The Tale of Fantasy Painters 2009-2010

Month 7

It's all down hill from here.

All the best,
Harry

This is the thread on which you post your work for month SEVEN. (The work you have done in the month of FEBRUARY).

Please make only one post (for each army) in the first week.

Your post should include:

1) The description and points of the unit. AND YOUR TOTAL POINTS SO FAR.
2) Any additional information you care to share with us about your painting.
3) A Dice roll. (Explained below)
4) Up to six photographs of your months work and the army so far.

The dice role.

With over 250 painters in this years Fantasy tale it would be impossible to try to comment on everyones work. (Although there are some who will try!) We considered splitting into army factions which would have left every one only posting on others painting the same army. Someone came up with the great idea of dicing for it. So you throw a dice and record the score. You then try and post comment on everyone who has the same dice roll as you. In return you can expect comment form all of them. This way each month we will all be commenting on a random selection of other painters work.
(Note: this does not stop anyone posting anything they like about anyones work regardless of the numbers rolled!)

A Word on using photographs

You can use up to six photographs (the maximum allowed in a post by warseer). To show us your months painting and the 'army' so far. The best size for showing your work is 640x480 (It can be smaller or you can use ‘thumbs’ which link to bigger pictures but they must not be bigger or it takes too long for the pages to load). The best thing to do is to resize them, wherever you are hosting your images, and then drag and drop the ‘img code’ directly into the text.

This month (MARCH) WIP Thread.

AFTER THE FIRST WEEK ... This thread will become the 'normal' ... comment and crit’ of others work, Work In Progress (WIP) pictures of your work as it develops, how you are getting on, seeking advice and encouragement for your ideas and your painting and generally chatting about the project, life and the cosmos.

However, please continue to only post your work for the first week. This is to give everyone a chance to post up their finished work before it gets lost amongst a sea of chat and WIP shots.

Thanks again to everyone who has signed up for this madness.

If you have not signed up yet…

If you have not signed up yet and would like to join us you are not to late.
Just post on this thread which army and how many points you intend to paint and then crack on.
Anything you post this month will count for last months painting.
(Although you will have to push on and paint something for next month to catch us up).

If you can not post anything this month …

DO NOT PANIC! … use a joker.
Busy lives calm down again, enthusiasm returns, time presents itself.
When it does 'push hard and 'buy back' your joker by painting extra. If your struggling post and say so. (don't just slip quietly away) You will be amazed by the posts of encouragement and support which come from your fellow painters eager to see you successfully complete this project. Most importantly ... 'Stick with it' ... The prize of getting your stuff painted remains worth all the effort.

What is it all about?

Do you want to paint a 2000 point army in the next 12 months?
Do you want to meet a great bunch, with the same goal who will encourage and support you throughout the process?
Can you do the same in return?
Are you completely bonkers?
Then you have come to the right place! :D

The aim of The Tale of Painters (TOP) is to help motivate those involved to start and complete an army in the next twelve months.

We made a decision early on to split the Tale into two separate 'halves' one for 40K and one for Fantasy. They have continued to evolve in slightly different ways but this is how the Fantasy Tale works.

The painters involved have made a commitment to paint and post, by the last day of each month, approx 200 points of their chosen army. They do this each month for the next 12 months. Starting with their first post on the last day of August 2009 and finishing with their last post on the last day of July 2010.

However, because people have real lives with exams, holidays, honeymoons, new babies etc, etc. They get two 'Jokers'. For two months within the year you can ‘play a joker’ and rather than post an update they can post "sorry guys couldn't get it done this month. Real life got in the way." But the other 10 Months they have to come up with (approx) 200 points of painted and based figures. That is 200 points for 10 of the next 12 months.

At the end of each month a new thread will appear for the painters to post your previous months painting.

In twelve months time we will all end up with a finished 2000 point army.
(Or at least everyone who can see it through to the end ... it's harder than you think!)

Men and Boys (and Infants!)

Because this is harder than you would think ... This year rather than try and hold everyone to 200 points a month we have decided to allow folks to join in and paint only 100 points a month. Whilst the goal for many remains getting a 2000 point army painted in a year the original and ongoing intention of this whole thing was to encourage and support folks to get stuff painted and 1000 points is better than no points! As a result we have two catagories. 'Men' (painting 2000 points/month) and 'Boys' (painting 1000 points/month).
I have also added a list for the 'Infants' or Warmaster painters.

The Painters: (Thanks as always to Braad!)

Frequently Asked Questions

Q : Am I too Late? Can I still Join in?
A : No you are not too late. Yes you can still join in. Just post on this thread saying which army and how many points you intend to paint.
.....TRY AND MAKE IT CLEAR YOU ARE SIGNING IN FOR THE FIRST TIME IN YOUR POST SO I DON'T MISS IT!

Q : Can I paint more than 200 points in a month?
A : Yes (we are not here to tell you how and when to paint your stuff, it is great to get ahead) BUT we would like you only to post 200 points (approx) each month and try to stay roughly on track with 200 points a month (200 points in month 1, 400 points by month 2, 600 points by month 3, etc.) so as not to depress the hell out of those of us who are struggling to keep up.

Q : Can I paint less than 200 points in a month?
A : Yes. But we try to stay on track by painting more points in the next month to 'catch up'. For example oif you only painted 100 points one month you could try and get 300 points painted the next month. Equally if you paint more one month you can take it easy and paint less the next month.

Q : What happens when I paint an expensive character?
A : This happens a lot. If your character was over 400 points you would simply paint him over two months (the sort of time your general deserves!) So You start posting him one month and post nothing the first month (unless you want to post WIP) then the second month you post the finished model and all the points get added on.

Q : Can I include a short narrative with each months post.
A : Yes. Write much as you like. We love background. write as much as you like it will be read and enjoyed by many.

ARMY : Empire (1000 Points)

UNIT: 1 Captain and 5 Reiksguard Knights.

BACKGROUND/THEME: The Empire army is made up of different forces from its contingent states. However the backbone of the Empire army is the Reiksguard, who are recruited across the Empire from amongst the elder sons of the nobility . They accompany the Emperor in war and peace. The Reiksguard is the personal army and personal bodyguard of the Emperor on the battlefield and in the course of his ceremonial duties.
The Reiksguard forms an elite core of highly trained, expensively-equipped troops who are loyal to the Emperor in person. Although few in number, the Reiksguard is the most important part of the army and usually forms up in the centre around the Emperor himself.

The Reiksguard is divided into warriors who fight on foot, refered to as the Reiksguard Regiment and a mounted arm known as the Reiksguard Knights.

The Reiksguard Knights are the Emperors best troops and form the core of the Imperial army. Many a battle has been won by the decisive charge by the Reiksguard knights.
The Knights carry tall lances and ride fierce stallions. The Reiksguard wear magnificent gilded armour, highly polished to a mirror like finish, scarlet sashes and their hems are adorned with tall, feathered red and white crest of the ruling Emperor Karl Franz. The Reiksguard Knights standard displays the emblem of Karl Franz and their lance pennants are decorated with crowns. The motto ‘Mallus’ painted on his knights armour means ‘hammer’.

The infantry arm of the Reiksguard, The Reiksguard Regiment are the Emperors own troops and are the nearest thing the Empire has to a state army. They are armed with heavy swords and shields and wear ornate steel armour which they keep polished to a mirror finish.

BUILD/CONVERSION: Straight out of the box classic Perry Reiksguard Knights.

PAINTING: Undercoated black. Drybrushed Chainmail. Selective Black wash. Painted Mithril Silver highlights. Final highlight mithril Silver and white mix. Gold trim: Dry brushed with Tin Bitz, Brazen Brass, Shinning and Burnish Gold. Chesnut Ink wash. Stockings and White Plumes: Painted white, washed with fortress grey, drybrushed white. Red Plumes: painted Blood Red, washed red and purple ink, drybrushed Blood Red.

BASING: Gritty sand, painted bestial brown, highlighted with Snakebite leather and bleached bone mixes little stones painted black then dry brushed with greys with static grass to finish.

STILL TO DO: Banner and pennants to lances.

HIGHS AND LOWS: Lovely old minis. Easy to paint because so much is armour. Got a bit bogged down with trying to paint these too well.

UNIT: Captain (great weapon and full plate armour) and Templar Grand Master

BACKGROUND/THEME:Not so long ago a son of a local nobleman was fascinated with war and military. With the financial support of his aristocratic family, the young noble began to gather the finest warriors from all across the Empire and far beyond. Unfortunately the spoiled child has no military experienced due to extensive education thus the greatest warriors gain weight and their only opponent is the fearsome rust.

BUILD/CONVERSION: The captain is made from different bits and pieces. If you really want to know ask me in my log.

Sorry it is a bit late fellas.
Better late then never!

THIS MONTHS PAINTING:

UNIT: Wyvern

BACKGROUND/THEME: Army by the rules of the ‘7 knights’ scenario.

BUILD/CONVERSION: The original wyvern, reposed a bit here and there, like a twist in the body, a bent in the tail and a stretched leg. Also put on the balrog wings (with added horns from the original wings to bring him in line with my other wyvern) and resculpted the shoulders and sculpted the rug for the boss to sit on. Fully sculpted the rock on the base. Added a few snotlings, and also the savage warboss I painted last month.

STILL TO DO: Done.

HIGHS AND LOWS: Actually went quite quick on his paintjob for a change. Was nice.
And he already delivered me a fine major victory!

POINTS: 200
TOTAL: 1022

And together with my first wyvern for comparison. I attempted to make them look similar to each other, and put the differences mainly in pose and stuff, as they are supposed to be the same species of animal.

Im afraid my motivation to paint Empire has gone in the tank. Ive been painting some Retribution for Warmachine so hopefully the break will rekindle some interest. I look forward to seeing what all the non-slackers have done though.

ARMY : Tomb Kings (2000 points)

UNIT: Tomb King on a chariot, liche priest on foot, tomb scorpion.

BACKGROUND/THEME: I still haven't come with something.

BUILD/CONVERSION: Chopped the chartiot to include 2 horses instead of the 4 from the model.

PAINTING: same as before [ details here (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4090055&postcount=7) ]

BASING: Same recipe.

STILL TO DO: nothing, these are complete!

HIGHS AND LOWS: High : I manage to buy back my joker, I've really enjoyed painting the king, I manage to make better highlights. Found the vintage scorpion in my bitz box and painted it up for my army!

Lows : No lows for this month!

THIS MONTHS PAINTING:

1 x Lord Skrolk
+ some (not included)

BUILD/CONVERSION: As I wanted my lord choice to stand out I put him on a small rock (made from pine bark) and added the skull and the rat. Other than that straight from a blister (or to be more precise straight from a blister ages ago. This must be my third time that I've painted him).

