I went to my local GW today and picked up these beauties for a 5 :D

built them just now, they are a joy to put together; foure piece models inc the base! The sprue is beautiful and i was lucky to buy some for the "painting competition"

Anway hopefully when Skaven come out then this will turn into a log of sorts, enough ramblings... PICS!

I believe the apropriate term would be ... Schweet!

Or :cheese:

Indeed indeed...

Only 4 peices though? And are these going to be painted up now?

Weemo

its:

body
base
arm
shield

the command may have more but a basic clanrat is a 4 peice model

erm i have to get them sprayed at some point but i will post pics when they are painted ofc

Oh my! Lucky you. Don't forget to use gnoblars and/or night goblins as cheap and highly approriate slaves! ;)

The new clanrats're splendid. I just wish that GW could have altered some bodies to be more "wild", to avoid the Chaos Warrior Syndrome. Still, they certainly look intimidating, marching relentlessly onwards with heavy footsteps, determined to the bitter end. :)

Are you going to get the new funky Doomwheel? I can't say which version I like best (the old or the new one), though the new have that eccentric look of a racing vehicle. If you're gonna get it, don't forget: There must be someone running mad on top of it whilst the Doomwheel rolls off in high speed. ;)

Weemo you are one lucky little rat.

I like the way that you've assembled some to look aggressive and others more suited to back ranks. You've managed quite a variety of poses really for just 2 piece models (the shield not really affecting the pose).

When you post some painted pics could you take a comparison shot with a current, or classic skaven mini - It would be nice to see how they differ in overall size and proportion.

Hurry up! I want to see these!

Me too. From what I can discern with a comparison between the clanrats and their slottabases, they certainly look smaller - 1 point to GW - and the weapons and shields... look as they should do. After being used to 6th edition plastics, it's somewhat of a wonderful amazement to see new plastic packs on par with the artwork and many metal models.

Now hurry-hurry! Eeeek.

I've finally managed to wade my way through the latest skaven thread and I've found an answer to my own question about the scale of the new models, see -

http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=224403&page=15

The scale is actually pretty close to that of a plague monk.

Sorry to go off topic with your thread Weemo, hope this helps anyone else who was interested.

Looking forward to see how you've painted these excellent new sculpts.

Its amazing how when th painted pics were shown alot of people were iffy about them.
But when you see the sperues and models in person they are an absolute delight.

The attached arm and head don't bother me since The heads are easily removable and I plan on making my slaves from the plague monk boxes since they are very appropiate for them.

Get them painted quick-quick.

cheers.

Quick-quick!

I understand why people got a bit upset about the new ones (despite all their 5th/6th ed. plastic flaws, the old clanrats have a lot of wild swarming about them; the new ones, approriately enough, look more tired), but also why nearly everybody will agree upon that the new ones are better, and probably in the top league amongst the infantry packs.

hi guys, i would just like to clarify:

these were bought for the painting comp that my manager is running in store. I.e you pay 1 and you get to assemble and paint a clanrat.

I wanted a few attempts so i asked if i could buy a few more to practise on. The one with the lettering on the base will probably be my entry.

Sorry if this confused anyone :)

I like the effect on the clan rat's armour. How did you achieve that and how long did it take - could it be done 100+ times?

Weemo
16-10-2009, 07:06
hey nemesis:
for the armour i did:

1) dwarf bronze
2) devlan mud
3) black ink (remember to water this down its not like the new washes)
4) thraka green

i think thats right but it was really quick and easy to do :)
