This is my first ever log! And *gasp* it's Lord of the Rings :D

Anyway I've been collecting this army since the rulebook came out, but due to not having anyone in my area to play with the army has been stagnating for a while. However, my interest have peaked again, and I'm hoping to get a small army of Haradrim done before making a Gondor army, so I can let people choose an army and try it out and convince them to play. I'm hoping to make it my 'main' game.

So without further ado.....

Yeah the Halftrolls aren't done at the time of typing, and I'm hoping to get it done pretty soon. After it, it's the Haradrim raiders.

and the main Epic Hero!

though I suspect I won't be using him that often for now, seeing that a 125 hero in a 500 point army is a bit much.

wow!! superb Haradrim army you've painted so far, i really like them. Hey just noticed the lizard on your banner :D reminds me of some of Gaudi's work

Are you sticking to one company or half trolls? or having a few more?

Any plans for cavalry? .....(you mentioned haradrim raiders, not sure if they're cavalry)

Enfid

Thanks!

Gaudi? Not familiar with him. The lizard is meant to be a venomous lizard similar to the Gila monster, hence the 'beaded' texture on the symbol on the banner. Not sure if he got the same inspiration.

I found that in really really small games I'm planning to play (500 points) the trolls eat up a lot of points but can't be relied on all the time, so I'm sticking to one until the army gets bigger. I'll definitely try to max it out (3 companies: 300 points formation!) Plus, they're difficult to paint well.

Yep the raiders are cavalry. The current army doesn't have much offensive power nor fast elements apart from the halftrolls, so some cavalry is definitely needed. EDIT: I mean the halftrolls for the offensive element, not the fast element......

It will be a long while before I get a Mumak done.

First army or just first log? Anyway you've nailed it. Good painting and greatly thought-out colour scheme. I especially like the half-trolls and the lizard banner. :)

Any plans for Khandish mercenaries, Hashari, raiders and Umbar pirates? Also, don't miss out the new Harad models released recently by GW:

My first LotR army, as well as first log, though I've collected several 40k and Fantasy armies and had 6 years of painting experience. I wish the pictures are a bit brighter, seeing as some details are obscured by dark recesses of the model. I'm trying to get better lamps, and hopefully a better camera.

I'm trying to keep it Harad theme as much as possible, though I might add some Khandish later.

And yes! the new models. The command box interests me (though why they have to make the embossed scorpion symbol, I never know. Now I have to file it away!). The King looks really good too, but he might end up more as a display piece.

Anyway, I just finished the Half troll company!

Sorry for double posting. Need to bump this thread up.

Got the first raider done to make sure I know the anatomy of the model first before mass-painting.

I realize the arrow's feathers need to be black, not bleached-bone, so I'll need to fix that.

Depends. The haradrim warriors I like to paint them in batches of 4 (because two batch makes a company, and painting 8 at a time makes me feel like I'm not making progress), and it takes about 45 minutes for each model. So about 3-4 hours for half a company.

Suladan is a hero, so extra care was needed. I think I spent 5 hours on him.

The half trolls are quite hard to paint well. I think it takes me 2 hours each.

Yeah I know; not the most efficient way to paint a WotR army, but I'll take my time.

Wow I really like these guys. Well done on the colour scheme I always struggle coming up with a scheme that differs from the studio models, that and I still have an unhealthy obsession with red.:D

Is the metal NMM or metal? Its hard to tell on Suladan.

They look good. I have painted many Harad models and to be honest these are lovely as it is a change from my own bleak scheme. Well done again.

*Enfid casts Necromancia Threadis*

It's metallic color, but the varnish I use flatten out the color so that it looks NMM.

The miniatures actually look much better and has more dimension in real life. The poor photography makes the color look really flat. Also, I just use extreme highlight rather than blending, seeing that I'll have to paint hundreds more models. I want to strike a balance between a good-looking army and getting it to the table quick.

As to my progress, I actually have a 500 points Dwarf army painted up now :P I got it painted so I can use both armies to introduce 'proper' WotR to newbies rather than the poor excuse of an army they use to demonstrate at the store (they have something like 250 points of troops, and fill the rest up with 2-3 epic heroes).

I'll show you guys the dwarves when I get the time to take the photos. Same deal, mostly washes and extreme highlights, but more metallic.

Then I'll have to decide between progressing with the Dwarves or the Haradrim. :)

Great job on the Dwarves, I love the blue-grey uniform and the freehand design on the Captain's shield.

Have you done anymore for your Haradrim since?

Your dwarfs looks good too, I just don't like dwarfs in general;)

I really like your haradrim, they trully have an refreshing colour scheme. I wish I could go back in time and paint mine in a different scheme.

And seeing a war of the ring force in this scheme really turn my painting motors on! Keep up the good work with the haradrim ^.^

Hmmm I just like more the old suladan model, and also the haradrim king on steed.

It's Shadow Grey extreme-highlighted with Space Wolves Grey.

I actually finished the Haradrim raiders (3 companies) so I can show you the pictures later.

Now I'm planning on either to make a pure Haradrim themed army with Far Harad support (I don't expect to win too much with this), or expand from that further and make a coalition of Haradrim, Far Harad, Khand, and Easterling, each with an original named character (but maybe represented in-game with Epic heroes rules and models to avoid confusion).

Something like:
King Thajamhud of the Khuli "Stone Lizard" Haradrim tribe.
King Mabhudu of the !kali Far Harad tribe.
Warlord Ghublai the Wolf, leader of the White Wolf Khandish raiders.
Lord Odunaga the Ambitious leading his Easterling warriors.

Needless to say, I'm happy J.R.R. Tolkien never go into too much detail of the "Evil Men" background. That means I can make my own background.

This force is based around the idea that the J.R.R. Tolkien timeline and history is from the Gondorian viewpoint, and colored the "Evil Men" as being wicked people. The idea that the Gondorian had taken advantage of these people in the past but their history omits it. These tribes are independent from The Dark Lord, but want to see Gondor fall all the same. For this reason, Black Numenoreans and Ringwraiths and omitted from the list.

J.R.R. Tolkien fanatics, please don't kill me.

Woohoo, Southrons and Dwarves, some of the very best Lotr models! Had your bearded ones had a spot colour somewhere, such as dark red, they'd have beaten your Haradrim and Mahūdrim, but alas they do not despite having a grey-blue colour scheme.

GW actually made a good job on sketching out Harad, Mahūd and Khand. It was a sketchy job, but gave a convincing impression with Watchers of Karna and whatnots. I like the idea of free Southron forces as much as Sauron's Southron vassals, although to be fair both Gondor and the Southrons have probably given each other hell in their border and naval conflicts, as well as occupations of each other's territories.

Do you plan to expand your Dwarf forces, especially after the release of the Hobbit? There are already Ballistas, Rangers, Vault Wardens, Iron Guards and some nifty character miniatures, and imagine all the stunties that will come this winter! Loads of heroes, Dwarven miners from the Iron Hills and probably other stuff. Not to mention the Gobbos of Mount Gundabad and the Misty Mountains, our arch nemeses. :D
