If a Character with MR2 or 3 joins a unit, does he give the unit his MR? (like in 7th)

Yes. The unit gains a Ward Save against magic based on the character's MR.

Another magic resistance question, archaon has a 3+ ward save with magic resistance 2, does that mean (unless he is altered in the FAQ) that against magic he will have a 1+ ward save?

Oberon

Yes. You don't need Archaon to reach such heights though: Fury of the blood god-gift (20p, Mr2 and 4+ ward vs magic) combines nicely to 2+ ward vs magic, or 1+ with mark of tzeentch. The rest of the regiment the hero stays in, gets only 5+ ward though (without mot). Truly the Blood God protects his servants against the devious ways of witchcraft!

I know i dont need to use archaon but i like him :P
Even tho he used to be the only general with an 18" LD range and now anyone on a large target gets it :(

Sorry for offtopic, but that's wrong. Karl Franz and Loen Leoncoeur both have items or special rules to expand the general LD bubble to 18" and there's an Orc character which happens to have also 18" for General LD.
It's not as uncommon as you think for special characters.

On topic:
Note that 1+ is the best ward save you can get and also a 1 is still a failed ward save.

Caradryan has a 1+ Ward save against magic!

More importantly, that means that Fleshhounds will be running around with a 5+ normal ward save and 2+ against magic?

Aratus

Correct. So the only spell that will work on Flesh Hounds will be Bullet and Cannon Ball :p

It's probably well known but just in case,

Remember - MR does not work against ALL magic in 8th, just certain types. I believe it's just Magic Missiles, Direct Damage, and certain Power Whirls/Vortexes.

Yeah, it's a save. It work's against damage from spells. Special rule: Magic Resistance doesn't actually specify which types of magic it helps against. Just damage.

have they restricted the magic resistance like they did in 7th? Meaning a MR of 3 being the max. Just wondering about MR stacks and whatnot.

Caradryan has a 1+ Ward save against magic!

All Phoenix Guard do as long as their Captain leads them!

Yes, MR 3 is the maximum and it does not stack. You just use the highest MR available.

What about Leon LeCour then? as he has MR (X) where X is the number of dice used to cast the spell, and even says that it can go above 3 in the rule

Yes, and it states in his rules that this is an exception to the normal limit of MR.

EDIT: It doesn't change anything tho. He has a 5+ ward and with MR3 he would get a 2+ ward save against damage from magic. As a rolled 1 is always a failed ward save MR 4-6 wouldnt give him a benefit anyway in 8th edition.

As fun as it is to have a 2+ward save against spells, it does not prevent wounds from certain spells and MR does not do anything against non-damage spells which there are now PLENTY of.

Seems that doom n darkness just got even better on top of the new rip and what not for it now it seems that mr dosen't stop it ouch!!

Well, considering that in 7th edition, magic resistance didn't do anything at all against irresistible force spells, I think I'll be quite happy with the improved ward saves. :D

Archangelion

Does it cover magic weapons now?

Kalandros

Magic Resistance is against spell damage only.

Sucky, if it were against magic weapons, it would be a nice pairing with the parry rule.
