Hi,

I'm normally a 40k player but the release of 8th edition fantasy, I'm considering starting a tzeentch Warriors of Chaos army.

I'm starting to mess around with different list ideas and I'm wondering:

Why don't I notice daemon princes making their way into lists?

I've been messing around with armybuilder and comparing a tzeentch disc sorcerer lord to tzeentch daemon price sorcerer... or even a chaos giant...
and (at least on paper) the DP looks pretty decent.

Any advice on what might be wrong with fielding a DP in a competetive game?

Thanks :)

The Daemon Prince suffers from having no armor and being a very expensive point investment, he just has a flat +4 ward, against small arms fire (bows, blow pipes, etc.etc) he'll fall fairly fast

Moreover the more useful items in the arcane item list only wizards can take, daemon princes have no item point allowance, they just have the 100 points in gifts they can take.

Moreover the Daemon Prince suffers a bit in h2h due to the fact he can take no weapon upgrades or increase his ability to survive return attacks. Additionally while engaging in h2h, his abilities as a caster become limited due to certain spells being restricted from casting.

The issue kinda boils down to him having a fairly decent stat-line that can be attached to casting ability, if he decides to do one thing or another, there's points there that could've been spent on a specialist unit or character who could probably fulfill the same role without putting a quarter of your army into a lichepin who isn't particularly hard to take out.

Yup, he's far harder to protect than a Sorcerer Lord, more expensive, and no more maneuverable (if you take a Disc for the Lord). In a competitive setting, he really offers very little gain for a significant downside. No armor, only 4+ ward (a Tzeentch SL can get 3+), and no access to arcane items, and all he gains is a better combat statline. For the points, you can just take a Sorcerer Lord and an Exalted Hero and get the best of both worlds.

Of course, if you're playing for fun, go for it. I'm partial to the Bel'akor model myself, but the new plastic DP looks like it'll be nice too.

Daemon Prince
Level 4 Wizard
Mark of Tzeentch
Tendrils of Tzeentch

This is the best way to run one i have noticed.
