As above, with beast cowers gone what will we use?

Fire lore: the flaming arrows spell will do wonders against the hydra negating regen. It is good vs the dragons as well especially for S3 shooters who effectively become S5 against T6 (minus the armour penetration)

Doesn't do much for my auto wounding poison skinks though.

The metal spells don't really cut it with their high Toughness.

Idea's?

I think the Lore of Death might be worth a go.

The signature spell, the #2 spell and the #5 spell have a chance to do some serious wounds to a Dragon with some lucky dice. They ignore armor saves and are all based on L, S and T stats vs a dice roll.

The downside is that they are all 12" range (unless powered up) and may not be as useful against the Hydra's regen.

Upgraded spear spell from lore of beasts. S10 D6 wound bolt thrower ftw! -1 to cast at monsters too.

Ha! I didn't think of the -1 to cast! That's awesome. Definitely a good one.

Lore of Death. Mindwar... I mean, the signature spell.

Why spells? Take the flaming banner on the unit deployed opposite the hydra and smite it in cc or possibly with flaming shooting (depending on the item's wording).

Shadow also has the signature spell to drop initiative then pit of shades to drop them off the table.

Lore of metal is no longer based against your opponents toughness... If your opponent has a 3+ save, you are wounding on 3s. They could be Toughness 100000 and you'd still be wounding on 3s. For that reason, Lore of Metal is the best IMO.

Treemen, Big Dragons, + Hydras will all just go POOF.

On the flip side, Lore of metal is garbage against aboms, varghulfs, griffons, giants, etc...

Gateway as ever. The average of 7 S7 flaming hits is going to make a mess of any monster. And of course they could just disappear on a 11 or 12.

might be missing something here but dosnt the signiture spell of metal use their armour saave to roll to wound and you dont get armour saves agaisnt it? surely that would be good no?

Does Lore of Metal work on Scaly Skin saves?

Why wouldn't it? It's whatever your armor save is.

Scaly Skin provides an armor save.

Damn, I was getting confused with flickering fire. Cheers for pointing it out. It's still good against dragons and the like. And you always have flickering fire to fall back on for your hydras and aboms.

The purple sun (level 6 spell of the lore of death) is pretty solid against hydras and dragons. Initiative test or die, Jaws of the World Wolf style.

I really like Occams Mindrazor (level 6 of lore of shadow). Makes your strength become the same as your leadership score. So high elf spearmen instantly become strength 8 (more with a character).
