Dark Angel Special Rules

Hunting the Fallen
The Dark angels constantly hunt the fallen angels across the galaxy. Their honour will only be satisfied once all of them are killed or, even better, forced to repent. Members of the Deathwing will always hit fallen angels on 3+ but since they know the fate that awaits them, the fallen will hit all Deathwing members on a 3+.
Allies
The Dark angels are much more Xenos-phobic than other chapters. Dark angels always count as enemy units for the purposes of regrouping (I.e. Xenos troops cannot roll to rally within 6” of a Dark Angels unit) even if they are fighting on the same side and Dark Angels within 6” of any friendly Xenos unit lose the intractable rule (They would rather retreat to a place where there are no alien scum). Designers note: These rules are intended only for multiplayer games.
In addition Dark angels often refuse to cooperate with Inquisitorial and other imperial forces. No allies may be taken from these lists.

Blood Feud
The Dark Angels, in their long history, have angered and been angered by many other institutions, chapters and foes but none more so than the Space Wolves. The Dark Angels work alongside the Space Wolves and will fight with them for the emperor but often the two sides often eventually come to blows. Dark Angels hit Space Wolves on 3+ in assault.

Ravenwing
Ravenwing members train every day to be the most highly skilled recon force in the galaxy. Due to this a number of special Rules apply:
Expert Riders: Ravenwing may always re-roll any difficult terrain test.
Jink: Ravenwing riders are trained to swerve out of the way of incoming fire as they approach the enemy due to this they receive a save depending on how far they moved:

Up to 6” 6+ Cover Save
Over 6” 5+ Cover Save
Over 12” 4+ Cover Save

Skid Turn: Ravenwing drivers are experts at “Skid turning” their bikes (The name stuck, even for land speeder pilots!). Whenever a Ravenwing model is assaulted, it may make a difficult terrain test. If it fails it is removed as a casualty. If it succeeds it is moved D6” away from the enemy. If this moves it out of charge range then the charge fails. This cannot be done if the model is already engaged.

Lore of the Primarch
Lion El Jonson was known as the greatest strategic planner ever to fight for the Imperium. Much of his genius is passed on in his seed to the greatest commanders of the Dark Angels. If a force has a model with this rule it has strategy rating 4. In addition you may add +1 to see who gets the first turn.

Psychic Powers
Fear of the Darkness (As C: SM)
Storm of the Emperors Wrath (As C: SM) Cost: +0 points/+15 points
Might of Heroes (As C: SM) Cost: As Marine Codex
Veil of Time (As C: SM) Cost As Marine Codex
Discern Weakness Cost: +10 points/+30 points (Use at the beginning of the assault phase. If the unit wins the round of combat the enemy breaks automatically)
Lions Pride Cost: +10 points/+30 points (Having this power allows you to re-position any one deployment after rolling for first turn. You must still obey all deployment rules.)

Veteran Skills
The Deathwing are the greatest terminator company in the Imperium. They know many skills long forgotten by other chapters or that they gain as a heritage of the Lions seed.

Lions’ Reflexes
El Jonson was well known for his speed and agility, indeed it was this trait that allowed him to best ‘russ even though the wolf was by far the stronger and the most skilled.
If a unit with this skill has the same initiative value as their opponents then they will strike first UNLESS both have initiative 10.

Tactical Acumen
This squad has inherited some of the primarchs legendary strategic foresight.
This unit has the scouts USR with the additional restriction that they cannot use the skill to leave their deployment zone.

Fallen Foe
This squad has frequently been deployed to hunt down and capture the fallen. They have learned well how to defeat their former brothers.
The Squad has the favoured enemy USR against Space Marines. This includes all troops from Codex: Space marines and the chapter codexes except Servitors, All Grey Knights from Codex: Daemon hunters, All Death-watch Space marines and all chaos Space Marines. It also works on any other troops listed as space marines.

Covering Fire
This skill is learned by Deathwing Terminators with Heavy Flamers, it allows them to be fired at a different target to the rest of the squad. It has no effect on other weapons.

Heavy Support

Devastator Squad
The Dark Angels 9th Company has a special formation known as the Ironwing. To represent this armoured formation Dark Angels Devastator Squads can take Land Raiders as Transport Vehicles.

Wargear
Obsidian Blade. An example of Dark Angel artificer weaponry. Counts as a Str6 Power weapon in an assault. May not be master crafted as the extensive work that must be put into such a weapon is as much as a master crafted weapon anyway!

Lion Helm: Projects a field so that every model within 3” of the bearer gets a 4+ inv save vs. shooting. This does count for vehicles even though they usually don’t get a save.

Power Sword: Power swords hold a deep cultural significance to the Dark Angels. Being granted the right to carry a power sword is often a prelude to membership of the Deathwing. Any model with a power sword counts as having Purity seals as well.

Imperialis sword: Any model may buy this but it MUST be represented on the model itself. Power swords hold a deep cultural significance to the Dark Angels. Being granted the right to carry a power sword is often a prelude to membership of the Deathwing. Even if a Dark Angel does not bring his power sword to war he will often carry a small facsimile of it on his armour. (That’s why all the DW terminators have daggers)
In game terms they count as purity seals.

