Hi guys,

Just to let you know that I'm currently scratch-building support weapons and artillery for my Epic Siegemaster army. If you're interested, here's the URL.

http://www.miniatureworld.dk/Data/Forum/index.php?topic=650.msg12862#msg12862

I've just made a start but I'm hoping that I'll get my **** into gear and get these guns done!:rolleyes: :)

Ooh, looking swell there! How long does it take, on average, to do one of those guns?

Also, I have to say that your bases are very nice. Simple, but somehow very good looking.

I think it took me the best part of an hour for that first Thudd Gun! But I'm hoping that as I get the 'production line' up and running, it'll take me less per gun.

The bases for my infantry are painted bestial brown, then flocked with green flock. Then I add a few little rocks and then a chestnut and flesh ink wash.

All the background for Baran Siegemasters is available on the Specialist Games website in the Swordwind downloadable PDFs.

That'd be a 1/35 scale German SdKfz 164 Nashorn.:D

I think when I've got the army in a more finished state then I'll post some pics up on the ASP!

As for the Thudd Guns and Rapiers, I'm gonna try to get as many built as I can fit into 3000pts.;)

I'm hoping to do some more work on the guns tonight.

I managed to get two hours free to work on the thudd guns. I've also made a good start on the Rapiers too.

Still thinking about how I'm going to do the artillery company and flak guns.

Anyway, here's the progress so far;

http://www.miniatureworld.dk/Data/Forum/index.php?topic=650.msg12865#msg12865

I'm quite chuffed with how these are turning out.

Further down you can also see the work i've done on the wheels and bases I've started for the flak guns.

@Malika: Go here (http://www.specialist-games.com/epic/rulebook.asp) to see the fluff and background on the Siegemasters. All the fluff is in the Swordwind Pt 3 – The Baran War PDF with unit details and info being in Pt 2.

Looking really good there. The sandbags really add to the overall style. Have you made any fortifications yet?

The sandbags were actually really easy. Just a small sausage of GS placed onto the base (a 1p coin) and then scored numerous times with a wet modelling knife.

I've got a set of the fortifications from ForgeWorld that I still need to finish painting and basing. I may make some more in the future but a bit of play-testing is need first before I go down that road.

I've finally managed to put some more time in on my artillery!:rolleyes:

Unfortunately I went and bought Black for my PS2 so I've been thoroughly engrossed in that. But I managed to tear myself away enough to do some more work to my Epic.:)

Here's the latest update;

Cheers for all your comments so far dudes.

Can't wait for the painted pics. You have really nice skills when it comes to plasticard and you've the new Epic "mindset" that somehow shows through in your conversions (well, models would be the correct term, I suppose).

One thing that might be worth considering is adding battle damage to the shield plates of the artillery. Something to break the smoothness a bit. Scratches and tiny bullet dents, maybe. These are, after all, siege troops who have shrapnel from the sky for breakfast! :)

Thanks Math Mathonwy,

The flak guns are looking quite sharp, I may do a few damage tests before doing it to the actually conversions though! Then again, at this scale I'm thinking that some creative paintwork might be the solution.

I've worked out how I'm gonna base the artillery now, so hopefully I can get started properly on those.

Gonna be having a 1500pt game in an hour or so; hopefully my Thudd Guns and Rapiers will do good.

So, how's it going? How did the battle go? Any more minis done? I'm really looking forward to seeing some of those complete scratchbuilts painted :)

I've been awfully busy myself and all I've managed is to paint a stand of Plaguebearers - and it looks that I'm going to be busy painting Mid-Nor for Confrontation for a few weeks so my own Epic project log won't probably start until next month.

Sorry for the late reply MattM!

The battle was great, I did put a link on the Specialist Games bit of Warseer but it didn't get much attention. Here's a direct link for ya;

I've done more work to my guns now, made a start on the artillery.

Here's the progress so far. I'm hoping to get more done by the weekend.

I've finally managed to do more work to my Artillery Company. I've added entrenchments and sandbags.

Check them out;

Also if you have the time, have a look at my Epic battle report. I put it up a while ago now but nobody's said nought:cries:

Whilst letting the arty cure, I managed to rustle up an Epic scratch-built Carnifex too for my upcoming 'Nid army!

The howitzers seem to be missing some important parts... mainly a carriage. With how they stand right now, I don't really see quite how you'd go about putting something like that on there...

Well I'm gonna be adding a tonne of crew members and boxes etc so my general line of thinking is that the carriage wouldn't be too visible anyway.

Well, you've seemed to do a bangup job on the rest of the stuff. Certainly seems that you know what you're doing. Can't wait to see more.

Thanks a lot Kotobuki. I'm hopefully gonna have them all done within the next month or so. I'll post some more pics on the next phase of construction!

More progress has been made on my Siegemasters!

My Artillery Company is now fully constructed and is now waiting a coat of black undercoat (damn the rain!). I've added two layers of sandbags to them as well as their crews.

http://www.miniatureworld.dk/Data/Forum/index.php?topic=650.new#new

I've also undercoated my Rough Riders, two more Infantry Companies, my Flak guns and also support weapons - so they're all ready to paint now!

Most excellent Stug. Do you plan on taking the infantry off the bases, or just using that as a basis to put the 'ground' on?

Ground on.

Every photo I've seen of real arty in action has lotsa guys huddled around the gun.

Kotobuki
15-04-2006, 14:23
Heh, I understand that. What I meant was the actual round bases under the individual infantry model's feet. Is the round plastic disc going to stay, allowing you to then use the top of thier bases as the basis for the 'ground'?

Yay! I've finished my Flak Battery.

Gotten those all based and my Regimental HQ too.

They looks a bit like the stationary earthshaker guns instead of flak. Personally I would have gone with making it look like a Hydra (that's the flak tank, right?).

Yay! :) Looking mighty good there. I especially love the tires, a cool touch. I have to say that your colour scheme has the effect of making them look somewhat battle worn, which is altogether good.

Well its more based on German WWII 88mm flak guns rather than quad 23mm.

Thanks Math, battle-worn is what I was going for!:)

More work to do on my arty and support weapons still...
