http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y213/Festablo/Banner.jpg

So I took the plunge and bought a bunch of Khador stuff for Warmachine. I've been painting them and finally started playing last week. All I can say is wow.. I'm hooked. I've been playing Warhammer 40k for 15 years and I've never been as excited about it as I am with Warmachine after 1 weeks time! Anyway I decided to start logging my work here in a good old fashion plog. I'll be starting with my Khador stuff as I am currently plugging away at this army. Keep an eye out for possible Legion of Everblight or Protectorate of Menoth down the line. I'll be using this first post here as a table of content for my work. Click on the links below to view my work so far! Enjoy!

Great painting and beautifully done weathering! And I like the bases a lot too. Something I've noticed with some Warmachine painters is that they over-do their bases and make them stand out too much, taking away from the model. Your bases give the models place without being distracting. Nice stuff.

beautiful painmanship, but why in the fantasy project logs section?

there isnt a specific forum for pp logs and there isnt going to be one according to wintermute so fantasy seems the best place to put them
plus all the other pp logs seem to be in here

Great looking Khador, i always liked the grey/red scheme for them. I love the weathering and the war dog's face in particular.

This is the correct place for your Khahor Log

Whilst there is no dedicated PP Project Log forum neither is there a dedicated forum for Warhammer either. If you read the forum description you will realise this.

Now back to the models...

They are stunning. I think you should tell us how you painted them, the paints used and the techniques for the weathering etc.

I look forward to seeing more of your Khador force soon.

Funny when boredom makes you click on various stuff you normally don`t look at due to time and then you find something like this! Frikkin` awesome, and that`s all I can say besides...we want more!

Wonderfully painted, well done!

Hope to see more, and as others have requested, some writing about what you've done to achieve the various effects would be very warmly welcomed!

Hey guys, thanks for all the wonderful responses!

The main techniques I use on the jacks are sponge painting (chipping) and oil paint weathering (grease and grime). I'm working on a tutorial for my blog (www.firstranksecondrank.blogspot.com) which I can also post here. The nice part about oil paints is you have to protect them between layers, thus each layer gets a gloss coat. The result is an incredibly durable finish that I hit with matte varnish to finish them up, ala, they will never chip lol.
On a side note I finished another miniature tonight, the manhunter variant. Here she is.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y213/Festablo/Manhuntress.jpg

I have a Kodiak on order that I should be getting sometime this week. I'm planning on doing a step by step on that one. Until then, stay classy!

I suspected these were the techniques you were using, I use them myself. But instead of applying gloss varnish I use Johnson's Klear (known as Future in some countries) Floor Varnish.

looks fantastic, this log has actualy inspired me to take up warmachine, not to play really, just to paint...although if the rules are any good i might play it a bit :)

also, just a quick request, could yo please put a scale shot up of a warhammer miniture and one of these models because i wont be able to get my minis for a little while and it would be nice to know what the size comparrison is like :D

Wow... just wow. These look amazing. Almost makes me want to get a Khador force. I've been considering getting into Warmachine and after seeing these I have to say I'm far more tempted to now. I think I might have to order in the rules and some models of my own.

Anyway keep up the good work, those 'jacks are looking great. And are you planning on doing some other infantry aswell?

I love your juggernauts or how those steel monsters are called. The weathering is absolutely great! It looks so realistic like it was real rust and stuff.
How do you paint those metallic edges where the paint has been stripped off? They look very good and I'm searching for a way to do it like that too but I had no success yet.
I'll be following this blog, keep up! :)

Thank you for all the kind words! They keep me going as a painter ;) Just so you know I haven't abandoned you guys I have been working feverishly on my Ironfang Pikemen. These guys are a pain in my ***. Their pikes are like spagetti so I had to replace them all with steel rod. Here is a shot of one of them that I finished converting. I finished building the last model this morning and will be painting them up over the next few days. Keep an eye out for them around Tuesday.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y213/Festablo/IFP-WIP.jpg

Over the next few weeks I'll be working on Fenris, The Behemoth and the Great Bears in order to polish off my pButcher army before moving on to either pIrusk or eIrusk. For all you list-fu junkies out there here is what I am running with pretty good success

- 25 Points
pButcher
Behemoth
Kodiak
War Dog
6x Ironfang Pikemen + UA
Manunter

- 35 Points add:
The Great Bears
Fenris

So that's it for now! Hope to get some more stuff up soon!

LOVE your models, the painting and the basing!

That test model looks pretty good, are you happy with it?

I've never played Warmachine, but I actually ordered some Khador models yesterday, so I could paint them, and possibly build up a very small force.

Col_Festus
23-03-2010, 22:55
Watch out it will suck you in! I haven't even touched my warhammer stuff in months ever since I started playing Warmachine. I'm pretty happy with the demo IFP. It's a unit model so I didn't go over the top in quality as I have to paint up 10 of these bad boys. I almost have the unit done and will hopefully have them posted tonight, if not tonight I will have them up Thursday.

I've just ordered the MKII book, I'm so excited. I'm like you guys, I've become disillusioned with GW as of late.

Fantastic work on the models. Yuri the Axe is spectacular. Any plans for some Epic Warcasters? I'd love to see you attempt Supreme Commander Irusk...

The painting is really great, but I don't get why all these Warmachine armies keep popping up in the Fantasy section. I don't know much about the system, but judging by the minis I've seen on the forum, most of them look more sci-fi...
