I have heard it suggested before but I haven't seen anyone post any pics of the Warhammer Forest Goblin Spider Riders being used as Giant Spiders for Misty Mountains armies so I thought I would put some up so people can see how well they work.

The spiders come as all one piece but they have a large flat spot on their thorax that needs a little glob of greenstuff. Insanely easy to do. They also come with rectangular cavalry bases so you would probably want some extra 40mm bases to put them on. They are a little big for the 40mm bases, but not much. Depending on how you glue them to the base they might not sit snugly into GW's cavalry move trays but they do fit.

I didn't greenstuff one of them because I am thinking about converting a model to be Druzhag mounted on a spider. Not sure though.

That is 10 Giant Spiders for $30 US. The LotR giant Spiders are 2 for $15.

Thought some of you might like to know.

Very nice. The only thing I have seen similar is to buy toy spiders as they look closer to the GW ones. But besides from that it is very cool. Might actually expand by MIsty Mountain army now.

Not a bad alternative at all. You can also get these guys insanely cheap on eBay, most of the time, since they were available in the BfSP set.

Another suggestion, which is what I did, was to buy some spiders from the D&D collectible minis line. The plastic is a little soft, but they look more realistic than the WFB spiders. However, being non-GW that poses certain issues, as well.

I have 3 of those as well, but I couldn't find more for a good price.

I prefer the Ebob spiders myself: http://www.ebobminiatures.com/products/fantasy.htm#1

but the warhammer ones would be the cheapest out there, simply because there are so many of them.

Really? I didn't like those at all.

To each his own I suppose.

Yeah, luckily there's a lot of choice in alt. models, as well as a core of sweet Perry miniatures.

In contrast to ForgottenLore, I think Ebob's spiders rawk! They're much more realistic and creepier than either the LotR models or the cartoony but attractively cheap BfsP spiders. But, I agree with FL, to each his own.

If I had any interest in a MM army (which I don't at this time) I would be happy to give Bob a wad of my grossly devalued dollars for his lurvely spiders.

I use the WHFB spiders as well for my children of Ungoliant army.

Likely the most economical solution for the quality of the minis for giant spiders.

I found the best way for me to affix them to the bases was a small bit of platis rod inserted in the belly so the legs do not interfere with being placed into the movement tray.

I love the ebob spiders, but their prices arent that great (though they are better in everyway to GW's LotR giant spiders surely).

I'm with FL, not a huge fan of ebob's spiders. The sculpting is fine, but to me they're almost as unrealistic as th WFB spiders (less cartoony, but still quite exaggerated). I like the GW minis pretty well, they're just too pricey.

I think we are getting away from the point that we are looking at a econiomic soloution to a problem, not some cool models. 3 for 10 is better, but 10 for maybe a fiver on ebay is justv awsome!
