For the upcoming Beastmen book, I was thinking of alternative models for the Gorgon.... Anyone know where I can find a Decent Medusa model that would fit the size?

Well, from Reaper, there's this one:
http://www.rpgshop.com/miniatures/reaper-miniatures/monsters/Medusa.html
But it's quite a bad mini, and with a bow, it doesn't exactly fit the gorgon...
There's also this one:
http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/medusa/a-z/02354
but it shares the exact same problems...
There's also a very old OOP medusa by Games Workshop, but, first, it's pretty much impossible to find and second, guess what? it's very ugly and with a bow :p
Alternatively, you can also get the Deshalla mini from the online store, it's a serpent woman with four arms. I'm afraid it's way too small though.

That's all I can think of, sorry. Your best bet is probably to convert it, really.

You could start from a shaggoth, reading some of the rumour info about it`s fluff, it seems like a minotaur version of a shaggoth.

I think the name was chosen not because it resembles the classic Greek monster, but because it has "Gor" in it...I second something Shaggoth-esque...maybe Hordes Gnarlhorn Satyr?

You do realize the most famous medusa from the Clash of the Titans used a bow dont you? Modeling a generic medusa without a bow is what's odd.

I heard that its concept art was related to the DnD Gorgon, hence wanting to get a different model.

Actually the Thing in the Woods might be a good one for this, considering I may not be using Pumagores.

Yes, I do, your point is? He wants a medusa model to represent the beastmen gorgon, I point him to medusa models, and point the obviously flaws, I don't see what you're getting at.

You mentioned 3x how the bow doesnt fit the gorgon, as if the modelers doesnt know what a gorgon should look like. While actually, the beastman doesnt fit the typical gorgon stereotype. Fine, you were just pointing out how a bow didnt fit the beastman gorgon. That's just not what I got from reading your reply the first time. I wasnt trying to start an argument or anything, I just misread what you were trying to say.

When I looked through the book, the art on the gorgons page reminded me of the old bull headed keeper of secrets. Minus the boob of course. That's going to be my starting point for building one of these. The name has been a bit of a red herring, GW seem to have in mind a four armed giant that can devour enemy models whole to regenerate it's injuries.

If I was actually going to employ them in my army, I'd just buy an extra Minotaur box, convert one to a Doombull with Great Weapon, one into an extra Minotaur with Great Weapon, and one into a Gorgon using four of the additional hand weapon arms. You'd need to build up the base a bit (or if you're ambitious enough, extend the model at its legs/abdomen with green stuff) to make it look suitably taller than a Minotaur, but it should achieve the desired effect.

I hope that you are aware that a medusa model would fit very poorly with the Gorgon rules and background. A large creature with a big mouth and lots of mutations fit better but if you want a medusa style a minotaur with snake hair seems like the best alternative (doesn't fit the classical medusa but fits the rules fairly well)

Theres a similar thread on the Warhammer forums at the moment. Someone has suggested using the Mcfarlane range of toys, check it out.

I dont think a Hords/Warmachine should be discraced by being associated with such a awful company as gamesworkshop.

I have been looking at 54mm minotaurs to stand in as a Gorgon (Ghorgon?) and maybe a Cygor.

Yedharo and Andrea appear to be the most promising. Anyone know of any others?

Gorgons:
http://www.mcfarlane.com/toys/product.aspx?product=3478
or
http://www.mcfarlane.com/toys/product.aspx?product=3477
(I think I will use the first one as either Gorgon or Doombull, the 2nd one I like more but is hard to get your hands on in the Netherlands.)

Cygor:
http://www.sodemons.com/dhurst/albgiants/index.htm
(Giant on the left is what I am gonna use, he is a cyclops that is about to throw a huge stone. What better depicts its rules? :P)
or
http://www.mcfarlane.com/toys/product.aspx?product=3493
(Nice Cyclops like big guy... :))

That is not what the WH Gorgon is like though, its a massive 4 armed Mino.

Hell Dorado do some creature thing, cant quite remember the name [Something] The Damned. Its body looks totally perfect ]although it doesnt have 4 arms. It could just have one of the new Mino Heads stuck on rather than its own. I just have no idea if its big enough, its 30mm scale and a big model for its range. Anybody have it and can do comparison shots for us next to WH models?

Has anybody used the Khorne Daemon Prince by Forgeworld? That looks to me like a very suitable miniature.

I'd say the plastic Daemon Prince with a Minotaur head, and extra set of either chaos spawn arms, or minotaur arms would be an easy conversion. That, and you have a nice set of wings to use for a jabberwock.

The plastic Daemon Prince is about the size of a Bloodthirster, so I think it'll be big enough.

Oh man... There's a great mini and I can't remember the site. It's a newer company I think that's made a few great monster models. There's one for the jabberwocky, the cyclops, a chimera, some daemon looking dudes, and a stellar possible Gorgon.

Anyone know what I'm talking about? God, I can't remember now! *pounds head trying to remember*

Bam! Here:

http://www.maelstromgames.co.uk/index.php?act=pro&pre=mae_bnl_bnb_mon_002_000#

Not the greatest model in their range (there are a few that are STELLAR) but it totally fits the bill.

Some are also aweful. Their verminlord, sorry, fiend of vermin, and their GUO, whatever the actual name was, ewww.
Anyway, it's amazing how many companies live on the gaps left open by GW. It really makes me think of flies on a wound...

RanaldLoec

Yeah its obvious what those models are meant to be but 60 that's worse pricing than forgeworld at least forgeworld stuff has more detail to it.

Saying that I prefere the fake hell pit abomb to the new GW model but not at that price.

I've had a look at the fluff and also the artwork in the codex, have a think of this.
To do it you NEED to be fairly good with greenstuff and things.
Get a model of a giant, make sure you get a second set of arms. Have a hunt for the nurgle deamon prince sword thats reasonably wide, chop one of the arms in half and attach the sword somehow. You will need to masively convert the head, perhaps using the old doombull head and greenstuffing it to make it bigger. use the flock grass and glue it all over the model in the places where you want the fur. Myself I find that an amazing was to do it, I formed the idea with one of the games-workshop artists when I went to the birmingham gamesday and had a look at his artwork for it and their possable models for it. They are thinking of bringing one out, least the guy i was talking to wanted one to come out. Looking at the rules for it, it can be awesome when used right and its a bullet magnet that keeps the fire off your units.

He gets home tomorrow night for two weeks! Then it's back to Iraq. :( But he said he might consider finishing it while he's here (painting it). It's already fully converted and everything, just unpainted. It's so awesome and almost entirely 100% green stuff. I wish I could sculpt but I just suck at it.
