View Full Version : All about last_chancer's New 40k Blood Pact Army

I, the being known as last_chancer, have decided to commission a WH40K Blood Pact Army...

This thread will be the ONLY way to keep track of the army as it expands and reaches new heights...

Keep on,
last_chancer:wtf:

Ok... Thats enough Bull-*****...

"Whats this all about?" I hear you cry... Well, i'll tell you...

I was inspired by an article in WD 295 to create something "a little different"...

03-02-2006, 11:57
Basically, I've decided to call my BP army "The Guardians of Urdesh".

Not only is it catchy, but "Urdesh" is also the name of a Forge World that the BP captured during the Sabbat Wars.

The army will be mainly IG (allowing the use of doctrines), with CSM Aspiring Champions leading important squads.

I've tried to keep it as IG as possible, but with just a hint of Khornate CSM, thus reflecting the martial nature of BP forces.

The reason for this is to show that the BP would rather induct existing IG members (sometimes forcibly) that field mutants and other LatD unit choices.

I plan to convert most models to fit the descriptions in the WD Article. At some point I aim to add a second command squad, containing the leader of the entire pact, Urlock Gaur. Think Ursakar Creed, but renegade.

Meanwhile, the army list has yet to be written...

03-02-2006, 12:13
You can actually use the LatD list for the eye of terror that allow your to have the aspiring champions as leutenants, you can field defilers as the stalk tanks used by the blood pact, leman russes, traitors, mutants with the nurgle trait so they will have save 4+, chaos hounds to supress the population.

03-02-2006, 12:43
I've had a better idea, regarding Stalk-tanks...
Because the WD article says they are Walkers, armed with pulse lasers...

So, instead of using Defilers i'll use Forge World's IG and SM Lascannon Tarantulas - but with Defiler or Sentinel legs.

Sounds like they could be classed as a Fast Attack choice; like a IG Sentinel with more legs, but the Lascannon will be Twin-Linked... Groovy!

But i'll probably throw a "proper" Defiler in, just for good measure...!

Keep it hush-hush though, its kind of my own personal gimmick...

Keep on,
last_chancer:wtf:

I've been neglecting my business studies in favour of thinking about a "Blood Pact Veterans" army list...
Here's what I managed to come up with...

(NOTE: I haven't used my codex, as this is just rough work)

++HQ Choices++

Command Platoon:
- Command Squad:
Senior Officer - wargear to follow.
Rest of squad - all with special wepons, probably Plasma/Melta.

3 x "6 man" Heavy weapons Squads:
(i.e. 3 HB's, 3 AC's, 3 Rocket Launchers)

2 x "3 man" Special Weapons Squads
(One with 3 sniper rifles & 3 lasguns)
(one with Demo Charge, 2 Flamers and 3 Lasguns)

++Elites Choices++

1 x Hardened Veterans: all with Shotguns and Frag Grenades.
Also with Grenade Launcher and 2 or 3 other Special Weapons.
Will have Infiltrate ability or FW Arvus Lighter Transport.

2 x BP Death Brigade (See WD 293 for squad choices):
(One with Flamer and Grenade Launcher.)
(One with Plasma Gun and Melta Gun.)
(Both with 4+ armour upgrade and an unknown CSM veteran skill.)

++Troops Choices++

An unknown number of IG style Platoons.
(Probably just 2, each with with a HQ & 2 Squads).

(One platoon will be fully upgraded, the other platoon
will be used for assault, so there's no point.)

++Fast Attack Choices++

3 x Stalk-tanks (at IG Lascannon Sentinel points cost, the only difference is the "to hit" re-roll.
And the number of legs, of course!!!).

1 x Hellhound.

++Heavy Support Choices++

1 x Leman Russ Battle Tank (LRBT):
With Battle Cannon, Lascannon and 2 x HB's (+ vehicle upgrades).

Leman Russ Exterminator (LREx): 135 Pts.
With Twin-Linked AC and 3 x HB's
(I know that its from the old codex, but the firepower and the
anti-infantry/anti-tau capabilites are TOO GOOD to pass up)

1 x Defiler:
With Reaper AC and Rockets OR Close Copmbat Weapon.

As you can tell theres' a LOT of firepower and not so much of any thing else.

BUT, my infantry can keep moving under covering fire
(from the HQ platoons Heavy Weapons),
fire once or twice, then assault whats left.