PAINTING: I really think I captured him this time! The painting actually looks better in real life which usually isn't the case. I was painting a large number of rank-and-file troops but got so bored that I just did my lord in stead. So no I'm good for a long time. ^_^

BASING: As told in B/C

HIGHS AND LOWS: I've actually been highly motivated in painting skavens this month and it's been great. I haven't had the time to paint them properly though but it just means that this month might be a lot easier as I can just finish what I started in last month. No real lows this months.

G'day all!

Army: Slayer Cult 2000pts

Dice Roll: 2 (once again, my physics calculator works well as I cannot be bothered to get off my lazy **** to get a die whilst typing. Hehe

Units:
19x Troll Slayers w/ Musician and Standard - 227pts

1x Doomseeker - 65pts

Gotrek Gurnisson and Felix Jaeger - 475 Note: These two guys weren't intended in the original list, they just sorta, popped in so to speak. So the list is 2k without them. However, given the army, I think they are quite fitting with the army and have decided to include them as my last 500pts towards the total army.

Total This Month: 767
Total Overall: 1259

Now this seems like alot but it would catch me up to as if I had done the tale from the start and keeps my jokers in check if I ever need one. Forgive the large entry but I couldn't go without including my pride and joy so to speak

Painting & Conversions:
Thankfully nothing special like last month. I do really enjoy painting Slayers. I tend to treat each one like an Individual Character models. So when I paint them whilst watching DvDs (just got seasons 1, 2 & 3 of Bones ftw!), it takes me 40 mins or an episode/Slayer. Let me grab my calculator... Thats 12hrs 40mins for a unit of 19 slayers... ouch! So I decided to setup a Painting line for the last 9 which worked but made it significantly less fun. However, this may be due to the fact that I somehow got 6 of one and 5 of another sculpt in the block of 19 so.. yea, Next month will be alot better having both new, old and many different sculpts to work with. Also, It should be good fun to convert hammers and swords to Axes (A slayer, with a hammer pfft, thats for pansy humans or slayers with large... nails in their.... heads.... Look Snorri, Trolls! Where!, heh heh heh, works every time)

The skin is dwarf flesh washed with barab black in the cracks and Devlan Mud elsewhere. The hair is Blood red, Barab Black wash with Blazing Orange Dry Brush. Gotrek and Felix are my favorite models I've ever known, I supposed a prized piece as I'm a fan of the books and spent alot of time on them. Not happy with Gotrek's beard though, its too dark despite the blazing orange dry brush.

The Standard took almost as long as Gotrek and Felix. It took me ages to find the right blue shading but I'm really proud of it. I'm actually thinking of making him the BsB.

The Doomseeker is tentative at the moment, I might either try and isolate 6 sculpts or do some converting, not sure yet. But he looks cool anyway so I'm happy.

1st Unit Finished (3 Models) (the warrior unit)
3rd Unit (19 Models)
4th Unit (19 Models)
Another Hero
Battle Std Bearer
5x DoomSeekers
Makaisson's Hewer (Including Dead Goblin and Axe Board. Still trying to plan a really cool theme base for it but I think ill just end up doing cardboard with some nice basing and the ability to remove models as needed. Can anyone comment on how such bases function in games? Are they a real pain in the ****?)

Major Update:
I just received word from eBay that I won the 2nd chance bid on an auction I bid on a week ago. For 11$ Au I got:
Games Day DaemonSlayer
2 Actual Doomseekers (from SoC)
Another giant slayer
2 Other troll slayers
All painted and based on a snow movement tray.
omg nerdgasm!!!! However, I will be going over bits of them so they suit my army. If the snow base thing works out, I might make it the theme of the army, sounds like fun compared to the rough sand for my tau and jungle grass for my Lizzies.

ARMY : Empire Nordland Army

UNIT: 1 Steam Tank and unit filler for the spearmen (counts as 11 spearmen).

BACKGROUND/THEME: Elvis the traveling Halfling Bard hires a Norldland Army for protection to travel around the empire ;).

BUILD/CONVERSION: The unit filler for the spearmen (Elvis' bodyguard) represents his chest full of clothes. It is of course the cart that came with BFSP. 3 other minis added to the unit are War Dogs. They also secure Elvis' safety.

PAINTING: Experiment with painting large metal surfaces ended pretty well. Boltgun Metal Basecoat, Badab Black Wash, followed by Boltgun, Boltgun/Mithril, Mithril highlight.

STILL TO DO: Steam Tank Engineer will be painted along with some War Machine Crew or State Troops.

HIGHS AND LOWS: Loved constructing the Steam Tank. This was actually the first mini where I had to use the construction manual! Love the details! I also quite like the look of the halfling unit complete with fillers.

POINTS : Steam Tank (300) + 11 Spearmen (55) = 355

TOTAL POINTS : 1150 + 355 = 1505 (which buys my Joker back, yaaay).

ARMY : Dark Elves

UNIT: 16 Executioners (FC)

BUILD/CONVERSION: The unfortunate number 16 follows from 'the olden times'... I bought two blisters and then a box of 10. I plan to add 5 more so I can eventually field them in a 7x3 formation.

PAINTING: Same colour scheme as my Black Guard Unit. Liche Purple highlighted up to Warlock Purple, and Regal Blue highlighted up to Enchanted Blue.

STILL TO DO: Nothing

HIGHS AND LOWS: I like the feel of them as a unit. The gold looks a bit flashy though...

PAINTING/CONVERSION: Straight out of the box. Metallics painted as follows: Basecoated with Boltgun Metal, highlighted towards the lower parts of the main hull with Chainmail and Mithril Silver, applied with foam from a blister pack. The reda are actually of a much richer hue IRL, and not so flat and dull as in the picture.

STILL TO DO: Some freehand on the parchment-thingys held by the griffons.

HIGHS/LOWS: Metallics. I hate painting metallics. But it turned out nice, no?

Sorry about my lack of comments over the previous months, it's a combination of being extremely busy and very lazy.

ARMY : Lizardmen

UNIT: Slann Mage Priest

BUILD/CONVERSION: Straight out of the box with a few green stuff vines to cover the terrible mould joins on the base.

HIGHS AND LOWS:The mage was great fun to paint, while the throne was a PITA. Unfortunatly my daughter was rushed into hospital 2 weeks ago for an emergency op, but she's all ok now. So I took 2 weeks off work to look after our eldest, which meant that life has been a bit mental recently.

Army: High Elves (2000 points)

Units: 10 Archers and 5 Dragon Princes.

Points: 260

Total: 1285

Models: The archers are the, really old, mono-pose plastic ones. The Dragon Princes are converted from the plastic silver helms. The tails and cloaks on the DPs were my first ever green stuff sculpts.

Highs/lows: It's nice to finally have something that looks like an army. My rediscovered dislike for painting cavalry made painting the DPs pretty boring.

Next month: Maiden Guards (sea guard) and a Great Eagle.

And a shot of this year's Tale army:

http://i350.photobucket.com/albums/q438/tarjeiaasen/Warriors%20of%20Chaos/CIMG0372.jpg

Construction:
The model is a Chosen with the plastic skull helmet from the Warrior command kit and a scratch-built scythe head made from plasticard. It also has a shield from one of the Maruader kits and an hour glass from the Flagellant kit.
He also has a lot of skulls on his base as he's the Minister of Health, and the underside is covered with eyes (taken from shield emblems on the old Night Goblin shield sprue) and very short tentacles (horns from Marauder helmets).
This is also my sixth Disc rider (only two to go!).

Painting:
Standard Tzeentch scheme with yellow and bronze armour.

Highs this month:
Having completed the model on time, and being done with next month's model as well. It helps to be lazy and just paint characters.

...and lows:
None, really. Well, the guy keeps on dying stupidly in the battles I fight, but that's about it.

Next month:
Daemon Prince, most likely, as he's done.

ARMY : Orcs and Goblins 2000pts

UNITS:

Azhag on Skullmuncha
Giant
Orc Shaman
2 Spearchukkas

BUILD/CONVERSION: Pretty much straight out of the box for most of it. I've converted one of the spearchukkas with shieldy bits from the black orc drum and it's obviously the old Azhag on not the old Wyvern. The giant should have a vulture on his shoulder but that seems to have gone the journey...

STILL TO DO: Having looked at these pictures a lot! I'm calling them finished but I think I'm going to have to redo Azhag and the giant as they aren't the best.

HIGHS AND LOWS: Lots of points catching me back up and some intresting stuff to paint, funnily enough of everything this month I most enjoyed painting the spear chukka crew. Lows are how the big models have turned out, they look ok to me in real life but they look horribly flat in the photos. In my defence they were rushed for a tournement so hopefully I'll come back to them in the future. Also the shamans hand falling off just before I took the photo :( I'll add an army shot of what I've painted so far at the end of the week.

POINTS : 450+205+150+70 = 875pts

Here's my offering this month!

ARMY : Miraglean Dogs of War

DICE ROLL : 1

UNITS : Wizard Lord. Finished off Asarnil.

BUILD : The Wizard Lord is the stock standard Mordheim Elf Mage. Beautiful model. Asarnil and Deathfang are the High Elf Dragon kit with some minor conversions.

STILL TO DO : Asarnil's shield has been painted, but I am not attaching yet. I still need to paint the wavery flag thing for the lance, so I am waiting until I completely finish that off before glueing the shield, his sword and Varnishing him.
I still need to do the base as well obviously.

HIGHS : The Elf Mage was really enjoyable to paint. Lots of flowing robes meant I could do lots of blending. Really happy with how he turned out in the end. Likewise for Asarnil and Deathfang. Although I think Asarnil kinda shows he was painted a while back, still enjoyed painting them both in the end.

LOWS : None really. Everything is coming along smoothly.

POINTS : 540 (Buying back my Joker).
TOTAL : 1659

NEXT MONTH: Next month are my Bearmen incoming. I've pretty much finished painting them except the command (Whom I'm still converting the Standard Bearer Oerl the Young and the Hornblower). Also a Man-Eater. This will hit 2000 points, but I'll still be continueing with the Tale to get to 2500 in June.

Malorian's Lizardmen:

12 jokers!!! Now that's just mean :( But don't worry, I'll earn them back :D

Painted: scarvet on coldone with piranah blade, skink chief w/ cloak of feathers, skink priest w/ diadem, 18 spear saurus w/ banner and musician, 10 skinks.

Total points: 550 (275 each)

Conversions: The scarvet and chief are fairly converted.

Highs: Nice to see my lizardmen finally being painted.

Lows: It took forever to dot all the black scales and then when I did the wash it filled in the cracks and made them hard to see... all that hard work for almost nothing...

Next month: I just keep chipping away at the core... I'll need to catch up in points at some point but I can always paint 5 stegs in a month if needed:p

Comments!

