I use the basic sabol design army transport (http://saboldesigns.net/armytransport.php), it's not cheep, but it is very good, especialy for awquard shaped things (fits my waveserpent like a dream). You'll only realy get one good sized army in there though.

This sucker (http://saboldesigns.net/armytransportbattalion.php) is what you want for two armys, but you'll have to buy the foam trays (http://saboldesigns.net/figurefoamd.php) seperatly, which is going to drive the price up.

I started at one point fixing a flight travel case with foam. But I never got very far with it, and never finished. By calculations, it would have held 200 figures.

Two words: The Beast (http://www.figuresincomfort.co.uk/the_beast.htm)

I'll quote: "This case fits 18 single depth foam trays or 648 28mm figures "

I have one. It bloody rocks.

Heh heh. Don't think that comes with foam included in the price though Ouro, sorry mate ;)

I use a Charon Skirmishpack (http://www.battlepack2001.com/details2.html) - excellent value, holds my Lizardmen and Imperial Guard armies at once. My one complaint is that their foam trays only hold32 models compared with GW foam's 36. Otheriwse, it's an excellent case. Highly recommended.

@ Jonathan =I=

If you happen to live in Melbourne, I think that Mind Games in the city has an Army Transport Batalion or two in stock

Having gone through multiple gyrations of carrying cases over the years, I would recommend that you decide what you like and then try to get that, even if it takes a while to find the case you want....

If you buy your a "second choice" case you will soon find that you are looking for another case.

I myself have one Sabol Battalion transport, I believe it's called.

This thing is around the size of two regular sabol army transports. It also nicely comes with wheels and a handle, so you can drag it along behind you like luggage, instead of carrying it around. I'm afraid I don't remember how much it costs, though. It was a while back when I bought it.

Give them a call and they might be able to send you one

Problem being that you have to buy the foam trays seperately, they've probably got them but you're looking at a fair whack of cash, something like $200 plus shipping... It might be the same price to order it from Sabol (http://saboldesigns.net/index.php) in the US

I went and bought a few dozen trays of 'eggshell' packing foam, which comfortably acommodate 40 or so 28mm infantry figures each, or 15-20 cavalry figures. More dynamicaly posed, or fragile models need the actual Sabol trays, but for bog standard infantry and cavalry the eggshell foam works fine. And it's dirt cheap from your local foam and rubber store.

Yeah, I used to use egg carton foam too. For a grand total of $16 I had an excellent cary case. But after a few of my models scrached one another a couple of times, I started packing them VERY carefully, which took quite a bit of time time, I eventually decided that for shear speed of packing, I would splash out the AU$150 for the army transport. It was a pretty solid hunk of my model budget, but it means that I can take my entire army places now tanks and all.

The biggest I know of are:
the beast - Figs in comfort
our Delux Battlepack - Charon Productions
then the battalion box - Sabol Designs.

pricewise I thing the beast and delux battlepack are comperable. Jules would know for sure. The Sabol battalion looks about the same price but it is sold empty and once you add the foam cost it is more expensive.

I've been using a hunting rifle case for my minitures. I lined the top cover with foam allowing me store about a 100 to 150 models. I can only use it for my metal and small plastic models and use a box case for my large plastic models.

The local Plastic shop has these foam rubber squares of various thicknesses for a few bucks, I just cut out the required shapes and use PVA glue to stick it to some corrugated cardboard, they all fit into a HUGE sports bag with my codex, rule book etc.

the biggest gw one is the new imperial aquila case.

bladestalker

actually the biggest GW case would be the special edition Dleux Skirmishpacks we made for the Storm of Chaos event last year. they are a little bigger than this aquila case.

@ Bugbait - How much did that come to and how hard would you say that was.

I'm getting tired of my old bubblewrap and mail order boxes.

Getting the Aquila for birthday but I'd like to store my old armys as well

@ Lostandthedamned

I get a 33cm x 30cm x 5cm high piece of foam for $2.50, I get large cardboard boxes from the local supermarket to make a single piece that will fold over the top and bottom, glued to the bottom, this one section will hold 42 minis.
A taller section of foam costs about $3.50, tall enough for a LRC.
All up the foam for about 2000 pts of space wolves cost me $12.00
I use a scalpel to cut out the holes, this takes some time and if you remember to keep the blade REALLY vertical it comes out OK (cut first and the glue to the cardboard).
The bag cost $12.00 from one of those "emporium" shops, it has 2 end sections that hold all of the books and gubinz.
All up $24.00 New Zealand dollars, so for the rest of the world its about 75 cents :-)
