View Full Version : Feb specialist games releases

Back late last year Andy anounced on the specialist games forums that the SGs would have two release dates this year one of which is supposed to be during Febuary, however so far nothing has been heard and after checking the GW online store nothings up there either, I emailed one of the Mods on the forum and he claimed Andy had assured him the releases were still comin but that was a couple weeks ago and still no word not even a blog entry. For me this is disapointing first because maybe it means we arent going to see anything released for the SGs and secondly because even if they do the releases it just seems like they arent even really trying to sell the products anymore, no hype, no advertising, etc.
Anyone else heard anything about the Feb releases?

Nope, heard nothing, but I am not surprised. The whole last year was a series of promises of which nearly none became true. I never took the February termin for real. If we are lucky, they do not remove all of the stuff from the range. :(

Have fun,

Rolf.

Hey Grimshawl, my BFG interest has been peaked a bit and I might buy a tau fleet. They now have the specialist games catalogue at the shop now as well so later this year if you wanted to place an order just let me know and we'll combine em.

I heard the release date was 4th March, but that's just from the SG Forum.

hey Grim, nice to be able to chat to you without breaking the laws of reality (I'll explain in a PM, if you're that interested).

All I've heard has been on the Inquisitor front - Thorian sourcebook & Inquisitor (yeah, like I believe that. The thorian sourcebook's HOW overdue?) and a Callidus (which I predict will be useless, and have crappy rules, just like the other two assassins they released). There's another model, a gladiator-type, that won't be released, but made it as far as a sculpting run.

As for the release date? Don't hold your breath for February March is a remote possibility.

The Thorian is probably a definite seeing as it's already availible from the German GW Store (got one on order myself and so far no email saying that they're not going to send it).

I thought the Feral Ork Epic stuff was gonna be released Feb?

According to the next White Dwarf, it is.

Wonder if they will ever release any new stuff for Blood Bowl?

Wonder if they will ever release any new stuff for Blood Bowl? As far as I have heard there was some planing/concepts on a new Dwarf team. Unfortunately I have no idea how close to completion this project is. At least the Deathroller got a new model recently (well, relatively ).

I think we can forget about all the nice ideas about trainers, apothecaries and other staff that was floating around. :(

Have fun,

Rolf.

It sucks so much that GW are letting its SGs just wither and die, especially so when they are their best games. I've had far more fun playing games of Epic, Necro and Warhammer Quest than any game of 40K or Fantasy. I know White Dwarf puts in some effort with their mini Necro and Mordheim campaigns, but they're not permanent enough.

It was rumoured that they were going to redesign all BB teams to be in line with the new 16 man human set.

I wouldn't expect anything anytime soon though - maybe if they ever do a BB campaign, the way they are doing Mordheim and recently Necromunda, well see some releases.

Don't you mean...

... THE BLOOD BOWL WORLD CUP!

For the record, it would be an excellent idea for a worldwide campaign. It'd have none of the timelime-changing consequences of the FB and 40k ones, because it's just sports after all.

They do have a BBGT in the uk. That pretty much IS the World Cup of BB i guess.

There is a reason my Human Team's being Orange and having names like Cocu, van Nistelrooy and Robben...

There are releases advertised in the new UK WD.
Loads of Feral Orks for Epic, Callidus Assassin and Thorian Inquisitor (two horrible looking figures going ny the painted pictures) for Inquisitor.

Yes, I'm pleased to see that Specialist games stuff is being released, but those Inquisitor figures are pretty poor. I think that's perhaps one reason for bringing SG back into the main Studio, the argueably poorer quality control.

The big things for the Feral Orks are nice though love the steam gargant. I've never been a fan of the smaller scale stuff anyway, so difficult for me to judge it.

The Thorian was a delayed release (so isn't new at all), GW told me it was something to do with molding problems (when I emailed them about it, perhaps 2 - 3 years ago). Same reason they removed the Vindicare.

Anyways, I'm probably one of the only people that actually like those models. (Though I will most likely reposition the Callidus Gun Arm so she's actually pointing it at something).

anyone remember the TBA priced 'Human Mercenary Warband' advertised as a new release (with no pic) some time last year? (sorry I cant be exact)
I think it was around the time the first wave of Feral Ork stuff was released, or teh BB Dwarf warmachine

The only =][= models worth a damn are the Eldar Ranger and the Vindicare Assassin, which is now totally sold out.

I'm actually tempted to go with my goblin team one year...

Have fun,

True, the inqisitor models are very variable in quality. I liked the naval bodyguard, and the Navis Nobilite. Shame to see that the Vindicare has gone, that was great (as were the Blood Bowl ogres, also sadly dicontinued).

Still available - as a full team and individually. Excellent models.

@rkunisch - i was basing them solely on looks too, the Tau is ok, as is the Kroot.

The person building and painting the Inquisitor models makes all the difference in the world as to how they look: being relatively large, poor assembly or an overly-garish paint job will make them look awful. I personally can't say as I think that GW's "official" photos of them do many of the figures in the line true justice. Most of them look quite a bit better "in person" than the catalogue photos might suggest.

Oddly enough, in my experience the Vindicare figure was not one of the better of them: it's a single-piece model, so one can't modify it to any great degree at all without some serious effort. Also, I bought my Vindicare rather late after the figure's release, and the copy I received was of very poor mold quality. It's taking some considerable work to get it looking good.

I will definitely be buying both the Callidus and the Thorian figures, the latter more for conversion potential than because I like the figure as-is, however.

From the WD315 preview on the UK GW site:

Standard Bearer: A World of Confusion: Jervis Johnson is one of Games Workshop’s longest-serving games developers. Every month in this column he brings you top secret information from the very heart of the Design Studio. In this, the first, Jervis reveals plans for an exciting new range of supplements…

JJ is the head of specialist games, right? Might this have something todo with the rumoured release?

I wouldn't hold my breath. Sure, JJ is the Head Fanatic, but his article seam to aim for the mainstream core systems.

Have fun,

Rolf.

Jervis has basicly done nothing that is SGs related for months now, instead GW trots him out to shows like a pony and or directs him onto 40k type developements, Andy is currently doing what little is done with the SGs along with what amounts to volunteers/army champions who are still trying to develope army lists for Epic A and articles for the Online Fanatic Mag.
he is pretty much the head Fanatic in name only at this point while the SGs idle along, those Feral Ork releases are all overly delayed models from back about a year ago, were just lucky to have gotten them at all at this point.

I wish they released Witch hunter Captain blister (one on horse one on foot). Just like they did for Reiklanders, Middenheimers and Marienburgers.

The old Squiggoth looks a bit dated next to the Orkeosaurus, but aside from that, I like. Especially that beefy Boss / Nob on the Feral Ork stand.

I got my Vindicare quite recently (two weeks ago?), straight from the US GW online store. In good quality too. If I can't find a model I need then I go to the US and European online stores and get them (I can get all the cancelled Inquisitor models that way if I like). Not too hard to do, but if you do it make sure to batch order (get a bunch of stuff) if ordering from the US as it wouldn't be cheap to order them one by one.

The main reason the Vindicare was removed from UK stores was due to "moulding issues", which is the same "official" reason that the Thorian was removed from the line (obviously they've either fixed the issues or were lieing to me, seeing as he's finally getting a release).

Wonder if they'll ever release a Culexus or/and Inquisitors for each faction. Probably unlikely, though I guess we'll find out in six months.
