View Full Version : Return Of A Newb, Painting WHFB, BFG And Maybe More!

I mostly started this plog to get tips, help, as well as C&CC. Let's start with some WIP/finished pictures.

For a while I'll be painting Fantasy, a mix of Goblins, Dwarves and Lizardmen. Soon, I hope to be painting Imperials in BFG, and maybe Nids for 40k.

Note that, no, I will not be basing until I am finished painting. It all.

To start with, a start of a Cold One unit(note that this one is one of the first mini's I did, so it kinda sucks):

A Giant Rat that will later be added to the base of one of my Saurus/Skinks(this just shows you awesome stuff you can do with a pair of clippers), with a weapon going through it, or coming up from it:

Sorry for the crappy pictures.

Question for everyone... Do foundation paints work, pretty much, as a primer, or are they better to just go over primer?

Post 1 cont.
King's Wall from BFSP:
The rocks and grass have yet to be finished, and the whole wall needs to be washed with Devlan Mud. Touchups also need to be done(I happened to screw up a lot on this piece).

Unfinished shield:

My current ice collection(ask me if you want to see individual pictures, I do have them):

My first, as a test piece, Gobbo from BFSP(this was an earlier picture, and thus, much crappier):

Ahhh there it is,
I wouln'd have guesed it would
have been in the random logs.

Yeah, since I'll soon be getting into Battlefleet and I would rather not have to make a second log for that.

I might also get into 40k, and with all that mix... Well, too many logs to keep up really.

I have recently finished a(pretty nice if I may say so myself) Thunderer test piece for my Dwarf army, with some "regallized" freehand on the gun. =D Also will soon finish a Forest Gobbo Spider. I'll take pics pretty soon.

"Do foundation paints work, pretty much, as a primer, or are they better to just go over primer? "

Not really... the primer is there to help the paint stay on better.
foundation is just to help out with the base color as it isn't transparent
like the regular colors.

Your first attempt at the vold one isn't too bad, but it would look better if
you drybrushed the scales with a slightly lighter green...
same goes fo the other colors...

Also you should try out the washes, they realy help with shading and
can make a mediocre paint job look a lot better. ;)

Actually, N810, the scales on the Cold One are a simple Dark Angels washed a couple times with Thraka Green. And I do use washes... On almost EVERY model. I've honestly been too busy today... Hopefully I'll get some pics up by tomorrow. Next, I'll probably try some Gobbo Archers.

Ah ok my bad...

Maybe just a light drybrush of some goblin green or something then..?

I'll probably just remove the Thraka washes. If that doesn't brighten it enough, I'll try the drybrush.
