Greetings
i'm going to make this brief on the talking and more on the pretty pictures.

afterwards i will give you quick run down on my first 3 games and the armies i battled.

i ended up using my flash alot instead of fighting the camera's auto sensor(and risk blured images) since it didn't like the rooms lighhting. i hate using flash because of the wash out effect but i did what i could.

armies of special notice-
heavily converted TAU and my palyers choice for cool army-action poses abound and it is beautifully painted-

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i112/mughi3/028.jpg

i snipped a few from the fantasy section as well...i am hoping to get a non blured of this fantastic wood elf ent themed army.

The only girl playing in the tournament brought her fantastic blood angels army.

Last years GT winner back for another go-

A couple friends did a combo-2 part displa board for both thier armies-

Not to be ignored the classic range all squat IG army-

and now the pics-

the pic gallery is here-

Battle wise my army looked like this-

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i112/mughi3/020.jpg

my frist opponant was IG.
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i112/mughi3/029.jpg

5 objectives/table quarters, i went first and dismantled half his force turn 1 and managed to keep his building stunned the entire game. i tried to break it several times with ironclads but never did more than stunn it.
he brought in elrahim and a bunch of IG squads in the platoon. (3 on foot and 2 in chimera). marbo, also he also used creed to outflank a russ. and then proceded to dismantle half my army.

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i112/mughi3/085.jpg

when the smoke cleared my scouts held 1 objective and he held one objective in the building-TIE

Game 2 was against magnus's space wolves. I got to fight a great player again so this was a treat for me.
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i112/mughi3/060.jpg

dawn of war and 1 objective in each deployment zone.
i lost the roll and he made me go first.
I managed to hold him back and most of the battle was around my objective.

I almost managed to sneak a lone scout onto his objective for a stellar victory with bonus points, but my shooting blew up a drop pod near him and the blast got him....of course i failed the save on that one.....no objectives held-TIE
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i112/mughi3/086.jpg

Game 3 was against a pure marked slaneesh army....
12" deployment and modified KPs
HQ-5
troops- 3 each
elite/heavy/fast-2 each
transports- 1 each

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i112/mughi3/076.jpg

I siezed the intiative and started opening up his transports. unfortunately he had nothing that could take my dreads in CC. it turned into a bit of a one sided slaughter......except for the land raider, 3 turns 9 las cannon shots and 16 krak missiels and i only managed to stunn it twice and rip off a las cannon sponson.
:wtf:

The raider finally got to my tac marinesa and unloaded 5 champion lightning claw terminators.....they were marked slaneesh at initiative 5, but the emperor said "smell my finger"as the GKGM used sacred incense to slow them down a bit, allowing a last turn kabosh.

the game ended with 3 of his terminators and that blasted land raider still on the table. my GKGM had survived the assault.
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i112/mughi3/092.jpg
he scored 4 KP
I scored 23 KP
max victory. bonus for killing his HQs

In all 3 battles my tac armies and GKGM took it for the team but i only lost 1 dread out of all 3 games.

This is the opinion of a dark eldar player after getting tabled by a khornate berserker army after killing a single demon prince.

Couple of great looking armies there!

Just a quick question though: where is all the terrain :p? Do you guys always play with this much (little) terrain in the States?

Yeah, I noticed that as well. Some very open areas there...

I like your Dread army, though. Very cool.

I like how almost everyone had a display base with them :p
How many players are there for the event?

But as said the boards look a bit empty.

I'm shocked at the tiny amount of terrain too!

Usually you see tables with atleast 25% coverage, usually about 30%!

I know at adepticon most of their boards were VERY nicely decorated with wonderful terrain...the terrain in those pictures looked incredibly anemic..

So, for space marines dreadnoughts are the new mainstay, with a minimum of troops? Interesting. And as to the questions about terrain, I'm American and I try to use as much terrain as I can get away with.

Yeah, the photobucket needs a log in of some sort.
Nice photos for the armies that I can see though.
Personally I love dreads so I'm glad to see they do so well :p

Nice colorful armies for the most part, but no real terrain, neither in coverage or design. I think this is a serious issue that has to be addressed in 40k at some point, perhaps 25% cover should become the next "most important rule" and would surely make the current "rule" more obsolete.

Nice pics though, i loved the Tau man! Can you inform uson how many points the tournament was, who won and how did the BAs Mech assault fare?

I like the neatness and pro-look of the army list unfurled behind your army.

