... All bets are off, damn but that's nice looking deranged Rat...

I might buy the new Doomwheel just to play around with, but outside that I won't be making an army. The models are nice looking though

EmperorNorton
07-10-2009, 22:47
Yes for me, I'm afraid.
Maybe this time I'll manage to do it sensibly, like buying a unit per month, instead of 4000 points all at once...

No for me - I've got too many armies and not enough money.

No ty, fantasy needs some serious work before i ether dig out ether of my 2 armies or start a new one.

Yes, definitely, been wanting to do Skaven for ages, was just waiting for the clanmonkeys tto be updated!

07-10-2009, 23:59
I probably will make a small Eshin force, but a full blown army, probably not as I just sold all my clanrats.

Areku
08-10-2009, 00:04
As I already have an army for Skaven, I plan on continuing it!

I think this is a very inappropriate question. I'm not sure if I'll report this or not.

Careful now, reporting this question might lead to a team of Gutter Runners emerging from the sewers in the dead of night to kill you! Clan Eshin is sneaky like that.

Im not sure what you mean.
I play with friends and my brothers and we have begun to find 40k really boring but fantasy has some of the most funny and exciting moments ever.
Especially artillery.

Anyway onto the topic.
Despite saying I disliked the new clanrats, i love the other new models specially the characters.

I have always loved Skaven and a new book might be the motivation I need to make an army.

Ive used Goblins for a while with huge success against my brothers cannon heavy dwarfs but I think its time for a change, a squeeking change.
Whose the character with the awesome cloak which swings in the air, if a new plastic warlord model doesnt come out, id like to use that.

Yes-yes! I am keep-saving my precious metal-tokens for mighty beasts of Clan Moulder!

Sounds like Deathmaster Snikch to me.

God help me on the day I actually sit down and try to figure out how much I have spent over the last 20 years on WH.

If they change the Warplightning Cannon as rumored I will miss firing through my clanrats and slaves just to hit units farther down field!

Contrary, I will not miss a S10 48" misfire obliterating my Grey Seer and his Bell on turn one...

Hey guys

What is the best way to get the new skaven book on release day?

order from GW or some other site?

Yeah...not really a fan of playing as a smelly squishy rat.

Alathir
08-10-2009, 03:20
Yes for me, I play High Elves and Bretonnians and the loathsome ratmen used to be my most hated army. But their hilarious personality, swathes of character and awesome new models have completely won me over. I've been debating what my 3rd army should be for quite some while, I knew it needed to be an 'evil' army and that it needed to be very different from my existing armies... so Skaven fit the bill completely - plus, I get to come up with hilarious background for them which is a nice plus.

Yeah...not really a fan of playing as a smelly squishy rat.

But apparently you are a fan of playing as a smelly squishy lizard? Well, skinks are squishy at least. :p

I will probably get the new Skaven, though I may not start building the actual army til next year - depends on how my purchasing is going. There are a lot of other hobbies of mine that are pouring out new releases this autumn/winter and they may win out.

No Skaven army for me, my High Elves take up all my warhammer time nowadays.

I think this is a very inappropriate question. I'm not sure if I'll report this or not.

Beat me to it :o

OP: As skaven are the only fantasy army that genuinly interests me I can safetly say that I will be using them.

I love the new models and the options that they have are just crazy. That is one main reason I am going to make a Skaven army. My very first army book I bought was Skaven. So they have that little place in my heart that just say Go for it. Plus, I haven't actually built a full army yet so I have a chance to go with stuff that I want without worrying about other armies.

Angelwing
08-10-2009, 07:52
I will probably buy a couple of the new character models, but to be honest I won't be adding anything significant to my army.

Weemo
08-10-2009, 08:01
thanks for the replies, ofc i will be doing them, i used to hate skaven, the whole skrye gunline thing but now it looks like there will be much more versatility. and the models oh THE MODELS!

Tringsh
08-10-2009, 10:58
I'm not going to but don't get me wrong, if I was a skaven player I would be very happy.

Since I've seen the new models it looks like it's going to be hard not to 'do' the new Skaven,

(what a highly crass thread title, there's no decorum in this forum!)

No way, I have better things to do in life than paint an endless supply of fur :p. Besides, I just don't like skaven.

