View Full Version : Heresy-Era Iron Warriors Log

01-11-2009, 22:28
Well this is the start of my new heresy army. I already have my Alpha Legion, but with local talk of replaying this great campaign, I decided making an army to fill in a Legion we had missing last time would be appropriate. So I've done a few good starter models...

Looks great, and heavy as they should be. Nice freehand on that pod, nice chainsword/bolter combi and
the terminator has a good pose and base. Hope to see more :)

nice stuff, and that Terminator is really something i must say.

im also going to have to check out your Alpha Legion.

keep it up, i want to see more.

Got my whole first Tactical squad done.

Next week I am going to order a few Red Scorpion mk4 armour sets and a pair of Iron Warriors dreadnoughts that I am going to convert into Ironclads from FW. So lots of stuff coming up.

Very good work, and you've pulled off that heavy duty feel of Iron Warriors that I so happen to like! The drop pod is great.

As for constructive critiscism, I think there's too much yellow on the models, or rather their helmets and the Terminator's lightning claw. Perhaps you could paint them bronze instead? The black-yellow hazard stripes are just good. :)

It's always nice to see Huron Blackheart showing up in armies -though the yellow trims could once again do better in bronze, or iron. The black stripes' grey outlinings detract from the overall look as well, but since he's W.I.P. I suppose it'll be good as with your other models once finished.

The barricade is just spot on! A must for all Iron Warrior armies, and you've nailed the look completely. I'll point to it when I mean bronze instead of yellow trims would be better. ;)

The Terminator's shoulder pads are well done, to say the least, and their markings are neat. Perhaps it's the yellow helmet and power fist, but there's something that seems to be missing in him. Sorting those two things out could work to get him just right.

Of course, taste varies, but it's nevertheless sweet to see more Pre-Heresy armies up and about - especially Iron Warriors. It looks as though you'll do them complete justice!

Kind regards.

Yeah, these guys look great, lots of hazard stripes! they look excellent. nice helmets on the tac squad aswell.

07-11-2009, 14:59
Wow, you have a nice look to your Pre-Heresy Iron Warriors there - I personally feel that bronze is used too often to contrast with the silver - I really like the yellow! I look forward to seeing more from you - consider me subscribed!

07-11-2009, 15:52
Looking great man! I was very tempted to do some Heresy era Iron Warriors as well, but then I got distracted by all sorts of other stuff! Keep up the good work!

07-11-2009, 16:54
good solid yellow on them. I've always liked iron warriors, they where my first CSM army.

07-11-2009, 17:19
A good start. nice highlighting and a solid yellow colour.

I like these guys a lot; I don't think there's too much yellow on them. The yellow does look a little bright but that could be the lighting setup in the photo? I would maybe put some Devlan Mud over the yellow bits.

08-11-2009, 02:20
Thanks for all the comments guys! The helmets come from the Iron Warrior box that came out way back when, I ordered a mess of them before GW took off bit service.

Here is a cyberneticly enhanced guy I am working on, converted by my friend kings and painted by me. When I field the army as loyalists this unit will be jump pack-less assault marines, but when I play as Chaos it will be a unit of Possessed.

08-11-2009, 02:25
nice looking army dude

08-11-2009, 13:19
I love the look of your army
very great work

09-11-2009, 16:22
Nicely crazy cyber-fighter, and the more hazard stripes the better. :)

An argument for using yellow (except that you probably want to) is that your force would stand out and be personal, and that's important. So go for whatever colour balance you want - it's obvious you'll still cram out high level quality goodness!

Nitpick note: The eye lenses are not up to level with the rest of your painting I'd argue. Perhaps you could try to add a small black area in one corner, dot a tiny prick of Skull White or Mithril Silver in it to look as a light reflection, and paint a thin line of lighter red at the bottom part of the lense?

10-11-2009, 04:19
they are looking nice. cannot wait to see more.

10-11-2009, 04:35
That latest guy looks great, excellent conversion work, and a superb paintjob aswell :)

10-11-2009, 10:10
These look really cool mate, you've done a really good job of capturing the cold and calculating look.

10-11-2009, 13:26

Subscribed for further developments. Very interesting, very well painted stuff. Looks completely different to mine, I went down the "shiney" road rather then chevrons and pure bionic stuff you've done

11-11-2009, 08:28
loving those "assault" marines, really cool idea, must pass that on to my brother who has been looking for ideas of chosen or possessed for his warriors!

12-11-2009, 12:21
WIP of my next tactical squad leader...

12-11-2009, 12:47
These all look rather nice! I find the yellow a little too vibrant, but that's down to preference (I'd stick a thin layer of devlan over it).

Looking forward to the heavy stuff!

13-11-2009, 23:26
Finished the guy above...

And my conversion beamer attack bike is about 1/2 way done...

13-11-2009, 23:31
Conversion Beamer attack bike? It's a jetbike? Now with such weaponry, you're really catching the Iron Warrior's core spirit. Spot-on Squad-leader! The use of Techmarine legs for him will probably go a long way to enhance the whole force's look, and his global look is grandly sweet, too. :)

Once again, good placement of the hazard stripes and the yellow (oh, don't you listen to much to me about that colour - go your own way, it'll end up great for everyone to look at anyway :)).

14-11-2009, 03:36
Finished up my conversion beamer...

14-11-2009, 06:22
Haha. Awesome Stuff mate. All brilliant :D.

14-11-2009, 12:02
That conversion beamer is awesome! Great work so far.

15-11-2009, 00:36
Thanks! Its main gun is made from an Icarus lascannon with a plasma cutter replacing the barrel.

15-11-2009, 08:00
They are looking great, all adding a load of character to the army. great stuff.

16-11-2009, 08:51
How did you get your armour to look so dark?? Coz its the look im trying for for my IW

The armour is thusly;

1. Grey primer
2. drybrush Boltgun metal
3. Devlan Mud wash
4. Badab Black wash
5. Mithril Silver highlights

note: allow the devlan mud to completely dry before adding the badab black...

16-11-2009, 09:06
Nice, the conversion beamer looks really beamy!

17-11-2009, 20:08

18-11-2009, 22:44
