View Full Version : How many BFG players are here?

And how often do you play?

I play about once a week. I have a Space Marine and Ork fleet and will probably expand to the Imperial Navy within a year.

I play whenever I can. My group has slacked off lately.
I have an Eldar fleet.

NakedFisherman
19-01-2006, 04:10
Never played against Eldar, although my friend wants to get an Eldar fleet. Seems like weapons batteries really clobber them -- am I right?

I have not played in a while - however I am being the ref for a campaign right now that involves about 10 players. I have an Imperial Navy fleet and I am working on a Space marine one.

Exarch
19-01-2006, 04:25
Yes, they do, but the Eldar have the speed to stay out of range or behind terrain most of the time. They're hard to hit because of the holo field, but
when you do you'll see how fragile their ships are.

NakedFisherman
19-01-2006, 04:33
The lances and Nova Cannon it seems like they can shrug off rather well -- but weapons batteries crit them on a 4+ and the only thing that happens is a column shift.

Over 45cm, through a blast marker, at an abeam escort with Holofields -- still the same, regardless of the Holofields.

How do you deal with other fast fleets like Space Marines?

I play about once a month, when I can get someone to play my box-set imperials against me. I don't get to play others often because I live in the United States, and we only have one GW store to play in for every 500,000 square miles.

Exarch

Not much experience against marines, but against necrons I hit & run
and concentrate firepower. I have trouble against them.
The closest GW to me is an hour and a half away and it's tiny. I play
at a Hobbytown USA 45 minutes away that is VERY supportive of the
club. It hosts RTT's and BFG tourneys and provides enough space for
six game tables 7 days a week.

I play BFG as much as I can. Not a lot though because other people usually play 40k. BFG was pretty much dead until I sparked it again at my club, now atleast 2 others play it (seldomly at most, but it's a start).

~10000pts Imperial Navy
~5000pts Space Marines
~7000pts Chaos

1000 pts of Imperial, 1500 of Eldar Corsair, 1500 of Tyranid, and 5000 of Chaos.

Haven't played in several months. Since GW charges indy stores full retail price for Specialist Games products, and there's no actual GW stores within a 9 hour drive of me, it's hard to find supplies & opponents. :(

Orks are good-looking, but hard (weak?) to play...
I love my orks, though. :)

I got started with BFG back when it first came out; I'd been eagerly awaiting it since the time GW had published the trial rules for it in White Dwarf.

Since I'm a self-avowed lunatic I'll go ahead and admit that I've collected at least a respectable force for all of the available fleets...... and my Imperial and Chaos collections easily top 10K points apiece, with multiple battleships in each (I did mention I'm a lunatic, right?)!

I used to play very frequently, but general interest in my neck of the universe waned badly when GW cut Specialist Games back, and I don't get a game of BFG in as often anymore as there aren't as many opponents interested. (My usual gaming group getting more into playing "Inquisitor" didn't help that, either.)

Got my Slaanesh/Nurgle fleet. 3000 points worth, headed by the carriers Phthirius pubis and Sarcoptes scabiei, accompanied by the Slaughter class cruisers Treponema pallidum, Neisseria gonorrheae and Chlamydia trachomatis, and escorted by the Hepatitis Iconoclast squadron.

I play. Not as often as I'd like(but often as a solo-gamer, eg against myself), but usually a good few teams every couple of months.

I have:
3k Chaos
3k Imperials
~6k Tau(inc some Rogue Traders, Demiurg, SG Tau, FW Tau, Kroot and Nicassar)[This is my personal favourite fleet]
~1k Eldar

I also often proxy my models to play with up to 2000pts(usually) of Dark Eldar, Orks and Necrons.

Best game yet was a lovely one against the Necrons with a 3k Tau Fleet. It was a tense battle and was the closest yet I've come to a defeat whilst using my Tau(which is a good few dozen games), and I've been using them since they first were released as rules during the Eye of Terror Campaign.

The Kor'vattra fought well for that 32.6% Increase in the Empire, I'll say!

bug them to bring their fleets in.