1st Page:

@Harry - Solid work as always. I quess it's because of the angle you took the picture but captain seems to be leaning a bit of from his saddle.
@Krzyek - Good painting! I like the bull icon on the helmet!
@Ego Ninja - Hope you get it finalized in time. The base could use some additional elements as it's quite bare still. LOVING the blue on your wizard! I usually keep on painting evil races as they don't need so pure colours as good races. This one looks extremely good!
@Braad - Really solid work. Would like to see a battle report once you get the 7 "knights" ready to rumble.
@Harry (again) - Spiders for snotlings. Good idea. Where's the Spiderwagon? :D
@jahorin - I like the paintwork on these though I would like to see these pics with corrected white balance so that the colours would come out more clearly.
@Shazam - Nice looking dwarfs. I would recommend to search for some quick tips for painting the eyes. Currently they strike out quite strong and make it look like there's a thick layer of paint all over the minis. I hate painting eyes myself but they just usually make a huge difference.
@Matrim_Cauthon - Great work! Where did you get the halflings? The druchii look absolutely great even though I'm not quite sure about the green grass bases.
@Dark Apostle - Really solid work!
@fluffystuff - O_O just stunning... The base itself is a great piece of art!
@Desert Rain - I wouldn't have thought that the old bowmen could look that good! The copy/paste mold on them actually suits High Elfs imo. Only thing I would work on are the capes on the DPs. Maybe more shadows could make them more lifelike?
@Bluesabre - The golden armours make them look much more interesting than basic black and purple. Good choice and paint work. The riders seem to be leaning a bit thoug.
@Avian - Menancing mini! Liking it! The green edges on the base are mostly a big no-no for me though. ^_^
@nkicik - Really good base coloring though they might look even more striking with a little more deeper shadows. The old Azhag model is marvelous! I really like my minis as old as I can get them (that is if I can get them in metal).
@EmperorNorton - From what I can see good and solid work!

2nd page
@EmperorNorton - As above though the white plums could propably have stronger contrast. It might be a issue of flash though.
@8bitMummies - Wow! These look too good for the new armybook! ;) Great painting. I'm not huge fan of the big skull on the top of the bannerpole as it just SCREAMS ogres for me (and I really mean it in CAPSLOCK).
@Doi - Really good pure colours. I usually can't get white work on such a big canvas but your banners look great. Also - no ogre army is ready without atleast one ogre with two ironfists. I see you got yours already.
@someone2040 - Great looking mage!
@Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull - Good painting! Escpecially the shafts of the spears look really lifelike.
@Gargobot - I like the mage! You could propably give him even brighter highlights. That would create more contrast and make him look even better.
@Malorian - That's a big number of models painted! (As well as jokers used ;) ) I like the conversion that I can see and would like to see them on the bases also. Keep up the good work!
@Dakkapantz - I really enjoyed the Albion campaign and liked the minis too. The hair on this guy is ridiculous (on the sculpt I mean) but your painting makes him really striking! The dagger on his belt looks like it's made from stone and that counts as good fluff in my books.
@Grebulon - The basing is quite good looking as is the painting too! Maybe more high light and shadows on the bronze?
@Giledan - Nice and strong colors!

Comments:

@Harry: Knights are awesome. Metal coulours painted very well. Really like those old models.
@Krzyek: If you hate painting yellow try painting a white undercoat (if you don't already spray your minis white that is). When I paint yellow over a black undercoat I first put on a layer of Dheneb Stone. Works really well. The gold armour came out nice too!
@Ego Ninja: Thirster is coming along nicely. Mage is amazing. Really like the scrying ball.
@Braad: Very, and I mean very nice wyvern you got there. Savage sweetness.
@Harry: Spiders look great! Great idea too... I have some of these buggers from back in the days of Warhammer Quest.
@jahorin: I will have to repeat myself but I really like the way you paint bone. Looks ancient, as Tomb Kings should look!
@doc_cthulhu : Skrolk looks very good. Love the book, and the OSL on his hand from the warpstone. Nice touch!
@Shazarn: You got to love that doomseeker mini! Nice collection of slayers you got going on there!
@Dark Apostle: Your metal looks better than mine! The cannons especially are well executed!
@fluffystuff: I have to say the Slann Mage Priest is my favourite mini. Almost makes me want to start a lizardmen army, especially after seeing one painted as brilliant as this one. Very nice job.
@Desert Rain: Great job! I am discovering my dislike of painting cavalry this month by painting 8 knights, 2 mounted captains and a mounted warrior priest. But the horses are done, yaay. I find that the monotonous pose works for High Elves, at least it's how I imagine High Elves as elite troops. The dragon princes' cloaks are a very nice touch!
@Bluesabre: You say these were painted fairly quick but it doens't show. Splendid looking unit, I especially like the banner!
@Avian: Amazing! The hourglass is perfect. Too bad the underside of the disc doesn't show, it deserves to be seen.
@nkicik: That's a hell of a lot of points you painted there. I quite like the giant, skin tones look great!
@EmperorNorton: White wolves look nice. Great diversity on the horses.
@EmperorNorton: The panthers look great too, but I think the white is a little too white, if you know what I mean. Maybe a black or brown wash? Might be just me though.
@8bitMummies: I think that is exacly the colour scheme I used on some gors I painted. Like the dark colours a lot better than the shiny ones in the new army book. Cygor's coming along nicely too. Would love to see that painted up!
@Doi: Skin tones are amazing as always, and I also really like the banner(s). Splendid way of shading/highlighting white.
@someone2040: Mage looks awesome indeed. You paint red really well!
@Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull: Boar boys for the win! Nice big unit. They look as orcs should look, not too much discipline.
@Gargobot Huntsmen look superb. Colour combination yellow/purple is indeed something you don't see everyday, but hey, it's a wizard, they do strange things!
@Malorian: Nice colour scheme. That's almost an army painted in one month... incredible!
@Dakkapantz: Very nice skin tones and the blue as a contrast tone works really well. Great mini.
@Grebulon: Master on cold one looks really great! If you plan on doing all your bases like on that master it will look great on the tabletop.
@Giledan: Clean, strong colours. especially the red!
@Dino : Lord looks terrific! The cloak is a work of art, and a pain in the ass to paint, I imagine...

Keep up the great work everyone!!

page 1:
@Harry : Again a very nice ride into nostalgia. Great work on those armours.
@Kryzek : very knights, I like the shading you've done on the horns on the mounted one. The back of the guy on foot could use a bit more depth/higlight.
@Ego Ninja : Great start on the bloodthisther. Can't wait to see it completed.
@Ego Ninja : Nicely done with the wizard, the crystal ball is quite nice.
@Braad : The wyvern is lovely. The convestion works great, much better than the original. I'm tempted to "borrow" your idea.
@Harry : Nice job on the classic spider. I like the idea for the snotling. Are those the plastic one from warhammer quest? I really like your bases.
@doc_cthulhu : Great work on the model. The freehand on the book is awesome.
@Shazarn : Good work on the slayer, they will look much better when they are based. Keep up the good work.

@Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull : Good work on those soon to be classic models :)
@Gargobot : Nice job. From the picture the wizards look quite good. Nice army that you have here, don't give up!
@Malorian : Nice work on the saurus, the army is very good.

@Giledan : very crisp and clean painting. good work on both models.
@Dino : Nice work on the thane, the cloak looks really good. Your army is coming together quite nicely.

Everybody is doing well, keep up the good work!

@jahorin - I like the paintwork on these though I would like to see these pics with corrected white balance so that the colours would come out more clearly.

I'm having troubles figuring out how to take the pictures with the same settings from months to month. I should be able to find the correct recipe before the end of the tales :)

@Harry: Impressive! Seeing your Reiksguard makes me nostalgic, and I almost (but only almost) stop looking forward to the rumored new empire cavalry... Spiders look good too.
@Krzyek: I love the captain. Great helmet, and nice free hand on the back of it.
@Ego Ninja: Good start on the BT, and a very nice rich blue color on the wizard robes.
@Braad: Brutal! I like the tail and the wings, great idea to switch the claws on the wings.
@Calibretto: Let's see some more minis next month. Slacker :)
@jahorin: I really like the scorpion, but maybe the blues on the other models could benfit from another wash/shading?
@doc_cthulhu: Nice Ė the freehand makes it pop.
@Shazarn: That's a lot of slayers! Will look great once based, I'm sure.
@Matrim_Cauthon: I like the stank Ė your metallics look great. The spear(half)men are ace Ė I just love those minis! Executioners look fine.
@fluffystuff: What can I say Ė epic! Smooth, clean painting, very vivid colors. The base is fantastic.
@Desert Rain: I like the addition of the cloaks. Not too fond of the monopose archers, bur mix in some archer with different poses and they'll look just fine.
@Bluesabre: I like their armour, and the freehand on the banner looks good.
@Avian: Coolest disk ever!
@nkicik: That's a lot of points in one month! Looks great, keep it up!
@EmperorNorton: There be horses! How did you manage not to go insane painting your way through all of those?
@8bitMummies: Get painting! The Cygor looks way cool already.
@Doi: Looks mighty good as always. I like the golden lion atop the standard. Nice touch!
@someone2040: I love that magician, remember seeing a sneek peak of the mini long before it was released, and wanting it badly. In the end I never bought one though... Great painting on Asarnil, I like the red.
@Warlord Ghazak Gahzkull: That's a mean bunch. Solid work, keep painting!
@Gargobot: I actually like the colors on the wizard Ė but then blue and yellow sits well with us swedes...
@gsmc: I look forward to see the flagellants Ė really great minis.
@Malorian: I like the winged chap. Not too sure about bases fully covered in static grass though, I prefer some sand and stone and spots o grass.
@Dakkapantz: Cool, I like the tattoos.
@Grebulon: Solid job, keep it up.
@Giledan: Nice standard bearer, and very good, rich red armor on both models.
@Dino: Imposing lord. I like it. The army as a whole starts to look really impressive.