Ravenwing Bike: Any model with a Ravenwing bike is subject to the usual Ravenwing Rules as detailed earlier. They lose the stubborn ability though.

Asmodai

Hunts the fallen: Asmodai rarely takes part in the DA regular duties anymore, his role now lies with hunting those who fell. To represent this in any game where Asmodai is used the opponent may choose from the following options:
Knowledge of the fallen: One model has some small snippet of info about the fallen. The non DA player chooses any model in his army except daemons, necrons or tyranids and that model is worth double victory points to the Dark angels. However as he knows they’re coming for him, he fights with renewed vigour and always hits DA on 3+.
Fallen Allies: May choose a 5 man space marine squad. They have regular stats but have only bolters and cost no points.
Fallen amongst you: Upgrade one model to be a fallen angel with the following profile:
Points WS BS S T W I A Ld Sv
Fallen - 4 4 4 4 2 4 2 10 3+
Weapons: Power Weapon, Bolter.
The Dark angel player must provide the models for his opponent.

During the events of the Thirteenth black crusade Asmodais’ predecessor, Grand Master Sapphon, Master of Chaplains captured the Inner Circles most wanted Fallen Angel: Cypher himself. Unfortunately, though he was hailed as a great hero by the Deathwing when the ship bringing the prisoner to the rock docked it was found that both Cypher and Sapphon were missing. Sapphon has been made a saint in the eyes of the Deathwing, no other chaplain has ever come so close to capturing the most elusive of foes. Soon after Azmodai was made Grand Master of Chaplains, he was given the Sword of Vengeance, that blade traditionally carried by holders of this high office and has dedicated his life to completing Sapphons work.
Rumours abound and talk in dark corners of the rock suggest a change has come over Azmodai however, he has spoken out of the chapters betrayal at the eye of terror for were not the emperors first and finest ignored in favour of Logan Grimnar and his yapping hounds? The Dark Angels succeeded in holding and pacifying their area of responsibility but the fools in the administratum have dared blame the first legion for the failure of others in the campaign. To the loyal dark angels brethren these words stir their zealous hearts and if possible make them more fanatical warriors, to the Deathwing however there is the constant memory, a subtle reminder of the words of Luthor and how his heresy started with such rhetoric….

Grand Master Gabriel, Master of the Deathwing
Points WS BS S T W I A Ld Sv
Gabriel 200 5 5 4 4 4 6 4 10 2+/4+
Weapons: Master Crafted Storm Bolter, Sword of Redemption (Obsidian Blade), And Imperial MK1 Terminator Armour.

Special Rules:
Independent Character
Command Squad
Deathwing
Rites of Battle
Lore of the Primarch
MK1 armour: Gabriel has what is believed to be the last remaining suit of the original terminator armour manufactured before the horus heresy. It has many additional backup systems that modern suits lack. Gabriel counts as having an auspex, Searchlight, Teleport homer, Bionics, Personal Narthecium (Works on Gabriel only) Personal Reductor (Works on Gabriel only) and a Signum. In addition he has a 4+ invulnerable save rather than 5+.
Designers note: In addition if allied with imperial guard, Gabriel has a vox caster and improved comms at no additional cost. (See C:IG for details.)
Terminator Expert: Rumour has it that Gabriel has not fought without his terminator armour in over 500 years, this has given him extraordinary familiarity with its workings. He therefore counts as having true grit with his storm bolter and can re roll the scatter dice (Not the 2D6) if he and his squad are teleporting.
Sword of Redemption: When a fallen is captured, the chaplains interrogate him, usually he refuses to repent his crimes and so in order to save his soul he will be tortured to death. Sometimes however the fallen will see his error and repent. In this case his reward is a quick and merciful death from the sword of Redemption. It is the Master of the Deathwings duty to perform this task.
The Sword of Redemption is a Str 6 power Weapon made from the same meteorite as the SoS and the Ravensword however it counts as strength 8 for instakill only.

Blood Feud

Crap. Space Wolves have the rule which states that both sides strike each other on 3's so this rule is pointless.

In addition you may add +1 to see who gets the first turn.

Remember that a Space Wolf army has to shell out on a Venerable Dreadnought in order to get this ability. This seems to cost nothing.

El Jonson was well known for his speed and agility, indeed it was this trait that allowed him to best ‘russ even though the wolf was by far the stronger and the most skilled.

Errrr ???? I think he once hit Russ when he had his back turned after an arguement and stabbed him through the heart after the death of the Emperor. Hardly besting IMO.

This skill is learned by Deathwing Terminators with Heavy Flamers, it allows them to be fired at a different target to the rest of the squad. It has no effect on other weapons.

Why is this Deathwing specific?

Jink: Ravenwing riders are trained to swerve out of the way of incoming fire as they approach the enemy due to this they receive a save depending on how far they moved:

Ouch.
