There was a thread about the best Cav units in the game... I was wondering what people consider to be the best Cav army...? I'm always looking for what to do next, and as I usually avoid Cav, I was thinking I should maybe focus on them next (or a shooting army...).

I'm thinking Dark Elves might fit the bill. Good fast cav and good heavy knights. And there's some monsters and skirmishers/scouts to keep up.

Bretonnian - Self explanatory.

Chaos Warriors - Cheap hard hitting lights and medium cav with hard hitting tough heavily armoured marked knights.

Empire- good full plated core knights and stronger inner-circles with pistoliers and outriders as strong range support.

DE - ...not so sure because of stupid cold ones, hardhitting yes but unreliable
heavies, good light cav core support though.

VC - No core light cav (dires wolves doesn't count into core) Being undead, it lacks the flexability of a normal cav army (Feigned flights), other than that, it would make an interesting cav army if only there are core cavs troopers.

Definately not HE - average punch good speed but no core mounted troops.

Lizards - ....stupid cold ones and no core cavs...bad.

Beast of chaos - no core cav, but make a nice themey centaur like cav army if there is.

wood elf - no core cav I think, correct me if I am wrong. But would make a pretty weak all light cav army that looks pretty and specialised in forrest fighting?

O & G - makes a really savage and mostly ineffiective horde cav army that plague by animosity.

OK - erh...hope they don't eat the horse? No core cav anyway and doesn't matter anyway.

Skaven - well... they do run with all fours if they wish too...hmmm...

Dwarfs - Haha! Boink?! My little ponies with ale barrels as their riders?

Bretts, Empire and WoC whould be able to build strong all cav lists. Not sure about DE.

All cavalry armies are set to lose from the start. I play Brets with a cavalry heavy army. I do best when I put ground troop peasants in my lists. What happens when you have way watchers in a building shooting at you turn after turn with killing blow? In a cavalry army you will be laughed at while your troops try to navigate the area without being able to attack the way watchers. Barn dance anyone? Plus difficult terrain is better navigated by skirmishers and knights will be stymied by loss of line of sight when skirmishers flee through the terrain. A cavalry armies look cool but you need balance.

Well, you get out of range/ sight!!!

Just silly to say all cav armies are set to lose because they're cavalery only, i for one, love doing this, and i have to say, yes fine, WE in general are anoying to play against, but then again, thats one of their main strenghts, on the other hand, ifantery sucks even more then cavalary against WE so....

the pints with all tactics is that they all have their weaknesses, and all cavalery has so little that i think it's a very reliable one and one I favour more then armies with a lot of infantery.

(btw, i play WoC and when i do all cav i mnostly run 3x5 marauder horse men,, 3x5 knights, a lord on dragon and a scroll caddie)

Depends on what you want to do with your cavalry units, but since out-maneuvering is a difficult process, then it would have to be the one that can hit the most with the least effort. Which brings us back to the Bretonnians.

Imho the buildings have one of the worst set of rules in the game. I mean ogres can enter any buildings! (and you can field ogres in a WoC cavalry list).

Really forget about DE cavalry list, the cold one stupidity is really a strategic liability. I'd say Empire, Bret or WoC.

DoC can run a very nasty sort of Cavalry army.

two smallest units possible of plague bearers, then max out on blood crushers and flesh hounds, maybe drop in some seekers and any hearlds on chariots or their chosen gods mount. its not the conventional cavalry army, but it is damn nasty.