Comments, while I have the opportunity:

Page 1:
Harry: The Reiksguard look great! Good tone on the armor, and the army shot looks nice. All of the spiders are solid as well.
Krzyek: The Captain and Templar turned out nice. Excellent job on the freehand work! I dig the Captain's helmet, too.
Ego Ninja: Your Bloodthirster is coming along nicely, and the blue/blending on that Wizard is stunning.
Braad: The Wyvern was worth the wait, very impressive! Nice basing, too. Fielding two of them must be a real treat.
Jahorin: That Tomb Scorpion rules, really cool model and your paintjob brings it out. The King and the Liche Priest look good too, the blue on the chariot provides a subtle but nice contrast.
doc_cthulhu: You have really nailed Lord Skrolk! Er...nevermind. In all seriousness, you have brought out the full potential of that model (one of my faves) and the detail on the base and the book are awesome. Not to mention the plague censer! Excellent job.
Shazarn: Slayers galore! Good job, they look cool en masse. I would add a darker wash to them, but that is just personal preference.
Matrim_Cauthon: Cute (and well painted) halflings, and that Steam Tank is just beautiful. Your Dark Elves look intimidating as usual, and I like the subtle way you decorated the banner, it looks cryptic and frightening!
Dark Apostle: Geez, another gorgeous Steam Tank! You guys have gotta share your secrets to getting such smooth metallics. Good muted colors.
Fluffystuff: The Slaan looks great, even the traditional scheme looks bright and vibrant! The snake is a solid detail. Cool base, as usual. Those Skinks are shaping up nicely, too.
Desert Rain: The gems look perfect, and nice job on the capes. I am trying a similar conversion, and it is rather difficult. The old archers look cool.
Bluesabre: The Cold One Knights look great, and cool freehand on the banner.
Avian: Nice Exalted Hero, the detail on both sides of the disc is awesome, especially the eyes! The scythe turned out great.
nkicik: Good job all around! The Giant is my favorite, that skin tone is really cool. The Shaman looks especially nice. The Wyvern looks a little flat, maybe, but another round of highlights will bring it right out!
EmperorNorton: Wow, you are really cranking out Knights! They all meet the same standard, too, which is impressive. Looking good as usual!

Page 2:
Doi: Congratulations on finishing your biggest Ogre units, I wish I could say the same. The metallics on this month's submission look particularly nice.
someone2040: The green glowy eyes on the Elf mage really stand out! Asarnil and Deathfang turned out great, too.
Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull: Awesome Boar Boyz! They look fearsome as all get ou, especially with the BSB.
Gargobot: Personally, I think the color-combo on the Wizard looks very nice. The contrast is strong, and the painting is great. What isn't to like? The Huntsmen look great, too.
Malorian: Already catching up! Good looking Lizardmen, I like the scales.
Dakkapantz: Wow, that Truthsayer looks nice. Great skin tone, and the highlights on the headdress are perfect.
Grebulon: Nice looking Dark Elves, there. I especially dig the color combination on the Assassin, the sigil on his tabard came out great.
Giledan: You may not have made the points, but they look awesome! Every last detail is picked out well, and the skin on the shield just glows. So cool.
Dino: Your Dwarf Lord came out great, I like the runic base and cloak.

Thanks for the comments everyone, even though I jokered! :D:D

PAGE 1

@ Harry (Empire): Very nice. I love the variation in the horse colours. Oh, and your banner pole is a bit on the wobbly side.

@ Krzyek: Great work, the On Foot Captain is an excellent conversion. Love the freehand work on his back too.

@ Ego Ninja (DoC): A promising start, looking forward to seeing him finished.

@ Ego Ninja (Empire): Ooh fantastic work here. The blue cape and the orb are lovely. One of the best Wizards Iíve seen come out of that plastic kit.

@ Braad: Iíve been waiting a while to see this finished, and you have not disappointed. Excellent work. I canít help but feel the warpaint on the wing looks like a target though.

@ Harry (Night Goblins): Nice work. Once again youíve shown that youíre the master when it comes to making bases. Theyíre always one of my favourite parts of your work.

@ jahorin: Great work, the Vintage Scorpion is ace. Iím not completely sold on the blue on the chariot though. I think gold with blue insets would have worked better the blue with gold details.

@ doc_cthulu: The freehand on the book is stunning, otherwise not much to say really, youíve outdone yourself.

@ Shazarn: Good work. If the ebay pic is any indication, I think the snow bases will work really well across your army, make the red hair really stand out.

@ Matrim_Cauthon (Empire): Great work. The metal on the Steam Tank came out really well, nice and clean.

@ Matrim_Cauthon (DE): Very nice. I donít think the gold is too flashy at all, it suits quite well.

@ Dark Apostle: Great work. How did you paint the cannon? Pretty sure it wasnít covered by the Boltgun + Chainmail method :p.

@ fluffystuff: As usual, your work is stunning. How did you paint the tan coloured skin on the Slaan?

@ Desert Rain: Your first attempts at GS capes are better than mine were... Nice work this month. I think Iíd have got bored of those archers before the cavalry though.

@ Bluesabre: Very nice, love the banners.

@ Avian: The Health Minister is fantastic. The Chosen makes a great base model. Will we be seeing the two remaining disc riders over the next two months?

@ nkicik: Nice work. Are you using the camera flash when you take the picture? That could explain why some of the paintjobs look a bit flat.

@ EmperorNorton (Middenheim): Great work. I really like the red in the robes, should look really good when based.

PAGE 2

@ EmperorNorton (Middenland): Twenty horses in a month would have driven me bonkers, how you coped is beyond me. Nice work, but I prefer the Middenheim bunch this month. So, another twenty cavalry next month?

@8bitMummies: Looking forward to seeing the Cygor all done up, but I have a complaint, it has more than one eye :p.

@ someone2040: Well Iíve been waiting for you to finish Asarnil for even longer then I have been waiting for Braadís Wyvern, and you havenít disappointed either. It was well worth the wait. Now I just want pictures of it based...

@ Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull: That is one mean unit of Boar Boys. The BSB is like the icing on the cake, really makes the unit pop. Great work.

@ Gargobot: I actually like that colour combination on the wizard... The colour combination I donít like, however, is the blonde haired Huntsmen (the blonde beard is fine though). It seems far too bright.

@ Malorian: First of all, I think youíve just earnt the record for most Jokers in a TOFP. Second of all, that Cloak of Feathers conversion is inspired. It looks amazing. Now you have me waiting for a five stegadon month...

@ Dakkapantz: That Truthsayer is fantastic. The skin/tattoos /hair came out really well. Great job.

@ Grebulon: Nice job. Normally Iíd recommend snow bases for Druchii, but I have the feeling grass would work better on yours with the light blues and purples.

@ Giledan: Great work, I really like the shield on the Knight.

@ Dino: Clan Lord Red Greenís cape is fantastic. Itís a bummer that youíve had to drop the WoC, but Iíve always preferred your Dwarves, so at least my favourite is the one staying.

@Doi - Really good pure colours. I usually can't get white work on such a big canvas but your banners look great. Also - no ogre army is ready without atleast one ogre with two ironfists. I see you got yours already.

Thanks. Might have to work another dual Iron Fist model in to make sure I'm ready twice over ;).

@Doi: Skin tones are amazing as always, and I also really like the banner(s). Splendid way of shading/highlighting white.

For all of the comments my white banners get, they really are the simplest thing for me to paint. Astronomicon Grey with a Skull White highlight, not even blended. Ridiculous amounts of layers of white to get a solid coat but still just one highlight.

@Doi : Very goog ogres. Nice and crisp painting. I like it.

Thanks for the comment.

I'm having troubles figuring out how to take the pictures with the same settings from months to month. I should be able to find the correct recipe before the end of the tales :)

Don't worry, it took me over a full TOFP to figure out how to get half decent photos and I still cant do an army shot to save myself!

@Doi: Looks mighty good as always. I like the golden lion atop the standard. Nice touch!

Thanks for the comment.

Doi: Congratulations on finishing your biggest Ogre units, I wish I could say the same. The metallics on this month's submission look particularly nice.

Well there is still a unit of four Ironguts to go...

I was last to comment last time so I figured i'd pull my finger out this month, but first
Thanks for the comments all, and @doc_cthulhu, I completely agree, It was my first real attempt at eyes and I think they came out moderately well but I'm going to do some more experimenting this month with different eye styles.

Comments:
@Harry: As always, very nice Minis. The shields really stand out and make the knights look all the more frightening. The pale horses are my favorite part by far though. They just look, natural I guess is the best word. The spiders are vicious to say the least> very interesting design and really makes a statement

@Krzyek: Sooooo shinyyyyyy.... Hehe, the captain look great. I love the helmet, it really stands out as an individual!

@Ego Ninja: From what's posted at the time of this comment,I can already tell hes going to look just epic... As for the mage, the shading on the orb and staff are really effective.

@Braad: Oh good God, sooo coool! The whole piece just comes together so well and the spitfire circumpunct on the wing is a really nice touch

@jahorin: The priest and king are very nice, yet the Scorpion just dominates in terms of effect. The eyes contrast really well with the scales and body armour. Just so nice!

@doc_cthulhu: Great work! The book is just incredible and all the little details just bring him together so well

@Matrim_Cauthon: Every steam tank on here is just as impressive as the last, really nice work! The halflings are just so cool, Yay Napoleon! The dark elves are just brutal and the banner is very impressive

@Dark Apostle: Once again, Every steam tank on here is just as impressive as the last, really nice work! It really works well with the rest of the force

@Fluffystuff: Jaw dropping. Just so well painted, the attention to detail is incredible. i hope my Kroak is this nice when I get around to him.

@Desert Rain: The conversions are seamless IMO and really stand out as a distinctly person unit. The cloaks could use a little refinement but still nice

@Bluesabre: Very cool! the cold ones are especially impressive as are the helmets.

@Avian: As always, very nice work. its such a shame that the underside wont be seen often, Its just awesome, and very creepy.

@nkick: The spear chuckas look really nice. the Shieldy bit as you put definitely stand out and seem like a logical conversion, very nicely done

@Emperor Norton: Both units as a whole really come together and you can almost feel them bearing down on you. The detain and shading is great too.

@8bitMummies: I cant wait to see that unit finished. The drummer is just awesome

@Doi: As always, just excellent. The banner is exceptional. Bad luck about the Gnoblars

@someone2040: That dragon is just astoundingly awesome. It really comes together well. The wizard has to be one of my favorite models i've seen in a long time. I'll have to find a Mordheim shop

@Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull: I love boar boys, they really look nasty! The boars really stand out for me as their fur is really well done

@Gargobot: The mage is very impressive. I think the colours are fine on him from the pic.

@Malorian: Yay Lizards! Wow at the chief with the cloak. Never even thought of doing it that way. The colour combonation really stands out and looks great.

@Dakkapantz: Now thats another cool model ill have to pickup sometime. The tattoos really bring it together, and the torso/head is just awesome.

@Grebulon: The coldones are great and the assassin just looks awesome. Cloak/hood works great against the red/gold

@Giledan: That knight is just awesome, no other word or comment for it. The standard is very well executed but a little underwhelming, not sure why though. Still very nice though!

@Dino: Epic! The detail is great and he looks very natural!

As Shazarn says... spitfire!
I was first thinking about painting some kind of eye, but just circles seemed better to me, and they suit my 'warplane' much better.

And we all know large targets tend to draw fire. Nothing wrong with provoking a bit :D

I really need some more flyers in my army... the OAF (Orcish Air Force) will be victorious!

Thanks a lot for the great comments, everyone!
I'll attempt to find some time to write some myself.

Also, yesterday I finished half my entry for coming month. The avatars of war orc boss. Now I need to work on Wurrzag.

