With the auto-kill from st 7+ gone in 8th, I'd say Chariots will make good mounts for characters, though I'm not sure how combined profiles will work.

There is also the fact that you don't break ranks anymore, which is a down side.

chariots never broke ranks, they have never been US5 or more except for the old storm of chaos demon ones. Chariots in themselves are better now as they dont instantly die and have seen nowhere that states they cant march so they can now. Only thing about a character in one is hes a easier target to get shot at and the chariot will die with ease from shooting and magic when it gets randomized to it so hes gonna be walking quick. But it all comes down to whether its something you like to play with. Its not bad but its not great.

In 7th, when a character was on a mount, it provided +1 to the US of the model. This means that when a character was on a US4 chariot, it became US5 and thus rank-breaking.

chariots count as the unit str of there starting wounds thus 4 plus the prince 5

Yes, beside bubafett we all know that. The point is that in 8th you need 2 complete ranks to break ranks, so single models can't do it anymore.

well i think all drop the str 7 to 6 and save points so then the lord would even be useable in 1k lists

I don't think that was true.

Chariot is US 4 as it has two steeds, and 2 crew. 2+2 is US4 But a Character Displaces on of the crew. so 2 Steeds, + 2 crew + one character -1 crew = US4

I could be wrong, but?

no its unit str is equal to starting wounds