What do you lot think? Let me know...

last_chancer:wtf:

I'll check the IG/CSM Codex when I get home from college...
Expect a full (-ish) Army List by next week...

(WTF!!! Whats the plural for Codex???)

See you,

Codices, actually.

I've always liked many of the Blood Pact conversions I've seen on account of they're just generally rather cool. Looking forward to pictures!

03-02-2006, 17:37
The only book I have read with Blood Pact in them was Double Eagle, where they played only a small part...and they still kicked serious ass. They just sound awesome.

Good luck with this army.

For an idea of stalk tanks take a look at the Sabbat Worlds crusade book. I bought it just for reference when I get around to my Blood Pact army. It has a full page of diagrams that are really cool.

how are you going to do the masks? As i remember they have relatively long noses like blades.

06-02-2006, 04:21
The conversion at the white dwarf used either the raptor champion head or the gargoyle type muzzle cannons from the chaos sprues. additionally u can just use any marine/chaos marine bare head with a respirator and add a couple of teeht to the mask.

i did a bloodpact a while ago and i used a fantacy goblin head that i cut to size an fitted into a hollowed out cadian head... worked out pretty good.

06-02-2006, 10:43
@ Skuller: WD used a classic CSM raptors head. I'll probably just use SM heads (not helmets, just respirators).

@metalfingeredvillain: I probably wont spend too much time converting, it'll just be head-swaps...

@ Fearfrost: They also apear in the Gaunts Ghosts series - "The Saint".

Woo-hoo!!! I just worked all weekend...
Got paid...
Bought Cadian Battleforce...
Locked my self in my room...

(Forgot to buy that !@$% glue!!!)

08-02-2006, 03:28
Just out of curiousity, anyone know of any additional fluff for this list? I knwo they were in at least one novel, but that's as far as I get cept for the WD article.....

08-02-2006, 08:50
Try the Sabbat Crusade book as they turn up regularly in the Gaunt's Ghosts books.

08-02-2006, 13:14
As I said; try "Gaunts Ghosts - The Saint" series...

BTW, i managed to buy a bit (i.e: gallons) of superglue, I'll now be spending about a week gluing 60 troopers, 2 leman russes and a 6 man heavy weapon platoon...

I'll probably be too busy too post, but I'll get pictures up as son as they are taken...

*At this piont last_chancer drowns in sea of superglue, bitz and unfinished minatures... hopefully resurfacing before next week*

*He also hopes to learn to swim before the glue dries out...*

Keep on,
last__chancer:wtf:

You could always have a look at the Sabbat Crusade campaign booklet for Nov 05, which had bit of army rules and background in it

If the pdf not avaiable give me a shout.

08-02-2006, 21:20
I'm curious for pictures. I was planning on making some stalk tanks myself, but I'd really like to see how you're going to make yours.

10-02-2006, 09:44
@MacVurrich: Don't post the PDF up!!! I did that for someone else and got my post deleted cos I broke copyright... BUT, if youve got a website, post it there and PM me a link....

@Mojaco: Cos theyre basically walkers with Las-cannons,
(i.e. boring Sentinels), i decided to pimp them up a bit....

Keep them walkers by giving them chaos legs (i.e. Defiler bottom half).

Since the WD article says they use "...twin pulse-cannons...", i decided that i could tweak it to say "...twin linked Las-cannons...". For this, i would need the IG/SM LC Tarantula from FW.

dont worry, i'll still pay the extra points for the "twin-linked" part...

I'll buy appropriate Defiler sprues from GW mail-order tomorrow, (saturday), and order the tarantulas by mid-week...

ETA for pictures: next weekend (-ish!!!).

Thanks for your interest,

14-02-2006, 23:01
Ahem... a slight change of plan...

Instead of buying the Defiler stuff, I opted to build one unit type at a time starting with HQ/Heavy Support...

So instead, I bought two "6-man" Heavy Weapon Platoons, one with Auto-cannon and one with Rocket Launchers...

Note that they're all built (and converted), I'll post pics tomorrow (hopefully)...

I also decided on how to split my troops up, into factions:

The main 1000pt army, for average-sized battles.
A 400pt (-ish! Give or take 100pts or so...) combat patrol force, mechanised, as an add-on to make a 1500pt tournament contender. Can also be used separatley for smaller skirmishes.
A FW Baneblade tank, bringing the total to roughly 2000pts.Pretty nifty, huh? (Comments please...)

