Am i right in thinking that you get your normal armour save from a hit with a stone thrower?

Except for the model under the hole of the template, yes.

You could still get an armor save under the hole if your armor save is 0+. There needs to be an exception in the army book to allow that, such as Iron Hard Skin off the Eye of the Gods table.

But since you can only have a maximum of a 1+ save, the answer is therefore no. ;)

To expand a bit, you only do D6 wounds to the model that is under the hole now too.

Army books trump rule book, p11 :). The WoC army book specifically says you can get a max 0+ save if you roll a 6 on the EotG table.

tmatk are you sure that the armor save section doesn't say "even if the army book says otherwise, 1+ is the best you can get", a la the army composition chart changeover?

Yeah, Stone Throwers are S3 with armor save as normal. You'll probably think that's weak until you get hit with one :D.

Well now that you mention it, it says you can't have better then a 1+ for any reason.

Your guess is as good as mine if that overrides the armybook > RBRB rule. :)

is there any fluff logic as to why u get saves now when being hit with a giant stone? or is it just because there are no more partials now, so stone throwers would be pretty op?

Well in the fluff, only the model under the center hole is actually hit by the projectile, everything else under the template is considered to be hit by battlefield debris, the shattered remains of the projectile, and even bits of the guy who just took a 50 lb. rock to the face.

You're not actually lobbing a stone the size of a 100-strong regiment of troops :D
