as per the title, will small 500-1000 point games be pointless (ho ho) now?

based on what I've heard about magic being insanely strong will each side just take a wizard with +1 spell and spam 2 spells each turn for devastating effect. each side having 1 big unit faces off with other.

And the difference to now is...?

I hope border patrol games will still work, as I rather enjoy them. Though they were never particularly balanced in the first place.

Erm. There isn't any guarantee you'll get those spells off. Considering the power/dispel dice generation, your opponent will have at least half your power dice in dispel dice before magic item bonuses (if any).

As for units, there are a lot of things to play around with. One big unit isn't possible, since there is a minimum of 3 units when building an army. Plus it wouldn't be able to defend itself from flank attacks, and quite a few armies can stick multiple cheap warmachines even into 1000 points. The tactical complexity is pretty high, even at a small points value.

And if your wizard ultimate forces he's likly to take his unit out with the miscast result( one and the same now but the spell works).

Border patrol was made for 6th yet worked fine in 7th, I don't see how it won't for 8th, all it is is army restrictions.

it will still work just reduce the 2d6 to 2d3... Magic not so much a problem now is it?