Army: Hochland Empire
Models: Empire Captain On Pegasus & 10 Handgunners
Points: 250 (ish) (Captain has Doomfire Ring and Biting Blade, Handgunners have Marksman with Hochland Long Rifle)
Painting: I really liked painting the captain it is a great old school model...the only problem was all the white areas on the Pegasus, but I think they came out ok...Gold is Tin Bitz, Shining Gold, Devlan Mud...Green & Red is as before on previous entries.
Highs: Painting the Captain with his awesome moustache!
Lows: Painting the rank and file is getting a little repetitive, but I'm balancing it out by 'rewarding' myself with a character or something more interesting for every 10 normal chaps I paint

Apologies for the double post, but I was lame and did not comment last month so wanted to do it while I was online...

@Harry: Solid work as ever..I always look forward to your entry to see what older models you've dusted off this month! I am liking the older style shields and may use them on my Empire...
@Krzyek: I love the Bull helmet conversion and think the freehand you have done on the captain is excellent. I love the Templar Grand Master model and think the horns on the helmet in particular have been very well done
@Ego Ninja: Hard to comment but base colours look neat and tidy...will have to wait until the big boy is finished before I can comment properly
@Braad: Hard to see all of the wizard, but his crystal ball looks ace. The repositioned wyvern with the Balrog legs is a fantastic conversion and looks suitably impressive - Good job!
@jahorin: Great model for the Tomb Scorpion (where is it from?) Really like the mix between the bone and gold areas and the glowing green eyes look sinister - which is a good thing if you are a massive reanimated undead construct!
@doc_cthulhu: Great work on Skrolk..in particular the tarnishing on the bells and the green warp stone look of the censer have been done really well
@Shazam: Well done for painting so much stuff this month! I think you have done a good job shading the orange hair on the slayers and think maybe the skin areas could benefit from a wash to provide shading as well - maybe GW Ogryn Flesh?
@Matrim_Cauthon: The Stank is superb, great work on the metallics. Napolean/Elvis halflings are great models and made me laugh when I saw them! The DE Executioners are suitably dark and menacing and I like the Champ's cloak with the freehand
@Dark Apostle: Another great looking Stank!...like the crests and the burn marks on the turret cannon
@Fluffystuff: Lovely Slann...very detailed base as always and I like the Coral Snake on the palanquin
@Desert Rain: I really like the cavalry you have converted to Dragon Princes...as a first attempt I think the cloaks look very good.
@Bluesabre: The cold Ones look really good and I like the freehand on the banners...the gold armour looks a little flat but this might just be the photos?
@Avian: The yellow armout and the hourglass look great...I love the underside of the disc as well
@nkick: Well done on the joker buy backs...looks like your shamen suffered a pretty bad miscast!
@Emperor Norton: Your White Wolves look really good all lined up...Knights Panther look good - although are the white feathers meant to be yellow???...I feel your pain about the horses - I find them really repetitive to paint too...
@8bitMummies: I like what you have done...just do more!
@Doi: As ever, I think your flesh is painted really well...the banner design looks very good as well
@someone2040: The dragon has been painted very well and I really like the Mordheim mage - its a great figure
@Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull: Really like your boarboys, especiallyt the dark tone of the orc skin which I think looks better than the lighter shades you sometimes see
@Gargobot: I think the colour combo on the wizard works well. The yellow and purple robes are very well done - did you paint them separately?
@Malorian: Well done for the heroic amount of models painted - you are a trooper!...Very brave to go for a yello/black combo and I think it works well...I love the skink with the steg helmet!
@Dakkapantz: Skin tone looks good and the blue/wode tattoos work really well
@Grebulon: I really like the Master on cold one and think the basing works well so you should def. finish basing the spearmen in the same way
@Giledan: I like your painting style - it is very neat and clean and your colours are very strong
@Dino: Very characterful - I think the gold could do with some more shading though?

Well done everyone and look forward to seeing you all next month...

Comment time!

Harry (Empire): Good to see them keep coming but I don't know how you keep your self motivated when every model is the same.

Krzyek: Nice conversion (although it looks a bit more chaos(y) than empire(y).

Ego Ninja: Well that's a good start on the thirster. We'll have to see how it ends up next month. Mage looks cool. Too bad the face is blocked.

Braad: Ha ha! It's finally done! Looks great :)

Harry (goblins): Spiders look cool. How well does the character fit on it?

jahorin: That scorpion looks WAY better than the current version, and good job on the chariot.

doc_cthulhu: Love the small painting in the book, but shouldn't the city be in ruins rather than on fire going with the theme?

Shazarn: I just got to see a 4K slayer army in action. I have new found fear of your army ;)

Matrim_Cauthon: Wow... that steam tank is amazing! Executioners are also nice and not too flashy.

Dark Apostle: Nice steam tank. Are you going to put a name on the banner?

fluffystuff: Once again your stuff looks so perfect it could be straight from the army book. Well done!

Desert Rain: Interesting conversion. I'd certainly have no problem with it.

Bluesabre: Nice work on the banner. Cool that you did both sides and that they are even different.

Avian: Shame all that detail is hidden on the bottom and out of site.

nkicik: Sucks when models break just when you finish painting them. Hope it doesn't need many touch ups. Old Anzhag is a funny model.

EmperorNorton: 20 knights is a lot of work for a single month. Well done.

8bitMummies: the musician conversion is perfect.

Doi: Don't worry about the gnoblars. After the green they go really quick.

someone2040: That dragon looks very top heavy... does it fall to the side a lot?

Warlord Ghazak Kazhkull: The boar boyz look great. The one leaning over is club is my favorite.

Gargobot: Mage looks very cool, and good highlighting all around.

gsmc: A joker? Come on!!! ;)

Dakkapantz: That model looks very good. The shading and everything is spot on.

Grebulon: That's a good number of dark elves. Keep it up!

Giledan: That red really pops out at you!

Dino: Did you have trouble with the wings? I tore mine off after regluing them way too many times. Army is coming together well.

Jim: I've never seen that model before. Very nice.

Again i am a little late with my entry. Illness and a new job has taken care of that.

Army: Empire Averland

This month: 21 Spearmen with full command (151) and 6 Handgunners (48) and a mounted captain (i am not going to count him, as he was more of an experiment. Doubt i will eve use him)
Total: 199 points

They have all been painted rather quickly. The spearmen especially are quite boring to paint and to look at. At least i am finished with 3 of my 4 infantry blocks. Still have 24 greatswords in the pipeline as well as cavalry and more artillery and characters... phew!
I did the green knight captain because i had the model lying around and i really like it, but never wanted to play bretonnia. I cut off all the fleur de lys and changed the bannerpole and voila! I actually quite like the result but unfortunately i almost never use a mounted captain in my armies. Maybe i should start doing that. There are a few more pictures of him in the empire support group thread for those interested.

Dice roll: 6

Here are the pictures:

Harry- They're sweet. It's nice to see how much a good paint job can make the older mini's look brand new.

Krzyek- Solid paint job. Good work on those!

Ego Ninja- Not finished I presume, since you say “month 1 out or 2.5”? Well, looking forward to see you getting to that finish line!

Ego Ninja (again!)- The wizard looks great. Could have maybe used something like a rim on the robe to break the blew.

Harry- Those little spiders are sooo cute! I like the colour scheme on those.

Jahorin- Nice model. Never seen that one before. Great paint job you pulled off!

doc_cthulhu- Cool freehand you did in the book. And do I see a bit of OSL? Sweet!

Shazarn- You're gonna put all those naked dwarves in a snow theme? Ouch... poor lill'uns. Anyway, looks great. Though maybe some of the eyes could be slightly less white.

Mathrim_cauthon- Very neat paintjob on that tank. Looks awesome. It suddenly makes me wonder how such a model would look like when adorned with a lot of spikey bits and covered by goblins and snotlings... The halflings are just sweet. Especially your famous command group.

Mathrim-cauthon- And you're astonishing me again. Great paintjob on those elves!

Dark Apostle- And another Stank. Solid job on that one too. It's really inspiring me!

Fluffystuff- That one looks so great! And I totally adore the base. Excellent job!

Desert Rain- Those dragon princes look quite majestic. Sweet.

Bluesabre- Nice cold ones. Their skin tone look really natural.

Avian- The flying disc madness you created lately is awesome! Good to see they just keep coming!

Nkicik- Orcs & Gobbo's for da win! A bid sad due to the broken arm, but you must have fixed that by now. Great job anyway! Keep 'm coming!

EmperorNorton- Always looks great, such a large unit of knights. Nice job on those!

EmperorNorton- And even more! Also very sweet stuff!

Doi- I changed it in the table. You'll see it next update. Nice ogres too! Can we soon expect some gnoblars to go with them, or won't you be doing those?

Someone2040- Weird... at the moment I saw your name, Blind Guardian sang “There's someone...” in the background...
Anyway, sweet to see an actual flying dragon! I was also thinking about something like that with a wyvern, but 4 of those would be a bit overkill... Great paintjob on all those! Looking forward to seeing what you're gonna do to the bases. Maybe attempt to hide the wires a bit?

Warlord Ghazak Ghazhkull- Great to see those boarboyz up and running! Very nicely converted!

Gargobot- Nice models. Clean and solid paintjob on those.

Malorian- Great colour-scheme. It's always good to see non-blue lizards.

Dakkapantz- Don't feel guilty. It's a great model, and you've done it justice.

Grebulon- Nice painting. Keep it going!

Giledan- Maybe the paintjob looks a bit too 'clean' for my liking, but nonetheless well done. Very neatly painted!

Dino- Great Dwarves you got there. Too bad you're dropping out with your warriors, but finishing one army is still quite an achievement!

Jim- That's an old one, isn't it? Great moustach... I mean, model! Keep it up!

Tonyflow- Looks great! The army is really coming together, and the black and yellow turns out to be a solid choice for army colours.

....

And an update! Finished Wurzagg's boar. Also making good progress on his mask. Now the rest of the model... But I'm also working on a small graveyard, and in real life I'm also helping my parents in their new house (the whole family will be moving around in the coming few months), so dunno how soon he will be done.

Alright Dakkapantz, you and I are the only ones with fours. I'll try to post on more people next monthe, but I'm kinda busy with school because of finals and preparations for a trip to Germany. Here comes the critique:

First, i must say I think this model looks very clean and professional. The face is well done, there are a lot of nicely blended highlights and I like the yellow on his loincloth. What do you think gives you such clean colors, and how did you do your yellow? I'd like to paint Imperial Fists but I can't get it to look right, but I like your yellow. The body paint also looiks great, and I was impressed that you even highlighted that. I tihnk the only things I noticed could have very well been the photograph, but it looked like there were a couple dark spots on the loincloth; one beneath the knife and the other on the back, that maybe should be lighter. It sort of looked like a little bit of grey from the knife got on his ribs area as well but again I think that might just be the picture tricking me. Very good job, I think that you paint to a very professional standard!