Prokrustes
08-10-2009, 11:16
I definately want to do the new skaven army, with all its versatility funky tactics ect. Awesome models and rules as far as I heard. However, the amount of time and money needed for me to build up such an army makes me cringe, not to mention the transport problems of so many models. So there is the distinct possibility that for the sanity of my wallet and my mind, Ill start TK instead. *hides*

I may delay my High Elves long enough to finish off the Skaven force that I started in 5th Edition. The allure of painting a "messy" army that will be easier to make table-ready than my clean-lined High Elves is undeniable. On the other hand, I haven't seen the inside of a gaming store in over two months, so it's kind of difficult to justify the purchase right now. What I'll probably do is grab the book, inventory my existing collection and see how much mileage that I can get out of the new Battalion box. If that brings up around 1,500 points, I'll snag a new Vermin Lord (assuming that's actually a thing that is going to happen) and be all set.

I was planning to get some from the few preview shots we'd seen and I still plan to. I wont be getting an army, I'll turn them into necron cultist pawns.

I voted "hell yes".

TheSil
08-10-2009, 13:52
Up to now Skaven have always been one of my least advanced armies with only about 200 models (which sounds enough but isn't really for skaven)
With the new book and those nice models I feel this is going to change

I am more than happy to add a few more hundred of them including some of the new cool machines that get released now and in any future releases...

count me in on anything new :)

I've already got a skaven, army, so yes, this will by my first seventh edition army book (I haven't played seventh edition vampire counts yet)

08-10-2009, 14:11
Skaven were my first fantasy army (and still my favourite) So I'll definantly be getting them. PLaying is another matter as I rarely get chance to game, and often it has to be 40k. Then theres BFG and Epic we also enjoy to try and fit in.

I have a Skaven, O+G, Beastmen and V.C. army now. since 6th ed. Skaven are the only army I've played more than a few times. Beastmen played once, O+G about 3 times and never used V.C. yet. Oh - and I've not played 7th yet either - but now I hear there's another bloomin update to rules.

Brotheroracle
08-10-2009, 16:00
I like the models but I'm not interested in the skaven. Plus with beasts just around the corner I'm waiting before I drop beaucoup dollars on a new army. And if Chaos Dwarfs ever get a new army book I'd rather play them as my evil engineering army.

Spike Fiend
08-10-2009, 16:33
Aye, as my first army after my old Orcs & Goblins Horde! (:
However, I'll wait and see if the new rules are as entertaining as the old ones...

I don't play Fantasy but if I did...those are some damn sweet figures I'd probably start a Skaven army.

I'll be using my old Clan Rats as Slaves and getting plenty of the new Clan Rats.

Not sure about the Stormvermin, but the new Character models are nice even though I already have the classic models (which are also awesome).

My CC will hate me :(

I don't blame her, however, I will admit I laughed. I however, fully intend on using green jelly beans for warpstone counters during my first few games. Need to use a counter? Just eat it and there's no more confusion!

Of course I'm going to expand my force.

Nope i am waiting for the new BoC book and no way will i be able to put a Skaven army together before that comes out. I will stash my gaming funds until then. :D

Areku
08-10-2009, 19:55
With all the minis to be built, painted, etc, I think it'd almost be easier to use real rats for battle...

MasterSparks
08-10-2009, 20:06
I won't be playing them myself but I know a guy who will. I look forward to seeing their updated rules actually and those new Stormvermin models have me looking a bit envious... :)

Undercoat brown! Drybrush fur in lighter brown, drybrush weapons/armour in metal, drybrush tail in bleached bone
Fix up some details if you want (you still have time for eyes, teeth and a bit more colour on the clothing if you want)

you will be done in no time

at least that worked for the old rats, the new ones seem to have a bit more detail but well...
still I would say one day is enough for 40-50 rats or so

After my last Skaven army was stolen, and eBayed i have been waiting a long time for this book, and these minis to come out to get me back into the game. I like what I've seen, and read so far so only a "yes-yes!" I'll get the book for sure, and figure it out for sure from there. If Skaven look to be over, or way under powered I'll wait for BoC to decide though.

New Army Syndrome. :wtf: I never buy a new army when it is released. I'll wait and buy between editions if I'm truly interested.

Lady Melisandre
09-10-2009, 20:17
I've been truly interested in the new Skaven since 7th Ed came out. The 6th Ed army book desperately needed a re-write, I was sick of SAD and couldn't stand the existing clanrats.

After a LONG wait it seems my beloved rats are back with new minis I *like*, rules that look promising rather than SAD and more unit options than you can shake a handful of warpstone at.

Gotta love those power-hungry, backstabbing, techno-crazy, hilarious rat-things.

Yes I'll be starting/continuing my Skaven army.

You should ask yourself "Who takes the time to click on the thread and vote in the poll?" It's a fair guess that they're interested in skaven, so the voter selection is flawed right there.