I've also set myself a small milestone/deadline... I hope to complete the 400pt part before 18th June, in time for the Conflict: South Doubles Tournament at Alexandra Palace... Aargh!

Because to the amount of work i'm getting, this should be easy. But there are other commitments (i.e. college, parents, mates, etc).

Still, four months is a LONG time, and theres a birthday in March, meaning a cashflow boost... Who knows, I may JUST pull it off...

Anyway, less rambling, more army building...

Keep on,

Honestly, reading modelling project logs without pictures is like watching porno without nekkid people.

Honestly, reading modelling project logs without pictures is like watching porno without nekkid people.

I do so agree...

However, I wanted this thread to reflect ALL the parts of building an Army, from: Concept -> List Making -> Model Building/Painting -> Playing.

Anyways, these ought to serve your appetite...
They're of the Rocket Launcher Team, they will be primed by tonight and painted by 2 weeks time...

In a few hours i'll do the same for the Auto-cannon Team...:D

See you,

15-02-2006, 13:49
Slight technical hitch...:(

I cant upload photos from my home computer (a $*@#-ing laptop)...

I'll see if I can't get some Net-cafe time in before the day is out, otherwise I'll upload via the college computers the other side of the weekend...

UPDATE: 2 out of 3 Heavy Weapon Squads, Hellhound and 1 out of 2 leman russ are built and at least primed (both tanks are painted).

Photos by above dates...

BTW: Is anyone here going to Conflict: South?

Green Grot
15-02-2006, 14:41
Hmm...I'm considering going to Conflict South.

Anyway you say you wanna get a Baneblade to bring your force to around 2000pts, you do know that you can only use a Baneblade in games of above 2000pts because you need a second detatchment?

15-02-2006, 15:07
I thought it was only a 1500pt lower limit!
(But I dont own a copy of 'Imperial Armour', so I could be mistaken...)

Oh well...

Looks like it'll be two varied 500pt segments then...

Do you know if theres a FW stall at Conflict?
The leaflet said 'New Releases', but i'm not sure...

16-02-2006, 06:16
instead of buying the tarantulas, why dont you just purchase the razorback weapon sprue. it comes with a twin linked lascannon. and it is like $6. just an idea.

20-02-2006, 10:11
@ ilikebmxbikes: I would do that, but I cant see a way to mount them on the defiler base. Besides, the computer part between the lascannons shows a bit of AI, which fits the bill perfectly.

Check the Forge World thumbnails below to see what I mean...
Just imagine 3 of them with Defiler legs instead of the emplacment supports... Freaky, huh?

Sod doing 500pts before June! I just heard about the Taros Campaign, taking place in GW stores at Easter, I'll probably be the only Blood Pact player there, so it's time to show off a little bit...

Keep on,

22-02-2006, 20:13
Sorry guys...

The only way I can post photos is by making them about 1 inch across...

(See thumbnails)

Sorry to mess people around, but if any one knows any ways to get decent sized photos of a decent quality, please PM me and let me know...

Alternatively, how can I post them "in the thread", instead of as thumbnails?

22-02-2006, 20:30
Pictures? I really want to see some!

Anvils Hammer
22-02-2006, 21:08
er... lack of photos detected, how am I suposed to vote in the rather superfluous poll if Ive nothing to go by?

01-03-2006, 13:00

In future photos will be posted on photobucket...

Because I no longer have a J-O-B, I am forced to rely on secondary income (my EMA, in other words)...

As a result, the thread may become a little (Read: very) slack...

Rabid Bunny 666
01-03-2006, 15:01
gotta love EMA :D

slight lack of pictures odd, but the army composition is good

01-03-2006, 18:28
As a result, the thread may become a little slack...

What do you mean "may become", I haven't seen a single thing yet...:wtf:
good luck on getting your feet...

01-03-2006, 18:55
I need piccies, as the Blood Pact is a very interesting theme to go by. Hope you get something posted to us

13-03-2006, 14:02
Ive decided to close the thread until beginning of May...

(In other words; as soon as i get the money to carry on... )

I gotta birthday on 26th march, so expect small cashflow boost around then...:D

I'll kick off the new thread showcasing my 400pt (-ish) combat patrol...

See you there...