Kryzek: I like the yellowish tone of the models, though that might be a result of the camera (is it?). The bull's head helmet is awesome.

Ego Ninja (daemons): Looking good so far

Ego Ninja (empire): Nice robes and awesome orbs!

Braad: Lovely painting, I especially like the wing membranes.

Harry: Nice painting on the spiders, they look pretty realistic.

Jahorin: The scorpion looks nice, I like the green eyes. The king is excellent.

Doc_Cthulhu: Great painting, he looks suitably diseased. Lovely work on his book.

Shazarn: Nice painting, the musician's eyes are funny :)

Matrim_Cauthon (empire): Lovely metal on the steam tank. Also cool halflings, the guy with the glasses is ace.

Matrim_Cauthon (dark elves): Nice looking unit. I really like the banner.

Dark Apostle: Nice steam tank, and the army looks grea when they're all together.

Fluffystuff: Possible the best Slann I've ever seen. Lovely base as well.

Bluesabre: I like the natural tone on the cold ones and the freehands on the banner.

Avian: I really like the disc, it looks suitably grotesque.

Nkicik: Sweet stuff, I whink you've done well on the biggies.

EmperorNorton: Looking good. I like the different colours of the horses.

8bitMummies: The gors look nice and the cygor is awesome. Better luck next month.

Doi: Nice ogres, they look great when they're all together.

Someone2040: Cool mage and dragon

Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull: Nicely done boar boyz you've got there.

Gargobot: The huntsmen look really good, and I think that I agree with you on the wizard.

Malorian: Nice colour scheme you've got there, they actually look like lizards.

Dakkapantz: Nice work on the skin and the tattoos.

Grebulon: Nice work on your dark elves.

Giledan: Nice with a cleanly painted Chaos army, I've never seen that before. A little tip; I think that the eyes on the knight's shield could use some pupils ;)
Dino: Really nice work on the lord. The army looks great when they are all together.

Jim: I like the pegasus, but I think it would look event better if you painted it's eyes black instead of white.

TonyFlow: Well better late than never ;) Nice looking units as well.

PAGE ONE
Harry : The Reiksguard Knights look great, and your army really comes together. Your Giant Spider has some nice contrast with the red and black. Can't wait to see the Night Goblins when there's more of them.
Kryzek : Sweet looking Captain. The conversion looks very nice, and definately doesn't look the conventional sorts. The Grand master looks good as well.
Ego Ninja : Looks like you've got some solid base colours for the Thirster, can't wait to see how he turns out. Your Heavens wizard looks really nice, like the effect on the ball. Would be great to see him at more angles.
Braad : Both Wyverns look fantastic. I would perhaps consider leaving a bit of dirt showing through the grass in spots, to keep the bases a bit more lively than an overdose of green.
Jahorin : Your models look very nice - I'd consider taking the pictures under the same light though. The Tomb King and Liche Priest pictures are notably darker.
Doc_Cthulu : Skrolk looks suitably dirty. Looks like he's come out really well.
Shazarn : Slayers look good en masse, but closer up it doesn't look like they've been washed (Which I know you've said you've done). Maybe it's the pictures, or perhaps not enough highlighting. I'd also be careful with the eyes, they're tricky. Some of them look like googly eyes unfortunately.
Matrim_Cauthon : The Steam tank looks stunning. Your metal technique is really good, wish I could do steel that well! (Something I've avoided mostly due to Lizardmen). The Halfing spearmen also look neat - are they the Witch Hunter hounds I spy? Or different models? The Executioners also look pretty neat, I don't think the gold stands out too much (But could be just hte pictures).
Dark Apostle : Sweet, another nicely done Steam Tank. Great looking piece.
Fluffystuff : Your Slann is very nicely done. The texture on the Slann's skin really works, and the whole piece just seems to sit nicely together.
Desert Rain : The archers look very nice, so do the Dragon Princes. I would consider blending the cloaks a bit more though. From the pictures it seems it jumps from a blue to a white almost immediately. Cloaks are a great place to have fun blending, so give it a shot.
BlueSabre : Your Cold One Knights look great. Like the freehand you've done on the banner.
Avian : Nice Exalted hero. The yellow is really nicely done.
Nkicik : I agree that some of your stuff looks a bit flat. The Shaman looks fine to me (Pin that arm, should help). Just gotta higlight up and it'll end up looking fine in the end.
EmperorNorton : Great looking White Wolves. I would considering mixing the horses around (As you've got brown -> white -> brown). I think it might make things look a bit more interesting (I plot out what colours my horses are gonna be so there's nothing too similar next to each other).

PAGE TWO
EmperorNorton : The Knights Panther look nice. I think the presentation here is better due to the above mentioned of mixing around the horses :)
8BitMummies : Flaked out maybe, but what you've shown looks pretty good. Can't wait to see the Cygor painted up.
Doi : Ogres looking great. The army really fits together. Perhaps slightly different markings on banners in the future - so you can tell which unit is which :).
Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull : The Boar Boyz look really cool. Maybe throw on some dead grass or something, so it's not all just dirt on those bases.
Gargobot : Huntsman look very nice. The colours really go with the dark brown. I don't think the colours on the Gold Wizard look bad.
Malorian : Certainly an interesting colour scheme for the Lizards. Hard to tell if it's done or not, but consider highlighting the scales. Great to see use of the Tehenhauin model - I've got 2 and ashamably haven't even opened either :(
Dakkapantz : Truthsayer looks awesome. Really well painted. I would like to paint mine, but Australia says NO to Albion :(
Grebulon : The Dark Elves look nice. Some wonky angles on some of these pictures though.
Giledan : Maybe a dissapointing total, but the painting doesn't dissapoint. The models are painted really nicely.
Dino : Lord looks pretty cool. The army looks like it's coming together nicely.

PAGE THREE
Jim : The Pegasus Captain looks nice. Kinda agree about the white, it's decent enough though. I'd say the only minor thing that throws off the model is the Captain sticking his legs out so far, looks kinda odd!
TonyFlow : The Averlanders look great. The whole army just looks stunning altogether like that.

REPLIES
Matrim Cauthon : Thanks. Seems like red may be my colour, as I got some praise on my Blood Angels I've been painting while at GW as well (Although, Blood Angels are of course, a brighter red).
Dark Apostle : Yeah, it's a really really nice figure. Unfortunately I don't think it's going to rank up very well with the big staff, so I'm going to be painting up another wizard lord later on. This guy will serve as the foot version of a Pegasus Wizard Lord I'm converting.
Malorian : Hmm... To be honest, falling over hasn't been much of an issue. The Wings kinda balance it out. It's more of a problem, that he comes off! As the Dragon isn't glued down for transport, tends to be grabbing the dragon to move him... and well... comes straight off half the time.
Braad : Hiding the wires is one reason I haven't based him yet. Just trying to come up with a good way to do everything I want (A, hide the poles, B have a human running in fear from him). I think maybe a tree of some sorts, but then... two tree's standing in a straight line in the middle of nowhere looks kinda odd... so I'm a bit stumped.

man.. who is running a 4K slayer army!?
I thought mine was large at 2500 I couldn't imagine another 70 some odd slayers running on the table.

ahh
Ahh
AHH
AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
(jumps out the window)

i'm balancing a lot with munchkin here, but i have about a day or two a week consistently.. i'll post pics in the next couple of days, but I managed to get my gyrocopter done and i'm finishing up 10 more thunderers.. i'll just rotate on armies.. next up are 5 swordmen and 5 archers for empire

What about having a burning human run from him?

What you could do, is use pine trees. You could have a few more of those, as they tend to be taller and thinner, and thus break the 'line' idea.
You could also check out railway modelling shops. They have some very wide trees that might be big enough to hide both wires in one go.

hi guys,
im emigrating to australia on the 5th april and have been packing up some of my huge collection of miniatures. i hopefully will get back to painting once im settled over there, so i will hopefully complete the 2000pts in due course (dont rule me out just yet). best luck to the rest of you though.

ARMY : Lizardmen 2000ish pts

UNIT: Oldblood, Blade of Realities, something, something, Carnosaur!

BUILD/CONVERSION: Sword from Cold One cavalry, shield from temple guard with some feathers added from the infantry standards, head also from Saurus warriors.

STILL TO DO: Base and probably some small details.

HIGHS AND LOWS: Took a while, but I think he looks pretty nice now.

POINTS : already gave myself 200 for building, would be another 250 now I think.

@Doi: As always, just excellent. The banner is exceptional. Bad luck about the Gnoblars

Thanks. I've at least enough Ogres to last me another four months before I have to hit the gnoblars.

@Doi: As ever, I think your flesh is painted really well...the banner design looks very good as well

Thanks for the comment.

Doi: Don't worry about the gnoblars. After the green they go really quick.

I don't think I'm going to go with a green. Maybe a blue green but I'm heading in a more blue grey direction.

Doi- I changed it in the table. You'll see it next update. Nice ogres too! Can we soon expect some gnoblars to go with them, or won't you be doing those?

Ta, muchly. There will be gnoblars (in fact there is one on a leadbelcher this month) but not for a while. Still indecisive on a colour scheme.

Doi: Nice ogres, they look great when they're all together.

Thanks for the comment.

Doi : Ogres looking great. The army really fits together. Perhaps slightly different markings on banners in the future - so you can tell which unit is which :).

I actually settled on making all of the banners the same so that there is something that ties the units together since I've gone for the random pants colouring approach.

Where are you moving to down here?

@ Jim: Very nice. I'm actually quite surprised at how striking the characters moustache is. It doesn't seem out of place, don't get me wrong, but it is certainly an attention grabber

@ Tony Flow: Great stuff. Averland makes for a very impressive looking force colour wise. The Mounted Captain conversion looks good but the Bret helmet still makes him stand out as a Bret model, I think an Empire Knight head swap would have done wonders. And I've got to ask, what's with the blank base? Is it just to look pretty when you go from a 7x3 to a 5x4 +1 formation?

EDIT: Ninja'd! Great looking Carnosaur C-Coen. The natural colour of the mount contrasts well with the bright rider.

I once drank about 6L of lime fanta with my mates on a Friday night once. you can never have enough green.

Update for me: Im swamped with other stuff until near the end of the month so next month's entries might be a little late

thanks again to everyone for the feedback
I'm messing around with different washes and how to make the eyes less poppy. Initial tests are working out well and I'm quite happy with them. Next month for me will be another hero (can't decide between ungrim or giant slayer, both look just awesome) and makaisson. The hewer is real fun, except I broke my big drill bit clearing green stuff out of a join (don't ask lol)

Hey folks, been a while since I've popped in to TOFP so thought I'd take this opportunity to come across & comment on some stuff. Am not going to comment on everyone's stuff, just those regular TOFP that I know from previous years & anything that particularly catches my eye so don't be offended if I haven't commented on your stuff!