Alot of effort, but *very* helpful. It's the old story at my club, if folks asked about Gothic, they'd be like "Hmm, a few folks have stuff, but you should ask Frank, over there"(me) as I was the only one that really pushed to play continually. Everybody admitted it was a great game, and loved the chance to play, but they were very easy on the old 'Use my shiny new toy-syndrome', thus the things with the best support got the most games. A shame, but it works for GW, and everyone enjoys it :D

I have two fleets, Chaos and Orks and I have owned two others, Eldar and Imperial, of them all I have the most Chaos about 14 cruisers and a dozen escorts, I used to play all the time, I've maybe got 100 or so games in but last year I only played three times and I have yet to get a game in yet this year, I really need to get some more players interested around here.

I have something like 7000 points of Chaos and 3000 points of Imperial Navy.

A couple of months ago I started a one man crusade to get people playing Gothic, prepreparing two 2000 point lists and provinding eveything needed to play. For a couple of weeks everyone wanted to try it, but no onecould be bother to buy fleets of their own and I got fed up playing effectively the same Training mission every week.

I should be getting in a game in a couple of weeks against one of the club vets who missed out on it when it was released. he's very keen, however, so if he enjoys it (and who wouldn't) I could get regular opponent for a change...

And then I boarded a Ork Cruiser with a Ork Warlord on board with my Tau Explorer class battleship. Yah boarding is wicked especially when tau win against orks. And that battle also had bad rolls on both sides.

About 10k of Chaos
4-5k of IN & SM (mostly IN)
5k Eldar

80 - 90% Painted

I fell out of pretty much all gaming almost a year ago. Travel for work, toddler daughter, wife, etc. Real Life bites. Post if you are on Long Island and want a game. 8 x 4 foot table in the basement with plenty of space and "starfield" tabletop ready and waiting.

I have about 2K each of Imperial and Chaos painted up. I also have a few big toys (Planet Killer, Ramilles etc) that I haven't got around to painting yet. Shortage of opponents meant I just couldn't get the enthusiasm up to paint them.

I have recently start playing "A Call to Arms" which is the B5 fleet game. It has quite a similar system although they have dispensed with some of the more tedious elements like the firepower table. I have a soft spot for B5 and think it is a great game. The only downside is that some of the models are not quite as crisp as GW stuff.

i have found rare earth magnets are great for holding your ships to thier bases if that is part of the storage transporting issue.

i have even my Space Marine Battlebarge mounted this way and you know how heavy that is.

i just have to see if i have to order larger ones for my blackstone once i get around to painting it.

for the heavier ships i use a 1.5mm thick by 5mm diam magnet on the base and the ship.

and i took some 5mm O.D. round tubing and cut it to roughly 1" long (maybe longer) and slipped it down over the flying stem (before i sprayed them black) and trimmed them off even with the stem.
then glued the magnet to the stem. had to beef up the stem a little for good glue surface for the larger magnet.

try "Gorilla Glue" or "JB Weld" both reccomended by "K&J Magnetics" where i got the magnets from. and rough up the nickle plating with a file for a little better surface adhesion.

once sprayed black and the ships set on, the bases you cant tell while playing that the stems are built up. and forgot to mention my void Stalker is done the same way.

5000+ of Imperial Navy, 1000+ of Orks and 1000+ of Chaos, all still in progress.

I have a semi-regular opponent, but he's just not very willing to play these days because now that I know the rules better than him and know the strenght and weaknesses of my fleets, I continuously kick his ass.

I picked up several Space Fleet models dirt cheap a few years ago (ok 11 years). I figured that GW would return to space combat with a better system one day.

Fortunately they did, unfortunately the minis are so much better I can't stand it, and I don't have the funds to pick up the new ones.

The Eldar ships look like their flying backwards, and I get a head ache trying to match old models to the new fleet list.

Anyone else been able to integrate the old models into the new game?

hey whats the difference between forge world Tau and the BFG tau other than the new ships...

The Forge World Tau have no official rules, so you can play them different ways depending on how much permission your opponents give you.

1) Use the FW ships as counts-as ships for SG ones. So the Custodian is just a nifty-shaped Explorer, etc. This is the only way that is 100% legitimate.

2) Use the experimental rules & fleet list pdf that SG had on their site for a while. The rules are ok, the fleet list is awkward, and the pdf itself may be hard to find since it got pulled from the SG site.

3) Use the experimental rules published in Imperial Armour 3 (this is the most recent set of rules for the ships) as "allies" in a regular Tau fleet. Again, you'lll need opponent's permission.

4) Use whatever rules you can get your hands on, or create rules with Smotherman if you have to. Put together a fleet that looks reasonable, show it to opponent, and see if he's up for a game.