I always picture people writing their list up on a napkin or some toilet paper.

I'd give you a good painting score just for that. :)

Though the army looks nice as well.

That last DE army was gorgeous. I'm shocked he got smacked by pure Zerks....the dice really must have deserved a booing.

That said, in a tag team my partner once put 80 Wytch and Dracite attacks into a single berzerker squad (I think there were....13 power weapons as well) and cause 0 wounds...then lost 8 wytches and had them both run down.....

Well just to answer a few questions.
i have been to several GTs and they all seem to have sparse terrain here in the US. This year was a special case as of 2 weeks prior to the event they had no terrain spoken for and had to scramble to get what we had.

In normal games at my LGS we always try to play with 25% +

with 90 40K players, 40 fantasy players, even with all the terrain they had it was a little sparse on 65 tables...well there were the 2 lord of the rings players who ahowed up but we don't count them.

Points cost for the event was 2,000 and all listed had to be printed up for every opponant and the judges with full unit stats so no napkins or scratch paper this time around. I was the only one that used a backboard DM screen(a dark heresey one to) to display my army list.

I had to leave early before final scores were anounced so i will get back to you with that soon, since i know several people who stayed for it.

It looks like the guy who won last years painting score with his chaos army (by cheating) was back with his eldar and undefeated. from what i heard from his opponants he is a competative WAAC player and not fun to battle against. sad really since he is such a good painter.

his list this time around was star cannon/scatter laser walker heavy with a seer council on bikes and some dragons in a serpent.

So, for space marines dreadnoughts are the new mainstay, with a minimum of troops? Interesting. And as to the questions about terrain,
Not if your super competative, most marines will run a venerable dread or two. but most people will not want to spend that many points on a single unit in any numbers. my list is moere about my love of dreads and my fluff background. if you use it tactically well it can do wonders. you make a few bad moves and you will get eaten by most armies.

i think fro 5th ed melta weapons are the marines "mainstay" build item.

On with day 2

Game 4
center objective for bonus points

12" deploment, standard kill points.

My opponant was running chaos undivided 13th black crusade style.
not only was it a very tough army, it was also a very fluff army.
.Abaddon
.6 noise marines with sonic weapons
.7 plague marines with 2 melta in rhino
.8 zerkers in a possed raider
.9 thousand sons in rhino
.X2 2 man oblit squads
.one squad of summoned lesser demons.

This was probably the toughest and most fun game i had all tournament.
when the dust cleared he had 5 zerkers left and 2 noise marines.

I was left with 1 dread, 1 pod, 2 scouts, and 7 tac marines. we tied on KPs but he scored bonus GT points for getting his zerkers back on the center objective.
My GKGM will reside in a place of honor under the monestary on titan. he fell in combat but struck a mighty blow and sundered abaddon in close combat.

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i112/mughi3/2010%20GT/gtd25.jpg

Game 5
My only loss. i battle the squat IG army. i figure this one was going to be a walk for me since he had so much infantry in the open for my flamers.

game-
spearhead
objective-size ground-markers in the center of each un-used table quarter
secondary objective-standard kill points

He had marbo(of course) a couple out flanking sentinel units, the deathstrike and a couple of demolishers.

this game went bad for me from the start. he siezed the intitiative, chased my scouts of the table and then got his deathstrike to fire on turn 1, ufortunately it scattered off the tac unit inside the fortified building......and killed the MOTF. this really hurt me since i could not fix any of the damaged dreads for the rest of the game.

This was a matter of dice. tactically i made sound moves but his dice were on fire. his basic IG were shooting average...for marines.... and i rarely see that many 6+ in any one game for armor pen and damage results, even on the re-rolls!

I tried to contest but my scatters went bad for the pods and everything i threw at him died. i did managed to immobilise one demolisher, the other i assaulted with the GKGM and squad for a total of 8 strength 8 attacks on rear AV 11.....netting me a bunch of weapon destroyed result and an immobilised. he had full kit on it so i got both sponsons, the hull and the stubber(the cannon got taken from shooting) but then i had other threats to deal with and could not finsih it.

In the end he got me by 2KPs (8 VS 6) held my objective and i contested his.

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i112/mughi3/2010%20GT/gtd27.jpg

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i112/mughi3/2010%20GT/gtd28.jpg

After thoughts-
The GKGM was wprth every point. no psyker powers got off in any of my games, i stopped them all cold, the wolves, the thousand sons and even the primus psyker in the last game. also the sacred incense paid for itself in spades against the slaneesh army and against abbadon.