@ Harry - very nice Empire & Gobbo stuff, like the use of the Quest spiders as snotlings (I love anything quest related!)

@ Ego Ninja - looking forward to seeing that Bloodthirster finished & liking that wizard very much but could we see a front facing shot of it?

@ Braad - very nice Wyvern & glad to see that it's already brought you some joy game wise

@ Matrim_Cauthon - that is a gorgeous steam tank & loving those halflings too. Also some excellent work on the dark elves

@ Dark Apostle - that is a gorgeous steam tank...wait a minute...deja vu?! Seriously though a very nicely painted miniature

@ fluffystuff - once again some an absolutely stunning miniature from you, the painting is exceptional & that base is top stuff too. sorry to hear about the personal problems but is good that everything seems to be ok now

@ Bluesabre - another good entry to your Dark Elf army, any chance of an army shot as it must be looking pretty impressive now

@ Avian - very nice miniature, has it been converted from a chaos warrior? Loving the underside of the disc, hope you find lots of excuses to take it off the flying stand to show off!

@ EmporerNorton - veru nice knights for both your armies

@ 8bitmummies - a newcomer since my time but those beastmen are simply stunning. Can't wait to see the paint job you do on that Cygor

@ Doi - it still takes me a while to get used to seeing one of your armies not on snow! (my idea for a OK army ironically is going to have them on snow too!). Very nice stuff, those skin tones in particular are excellent

@ someone2040 - very nice stuff, the positioning of that dragon is ace, are you going to disguise the rods somehow?

@ ghazak - excellent boar boy riders.

Man this month hasn't been going to good for me... really hard to stay motivated to paint these bloody saurus with all those black spots...

By my painting plan I should had had another unit of spear saurus and a unit of skinks done by now but I've only done a rank of each... groan...

Doesn't help that I just got a bunch of new video games :D

I also looked at my points and realized that in 6 months I won't be able to make my 4K goal if I keep just painting core, so I've decided that April will be Operation Penta-Steg! Five stegadons in one month... that should be just what I need to get back on track ;)

Just have to get through this month first :( *sigh*

Cool looking terrain Braad, and the shaman is coming along well too. I'm currently working on a conversion using that model but it's been in limbo ever since I learned you can't put regular orc shamans in chariots :cries:

It's silly, isn't it. But great shamans can, so maybe that's an option? It's also quite likely to be an oversight, so maybe your friends won't mind if you still do it?

Ok, Sorry for being so late, Febs work is:

ARMY: Dwarfs (2000 Points)

UNIT: 19 Dwarf Warriors

BACKGROUND/THEME: Yellow, like the rest of the army.

BUILD/CONVERSION: No conversions or anything special in here, they are about half and half new warriors and skull pass warriors though.

PAINTING: Undercoated black. Same flesh and metal that I’ve done with everything so far.

BASING: Gritty sand, painted black. I haven’t decided how I’m going to base the army yet. Leaning towards a snowy mountain look at the moment.

STILL TO DO: Just the bases, and maybe redo the banner as I don’t think it looks very good at the moment.

HIGHS AND LOWS: Nothing major here, although I had forgotten the grind to do a whole regiment of guys at once, I’m gonna break up any big regiments in future I think.

POINTS: 196

TOTAL POINTS: 1426

Coming next month, a bolt thrower and some longbeards.

DICE ROLL:5

Hey Braad, or whoevers totalling the points, the total you've got for me is off a by a bit. I'm at 1425 now, if you could change it for next months list that'd be grand thanks..:D

Also I don't seem to be able to upload my photos, so I'm gonna try again tonight.

And, comments time.

I rolled a 5 so here goes,

@Harry: Really nice knights man, they look great grouped together as well.

@Braad: Sweet Shaman, loving that Wyvern too.

@doc_cthulu: Great rat, really filthy looking.

@Matrim_Cauthon: Very clean stank, looks fresh out of the foundry, any plans to dirty it up? although it does look great as it is. Hehe really like those halflings as well. Also very menacing executioners too mate.

@DarkApostle: Another clean stank, looks great too.

@Bluesabre: Great looking knights, I wish my Lizzies cold ones looked that good.

@Dino: Great looking Lord, I was never very intrested in that mini, although I do have it. But looking at yours is making me want to paint my one.

Hmmmm, I've added the pics, but they seem to be staying very small abd I'm not sure why.....oh well.

The totalling is done just by adding up the bits I fill in each time you post. So either you forgot to post, or I missed it. Can you check back for each month how much you painted?
Otherwise I'll just fill in something, but it's nicer to have the right figure.

Sweet as Braad, probably me filling it out wrong.

The first 3 months are all good, for month 4 I did my Lord@ 266pts, month 5 was 10 Thunderers@ 140, month 6 I did a Gyrocopter @ 140 and my Battle Standard Bearer @ 120 so 260pts for that month.

And this month is the 19 warriors@ 196. So all up 1426pts.

Thanks man.

After I couldn't find the time for comments last month I at least managed it this time around.

@Harry: Great job, as usual. The horses are especially well done (I feel like I can appreciate that better now).
The spiders look good, too, as far as my arachnophobia allows me to admit that.

@Kryzek: The bull mask is really cool.

@Ego Ninja: Looking forward to seeing the Bloodthirster finished.
The wizard looks good, especially the sphere in his hands, as well as the one on his staff.

@Braad: The blue circle on the wing is a bit weird, but aside from that the Wyvern looks great. The Snotlings on the base are a nice addition.

@jahorin: That scorpion looks mean. Itís the glowing green eyes.

@doc_cthulhu: The freehand on Skrolkís book is amazing and the OSL from his censer is very well done, too.

@Shazarn: I like the army shot, as I canít imagine anything in the Warhammer world that wouldnít turn around and run when seeing that many Slayers coming its way.

@Matrim_Cauthon: The Steam Tank looks perfect. Staring down the barrel of its gun makes me a bit uncomfortable, though.
The Executioners look great as well. Did you do something special with the blades?

@Dark Apostle: The Steam Tank looks great, although I would have painted some of the details on the side in bronze/gold.

@fluffystuff: Perfection, there is no other word for it.

@Desert Rain: Good job on the conversion, I especially like the long cloak on the middle one, the champion I presume?

@Bluesabre: Great banner and very nice bases, especially in combination with the movement tray.

@Avian: The underside of that disc creeps me out.

@nkicik: Congrats on getting so much stuff done!

@8bitMummies: Iím very much looking forward to seeing more of that Cygor. When can we expect that?

@Doi: Looking good, as usual. The banner is very nice. I donít know how you do it, but your white looks very clean and bright, I like that a lot.

@someone2040: Having the dragon completely in flight is a great idea. What do you have planned for the base?

@Warlord Ghazag Gazhkull: Good job, the extra detail on the wood parts goes a long way.

@Gargobot: As already stated in your log, I think that wizard is amazing. I might have to rethink playing against you when this is over, as my army will look horrible next to yours.

@Malorian: Are you, by any chance, a robot? Or is there another reason for you not needing sleep? I canít think of another explanation for the huge amounts of stuff you get painted.

@Dakkapantz: I had never seen that model before. After seeing your paintjob I am now keeping my eyes open to find one for my collection.

@Grebulon: I like the Dreadlord on Cold One. Is that a freehand on the shield? The Assassin looks a bit busy, maybe he has one colour too many on him.

@Giledan: Ooh, ooh, where does the standard bearer hide his shield? The horse looks great.

@Dino: Nice work as usual, especially because I find white hair hard to do properly, as you have here. He seems to lack a pupil in his left eye, though.

@Jim: Impressive Ďstache, indeed! The wings are fantastic and I think Iíll have to try your recipe for gold.

@TonyFlow: Why wouldnít you use your mounted captain? Itís a great model and well painted, what more can one want? And itís nice to see some of the old spearmen.

@C-Coen: The black dots on the Saurus are very well done. Sounds like a strange compliment, but I had trouble doing the black dots on my knightsí cloaks, so that explains it.

Seems like our numbers are dwindling. Sad.

Hopefully I'll be able to answer any comments on my stuff that need answering over the weekend.

All right, time for some comments on the comments ;)

@Matrim_Cauthon: I like the stank Ė your metallics look great. The spear(half)men are ace Ė I just love those minis! Executioners look fine.

@Matrim_Cauthon : Excellent steam tank, it looks very good. Nice and colourful unit of little guys.
@Matrim_Cauthon : Great work on the executionner. The unit look quite good.

Matrim_Cauthon (empire): Lovely metal on the steam tank. Also cool halflings, the guy with the glasses is ace.
Matrim_Cauthon (dark elves): Nice looking unit. I really like the banner.

Matrim_Cauthon: Cute (and well painted) halflings, and that Steam Tank is just beautiful. Your Dark Elves look intimidating as usual, and I like the subtle way you decorated the banner, it looks cryptic and frightening!

@ Matrim_Cauthon (Empire): Great work. The metal on the Steam Tank came out really well, nice and clean.
@ Matrim_Cauthon (DE): Very nice. I donít think the gold is too flashy at all, it suits quite well.

@Matrim_Cauthon: Every steam tank on here is just as impressive as the last, really nice work! The halflings are just so cool, Yay Napoleon! The dark elves are just brutal and the banner is very impressive

@Matrim_Cauthon: The Stank is superb, great work on the metallics. Napolean/Elvis halflings are great models and made me laugh when I saw them! The DE Executioners are suitably dark and menacing and I like the Champ's cloak with the freehand

Matrim_Cauthon: Wow... that steam tank is amazing! Executioners are also nice and not too flashy.

@ Matrim_Cauthon - that is a gorgeous steam tank & loving those halflings too. Also some excellent work on the dark elves

Thanks a lot guys! Super that you like the freehand on the banner... I was not sure of it myself.

I think that now you said it, everybody is wondering how a Stank covered in green guys would look :p.

@Matrim_Cauthon: The Steam Tank looks perfect. Staring down the barrel of its gun makes me a bit uncomfortable, though.
The Executioners look great as well. Did you do something special with the blades?

Thanks! Yeah I like that shot too :).

The blades are painted Boltgun Metal, washed Badab Black mixed with Asurmen Blue, and then the sharp ends are highlighted in stripes with Mithril Silver. It's pretty rough, but I like the effect!

@Matrim_Cauthon: Very clean stank, looks fresh out of the foundry, any plans to dirty it up? although it does look great as it is. Hehe really like those halflings as well. Also very menacing executioners too mate.

Thanks! No real plans to dirty it up... I am not very good at weathering. And I don't really mind the clean look.

@Matrim_Cauthon - Great work! Where did you get the halflings? The druchii look absolutely great even though I'm not quite sure about the green grass bases.

