Hey. I am currently trying to build a doomsday device for apocalypse and i need some ideas. The one on the GW website looks cool but im looking for something maybe more apocalyptic.

anyone got any ideas?

How about building something around a plasma ball?

Giant target for an orbital laser.

use a vortex grenade template, build a suitable superstructure (plasticard 'metal' girders, wire running between each girder for example) around it, just enough to look like the superstructure, or a field emitted by the superstructure, is containing the vortex, add plenty or wires and gubbins and a control box or panel.

should look pretty good with a liberal smattering of skill and imagination :)

Bringer of decay came up with exactly the idea I was thinking of when I read the OP. Do that.

An Orbital Planet Buster. A big ass drill that drills into the crust of a planet and then detonates causing a massive explosion that triggers a chain reaction causing the planet to break apart. It's deployed from space and can survive entry.

Don't ask me what it would do in a table top game besides kill everything after it makes a creator and squishes stuff.

Make it a small black box with a lever on it that says "planet" and "no planet". Or label it "Doom" and mark the lever with the standard I / O - power switch labels.

A huge tesla coil.

I like the tesla coil idea too.

For something "bomb like" how about a large nuclear reactor like device? Or maybe something like the Fusion Reactor that Doc Oc make in the Spiderman 2 movie?

If you want to be funny you could always make a giant bundle of dynomite sticks with a fuse and a miniatur box of matches.

A giant plunger box with the words A.C.M.E on the side would be hilarious

Oh oh! Or you could go out and buy a Doomsday(Super Man) toy from the story and just say it's an experiment that cannot be stopped till that world is dead.

Gatorade bottle are well shaped, and you can cut them down to size too. Add some Chaos symbols and guitar wire and you should be set.

What ever it is it has to have a little model of Dr Strangelove

If I'd have to make a doomsday device, I think I would make a machine with specimen tank with a small unconscious psyker child floating inside. The child would have various connectors and cables coming out of him, ready to inject him with stims and drugs.

For maximum epicness, the device should contain many of those tanks.

I'd call it the Akira bomb .

Possibly something Sisters-esque, like a huge promethuem bomb connected by pipes in the planet's crust. When detonated, the ignited flame roars through the pipes, making them erupt and blow huge chunks out of the ground, as well as obliterating everything around them in holy flame. In the Grey Knight's case, possibly something psychic that causes the fusion in the planet's core to speed up exponentially and eventually cause the planet to collapse in on itself and implode.

Look to Futurama, especially the episode "Time Keeps on Slipping" for inspiration. There are about 6-8 different designs all in one scene :D

"Doomsday device you say? Well now the ball is in Farnsworth's court! I suppose I could part with one and still be feared..."

"They gave me the Nobel Prize in Physics when I built my Doomsday device, and then they gave me the Nobel Peace Prize when I didn't use it."

anyone got any thoughts on size requirements for the doomsday device?

i was thinking of something dreadnought sized...

Nagash's model painted as a statue, that's being assembled by captain Cortez and chaplain Lemartes.

I like the ACME idea. A big red box with ACME written on one side and a chaos symbol on the opposite side. The ends of the plunder are the gargoyle heads from the vehicle sprue. Im liking that idea indeed. Simply yet rather cool. I'll post pics when its finished :D

For those who love plasma, buy a battery powered (plastic) plasma ball!

They look great when the lights are dimmed.

How are peoples experiences with this device?

The data sheet has been out for a while now ... I'm looking at fielding 5k worth of Black Legion and Thousand Sons this evening centred around a Dooms Day Device :)

This is what I used for mine. I put a battery in it when it activated and it started to tick. It was amusing to use on the field and my friends got a kick out of it as well.

The entrance to an underground facility, and a sign saying "Welcome to C.E.R.N."

All good stuff, size wise im thinking at least tank sized, its a superheavy! But rule of cool is paramount here

How 'bout just a big red button with "Do NOT Touch" written on either it or a sign next to it.

I also liked the little black box idea.

Sorry, didn't see wazat beat me to it :(

i think the doomsday device needs a humorous side :)

One of those giant black bombs with the wick that goes TSSSSS.

Alternatively buy an alarm clock (the old fashioned kind that go tic-tic-tic) and just glue some wires onto something that looks like a giant bomb. So it's a huge clock with a bomb attached... a dethklok you might say.:p

Just a piece of paper with an intricate target painted on it might be ominous. Heralding some kind of orbital strike.

I do like the black box with the "planet" "no planet" lever though, made me lol.

Oh if you're good at sculpting/dioramas do this: Make a giant pool, with sharks in it and a man on a motorcycle jumping it while one of the sharks is jumping out trying to bite him.... Yeah, see who get's that reference, then lol.

Threw some tank trim bitz and random household items together and stuck it on a dreadnought base, a bit small but I was outta time for the game.

Had it right in the middle of the board 6" from an objective ... good deterrent if nothing else. Unfortunately the damned device didn't activate all game :(

Will be trying again in a two weeks, should have time to build a bigger one for the next apoc game, hope that a more impressive looking device leads the dice gods to favouring an early activation!

do a Virus bomb in a box mounted on a small base, gets a laugh every time.
