I managed a close up of the rulebook then it was gone. Why am I not surprised.

If you went to the website about 10 minutes prior to the actual release time, you could have gotten your order in and finished like I did meaning you could order prior to the end of the countdown.

Did anyone manage to see the price of the rulebooks? I only saw the collectors edition at 75

Vaul Darkhour
15-06-2010, 10:07
that'll teach em for putting a countdown clock on their website and withholding information.. :eyebrows:

They basically asked for a denial of service attack on themselves with that timer. Enough people trying to click all at once will take most servers down. Tends to happen to colleges during registration time :(

Glad I'm just going to grab it in person from my FLGS when it comes out. Don't even play fantasy, but I will pick up the book and maybe the starter when it is out. For now, my money is going to Forgeworld.

classic....all that work gone into making that fancy countdown clock and all it counted down to was a server overload lol.

i got a look at everything, saw 45 for the basic book and was instantly glad i sold my warhammer stuff a few months back.

I was so wainting:D. I should have seen that coming.

By the way the bag of the gamer edition is a bit meh I wish I can see it for real.

What did they say yesterday?

"Unless the world explodes you'll be able to preorder tomorrow."

Well not exactly the world, but it seems they anticipated something like that.

Seriously, I've filled my basket FOUR TIMES now, only to have it emptied on crashing! Grr..

It's back up and working for me

Works now.

The question is: Is money for preorders taken now, or later when the tiem is sent out?

Galatan
15-06-2010, 10:22
Damnation! Typical, any site that has a countdown timer for a release can expect to fail and crash:rolleyes:. I'm using the network of my uni at the moment and as far as I know it's the fastest connection in the country and it's still having a hard time!

Mr_Rose
15-06-2010, 10:23

Probably now.
If it were just the website they wouldn't be allowed to by law in the UK but since they have actual physical shops there's a loophole for them to exploit to get the cash early.

Collector's edition is 75,
Normal is 45,
Gamers edition is 75.

I must have broken it, it's not working now! :cries:

Empire civilians are up for pre-order too.

I'm crazy, I hate buying stuff at full retail price and I just went and bought a collector's, hah.
Oh well, I have the money now since I has gotten a pretty raise at work~

Mr_Rose
15-06-2010, 10:26
Collectors Edition: Even huger and more unwieldy book; 75
Gamer's Edition: Book with all the new accessories except the magic cards and a bonus canvas satchel; 75
Regular (book only) Edition: 45

EDIT: Damn you Jedi! Just for this I'm going to overturn the republic and start my own Empire. Hah!
EDIT2: The other prices in case anyone's interested:

"Engineer's Ranging set" - the ruler and callipers: 18
"Warhammer Skull Dice" - with dice bag: 7
"Warhammer Counter Set" - doesn't actually count for you: 8
"Warhammer Template Set" - the sun/moon wheel and comet: 5
"Warhammer Battle Magic" - No Black Lotus, sorry: 6
"Citizens of the Empire - Duellists" - swords and guns, oh my!: 8.5
"Citizens of the Empire - Merchant and Scribe" - but the picture is clearly a scribe and a merchant: 8.5
"Citizens of the Empire - Regimental Mascot" - Smoky? Is that you?: 10.5

Jedi152

Basically the satchel costs you 10 compared to buying the bits separately.

Kalandros
15-06-2010, 10:35
yeah no point to the gamer's edition except for the coins and the bag (coins are the bag's buttons on top of that haha)

Collector's + separate templates, cards, dice, counters.

Also as cool as the engineer things look, they don't look useful at all.

The Card Auth server will be getting hammered too, 3D secure adds to the load with a few extra requests. Just Imagine the day the poor web tekkies will be having trying to keep the server playing nice..

being a teen...
I posted a countdown on facebook, then posted how the site failed worse than ticketek moments later. Went to look at the book details and the website crashed.

Book is 200 AU$, an iPod nano is 200 AU$ I'm not buying the book

Idle Scholar

Collectors edition ordered. It's a shame I had to trawl the rumour threads to work out when it actually comes out to pick the optimum delivery destination.

Competition entered as well. I figure 10,000 orders of the Collectors and General edition (order of magnitude), and six prizes so that makes the odds about 1000 to 1. Which for a lottery is pretty damn good.

Major_Manny

do they take payment upon pre-ordering, or do they take payment once the item is shipped?

15-06-2010, 11:01
Just got my reply from customer services: Mr_Rose is right, the money is taken when you make the order.

Pity, i get paid a week tomorrow and fancy a few bits.

tluamiani1
15-06-2010, 11:02
I paid with Paypal - once I was outside the GW website it was as fast as it is any time.

Also, logging into the Paypal website, I see the payment has been deducted immediately.

And of course a few moments past, I get discount vouchers from Wayland and Maelstrom in my inbox. :D:D:D

Now, as my attentions were elsewhere, for anybody who watched the countdown end, did the mechanism animation slide back or do anything funky? Or was it just crashfail time?

I finally managed to buy myself a collectors Edition and some of the nice markers. I know that I shouldn't give GW that much of my money, but I really don't care in this case. Anyway, the site seems to be working fine again. Nice to see that there are still enough people interested in Fantasy to make the server crash :P.

Tarliyn
15-06-2010, 11:14
just ordered my gamers, the battle magic, and the engineer's things

I discovered the engineers things weren't exactly what I thought they were when ordering, but am optimistically hoping they will be cool none the less.

that totaled about $163 : /

I hope to get some of those minis eventually, anyone know if they are limited supply?

I wonder if it's based on that Polish 'soldier bear' story that came out about a year ago.

Meh. That's Australia. Been that way for 20+ years. Hardly worth commenting on now. Especially since ordering from the UK is so much easier these days. ;)

Yeah it's just disappeared from the Oz site too. Though I don't know if they'd pull it entirely like that is it was sold out(?) - and things rarely sell out on the Oz site - more just have it 'no longer available'. I suspect it's just a website screw-up / temporary correction.

Nice to see Wayland giving discounts on Mantic when buying 8th.

I saw that too!

Wayland are awesome and it's great to see Mantic given more opportunity to grow.