Those little dudes are Black Hat Miniatures (http://www.blackhat.co.uk/). Yeah, the bases on my Druchii are a shame, but I started them this way and I like consistency all the way through the army. I might end up changing the lot of them though!

Yep those are the witch hunter dogs... the warband itself is also waiting to be painted and I will use them as flagellants (of course). I Also have a Sisters of Sigmar warband in the pipeline, they might pass as free company, or another unit of flagellants.

It seems like I will have to use my reclaimed joker this month :(
I've finished 5 maiden guards and still have 4 left as well as an eagle and I doubt that I'll be able to finish them next week since I have to do some studying for an upcoming exam. I'll try my best to get them painted.

Comments!

@Dark Apostle - Really solid work!

Thanks a lot!

@Dark Apostle: Your metal looks better than mine! The cannons especially are well executed!

Nah, I like your metal too. Different than mine, sure, but not worse in any way.

@Dark Apostle : Wow, great steam tank on your part. The plates are really great with all the detailling.

Thank you!

Dark Apostle: Geez, another gorgeous Steam Tank! You guys have gotta share your secrets to getting such smooth metallics. Good muted colors.

Go for multiple layers with thinned paint. I find that to be even more important with metallics than regular paint.

@ Dark Apostle: Great work. How did you paint the cannon? Pretty sure it wasn’t covered by the Boltgun + Chainmail method :p.

Indeed not! It's a basecoat of Tin bitz, several layers dwarven bronze, liberal wash with devlan mud, drybrush with dwarven bronze, drybrush cahinmail, glaze ogre flesh (I think, can't really remember - which is a problem if I'd want to repeat it elsewhere of course...). Then wash some VMC jade green in assorted places, and then an "inverted" highlight on those spots with a mix of jade green + skull white. Easy as that - if only the dwarven bronze would cover - at all...

@Dark Apostle: Once again, Every steam tank on here is just as impressive as the last, really nice work! It really works well with the rest of the force

The make for quite stunning pieces, don't they? A really nice kit. Except I hate painting with metallics. They're so messy!

@Dark Apostle: Another great looking Stank!...like the crests and the burn marks on the turret cannon

I figured I had to do something extra on the turret cannon - glad you like it!

Dark Apostle: Nice steam tank. Are you going to put a name on the banner

Yeah, as soon as I can figure out what to name it. In the fluff it's "perpetuum immobile", but I think that's way too many letters to fit in nicely. Five or six on each side would probably fit better.

Dark Apostle- And another Stank. Solid job on that one too. It's really inspiring me!

Dark Apostle: Nice steam tank, and the army looks grea when they're all together.

Dark Apostle : Sweet, another nicely done Steam Tank. Great looking piece.

@ Dark Apostle - that is a gorgeous steam tank...wait a minute...deja vu?! Seriously though a very nicely painted miniature

@DarkApostle: Another clean stank, looks great too.

Tank you guys! (pun intended :))

@Dark Apostle: The Steam Tank looks great, although I would have painted some of the details on the side in bronze/gold.

I pondered that option, but I decided to be a bit restrictive on the gold detailing, and keep it to the more special ornaments. Still, I think more gold would have looked good too, I see a lot of people doing it that way. But you can also see on my banner knight that the gold ornaments are pretty restrictive, so I think it's fitting for the army as a whole to keep it that way.

cheers /DA

Maybe with one of those 40K Deff kopta pilots in it...

This isn't really a joker, more of an IOU. I've had a unit of Chaos knights painted since about the 12th, but I've misplaced my camera charger so I can't actually post the pictures of them. I'll post them along with March's submission at the beginning of next month.

Sorry, folks. :o

forgot i saw this earlier.. i wish i could remember what happened in this... it was a green and gray wave of ogres and orcs and as expected the slayers held their own.. but the second a hole opened up in the first line, it was up to two units of warriors, long beards, and ironbreakers were up against the most solid of their two armies.. i'll have to sit down and figure up with the other two players what happened but it was decided a draw the next day (the game lasted every bit of 5 hours and would have gone on longer if i didn't get the call from the wife to come home.
i did manage to make a roll of a double 1 in a make or break combat though! that was AWESOME!

Sorry for the very late comments:

Harry: Lovely knights, I really like what youíve done with the barding.

Krzyek: That is a wicked cool captain conversion. Nice painting too.

Ego Ninja: Damn it that I didnít wait with my wizard; I couldíve asked how you painted the crystal balls on yours. Looks super awesome!

Braad: Very good paint job, nice markings on the wyvern and the orc.

Harry (again): Kinda looks like a mother spider with her brood. Well painted btw.

jahorin: The vintage scorpion looks way better than the current TK ones, especially with such a paint job. King and priest look good too.

doc_cthulhu: Very nice Skrolk, the freehand in his book looks stunning.

Shazarn: A lot of slayers again. They look good, though a little less white for the eyes could help.

Matrim_Cauthon: Very cool stank, even used it as reference for my own. Sexy DEs too.

Dark Apostle: Thanks for your tips on the stank, of course I also used yours for reference.

fluffystuff: Astonishing painting again. And the base is just delicious. :p
Desert Rain: Nice idea for the ĎDPsí, and your gems are getting better and better.

Bluesabre: Love the realistic skin tone on the Cold Ones.

Avian: Iím impressed how you come up with new ideas for the discs everytime. Lovely painting again.

nkicik: I know where youíre coming from, the crew for my Helblaster are the minis I had the most fun painting so far. I wouldnít be so hard on yourself, your minis look absolutely fine.

EmperorNorton: Iím always impressed how much you get done, you painted more than twice as many knights as I did, and took only half the time I needed. Iím really looking forward to see your army in action.

8bitMummies: Thatís a very cool nurglyfication (yay for made up words) of the giant.

Doi: The master of the skin strikes again, and he brings awesome white and dares to freehand on it. Nice!

someone2040: Very good wizard, though the color choice reminds me of jedis. ^^ Asarnil looks really cool.

Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull: Great boar boyz, I know everyone moans about those minis. But if everyone painted them as good as you did yours, I wouldnít mind if GW kept them like that.

Malorian: Cool color scheme for lizzies.

Dakkapantz: Nice work on the skin. Whole mini looks great.

Grebulon: Good painting, especially the hero.

Giledan: I really like your clean painting style, very well done.

Dino: I think I already said so in your log, but anyway thatís a very nice Dwarf Lord.

Jim: Great job on the captain. And very nice mini, itís a shame it goes on ebay for prizes a little too high for my taste. And as always Hochland ftw! ^^

TonyFlow: Iím impressed by your output, and the quality of it. Very good looking Averland army.

C-Coen: Nice painting. How could would it be, if your yellow-black lizzies had a go against Malorianís black-yellow lizzies. :p

perplexity: Pics are a bit too small for me, but Iím sure it looks great. ^^

dwarfhold13: Very good looking gyro. Iím gonna save that and show it to a friend whosís struggling with the mini. The thunderers look great too.

Thanks to everyone who commented on my effort this month, and to everyone who's still alive and kicking. I wouldn't have painted half as much without your encouragement.

@ Gargobot: I actually like that colour combination on the wizard... The colour combination I donít like, however, is the blonde haired Huntsmen (the blonde beard is fine though). It seems far too bright.Thanks.
I agree, so I put it on my stuff-to-change-when-the-tale-is-over-list.

@Gargobot: I think the colour combo on the wizard works well. The yellow and purple robes are very well done - did you paint them separately?
Thank you.
I'm not sure what you mean by separately. I fully assembled the wizard before painting.

@Gargobot: As already stated in your log, I think that wizard is amazing. I might have to rethink playing against you when this is over, as my army will look horrible next to yours.
Don't, your army looks very coherent, your painting is at least a thousand times better than you make it out to be, and I'm really looking forward to our game.
And even if we assume for a second your army would look horrible next to mine (which it won't because we both paint to a good standard), painted armies always look way (how way? -wayway!) better than unpainted ones.
Also I don't know where you live yet, and how can I stalk you without knowing where you live... oh, did I just tip my hand?:p

See you guys in a few days. :D

do it someone2040!! do it!!
i just had to show you guys this.. this is my craftsman geeky side coming out of me.. i built a figure storage case.. and i just had to show you guys..
little history, i co-own a case manufacturing company and when you get into it, you think of anything and everything to make cases for... soooo....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/gibsn1960/figcase1.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/gibsn1960/figcase2.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/gibsn1960/figcase5.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/gibsn1960/figcase3.jpg

looking back on it, i wish i would have just gone ahead and made the smaller trays a full 4" high and the one in the bottom 7" some of the cavalry models with high spears and banners don't fit so they just take up room in the big tray in the bottom..
but all it is is 1/2" plywood covered in carpet with some protective corners and plywood trays. popped some little 2" casters on the bottom of it and blam... instant storage for 1000+ figures and its only 35" tall!

yeah.. it is for home.. i've got a small craftsman toolbox that i bring to tournaments and games.
i was just getting tired of having trays that i couldn't stack and i had figures everywhere.. i think i still have about 300 more to put together too :(

does anyone else want one? i think i have about 120 dollars in material and about 12 hours in on it.. so what's that? 8 easy payments of 49.99 :D

Haha, second army, I think not. I will continue adding to my Dogs of War though, got a 2500 point tournament coming up in June.
I'm also thinking about stripping my Marksmen of Miragliano and redoing them. Not because I think I did a bad job on them. Just that they're metal, and the tournament was not kind to them since I didn't get around to varnishing them(Crossbows falling off, paint coming off).

Sorry folks, busy month for me so no contribution from me this month. I did manage to paint 400 points, but I don't have time to make a photo. That means I'm out. I'd like to contribute to the TOFP if I'm making some more progress if that's okay.

Uhm... out? You can still use 2 jokers for one army and 1 for the other (2 if you ask nicely) and got 400 points ready, just no pics? That's not really a reason to drop out, is it? Just cling on tight and finish the thing!

BTW, if you do need to drop out, I'll just merge both your orc armies into 1, and you'll have that one done.

Braad
31-03-2010, 19:02
You doubt my knowledge on these matters?
Hmmm...

As far as I know you painted 1170 point for 1 army, and 1144 for the other. We're just at the end of month 7, so you should have painted 1400 points. 1170 is close enough to 1200 for you to only have to use a joker this month to be back on track, and for the other you just used the second one.

Remember, when you paint enough, you can earn jokers back. But please let me know if I got your numbers wrong.

It's more about painting then actually reaching the required numbers, don't forget that too.

@Krzyek - I really like the build of the captain - great original looking mini.
@ Ego Ninja - Coming along nicely on the thirster. I enjoy seeing WIP shots. Cool crystal ball!

@C-Coen - Ferocious looking carnosaur, nicely done.
@Perplexiti - Like the yellow on the banner.
@Dwarfhold13 - I like the contrast between the metals and the woods, very subtle yet effective.