I think the list performed well in the tournament environment even though it was not a power build. netting me a record of
1/1/3
W/L/T

p.s.
i got a coulple more fantasy pics-
i love this guys display board-

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i112/mughi3/2010%20GT/gtd21.jpg

and i also snapped another of the ent "wood elf" army

Did he really fire the Deathstrike on the first turn? If so, you got cheated because it absolutely is forbidden to fire on the first turn of the game.

That army for chaos sounds like a blast. Out of curiosity you say that the previous years painted army winner cheated. How so?

The Deathstrike cannot fire on turn 1.

well i do not have an IG dex so i was otherwise unaware of that fact.

yes he did fire it turn 1 on a roll of a 6+

Out of curiosity you say that the previous years painted army winner cheated. How so?
during paint judging in 09' he had 4 squads of noise marines in his emperors children army, but one of them wasn't fully painted. thats a dock of like 75 points to paint score. so he hid that squad under the table and put out some other finished units that were not part of the army list he was playing.

When he was awarded best painting at the end one of the people who played him happened to voice a question about the unpainted squad. as it so happens i had as always taken pics of all the armies that were painted (his was very nice to boot) when they were set up display/judging and we went back and looked at the pic. the said squad was missing and other units were on the table in thier place.

Unfortunately it was all after everything had been done so there was no going back.

As a regular player at the Seattle Battle Bunker I can explain the lack of terrain. A few people from one of the local stores took up the task of building all of the terrain and tables for the tournament, two weeks prior to the tournament though, the tables were all built but they dropped out from making all the terrain, so the Seattle Battle Bunker staff had to gather together EVERY SINGLE TERRAIN KIT from all the local GW stores and build up what eventually came to be four 4x8 tables filled with terrain pieces and three 4x6 tables filled with terrain pieces as well, all built, based, and painted at least one color in addition to the tan basing in a span of two weeks, they had like six people working like madmen assembly line style and invited people in the shop to build terrain pieces if they so wished in order to speed up the process. Assembly -> Basing -> Spray gun base color -> Spray gun 2nd color(if it was one of the metal colored pieces) -> hand paint basing.

Not sure why the terrain wasn't made earlier in the process, but building and painting something like 150-200 pieces of terrain in a span of two weeks is a serious feat in of itself.

Hey, I didnt get to go this year (except for a visit on Sunday to look at the armies), but was there for the 2k9 one. How did you as a player like the objectives with the Win/Loss/Draw compare to last years with the minor and major losses options work out for you? It seems like it would not give as good of a spread on points to me. I'm hoping to get to go to the one in portland and possibly in Vancouver.

Sadly I was 2nd in painting score last years Gt, but like you said it was already done and nothing could have been done about it.

I liked the scenerios this year much better. they were far simpler than in 09' and that made for a clear and faster game IMHO

Apparently there's some sort of drama brewing about the winner this year again about moving models when his opponent wasn't looking and the TO's allowing him a cover save against a power fist in a death or glory (never mind that it's a close combat attack or that SMF saves don't apply until after the movement phase). His last opponent apparently just left the game in frustration from what I gather.

I watched a good chunk of the last game and his opponent, a great player btw. took everything in stride and didnt leave the game early... I thought there were many questionable calls and one of the people i went to visit there had said he saw him cheat no less then three times during the tourny. But was the good back seat gamer and stayed out of the game. I talked with his final opponent after the game (in which the guy dinged him on sportsmanship, because "The game was too intense", the ding pulled him out of best general or 2nd overall apparently, i didnt look at the scores myself) and the guy took it all really really well, many people wanted to just throttle him.

Edit: spoke with a friend and apparently, he did call the game early, i thought it had ended since the judges had called the 15 minute warning, and a blood angel/eldar game i would think would be done in 2.5 hours naturally.

His opponant in the last round was gary sunoda(sp?), he is a great guy and a fantastic tactition. from what i have seen he is also a great sport. i have seen him play at the GT and ard'boys with his bood angels.

nathan(the winner) always struck me as a bit of an **** by his attitude. fortunately i never had to play him, but i know the type. it doesn't suprise me that he would be caught cheating. he's one of those people so bent on winning at all costs that games against him really are not very fun from my observations.

To intense?
i heard gary say that to...and it may me go huh?
:wtf:
you expect the final round of the GT between the top tier players to be a cakewalk?
