I was pleasantly suprised when i came home this afternoon to find a small package form mantic in my mailbox. Within were contained a regiment of skeletal warriors fresh from the grave.

This thread will document my progress building and painitng them.

There is also a sister thread on The chamber of kings: link below

I know. besides from my command pair he is my favorite mantic item to date. i'll have more pictures later. In the meantime, i ordered bases for these fellows along with a balefire to accompany them.

Still waiting on bases. They were supposed to be sent ahead of the catapult (which is a preorder)

I'm expecting them around monday/teus. Keep an eye on this thread.

It's always nice to see some non-GW models for a change. Do you plan on doing the whole army with this manufacturer?

lord marcus
28-02-2010, 05:10
well, i think in a while the regiments may seem like an army, but no. I am using the undead line to bulk out my tomb kings army (hence the title)

The regular skeletons fit the fluff for my third generation king, king Amon-khatep, who laid siege and eventually sacked and enslaved the lost dwarf hold of karak Zorn. The new slaves were put to work smithing high quality bronze armor and weapons for the kings armies, for he had raised his army up as heroes after the sacking, for they had stormed a great breach in the walls. Thus he required better armor and weapons for his new corps of elite soldiers. naturally the king detested the rune magic of the dwarves, but allowed the priests of d'jaf to enchant the new blades with curses of great power.

I will however, be doing a whole army of mantics elves as high elves.

28-02-2010, 19:49
A little wash and light drybrush on that sand will really make it pop on the table.

It looks like you're going for a brown, bone and bronze scheme here? Any complementary or accent colors planned for the units?

lord marcus
01-03-2010, 21:59
purple and green are the colors of the mortuary cult in my army (hence the green skull on the banner)

01-03-2010, 23:01
Looks good I`m still waiting for my two orders from mantic to drop into the mailbox or a post office nearby. I will probably mix em up with GW:s current two skeleton lines to get more variations.

lord marcus
03-03-2010, 01:24
I would advise against. The scales aren't exactly the same, and the mantic skeletons can look diverse all thier own. of course, that is just my opinion, do as you see fit.

working on the last four skellies atm.

I just went on a full day cleaning spree to raise money to buy the new undead deal with the vamp-peggy. I'll let you all know how the raising part pans out after dinner.

Balefire came today!

A possible hint towards the concept art process? (armies done in pairs?)

If you link your thread to your signature, they will come ;)

The catapult looks better here, than it does on the website.
The website pics made it look a bit skinny, but your pics do it justice.

Maybe use something else to hold up the mantic poster as well, the tape may not be so nice to the wall if you ever take it down :)

liking the colour scheme, looking forward to you completing some models ( bases, etc ).

Well all, I just failed at the speed challenge for a second time, this time with skeletons. It took me 29 minutes to complete a sprue, thats three minutes under my previous speed.:(:(

A possible hint towards the concept art process? (armies done in pairs?)

Or maybe the next army will slot right in the middle so as to be seen as fighting off the Elves and Undead from both sides... Come on Dwarves... Double art spread

lord marcus
18-04-2010, 00:34
I'm guessing the dwarves will be facing the orcs, as such they will be under the elven poster where orcs will be under the undead poster (when I get them)

18-04-2010, 09:29
You think? I'm not sure they'd be able to get the perspective right were they meant to line up like that.

I suspect all 'good' armies will be lined up on the left and all 'evil' will be on the right.

lord marcus
18-04-2010, 23:20
Well, I guess its just a waiting game.

Anyway, work is continuing on the army deal.

lord marcus
22-04-2010, 23:20
OK, so heres the plan. I have 8 days, minus three hours this saturday, to paint 96 more miniatures (including 3.5 characters!) for the RECON 2000 pt tournament next sunday. If you've hopped over to the army list section, you've probably seen what i'm gonna take, so i'll spare the details. Suffice to say it is a sub-par but hopefully entertaining skellie horde tomb king list.

i'll ve updating project Q in a moment, and i plan to have pictures up during the next week.

The main plan is to tackle 76 figures first, and then move onto the hard stuff (tomb guard)

lord marcus
02-05-2010, 02:09
So i went to RECON today expecting just to browse and play a few demos. I was subsequently rangled into playing in the 40K tourney with a borrowed space marines force. I then went on to unexpectedly win the sportsmanship award for the day, earning me a copy of Henry Zou's new "flesh and iron"

Hopefully this is good tidings for the fantasy tournament tommorow!

On the flip side, because i did not expect to play in a tourney today, i did ont bring my camera. this will be rectified tommorow!

06-05-2010, 20:22
Hey these mantic skellies look quite good! Have got any of them finished in total? And I really like the posters they've got going there, it looks cool.

The test skellies look great. :)

06-05-2010, 20:48
those are some nice looking skellies. I think they do look a little monotone; every colour is reddish (reddish bronze, reddish brown). An accent colour would really help. Even something as minor as different coloured belts would really make them pop.

Looking forward to seeing more.

lord marcus
06-05-2010, 21:41
I have about 60 skeletons painted in total, none are based.

06-05-2010, 21:45
Woa! :) really? Why not post them in this log then? :)

03-06-2010, 14:47
You ever gonna update this thread marcus?

03-06-2010, 16:06
I think you shoudl posted the complete ones mate, what you have posted here looks like you made a good start!

last post for awhile cause of me leaving for my seminar tommorow, but do not fret! While i'm gone you can all ooh, ahh, and comment over my progress on King Amon-Zar of QUATAR (yea baby!)

26-06-2010, 21:15
Nice idea for the Kings chariot........does this mean we will get a War room update soon?

27-06-2010, 09:57
Whoa! I love those chariots of yours, mind if I use the idea in far future? Nice scheme too, troubling over with my own army :(. Trying to get White black and red (similar to a spanish like wine bottle?) working...

The chariot is looking very cool. Also be very interested in seeing how your Mantic Skellies look fully based. I just ordered the Dwarf/Undead battle box and might order a second one, so very interested to see alternate paint schemes.
